After making my takeout order she talked with me for 20 minutes about her family, business (has operated this restaurant for 53 years!), and travels. First of all, I wanted to say that the main owner of this place is the kindest woman I've ever met her whole ethos is bringing people together to have conversations and I think just to have that mentality and compassion for people and that desire to bring people together around food is something that I inspired to Inculcate in myself. She honestly sat down and right away told me about her story told me about her family allowed me to join the conversation as well and it just felt like I was at home just for her. My mom and I were in town looking for an apartment for me for the fall semester at Penn College of Technology when we stumbled upon the perfect little lunch spot! I was in Williamsport overnight after hiking Ricketts Glen and looking for a place to get dinner based on the Yelp reviews I decided to give The Olive Tree a try. I ran into into a couple of nits finding the restaurant; first it was the First Friday on W.4th so street closed to traffic and plenty of people out enjoying themselves. After finding parking nearby I tried to find The Olive Tree based on the address and it looked like the place didn't even exist; finally after a couple times around I noticed the small sign that said the place was in the back of the building. I circled around and found The Olive Tree tucked in next to the back parking lot. Walking in you find a small place that is packed with femininity, history and charm. It feels very old school with a huge chalkboard menu, chandeliers, wire chairs and glass tables and many flourishes. My attention was immediately drawn to the display case of a wide variety of delicious looking baklava. I was greeted by the owner and grabbed a table to look at the menu, which had plenty of vegetarian and seafood options. I decided to order the variety platter to get a nice selection of different tastes. The platter came with spanakopita, dolmathes, vegetables, hummus, skordalia, tzatziki, feta, and grilled pita bread; I asked to leave off the olives. What I got was an beautifully presented buffet of flavors, textures and some of the best Mediterranean food I have had. All of the food was clearly made in house using traditional recipes. The spanakopita was excellent, thin layers of crisp dough surrounded perfectly seasoned spinach and feta cheese. The dolomathes, grape leaves stuffed with rice and spices and rich olive oil. The hummus was hearty and flavorful, just the right bit garlicky. The tzatziki was smooth and light, a perfect compliment to the raw broccoli and carrots. This is the first time I have encountered skordalia, the 'Greek penicillin" a delicious combination of potatoes, garlic, dill and olive oil. The pita bread freshly grilled and perfect on its own or for dipping. I am not a huge fan of feta cheese, but here it was better then I have had before; the owner explained they drain the water and soak the feta in olive oil which makes it smoother and less salty. A truly excellent dinner and plenty of food. Delicious, vegetarian and healthy I was incredibly pleased with my choice to try The Olive Tree. I would strongly recommend giving them a try either to eat there or for take out. If nothing else I would return just to try some of the baklava. read more

She asked us if we had a reservation. We told her no. She then said"I can't possibly serve them ( the other 4 diners) and you" and walked back to the kitchen. And that was that. They had poor service and they didn't even acknowledge the fact I was in the building and it took sooo long for our food to even get to our table that it was cold then god for bid our waitress taken it back but what really made me dislike it was their poor people skills. read more

This is a very small restaurant, best suited for takeout as there isn't much room to sit. The food is authentic Greek food and it's probably the only place around here you will get it. The last time I was there it was only one lady working there so there may be a wait. read more

I cannot say enough good things about my experience at this place. It was just me and Sophia, the owner, and I felt as if I was treated to an amazing meal while visiting a long-lost Greek Aunt. I laughed, was intrigued, and thoroughly enjoyed every moment. I ordered the Greek salad and asked for chicken and gyro meet on top. It was the best Greek salad I've had. Everything from the dressing, to the garlic bread, to the enormous variety of baklava, and even the olives all come by her loving hands. I was just passing through the area and wish I was closer. Loved everything about this charming Mediterranean cafe tucked back behind the main street in downtown Williamsport. Sophia is an incredible chef and a wonderful hostess. The menu is extensive, and everything is fresh, homemade and beautifully presented. We loved the moussaka. Save room for dessert -- the trays of baklava are amazing. Williamsport is known for having really good restaurants, and we've been sampling as many as we can each time we visit our son who attends college nearby. But The Olive Tree is one we will definitely revisit time and time again. Word of advice: Sophia pretty much runs the entire place herself and does all the cooking. Call ahead, if you can (there are only a handful of tables and the place gets busy), and give yourself time to enjoy your meal. It's absolutely worth it. read more

The food here is delicious, fresh and unique! Sophia, the owner and chef is delightful and does it all. The place is small, charming and cozy. I had the turkey and cranberry salad, hubby had the gyro platter. The lettuce in both meals was not the typical iceberg lettuce. Sophia provides beautiful, fresh greens that are so tasty! I also enjoyed a wonderful coffee, coffee cake biscotti, while hubby had butterscotch baklava. Mmmm good! Seems like most of the positive reviews here are from people who almost never eat Mediterranean or vegetarian food. I had high hopes for this place, but it was absolutely disgusting. The hummus is green, the falafel was dry and unsightly, I have never had a worse "Mediterranean" meal in my life. A lot of the food here looks likes it's been sitting around for days or weeks, definitely do not go here if you're looking for anything fresh! This is not the place for fresh ingredients at all. This place is a absolute must if you are in Williamsport. After two of my coworkers on a work trip raved about it, I had to give it a try. Since I'm gluten free I was a little hesitant but when I ordered and said no bread she immediately offered a gluten free tortilla. It was so good. Tasted like it was heated in a pan with butter. Yum! I ordered the chicken livers, a Greek salad and the artichoke soup. It was some of the best livers I've ever had. If fact I went back the next night to get them again. Loved that the salad was mixed greens and not iceberg. Sophia is so nice too! I've never seen so many types of baklava. Saw this advertised on our drive, stating, "fresh ingredients with vegetarian/ vegan options." Disappointed in vegetarian gyro and lamb gyro. Vegetarian had old wrinkled dried carrots, the tzatziki was watered down and we paid an extra $3 each, for a side of fries, which tasted like old oil and hard. We got an old ketchup bottle with no lid and .99 center sticker on it. It was dusty too. Ordered a can of kombucha which never received the can, instead a glass filled with ice and some of the beverage. Overall disappointed and overpriced. read more

This is a great small Greek restaurant. Sophia (the owner) was very kind and personable. I highly recommend the sun-tea and the falafel. The environment is very cozy and laid back. Sophia is amazing! She runs this great place pretty much solo. When we first walked in she was prepping baklava sheets behind the counter for the copious amounts of baklava she has for sale! She had every flavor you can imagine for dessert or a treat on the way out. My hubby had the Musaka and it was divine! I had Sophia's special/favorite which was a lamb gyro topped with fried potatoes and tons of yummy sauce. We stayed there almost three hours just talking with her about her home in Greece. She cooked us up some fresh mushrooms with sea salt and lemon juice. Those mushrooms brought actual tears to my eyes. They were so good!!!! Call ahead to make sure she is open! We saw the great reviews on Yelp and had to try. This place is a gem! Sofia is a wonder, a great cook, and hostess. My husband and I had decided on a late lunch, and we got so much more! NOW, if you are looking at a place for fast food, this is not your place...THIS place is cooked to order, and it is worth the bit of wait. Sophia cooks authentic Greek cuisine. We had Mediterranean Salads with grilled chicken and, my husband had lamb. They were awesome! We both had iced tea, that was home made as well. I was really in the mood for some gyros and it looks like this was the right place to some authentic mediterranean food and they were ok nothing amazing but what I did not like was the service. first when I got there the only person working was on the phone for the first 10 min or more while I was standing there just looking as she just continued with her conversation and after a long Long wait of me just standing she finally finished her conversationand, got the food I ordered over the phone, I give her my credit card she tells me they don't take credit cards. What !!!! Is 2017 I don't own a business and I can take cards ridiculous. But ok if you don't want to take cards at least say saw on your website or at the entrance to the store. read more
