This was my first trip to the Robinson location in a long time. My go to is the Shadyside Mad Mex. We did a to go order and one main difference between the two is in Robinson you pick up your order at the bar. We ordered online and the food was ready at the time the internet said it would be. Everything traveled very well to eat it at home. I ordered my go to herbivore tofu tacos. My husband ordered the red velvet burrito and my daughter had the dino nuggets which came with rice, beans and a brownie. We also ordered the black bean dip which NEVER disappoints. All in all a good experience. Masks are kind of a free for all right now. We wore ours to pickup our order but it really didn't seem like anyone else was wearing them at this location. read more

This review is only for the Robinson Township location. TLDR: Bad food, bad service, and even worse management. My friends and I met for an early dinner at Mad Mex Robinson on a Friday night around 5:30 (just in time for happy hour) and were very surprised by how empty the restaurant was. We were seated immediately and put in appetizer and drink orders. Everything was going well until we ordered entrees.... Order: Me: small plate of honey chipotle BBQ wings and a Casa salad. Friend 1: Steak Fajitas with added shrimp skewer Friend 2: Mad Mex quesadilla with steak Friend 3: some kind of burrito no beans After we placed our order, the server seemed to disappear. We waited at least 45 minutes on our food order and asked several times for more chips to hold us over. Then our food came: My Casa salad was fantastic but that was all I ate. The food runner came and asked who ordered the large order of honey chipotle BBQ wings. I told them that I ordered a small plate and they immediately left the table and later returned with a small plate of cold wings. Friend 1: Steak fajitas, which are prices at $19.50, only included four pieces of steak on a large bed of fried onions. Friend 2: Ordered a steak quesadilla but received the carnitas quesadilla. Friend 3: Order came out with beans but was able to immediately get a new plate as they spotted this as food was delivered. Although we waited a very long time in a seemingly empty restaurant, this was when things took a real turn. The server did not check on us to ask how the food was and when we decided to leave, we had to go to the hostess stand to ask for our check. When checks came, we were charged with what we ordered and not the food we received so our server sent the manager over to talk to us. Face to face, the manager was very pleasant and told us he would comp the food we did not eat. Then our second checks came from the server: some food was comped on my friend's check but my check only included happy our specials. We specifically asked the waitress about the lack luster steak fajitas and the server informed us that the manager told her that Friend 2 ate all of the steak. I really wish I had taken a photo of the fajita plate because it was pathetic and now we were being portrayed as liars (neither the server or manager delivered the steak fajitas to the table). After more discussion with our server, she was able to comp us for the food we did not eat and we split our checks. My friend paid cash and I paid with my card. Luckily I have alerts for my card set up and immediately noticed I was charged more than $20 than what my bill was. I notified the server of this and she apologized and claimed to fix it, but charges will have to drop off in a few days so we'll see about that. So long story short, we wasted about 2 hours on a round of drinks, chips & salsa, and a really bad experience. read more

This is my first stop after getting my hair done. The margaritas are strong and cold and HUGE! This time I actually decided to eat too. I had the chips and salsa. The chips are a little fragile and salty but still decent. The salsa is so thick but mild like I like it. I got the lunch combo of a Mad Mex burrito and tortilla soup. The soup was delicious, thick and cheesy. The burrito was delicious and big! I'm not sure if people eat these with their hands, I felt pretty dumb but I used a fork and knife. Filled with rice, grilled chicken, cheese, and my favorite-black beans! I only finished half and was full for hours after. All in all, a delicious and affordable lunch choice! read more

I've eaten at Mad Mex numerous times over the years ; however, this is my first time at this location. I've never had the gobblerito, which was basically the reason we came here. In the end I did not get the gobblerito , but I was very satisfied with my order. I had a Mexican-fresh bowl: butternut squash, Brussels sprouts, cauliflower, guacamole, cheese, chicken, corn, and black beans. Everything was fresh and spicy. I had leftovers too. My son's taco meal was great and he LOVED his brownie sundae! Only complaint was salsa was overly chunky. Otherwise, everything was great and I'd happily return again. read more

My family and I came to visit Mad Mex the other night while my cousin Sarah was serving. We sat two tables aside from each other and came during happy hour, so it was nice to get our drinks for happy hour price! We visited on New Year's Eve, so the place was packed. Most of the items on the menu aren't your typical Mexican food, I see this place as a Tex mex! We all ordered margaritas & later I ordered a shrimp burrito. The rice was a little dry, but I enjoyed my burrito as my family enjoyed their meals as well. Some got the nachos, quesadillas, tacos, etc & all were pretty satisfied. The food took very, very long to come out, but our waitress Sarah did a great job keeping us entertained and filled up on our drinks. She's kind, very patient, and diligent with how she serves. I think she did a great job & watching her treat the other tables with upmost respect was a great site to see! The bathrooms were clean and the inside was neatly decorated, I liked how the tables had coat racks as well. Anyone looking for urbanized Mexican food, this is your place to go! read more

Ordered Super Mad Mex Burrito and Thai curry burrito. The portions for both were large. It was good enough for our dinner and had enough for a decent lunch the following day. The Super Mad Mex burrito was tasty and the spice level was perfect. The chicken pieces was cooked gently, not burnt, not rubbery. The Thai curry burrito (ordered spicy) was lackluster; there was sign of "Thai flavor". Probably the only thing "Thai" was spicy! I love Mad Mex, any of their locations. Highland Avenue has a bit more energy due to it being an in town location. I sweat their Mex is some of the best outside of TX or Cali, as far as food in Los Estados Unidos. The service is always good. Their quesadillas are amazing!!! I have had their vegetarian and shrimp burritos and enjoyed those as well. These guys have done a great job keeping a concept relevant for over 25 yrs. read more

Well, what happened here? This location used to be pretty darn swell, but today's visit proves otherwise. Not sure if it was an off day or if things have just gone south here. I ordered the Nacho Mamas's Tacos platter today. Everything looked good when it cam out, but as I made my through the tacos, I noticed they were drowning in grease, as of the beef hadn't been drained. I wound up squeezing out the last three out of four tacos and there was a sizable grease puddle on my dish by the end of it. Pretty gnarly to say the least. We also ordered a Wing-a-Rito and bits of the chicken were charred too much. It was also leaking and runny due to a lot of the wing sauce being jacked to one side more than the other. The waffle fries were also overdone. Not going to give this a one star because their Gobbleritos are always amazing from here, but the food today could have been much better prepared overall. Our Drinks were too over powering and my husband's burrito barely had any steak in it. Then when I went to pay I seen we were charged full price and not happy hour prices. I went to the Robinson Mad Mex to get a Gobblerito. I just went off of my Keto diet and I was looking forward to it all weekend. When our party of seven arrived, the restaurant was a little less than half full. The hostess went to the kitchen to speak with what I can only presume was the manager. She returned and told us we would not be seated, because they had just seated a table of eight. There were multiple tables available to accommodate a party of our size, but we were told we would have to wait twenty to thirty minutes to be seated. In the end, the message was clear. I would give them 5 stars but their margaritas aren't as good as they used to be. I get they need to look at their bottom line, but since they started using pre-made mix. I've come here a lot less then I used to. I used to come twice a month to now twice a year. However, Their wing-o burrito or tacos have always been amazing! I usually get it Wild/San Francisco just because I love some garlic. They also have a vegetarian option if you get tofu! I was Vegetarian for lent and this helped with places to go when I did that. I'm not vegetarian any more but the Pennsyltucky tofu as an appetizer will always be my recommendation. That sauce is what makes it but its also fried and crispy to perfection! read more

If you like Mad Mex, you'll like it here. The decor and menu are both pretty standard for this particular chain of restaurants. That's not a complaint, by the way - I love Mad Mex. I love their menu, I love their drinks, and I enjoy stopping in to enjoy enormous meals at great prices. This particular location is not the closest Mad Mex to me, but it certainly struck me as the potentially least crowded location I've been too - especially since I visited on a Thursday. This Mad Mex is the first in the chain where I ordered tacos during my visit (I'm pretty fond of this chain's burritos and quesadillas and usually order one of those). I opted for their special tacos, which were basically veggie tacos with shiitake mushrooms and asparagus. What I got had a unique flavor profile and I really enjoyed it since it wasn't the typical round of taco toppings. And the tacos alone would have been plenty of food, but the order also came with rice and beans. I was more than satisfied with my meal. The only thing I could negatively comment on about my first visit here was that a friend's tea order was seemingly lost by our waitress. My friend ultimately had to ask for it again when the food arrived. But none of our food orders were wrong, and we each got our water, so for the most part we were all more than satisfied with our service. I would definitely come back again. read more

I was torn as to how low to rate our experience at Mad Mex. I'd say this place certainly falls somewhere between 2 or 3 stars. Here's why... Food: The food here is average (at best). We both ordered the "Mad Mex" quesadillas. I've had better quesadillas from Chili's. I actually even make a better quesadilla at home. We both agreed that it was just subpar. The real irony here is that you'd expect a menu item named after the actual restaurant to be superior in quality to the other menu options. Correct? The quesadillas here are just blah and as for the guacamole, I've had equally as good from Trader Joe's. They come with no sides, so expect to pay around $2 for about 4oz. of canned black beans. Service: So we stopped in over the weekend and ordered dinner. We stood at the hostess station for about 5 minutes patiently waiting for a hostess to appear. She never did. We finally walked to the bar and the kind bartender apologized and explained that things were slow, so they'd just sent home the hostess. Okay that's fine, but why not have the servers or someone else lookout for potential customers? Silly error. We requested to be seated on the patio. It was night time, but boy was it dark! I'm talking parking lot lights to read the menu dark! Here's a tip...Get some light so that customers can actually read the menu at night or just close the patio altogether after dark. I probably would have ordered more if I could have actually seen the menu. Let there be light. Our waitress kindly informed us that the kitchen was taking last call on orders and would be closing an hour before close of business. Fine. Restaurant hours are listed for close at 1am and we arrived 11:30. We understand that kitchens typically close early, but we were clearly being rushed to hurry up and pick something. Again, I would have liked to get an appetizer and dessert, but felt pressed for time. Lastly, as if the aforementioned wasn't enough, the waitress was apathetic. Just bad. Bottom Line: I wouldn't go here again. Food is average (or slightly below) and the service is lacking. There are far too many better restaurants in the area with higher quality standards. read more

Went out for celebratory dinner. Disappointed from start to finish. Sat for a bit after we were seated before any one brought water. My soda was flat and tasted weird and the root beer was all water and a hint of flavor syrup. Our server brought a refill of the root beer with even less flavor syrup than the first one. My food was lukewarm and the rice was either not fully cooked or had been sitting too long. Cheese in my dish was already in a big glob and set. Server was nice enough but not attentive. They are generally handling Covid well. Everyone was spaced out and everything was very clean. The only issue was one male server wearing a red bandanna that was very rarely over his face- I would have been very ticked if he was our server. I was irritated enough when he walked past us numerous times. All other staff wore a black Mad Amex mask. The food was good, though our kids did not get either the carrots/celery and brownie that were to come with their meals. I crave this place when I'm in SWFL, and it's always on the top of my list when we come back to Pittsburgh. The wing-o-rito in a bowl done buffalo wild is my go to here. I'm not certain that I've ordered anything else in years. It's the perfect amount of spice, and usually enough food for two meals for me. They have great happy hour specials here and their servers are always very friendly. It amazes me that most times the servers don't write a single thing down but they've always gotten it right. I wish their chips and salsa were included though like other Mexican places around town. I love their hipster vibe and they've picked great locations around town. Mad Mex is exactly how Yelp describes a two-star review: "Meh. I've experienced better". A Pennsylvania Mexican restaurant chain famous for its humongous margaritas and Thanksgiving-themed Gobblerito, Mad Mex offers average-tasting food at a price that isn't particularly friendly. Don't get me wrong, the burritos are very large, and you'll most likely have some leftovers, but you probably won't be overly motivated to eat your leftovers the next day. This restaurant claims to offer a mashup of a variety of cuisines (Mexican, American, Southeast Asian, Spanish), but for the most part, the food is very predictable and the flavors are very simple. Nothing on the menu is bad, but there really isn't anything on the menu worth writing home about either. I will say that their waffle fries are some of the best fries I've ever had, but besides that, I haven't found a dish on their menu that really excites me. This review would be incomplete if I didn't mention that I bit into a small stone in my take-out burrito when I ordered from this Mad Mex a few months ago. I contacted the restaurant chain, but never heard back. read more
