I have been coming here for years and it's always the go to when in Sylva. The pizza here is very NY, and that is a good thing! Thin crust and crispy. I love the Beyond burger slider and their tomato soup is sooo good! I've tried everything and its all good. Affordable prices and decent portion sizes. This isn't the kind of place we frequent typically but my niece goes to school at WCU and had heard good things so we decided to try it out. We were BLOWN AWAY. This is hands down the best food we have had in North Carolina. Their menu is quite varied and has something for everyone, including your dog (who is allowed inside!) What We Ordered: Garlic Knots (table) Thai Coconut Curry with Grilled Chicken (me) Firecracker Beef Sloppy Joe (sister) Korean BBQ Pork Sandwich (Mother) Cheese Pizza (niece) What We Thought: Garlic Knots - Good not great. A bit dark/overcooked for our liking. Could use more garlic on the outside. Marinara was chunky but yummy. 6/10 Thai Coconut Curry - INCREDIBLE. 3/4 of us plan to order this next time. My niece said this will be her go to off campus meal next semester, overthrowing Taco Bell for the honor. The curry was rich and thick and had the perfect amount of sweetness. The spice level was mild but present. Chicken was perfectly cooked,with no weird or gristly bits and the zucchini and carrots added a nice textural element. 10/10. Would recommend and in fact did recommend on the way out of the restaurant to the girls at the table next to ours. Firecracker Beef Sloppy Joe - My sister originally ordered this but my mom took a single bite claimed it was her own and demolished it in minutes. She couldn't stop ranting and raving over it. That's perfect because my sister didn't love it, too many Bell peppers for her liking. 8/10 Korean BBQ Pork Sandwich - This was a real surprise. It's so dimensional and also well balanced. The sesame flavor is strong but the kimchi adds the acid you need for it. This would be amazing with a heaping helping of seaweed salad on top too. 9/10 Cheese Pizza - A dark horse! Way tastier than we expected it to be. Thin crust but lots of flavor. Texture was great. Will reorder! We also had the housemade chips with beer cheese and the reviews were mixed. We all enjoyed the chips, particularly the texture, but the beer cheese was too heavy on the beer flavor. If you love beer cheese you'll enjoy this, if you don't, skip it! read more

This place was doing a brisk business on a Wednesday night. And it's trivia night to boot. Bonus points for that! Co-located with Lazy Hiker Brewery, this walk-up window pumps out some great food. I had the General J's salad. It was all good. The chicken was tender and well glazed with a seasoned sauce. The pickled onion and carrot added crunch and tang. The rice is filling, and the kale gives you that feeling that you're eating healthy I'll try the pizzas if I come back. Having the Lazy Biker options in the same building is a bonus. Wow! Fast friendly service and amazing food! We had Korean wings - SO TASTY $18/12; pretzels and beer cheese - serious homemade perfection! We also had a pepperoni pizza and Korean BBQ pork bowl. It was later (8:30 pm) so we took our food to go but the dining room was super laid back and welcoming- they serve doggy dishes too. The Korean pork bbq was so delicious! I finally visited this little restaurant on Main Street. We were pleasantly surprised, first of all, to even learn Mad Batter was there, and we eat lunch on Main Street often. But, looking on Yelp, there it was, so you know we HAD to go check it out. The menu online had some interesting dishes. Let's go! You enter and go down a hallway to the restaurant. One of the worst customer service experience I have ever had. I placed an order online at about 6pm and the pick-up window was from 6:10 to 7:30. I called the restaurant the ask if there was a more narrow pick up window since an hour and 20 minutes is a pretty big difference and not far away. I asked the hostess if she could give a better estimate and if i should leave then. She puts me on "hold" and proceeds to insult me without ever putting the phone on hold. She then comes back and says "the pick up window is what it says". I even clarified that it could be anytime between now and an hour and a half, and she said "yep" and hung up on me. I called back and told her to cancel the order and spoke to the manager who said they would cancel it. They charged me instead and texted me my order was ready. Funny thing is all the hostess had to say is it sent a text when the order was ready but instead had to be completely rude. I called back for several days after and was told every time that a manager was too busy to talk. I never got my $70 back and would never order from there again. read more

We were wanting to get pizza and I had never had Mad Batters pizza so we decided to give them a try. We went with too of the favorites 14 inch pies that being the High on the Hog which is a meats pizza and then also got the Supreme which everyone knows what that is (but with no peppers) Our pizza would be ready within 15 to 20 minute so quickly we headed that way. Once arriving our pizzas were ready. Once home the pizzas did look good but the Supreme did end up still having the peppers on it. I will also say they also were not loaded with toppings but but didn't stop us from quickly getting into them. The crust was pretty thin which I liked and the flavor of the sauce was very good. This made for a very crushable pizza. I probably finished 4 slices in about 5 minutes. I was also a fan of the fact that the pepperoni they use are the big ones. Will for sure have to get the 16 inch pies next time though but we will for sure be coming back. read more

This small kitchen is attached to the Sylva Lazy Hiker Brewery! You order at the counter and find a seat at the brewery and they bring it out to you. Great ambiance inside and out. Shaded patio with plenty of seating. Pups allowed inside and out! We enjoyed some beers, a band, and split a pizza. We loved the pepperoni pizza, it had a great crust !! Came in for dinner, ordered the chicken sandwich and it was literally cafeteria chicken. Obviously frozen chicken. The sandwich was $13 and couldnt even live up to Chick-fil-a quality. When I asked the manager for something different instead, he shrugged at me and said there is nothing he could do. Very disappointed with the food and the way they treated me when i asked for them to do something about it. Short Version: GET THE GARLIC KNOTS While taking a little vacation in Sylva with family we came to downtown and wound up at the Mad Batter Kitchen for lunch! Also attached to the Mad Batter is the Lazy Hiker Brewer. Very convenient to grab a beer and place your food order at the counter, you can then grab a spot in the spacious inside area, or step outside to a very nice patio! They gave us numbers to put on our tables and brought our food out to us once it was ready. With our group, everyone ordered their items, but there was a good bit of sharing so everyone got to try some different things. I had an apple pork sandwich which was very tasty! Pork shoulder, sliced apple, and a yummy BBQ sauce! I also tried some bacon cheese fries, and a bite of a bacon and goat cheese wrap which just as good! But then, someone ordered garlic knots that were brought out..... we were sitting outside, and you could still smell them from a couple tables away! if you like garlic, you need to try them! These were probably the best garlic knots I can remember tasting and the marinara sauce with them was flavorful as well! At least two other unrelated groups commented on them and went to order their own after the first basket came out! Absolutely a must try. Nice spot for a relaxed lunch and a beer outside on the patio. From some pictures on the wall, it looked like they also had some cool events previously in the inside area (movies, music, etc) , so once able too after things return to normal, that may be something to look into as well if you are in the area. read more

If you want a drink from the bar you need to go there and get it separately. It's not even a full service bar. Beer and wine only poured. Paid for food up front then we had to go get our own place settings (not the cleanest dinnerware either). Appetizer came. Mozzy Knots. Served with a marinara so thin you could drink through a straw. Both were absolutely gross. Since there is no wait staff to ask no one cares. Obviously part of their stellar business plan. Pizza was on par with a $5 carry out. Nothing exciting there. So to wrap it up. No wait staff so your on your own. No time to look over menu order as you enter. no qualified bartender on staff with no idea what they serve. Food is food court quality at best. By the way you have to clean up after yourself There are a ton of great restaurants in the area. Pass this one by. You'll be better off. read more

Wandered into this place after a tour of Western because their online menu looked good. I was a little confused at first because we went down a long hallway and found ourselves in the Lazy Hiker brewery. An employee asked if we had been there before and then told us to grab a menu off the wall, pick a seat and walk back up to the cashier to order. The menu was extensive. I appreciated the gluten free options and my daughter appreciated the vegetarian options. I ordered the pick bowl with chicken which was on the daily specials board. It was an interesting combo -- grilled chicken, pico, black beans, coconut rice, feta, kale and balsamic viniagrette. Daughter loved her beyond burger and fries and husband enjoyed his regular burger and fries. Water was serve yourself as were condiments. It was convenient to have payed at the beginning and be ready to leave when done. I wish I could have tried a beer but it was early and we had a very long way to drive. Drove in from Florida and wanted to tryout something new. After spending 13 hours in a car we wanted to just sit down and eat. Service was excellent! So let me clarify, you don't have a waiter or waitress, you order at the counter and get your own condiments and utensils from a communal table. All of that I was fine with! The girl behind the register was nice as were the young ladies who brought us our food, in a timely fashion and piping hot! Now the food! I got the Killer tomato soup and the kale Caesar salad with avocado. The soup was too bland for my liking but the salad was excellent! Could've used more dressing, but the kale added and the avocado really made it quite good! My wife ordered the pizza, it was dry and tasted like it was reheated. Now if it were fresh, 7/10, but reheated, 4/10. My kids got the fried chicken sandwich and the chicken tenders kids meal. They didn't complain and I didn't sneak a bite so I can't give a review of that. Anyway, more was ordered at the table but everyone's review of the food was it was mid. The ambience and setting are gorgeous and downtown Sylva is beautiful at night at this time of year. We may have gotten there too late to get a real taste for the food. Sorry no pics. read more

Great little hole in the wall. Interesting setup, place order at register and then they'll deliver to table. Craft bar adjoins but is separate establishment- so you have to pay there for your beer. Staff was friendly and food was really good. Something for everyone! (Without the menu being overcrowded) Was tough to find the place though. A little larger signage would go a long way. read more
