Been following this amazing place in social media and today for my first time they did disappoint. Great healthy food choices. I had a pesto chicken panini that was fantastic. Also has a cute area to shop found some nice goodies for gifts and a zero waste utensil on the go set. Everyone should stop by and try this place the owner was amazing and so friendly.

In this area you can easily find pizza, fast food or Italian options. What you can't find, is a restaurant serving fresh, locally sourced, healthy food. Until, now. Let me add: delicious. I've only heard great things about Mad Hatters Cafe. It's cute, fun, and has a creative and constantly changing menu. They even have vegan options which is so incredibly rare for this location in Pennsylvania. We stopped in for dinner last night around 5:45pm. They were all set up for a 'paint and wine' class, so there was limited seating for non class participants. I ordered the Cran Apple Chicken Salad with Feta and my father had the Taco Salad and Potato Soup. The salads are large! Neither of us could finish them. It's so fresh they literally chopped the lettuce to order. Love it!!

Had lunch here today. My vegetarian sandwich was so delicious! And everyone at The mad Hatter is always so friendly. This is really the best place around for vegetarian, vegan, and fresh local produce. And did I mention the adorable frosted sugar cookies? Only a $1.25 :-)

I will definitely go back, and eat from their food menu, and take pics. I didn't take any pics, because our experience didn't seem to align with all the 4 and 5 star reviews. which signals to me, that our experience may not have been a normal experience. We had never been and had not heard much about it. I checked out their website first. Which is a fun looking website. It appeared to be a diner that also sold ice cream. We pulled in, there were outside tables set up under shaded canopies. Lots of space for kids to run around We noticed the front had a walk up and order Ice cream window. Past that was the door to the restaurant part. The restaurant inside area was small, The menu sounded amazing. Chili dogs, fried hot dogs, they had some interesting hot dog ideas, as well as Hamburgers, fish plates etc. shakes, Ice cream. Very laid back atmosphere. If you have kids, it will be a super, affordable win. It definitely has its place in Lodi, and I do see they are a big success with Ice Cream and take out. Which is what I wish we did. The first thing that hit us when we walked in was the smell of fish, it was a super strong offensive odor. I looked to my right and saw a few people at the table with fish baskets. I thought to myself, that must be where the odor was coming from. But wondered why they smelled so bad. We sat down, ooh'ed and ahhh'd over the menu, but still nose crinkled over the odor of fish. We decided that the kitchen must not have good ventilation either and we were smelling every fish fry they had cooked that day, and maybe even more days. I do not recommend eating inside. Then we noted the flies. We were swatting left and right. I know restaurants have flies, it is hard to keep them out of the kitchen, and they are expected in outdoor seating, but inside the restaurant. Nope! That's even a Big Nope for me. Little miss outdoors. We decided to leave the indoor seating area, skip lunch, and ordered Ice cream outside at the window. Dessert for lunch felt a bit naughty, in a fun way. Yes, I heard it too. I am an adult, that doesn't like adulting. Haha! We ordered soft serve twists. Our rational being that just the soft serve machine needed to be clean. So there was no chance of flys landing on it. We are not weird germaphobes, but once your brain starts down that rabbit hole, sometimes you just cannot find your way back, that was us. We were down the rabbit hole. The Ice cream was really good, ALL of the employees were very nice. We felt no judgement leaving the table and going outside to order Ice cream. While we were waiting for our ice cream, the wind shifted and the odor was just disgusting. This was outside, we took a look around and we found a Porto-potty on the side of the building. Just around the corner from the Ice cream pick up window, and next to that was a Dumpster. So take your pick on what caused the odor. While we were in our car we decided to play a game of what we would do differently, if we owned it. This what we came up with. 1) Deep clean the inside eating area 2) add ventilation to the kitchen and dining area. 3) add a mesh, magnetic fly door. 4) make sure employees are also swatting and disposing of flys. 5) move dumpster to front left side of parking lot. 6) buy a portable- potty trailer, those will need magnetic mesh fly doors on those as well.

This itself says so much about the restaurant. Food is consistently good, staff (including the owner) take the time to greet the customers & make them feel comfortable and service is very quick (Less than 20 minutes) My favorites were and still are falafel and mamoul cookies. In fact, I tried mamoul for the very first time here and got instantly addicted. They're shortbread cookies (made with a special impression) filled with either dates or fig paste. Not overly sweet and made with the right consistency, I highly recommend them. Prices are fair and although they have a dine-in area, last I checked, they allow only takeout. I can tell you that not one of their creations has been less than amazing! Everything is plant based, organic, fresh, and delicious. They make a number of signature sandwiches - all served on savory waffles (OMG the waffles!), made with careful attention to the combination of flavors and textures. This food is ART, people! The "What's Up Doc?" sandwich is their take on the classic cream cheese and lox bagel sandwich. Served on an everything waffle (like an everything bagel, except a waffle!) with their handmade cashew cream cheese (to die for!) and smoked carrot lox - carrots that are superbly flavored, marinated in special seasonings that actually capture the flavor profile of lox! Genius! Then there's the "3500 Club" - an eggless egg salad (made from tofu) on a scrumptious buckwheat caraway waffle. It's hands down the best vegan egg salad I've ever tasted. It's topped with their homemade pickled red onions, tomato and spring greens. Basically the perfect picnic sandwich! The third sandwich option is "Peas and Love" - a chickpea based picnic salad made in the style of classic tuna salad. This is served on a lemon dill cornbread waffle. The blend of flavors is heavenly. It hits all the right notes you'd expect from the classic it's inspired by, with a novel twist thanks to the herby, savory cornbread waffle. A healthy and delicious way to get your protein! Now let's talk about their handcrafted spreadable cheeses! I can't even describe how amazing these sunflower and cashew based cheeses are. I buy a container or two and eat them all week long for lunches and easy dinners. Paired with their artisanal crackers (which are amaaazing!) it's the perfect protein-filled snack. They make a number of flavors, like roasted red pepper and lemon rosemary. All gluten free by the way. I like to spread them on all kinds of sandwiches, make toasted cheese sammies with them...brilliant!! To accompany all this deliciousness they serve rosemary infused hand squeezed lemonade! It's basically summer in a cup. Best lemonade I've ever had. Warning - it is addictive!! Wow, I can't believe how much I wrote here. It's just so exciting to find a 100% vegan, plant based, organic food vendor at a farmer's market - and then for it to be this flippin' good - it's a veg foodie's dream come true!!
