I hate Macy's. I tried to buy a $600 mattress and they tried to charge me $300 to deliver the thing. What a damned rip off!

This is for the San Francisco store. Your shoe department is great. Why no helo? Poor Dante he had just started with no training. He was the only one who approached us after 15 minutes. He admitted he was new & did not have any shoe trailning. I loved the shoe department I thought I was back in NYC what a let down. Several managers walked by us. They did not put more help on the floor I used to work at Macys, and I don;t appreciate "suits". read more

This review is ONLY for Macy's Watch Repair, which is on the 6th floor. (I dislike this Macy's overall, due to lack of staff and unwillingness to help or answer questions). Love shopping here anytime I visit the U.S. Staff are friendly and helpful and go out of their way to assist. Had previously visited Nordstrom and Bloomingdales before going to Macy's. Certainly far better choice in terms of handbags and cosmetics and I found this to be a better shopping experience. Highly commend the staff on the Benefit counter. Tip: Bathrooms on the 8th floor Cheesecake factory, 6th floor east side, and second floor. I visited Macy's the other day as we were wandering around the city. I had known it offered a really good view of Union Square and I wanted to see for myself! We entered the store on the east side and were almost immediately greeted by an escalator, which we took up. What I didn't realize is that the entire building is Macy's. The place is huge! Each floor had a distinct and sizable selection of products, and each floor was much more massive than I expected. After about the 5th floor, the escalators became much more narrow. Once we got to the seventh floor and final escalator, we walked to the north end of the building, where we found the elevator and a final escalator up to the Cheesecake Factory, which offers an outdoor view of Union Square from around the Macy's sign. It was extremely crowded with tourists though, and I felt a little bad for disturbing the guests that were actually eating close by. If you don't want to be pressed for space, the 7th floor offers just as good a view through the Macy's floor-to-ceiling windows. Also, there's a food court in the basement with a great selection of places to eat, along with a ton of tables to eat at! It was pretty empty when we were there but I think it would take a lot to fill it up fully. All in all, it was a neat experience. Macy's was definitely a store I'd return to for shopping, and the views of union square were worth entering to take a look at. read more

I've always loved the Macy's in Union Square...fun place to shop. But with the men's department moving to the main Macy's. The place is unorganized and messy, not even the staff knows where certain departments are located. I found myself going up and down the escalators trying to find women's petites. read more

I guess I should be thankful that they do have the escalators and the elevators here, but it's just such a pain. The only thing I ever shop for when I come here is their furniture.... which is all the way to the top, minus the Cheesecake Factory. The designer young womens collection here is gigantic! Seven, Citizens, Tart, Velvet, Lily McNeal, BSBG, etc... I come here after a bad day and get lost in the row after row of clothing racks. I have never left empty handed. If not clothes then the shoe section is to die for as well! read more

I don't like shopping at macy's. It's crowded, you can never find anything, and the staff there are just too inattentive. Most of the sales people at macys tend to be bored, yawning, not really interested in what you're looking for, and unless you're going to buy something for sure, they wont even give you a positive smile. I hate this place. BUT, I went in here on a Thursday afternoon, looking for a specific sweater from BCBG. I went in, went to the second floor, and looked around. No BCBG counter. So I went to a sales rep, and asked where it was. She passively said, "upstairs". Uhm.. okay, there are 6 floors to this place. I go to the third floor, and look around yet again, and fortunately find the BCBG section. I look around for the sweater, and cant seem to find it in the color Im looking for. I asked a sales rep that was roaming in the section (Alena, she seemed like she was in her early 20's, late teens), and asked if the sweater (i pointed to), was available in black at the store, and she checked. No luck. She asked if i wanted to see if it was available at another macy's. Desperate, I asked her to look around. She found one at the Stanford macy's, and put it on hold for me. I asked if there was a lavender color one, and she excitedly told me that that one was on sale, and that she would call around other stores, bc they didnt have it at the SF location. After calling 6 different Macy's all over california, she finally found one. She was really detail-oriented, and made sure through the phone with the other sales rep, that it was the correct SKU number, the shipping address was correct, and that the F&F coupon discount code was applied. After this experience, I wouldnt mind visiting the BCBG counter at macy's in SF again. She really went beyond for one sweater, and that was the best customer service ive experienced at any macy's location. read more

The bigger the store, the more the merchandise. I don't make it to the Downtown store often enough but I'm pretty happy when I'm heading there because like all female brains, I like looking at color, texture and variety. The synapses are fully engaged when you walk into this store. There is one clerk in the Petites dept whom I just love because she's always sweet and has so much patience with her customers. The others are union workers, clearly there to collect a paycheck and nothing more. You can walk around this store all day going from dept to dept and "oooo and ahhhh", touch & smell the merchandise. What a great way to kill a day mindlessly. The downside, you have to fight the crowds, local folks and tourists (yeah, those people) and the crowded muni while you're lugging your purchases and hoping not to get mugged on the way home. read more

This is hands down my favorite Macy's ever! And I say this even having been to the one in NYC. I like the convenience of this store, I can get a lot done on a Saturday afternoon. I can start out with getting my eyebrows waxed at the Benefit Brow bar, then I can head up to the shoe department and finish off in the cellar to grab a jamba juice. The shoe department is like heaven on earth, you can spend some serious time and cash here. The best is searching in the clearance racks, some great deals can be found here. I got an awesome deal on some Coach sneakers. Oh and don't me started with the makeup department, I love it all. I love u Macys! read more

I dislike the Macy'sbeauty department. Disregard this if you are looking at clothes, shoes or housewares. Those sections would be 4 stars. Beauty section would be 1 star, thus the two star average. It all comes down to this - I found out today that to get a make up application done at Macy's cosmetics department you absolutly must buy three items. All the sales people were standing around looking bored, but I guess its policy? Two places told my friend and me about this, Bare Minerals and Dior. I feel that you are applying make up to my face in order to sell me on your products, and if I dont like them Im not buying them! Usually of course I assume to buy something in exchange for the service, and if I reeaaallllyyy like it....I might just buy everything! But just to tell me straight out I have to buy three items, I think that totally eliminates the purpose. You are trying to sell me, yes? I realize this is to eliminate people who come in to just "use" the make up people to get their make up done, but to me it just seems rude not to mention a horrendous sales technique. I hope this isnt some new thing at all the make up counters, otherwise I am just going to Sephora where they will do my make up for free and use the opportunity to sell me on a product. But even at Sephora, I will be avoiding Dior and Bare Minerals from now on. read more

I love this Macy's!!!!! It's not as big as the one at Herald Square in NYC but it's also A LOT less crowded. The Macy's in SF is 7 stories including the basement, but the top story is just for restaurants including Cheesecake Factory. The shoe selection here is very good and their dress selection is also very good. This Macy's has great variety with clothing at various price points. It's right next to Union Square and near lots of public transportation. read more

Aside from the NYC Macy's, this is my favorite location! I've become spoiled now though because when I go to Macy's in other areas, I'm so underwhelmed and their selection is ridiculously awful. Love the shoe department!! I can usually find pretty good deals. It's not always the cleanest store, and the clearance items look so messy all jumbled together, but the selection is extensive and reasonably priced! Their new MAC area is great too! read more

Great selection and okay prices, but not a good place if you're pressed for time. Or want halfway decent customer service. But yesterday the weirdest thing happened to me. After spending half an hour trying on shoes I needed for a wedding I was flying out for that night, and another 15 minutes waiting for the saleslady to bring out the other shoe, I found the perfect shoes and went to go pay. I'm ready to make the swiping motion with my credit card and am just waiting to see the total come up on the screen when one of the two sales girls behind the counter say "Ma'am? We can't sell you these shoes." "What are you talking about?" "These shoes are supposed to go back to the manufacturer." "What's wrong with them?" "I don't think anything, but the computer says they're supposed to go back to the manufacturer. That's why the price is coming back as $0.01. They don't have a price in the system." "But I saw them on the website." "They might only be available online." "But they're the only ones that fit me." "I'm sorry." "I don't understand why you can't sell me the shoes." "We're not allowed to, ma'am. I'm sorry." The two look at each other, then look at me dumbly, feigning some kind of sympathy. So I turned around and walked out. I guess I should have demanded to speak with the manager and refused to take no for an answer, but I was in such shock from the confusion over why a department store would refuse to sell me merchandise they had on the floor and that I intended to purchase for the marked price. It doesn't make any sense! If anything, they as sales people should have recognized the ridiculousness of the situation and called their manager over to see if anything could be done. Seems like that would never happen at Nordstrom or Bloomies, where they even go out of their way to help you with a return. read more

Oh Macy's Union Square how I love you!..ha ha I have been here a million times but still enjoy coming here....I actually used to work for Macy's back in the day and had a lot of meetings here when I was young...And I always enjoyed walking around and getting lost during my breaks & etc....So I was up here a few weeks ago, and why haven't I seen the jeans section before?? Once I discovered it I was in love! ha ha Hudson Jeans, 7 Jeans, Citizens, etc. galore!! I was just in that section for over an hour!! Also found all of my wedding china up in housewares. So my husband and I were able to pick up a couple of missing pieces..At the time there was a beautiful purple, lavender scene decorating the department which was also worth checking out....This Macy's is one of my favorite places to come to when I am in Union Square.. read more

If you shop at Macy's, this place is for you. Multiple floors of large selections of name brand clothing. Shoes, shoes and unlimited shoes filled half of the floors. Massive kids clothes selections that you can't find at a regular Macy's. You can find great deals if you have the energy to go through their sale racks. They also have good selections of restaurants and a ice cream shop on the bottom floor. read more

I will give you 3 stars Macy's, because of the beautiful suede, and patent Calvin Klein sling back, peep toe sandal heels I just bought for 75% off, you can be a good deal sometimes, but shame on you! Making me search, all over your shoe department for-eva for a sales person so I could get my pair and try on the shoes. I think I counted 2 and a half sales people for the entire shoe department. The men's suit section is as good as it gets. And a big part of that was Chuck. I called him with exactly what I was looking for - he put it on hold for me for a couple of days so I could get in there. When I came to the store, he was the first person who greeted me - he quickly got the suit and then fitted me - marked the alterations - in what seemed like less than 10 minutes. I've never had such as easy and quick experience buying a suit - will definitely shop at Macy's San Francisco more often. read more

This is my favorite department store. They have an awesome variety of Mens clothing. Its Macy's Westcoast flagship store. The sales and clearance's are excellent, just bought a $700 dollar suit for less then $200. How about $185 Ecco dress shoes for less then $75.00.
