Every time I'm on the island I like to get brunch here. My boyfriend and i have never had a bad meal. Its a nice family place and it doesnt take long to get a seat. Sometimes in the summer there are a few flies hanging around but I mean you are at the beach and the doors and windows are open, what can you expect? Tiny, tiny place. Barely squeezed my family of 5 in last winter (I'm catching up on my Yelp reviews!) But I very much want to go back soon. One word: yum. Mad Martha's is awesome. I had the French toast special (peanut butter and banana stuffed) with home fries. Food was spot on, atmosphere was casual and friendly. Found this place oh a whim. If you are looking for very creative breakfast dishes, this is the place for you. We enjoyed sitting at the counter and watching the chefs cook our meals. They even were chatty with us, which we loved. I had the lobster cakes with eggs over easy. There was a special on the menu that I really wanted to try. Grilled asparagus with prosciutto over poached eggs. Yum. Only negative is that parking is private along the beach. There is a lot .5 mile away. Can't wait to go back. read more

Went up here to have a nice brunch with my mom and brother and could not have picked a better spot! The place itself is small but perfect. Bright, happy and bustling with energy. Love this kitschy little gem on Plum Island. I took a friend in from out of town and met another there for an informal meeting. I got the Cuban omelet which owner Kyree happily made with egg whites only -- wonderful combo of flavors with black beans, yummy salsa and sour cream. We all loved our dishes including the side plate that she sent out with their signature breads . I look forward to a return visit soon particularly for their Thursday night 3 course dinner specials! Went for breakfast for the first time this winter. Great family atmosphere and their menu was very diverse. The huevos rancheros was incredible. They used a corn salsa on it that complimented it so well. You have to check this place out. Be aware that parking is minimal, but it's well worth the walk. read more

Best breakfast spot in the entire country! Supremely friendly and attentive staff. Hands down best home fries I've ever had. A constantly changing specials board loaded with fresh, local ingredients. Definitely not your average, canned hash diner. While eating here the other day I personally witnessed the owner carve corn off the cob directly to a scramble. It doesn't get any fresher than that. Unbelievable location and a fun atmosphere. BYOB adds to the enjoyment. Again, and this is not hyperbole, best breakfast I've ever had! read more

Mad Martha's is a great breakfast/light lunch beach restaurant/cafe. And it's literally the only place to have breakfast on Plum Island. Food is great, servers friendly. I think they only serve dinner one night a week and it's BYOB. read more

I love this place! We go there for brunch often. It's a tiny little place right off the beach. We love to go in the early mornings and head to the beach afterward. There are always new specials and the egg scrambles are amazing. They make the best egg sandwiches. The ingredients are simple (fried egg with turkey bacon, avocado and mayo on an English muffin), but no matter how many times I try to make them at home I can't come close to how they taste at Mad Martha's. Have been to mad Marthas several times since it came under new ownership. Prices are very competitive especially when you see the size of the entrees. Caramelized banana French toast is fantastic, made with portuguese sweetbread. Parking can be a little challenging on a busy Sunday but there are at least 15 spots on the street out front. If you go, you have to try the homemade hash as well. I'm a breakfast person, so I haven't tried lunch yet but there are great specials, the day i went was an avocado Blt wrap for $7. Looked great but I had to have the French toast! Service is tremendous, two local ladies are the owner operators and it's their goal to know everyone by name. There is also a bloody Mary bucket or mimosa bucket available everyday, just bring your own champagne or vodka to mix! Also just steps from the beach! Try it!! read more

Mad Martha's is a great little New England treasure. I needed a Saturday out of the city and a good beach day. I stumbled on to this little gem before planting myself on the beach. I had the best made to order Turkey sausage omelette and fresh strawberry and blueberry pancake I have ever had. It was totally worth the drive from Boston. I left recharged and ready for a long beach day. The staff was attentive- always walking around refiling coffee mugs and making sure everything was cooked to perfection. Keep up the good work!! I will definitely be back in the near future. Or better yet...open up a location closer to Boston. read more

I brought my kids here in the Summer and we all enjoyed breakfast. I was delighted to learn that they were open today and it got me out of bed. the omelette was great, the coffee was right proper, and the potatoes were spot on. The food is delicious (esp the State Street omelette or Southie Classic Fold), the staff is fantastic and the location on Plum Island is as picturesque as they come. I hate to say it, because MM's used to be our favorite breakfast joint. However, after our last two recent visits, we will never go back. Today, after waiting an hour to be seated (ok, it's father's day, so we didn't mind the wait)..we then waited for over an hour after being seated and still had not been served. It took 3 requests to get juice, we were never offered coffee. The folks in the kitchen appeared busy, but no one around us was getting food, either. Very strange. Our waitress was horrible. Unless you had an alternative haircut and were covered with tattoos, she wouldn't even approach your table. When we did manage to flag her down, we were addressed only with scowls and shrugs, I believe ownership changed recently, and this may to be blame. Regardless, we ended up leaving an hour after placing our order (still no food!) and we will never go back. Avoid it...there are better restaurants in town. read more

If you're OK eating a sunday morning breakfast in something like a disco or on an airport runway, this place is for you. two sundays ago, i sat at the counter, unfortunately next to a woman who was a friend of an owner working behind the counter. the woman next to me carried on an hour long conversation with her friend, the owner, most of it at a high pitch directly into my ear because the owner was working a several feet away. I wanted to get up and move to a table, but didn't want to seem rude. i put up with it and got blasted with an earful of who-cares details about the whatever of their lives, interrupted only when the woman next to me was shouting into her cell instead of at her friend behind the counter. i I like the place so i forgot about it. back this morning and smart enough to sit at a table, not at the counter. no friends of owners within earshot, but this time i got a different audio experience: jacked up speakers blasting the kind of 80s rock that made you cringe even then, like billy jean by mj. i give up. Mad Martha's touts itself as a beach restaurant, but don't expect to hear the surf. i can deal with restaurant clatter when I eat out and even expect it. it's part of the experience. but at mad martha's, expect to be driven mad by it. better choice: something like angie's in downtown newburyport. food is as good (no complaints about that at Mad Martha's), but it's got about four times the crowd and less than half the volume. it's not a walk across the dune to the beach like mad martha's, but it's just a six minute drive. a small price to pay for a meal you can actually enjoy and hear your conversation with a friend or read a newspaper. read more
