I love shopping at this Macy's! It's super huge with a ton of options! This is mainly for women and a floor for children. They also have a top floor for bedding. Their make-up level is amazing with more options than you could imagine. Fun fact there are also two restaurants cheesecake factory and the burger bar. However, the bottom floor of Macy's contains more food, they have ben and jerry's, jamba juice, boudin's, and much more. It's like a mini food court downstairs and it's awesome. The bathroom is a bit difficult to find so ask around. There are also some food stands each floor you go to such as Starbucks, wine bar, and much more. I love shopping here during the holidays because it's decorated. Bartable and easy to get to. Just know that it's going to be packed during the holidays. I highly recommend people to check it out. It's true that this store is a one stop shop, however, I would rather go to the Nordstrom / Bloomingdale mall between 4th and 5th on Market. I was very frustrated with Macy's customer service. I lost my phone and I was told to go to the 6th floor at the gift wrapping station to check if it had been turned in. When I spoke to the lady at the counter, she said nothing had been turned in. My frustration is that she didn't take down any information from me in case it was turned in later. After the third time of retracing my steps, I went up to the 6th floor gift wrapping counter one more time. I asked to talk to her supervisor, Jessica. Jessica was very nice and took my phone number apologizing for the first lady who didn't take down anything. read more

Today I was back at it with the last minute Christmas shopping hysteria at the Union Square Macy's. Since it was the day before Christmas. there were plenty of discounts and sales. The place was crazy but not terrible crazy as I would have expected. Since I applied for a Macy Credit Card on the spot, we got a 20% discount on already discounted items so the purchases were pretty cheap. Macy's even had Santa Land on the 7th floor which was the first time I saw kids getting their picture with Santa Claus. We went to this Macy's twice over the New Year's week/weekend. Each time the store was a complete disaster, but mostly the second time. The bottom floor where the food court is was complexly vacant of any customer service and food and trash everywhere. We went to get on an elevator and there was glass broken all over the floor and no one around to tell. When we decided to head out, the trash cans were over flowing and the front door handle was broke. I'm a little embarrassed to even say that this department store is one of my favorite, but given this area and incident, I won't ship there again. This place is a small city. Very big and spacious with lots of items to select from. It dwarfs other Macy's locations which meant that my wife couldn't leave until we walked almost every floor. I was exhausted as much as I was impressed with this place. read more

They offer a lot more high-end brands and have a very wide selection to choose from. The departments are on multiple levels and pretty organized. A nice place to shop. read more

I can't tell you how many times I have walked out of the cosmetics department because of horrible service and made my purchases at Nordstrom instead. They are clueless when it comes to listening to the requests of the customer. This would apply to Dior, Channel, and Lancome. I have to tell you of the amazing experience my family had with Gary, the salesperson in the Michael Kors watches at Macy*s on Union Square. We have never have been treated with such respect and attention at a Macy*s before. Our adult daughter was traveling with us, and wanted another Michael Kors watch in gold. However, having just moved out on her own, she realized that she could not afford this luxury. Gary suggested, since we were from SCAL, to go upstairs and get an out-of-town discount which would help. Gary actually took my husband so he would not get lost. In the mean time, Sarah looked around and found a Guess watch for less. Gary was just as happy to take care of her, never making her feel uncomfortable. Before he wrapped up the purchase, he brought over a specialist to make sure the watch was fitted to Sarah's wrist. Throughout this whole purchase, we were meant to feel like the most important guests in the store. During the process, however, a young woman was very rude and dismissive towards Gary. Perhaps since he was helping us in her section. Instead of complimenting Sarah on her purchase or being kind to Gary, she asked him to "move out of the way" as she placed merchandise in the display case. This young woman could learn a lot from a Macy*s sales representative like Gary. She certainly would be the last person I would want to purchase anything from. Before the watch purchase, we had also gone to buy jeans for my husband. The sales associate there did not hover like a helicopter for the sale. Instead, she watched form afar, knowing that Steve's wife and daughter were assisting him, and was where she needed to be when it came time for the purchase. This was noticed and appreciated. Watch out! Macy's American Express credit card payment processing center is completely incompetent. They failed to process two immediate payments to the credit card, charged late fees twice, that I had to dispute for months. Thereafter, I closed the account and then Macy's American Express posted further charges after account closure that I had to call about multiple times. Then they reported me to the credit bureau for delinquent payments when Macy's failed to ever cash the checks documenting prompt payment. Watch out for your credit because this company people will destroy you!!! This is the only credit card company I've ever had a problem with. read more

I had the worst shopping experience at Macy's yesterday in the Women's Professional Clothing section on the 4th floor. My friend and I were shopping for something she could wear to an interview and she needed a skirt and blazer. I asked for my friend's size in a 12 and a 14 in at least 3 different black blazers on display and the person helping me couldn't find a single one. She made the effort to go back into the stacks on our first request but gave up after that on consecutive requests for different blazers saying that we needed more than one at a time if she was going to "make the effort" of walking across the floor to where they keep the additional stock. When we settled on an overpriced blazer, she encouraged us to get the store card which would give us 20% off our purchase of more than $170. At that point, she said that the blazer we wanted was only available online, so we had to call the online number right then so they could give us our discount. That took a lot of time - at least half an hour. After leaving the store with only ONE suitably professional black skirt in hand and ONE black blazer ordered to come in the mail no earlier than a week from purchase (for an additional $10 fee), we found a store a few blocks away selling the EXACT SAME blazer at 50% off what we had purchased it for at Macy's in one of the acceptable sizes that we had been looking for IN STORE. To say the least, don't shop at Macy's unless you're looking to buy something overpriced and you don't mind finding it yourself. read more

I am trying to work on a professional wardrobe in my budget and many friends have reccomended a personal shopper. I reccomend to those of you looking into this service to stear clear of Macy's. There lack of customer service was staggering. First off, I went in and made an appointment on a Sunday when I was in the city. I gave what I was looking for and made it clear what my budget was. (I work in Non-profit and really don't have tons to spend on clothes; however, I was willing to work with this service for the next couple of YEARS. I.e. I was willing to be a loyal customer.) I come in for my appointment that Monday only to find out that they had misbooked me and the person I was supposed to meet with did not work that day. They offered to have someone else see me that day but they seemed so frazzled I told them I would come back next week and so I made another appointment. I came back for the next appointment and saw Lea. We immediately went to the floor to pull things for me to try on as was explained of a first "initial" appointment. I went back to try them on and to show her and get feedback. However Lea was nowhere to be found and often I had to go look for her to get her feedback and input. She didn't listen to what I said I was looking for and her feedback was moot. I also was on lunch break and only had so much time. After ignoring me most of the session she came in and asked what I wanted to buy. Problem was she picked clothes VERY outside my budget and I told her so. She told me I really should leave with an outfit and I could always just open a Macy's card to pay for it. Now I just paid of all of my credit card debt and I didn't come to open a Macy's account, I came to buy clothes in my budget. She seemed offput and put things on hold for me and I left. I did not go back. I work in Marketing and pride myself on knowing customer service skills. How I was treated as a customer throughout the process was horrible and I will never go back, futhermore I will tell other people not to go. When you offer a service that is all about customer service it should be a utmost priority. Lea made me feel awkward and ignored, which is not a good way to make a women feel when buying clothes. I was told Nordstrom offers a much better service and if I can get up the nerve to try this again I'll go over there. While I was impressed by the size of this store, I have never had worse service at a Macy's store before. My review is for the shoe department. I was originally impressed by the huge selection of shoes at this Macy's location. I mean a whole floor of shoes? Wow! So I browsed the goods and found a pair of 5" black heels that I knew would look perfect with my new dress. After flagging down a sales person, I asked for the shoes in my size. A few minutes later, she was back and handed me my shoes and walked away. Well it only took a minute to see that they did not fit. I needed a different size, and my sales girl was no where to be found. So my BF flagged down another employee. "Can you help us?" he asked. "Oh no, you need to talk to your sales person" she said. " Well she has not been back in like 10 minutes and we need to get out of here". "Well they are on commission so I cannot give you a new sales person". This is where I come in..."Well I am the customer, and I have money. I would like to spend that money, but I am not buying shoes that don't fit, so either get someone that will get me shoes that fit, or I am not giving you my money". She says, "Well they are on commission so you have to talk to your sales girl". Me, "I don't really care how the hell they get paid, the girl is not doing her job". So finally we get a new sales girl. And she helps us immediately. Sales person #1 gets all pissy with the new girl, in front of us... really unprofessional. I take the shoes that fit, and the new girl walks us to the counter to get rung up. She finishes helping us, and we of course thank her for helping us out. Moral of the story Macy's, don't put your sales people on commission, it sucks for your customers. I don't give a fuck how they get paid, they aren't going to get anything if I don't buy shoes. I didn't go to the mall once this holiday season. I did order from Amazon.com _once_, but I mostly stayed true to my "shop local" mantra and avoided all the big chains for my gifting needs. My parents have been staying downtown the last few days, and I finally gave in to the powerful siren call of post-Xmas Macy's. Macy's Union Square is officially no man's land. Bands of roving teenagers, looking to start trouble. Jewelry suspiciously understocked (where are my beloved inexpensive door knockers??). Am I hallucinating, or is there only one person working in each department? I know you got hit hard Macy's, but I'm starting to feel sorry for you! My knees got all weak around the Harajuku Lover's merch, and I picked up some cute little purses and anime perfumes for my daughters. Got home to unpack the goods and everything was still security-tagged. Ghetto. Luckily, I'm in retail and have a access to a compatible untagging device. Every time I go to Macy's, no hyperbole here; I mean Every Single God Damn Time, I'm approached by at least a couple of customers assuming that I work there. Perhaps I've spent too much time in the hospitality business and the aura of "May I help you?" emanates from my countenance. Perhaps its the gaiety. I can't say for sure, but I've finally decided to give up and begin attending to customers as though I actually did work there. Its kind of like playing Barbie with real people. Last week I helped a nervous, fashion-vapid gentleman put together a few lovely Ted Baker shirt and tie combinations, all easily interchangeable, to go with his new suit which he'll be wearing for interviews next month. I must say, he was going for colour sets that really drained his skin tone and did nothing for bringing attention to his crystal-blue eyes.... but I digress. To the heart of the review. Macy's tends to have a pretty decent selection and, due to the frequent sales, is usually within my tight budget. However, the service is really uneven. I've had great attendants with an eye for colour and fit as well as unknowledgeable sales-people who, I shit you not, have told me that my size is too rare (14 1/2 neck IS NOT rare) and that I ought try a tailor..... Man, how quickly I reached for the pill bottle after someone basically told me that she couldn't help me because I was DEFORMED. Anyway, plus four stars for the selection, minus one for the service. Why do I resist Macy's? Is it my left-wing Berkeley anti-big tendencies? Shop at the mom & pops? I have been coming into Macy's since Black & White television, and I have almost always found a good product at a great price, but for some reason I avoid it unless it's a last desperate choice. And now I will present the latest story: Little Big Man needed a suit, or a sportsjacket & tie, for middle school graduation - he's been at the school for 9 years, is deeply attached to his friends, and that was the requirement. But at 14, how long is he going to be able to wear said garment before he has forearms and shins poking out of it like some HeeHaw character (speaking of dating oneself). So first we followed a friend's suggestion and shopped a certain Goodwill in a certain extremely wealthy community and found a beautiful Italian small suit for $12. Took it to the tailor who said there was so much work to be done that we should just get a new one for less money at Zara. Ha! the cheapest suit there was almost $300. Then as long as we were near Nordstrom's we thought we'd see if there were any sale items there. We saw suits, and walked in their direction, which turned out to be the Armani boutique, where we were "greeted" and I use the term loosely, by a pretentious little salesclerk who made a face at us as though we had both just farted loudly. I was tempted to remind him that he was a clerk in a department store, and not minor royalty, but that would have been ungracious, and his bad manners didn't have to bring out mine, now did they? They sent us to H&M, almost the same as Zara, but worse quality, from there to Club Monaco, to the Men's Warehouse. Penny's came up, but as tight-fisted as we need to be, I wasn't going to send him out there wearing a piece of cardboard. So with Macy's just up the street, we decided to check it out on the off chance that they'd have something suitable. In their tiny boy's formalwear section, there was a limited but decent selection, all at 30% off. LBM tried on a couple, and finally a Calvin Klein navy blue number w/bright blue shirt brought out his tawny skin (courtesy his Jewish dad) and beautiful eyes. The saleslady really tried to talk me into a Macy's card, but when I explained how much trouble I get in with such things, she still gave me the extra 20% off the sale price, to bring this very nice suit and shirt to ...$77. Does anyone besides me hear the Hallelujah Chorus? Bless them all and their big red star. read more

Me and my family members were stocked in the elevator for more than 2 hours! We called emergency and pressed all the emergency buttons nobody helped us. It was hot my husband got insomnia I have a heart problems so it was really tough !!!! After one hour the guy came and did something but it was useless saying us one second and taking 25 minutes it's not a SERVICE! You guys should care about your customers at least ppl life! What can I say about Macy's that hasn't already been said? It's a great place, not as pricey as nordstrom's but their stuff is just as good. As always, Im drawn to the MAC counter...girls and their makeup, eh? That can get expensive when you're dropping 15 to 20 dollars for one color of eyeshadow. Of course when its a slow day and one of the clownish looking gals offers to do your makeup, you may shy away inwardly looking at her peacock-feather-colored face, but almost always end up accepting a free makeup session (as by appointment they run about 100$ i believe). read more

Macy's sucks! A clerk thought that she new the return situation and refused to look at my wife's receipt, which would have told them that there was an amount that was a gift that was attached to the return. My wife didn't know to say that it was a gift return, and frankly it was not her job to know all the correct words to say. That is the job of the clerk. Any way to make a long story short, the money attached to the gift was returned to the credit card that it was bought on, essentially taking the birthday gift away! Macy's said that there wasn't anything they could do about it and tried to blame it on my wife instead of taking ownership of the fact that the clerk just didn't care enough to look at the receipt. So my wife is out of her birthday gift which was $10. Wow Macy's just lost two lifetime customers over $10. Wow. Great way to do business! read more

This is a review on the Jewelery Department. What a disaster of a place to buy and choose rings, specially if it's for a special occasion such as a wedding. My Fiancee and I were browsing for wedding bands around Union Square recently and we decided to stop by Macys to see what they had. First, it took a long time for us to be helped. Once we did get help we were able to try some rings and ended up choosing one that had a good price and we both liked. The experience to purchase it was ridiculously long because the lady that helped us was super slow and they have to get you on the phone with the bank and such. They sent the ring to get resized and after a week we went back to pick it up, but they had sized it too small. We had to re-send it back. Two weeks later we went back and the ring never left to get resized. We called a week later, and nothing again. Finally we got a call to pick it up. Once we get there, again... such a long wait to even get help. Once we get the ring, it finally is the right size. Although, the ring has some dark spots in some of the gaps between the diamonds. The lady pretends that she is not seeing it eventhough we are showing it to her. We were very frustrated that our original ring was somehow swapped with a different one during resize. We ask for a refund, and we will never be back there to buy any kind of jewelery. read more

if i could put zero stars, i would have. okay, here's the positives: the salespeople in the furniture section were really nice to me. and now, the newyorker in me will come out. i bought a nice sofa from them ten weeks ago. they told me i would have a five week wait. i said okay, it's worth it. and it arrived with a broken leg. ugh. but it's not intentional, it wasn't done on spite. it happens. it happens. so i went back to macy's to reorder. they were nice to me. since i ditched my old sofa a day before, i needed something to sit on. they told me i need to buy a loaner sofa that would be refunded upon return. no problem. i had an orange loveseat in my living room for five weeks, finally, the day arrives. and i get a call from macy's asking me if i still want my sofa to be delivered. ummm...why wouldn't i? well, it arrived with a cracked frame and a missing leg. cracked frame and a missing leg. no they di'int. so i told them that i'm cancelling my order. i told them to pick up the loveseat because i'd rather sit on my hardwood floor than have the taint of macy's infesting my living room. and i told them i'm ripping up my macy's card as we speak. point of the story: macy's sells stuff they can't deliver. screwem. read more

A bathroom surprise! Yes at Macy's (actually the old I Magnin's bathroom on the 3rd Floor ) Unfortunately, I cannot speak for the Men's, but during the 1950s, Mr. Maginin wanted the Powder Room to be special. When you enter the Ladies Room on the third floor of the old I Magnin side, this magnificent anitique humongus room is a sight to behold. (Macy's build a facade modern bathroom before you enter this room- It's in the center pass the sinks.) Yes, it's hidden and only those that knows it exist uses it. The interior has marble floors (white) and the walls except for the mirror is marble-jade green. The bathroom fixtures are the old 1920s style and there are crystal chandeliers. Art deco. I must say that I'm less than impressed with their customer service. I just got off the phone with Ellen, the assistant manager and I really was shocked at the way I was being spoken to. I had my wallet stolen there this last Saturday and while I know its not their fault it was stolen- what I do find them to blame for is the fact that their sales clerks let the thief use my card SIX times in under an hour to purchase almost $1000 worth of merchandise. Considering Macy's swears their policy is for ID to be checked for every credit purchase, its more than alarming that this clearly didn't happen. When I reported the theft to the Manager, Howard, he was wonderful. (The two stars are for Howard!) He was respectful, apologetic, understanding and embarrassed- like you guys should be. The next day I faxed him my credit card statements and SFPD Case# and just a little while ago I got a call back from Ellen on Howard's behalf. Not only was she disrespectful and condescending, she was making excuse after excuse as to why/how they aren't to blame for these fraudulent transactions. Even after she told me that her security department has footage to be turned over to the police that includes a couple clear face shots of the thief! Not only is it absolutely unacceptable that this happened in the first place, her tyring to justify it is a slap in the face. Guess what Ellen- whatever systems YOU think YOUR store has so effectively in place... aren't! Clearly there is a total breakdown over there. Furthermore, how can one not begin wonder whether or not Macy's is actually employing people that are in on it. The fact that she didn't seem to think they did anything wrong is more than disconcerting. She also had the audacity to tell me that I couldn't prove that her sales clerks didn't look at an ID to verify it matched the name in the card. Well thats funny for two reasons. Firstly, what are the odds that whoever stole my wallet was also my dead ringer? And secondly, and most importantly Ellen, the name on the credit card that had five of the six purchases DID NOT MATCH MY DL!!!! The card was in my mother's name so that kills that ridiculous theory of yours. I basically want to know how I am supposed to feel safe shopping at Macy's when I don't feel like you do very much to ensure the protection of your customers. I can't use my own cards without my id so how could this have happened that many times in that short window of time? Ellen was also only able to offer a discount at my next time of purchase to make it right. I receive discounts in the mail from Macys every week so that really isn't very impressive, especially since I'm now inclined to shop at Macys far less frequently, which I feel even more strongly about after having to deal with Ellen. It's also a pretty humerous offering considering I don't have a dime to my name until I receive new cards and go through the process of getting the charges reversed! read more

Every season my sister and I have a Christmas tradition. We go to San Francisco. One of the biggest parts of our trip is going to Macy's. We always enjoy the shopping. There are so many floors of clothes to look at we really enjoy it. We get a lot of good deals and there is a large variety of clothing which makes it really fun. We also love to go to Starbucks and watch the ice skaters and look at the amazing tree. I just want Macy's to know how much I appreciate all they do!!!!! It is one of the last large affordable department stores with quality merchandise. We hope we get to continue our tradition. We as a society have to appreciate what we have. The store has been around for so many years. And has done so many wonderful things for people to enjoy. The Macy's Parade, the tree in Union Square, the decorated windows in which they displayed animals to be adopted. It's so upsetting to have found tags from people taking merchandise from the store. Shopping for jeans is not exactly my idea of fun. Shopping for other articles of clothing, shoes and accessories are exactly my idea of fun. So when I went to buy jeans yesterday, I was expecting to be frustrated and not find anything that I had in mind. This was until the nicest sales guy ever helped me out. He found me the perfect pair of black skinny jeans and a pair of Citizens that were petite so I don't have to hem them. He did tell me that any jeans over $150 would be hemmed for free but forgot that since I was getting 20% off, I would have to pay $14 to get my jeans hemmed. This did not make me very happy, so he gave me a Starbucks card. Really sweet and the best service I've ever had from Macy's. The bedding people kick ass also. read more
