This place is very disgusting and distasteful. Although the food is made to order that doesn't deny the fact that it is a big infestation problem coming from the kitchen. NATS to be exact. I have gone here often for about 3 years now. Until recently this place was great and my favorite sub restaurant. The last 2-3 times ive gone here i get a sandwich with a pound of sauce. By the time i get to work/home to eat my food the sandwich is so soggy i pick it up and its flopping around due to being drenched in way too much sauce. After my last experience i will not waste money here anymore. The workers also like to complain about the business coming in which in my opinion is rude. The subs come in either an 8-inch or 12-inch size and white or wheat. They also have salads. Our food was ready very quickly and they had many people working so even long lines moved quickly. The people working there were also very good about cleaning empty tables and coming to tables to ask if everything was ok. I would say these are okay subs. The bread is chewy, and not really toasted. The only thing I liked about this place was the different hot sauces they have there! The store didn't open till 10:30, I was in a panic mode till Stephanie (GM) picked up the phone. She was a huge life savor and took my order. Firehouse Subs has great subs. The rolls are firm and nice and warm. Firm but not crunchy. I had the Steak House sub with mushrooms and Swiss cheese. This was just awesome. An 8 inch sub is plenty big enough but if you want more get the 12 inch. A combo has a bag a chips and a huge soda / pop. The Machine pic of the types of sodas to choose from is just awesome. This place is a better version of Quizno's. I'm trying to eat healthier so I shot myself in the foot by going here, because their sandwiches are covered in mayo and cheese and they taste oh so good just that way. They prepare your sandwich pretty quickly, and I've never had a bad meal here. The big draw, in my opinion, is that they have one of those new touch-screen soda machines, so you can create whatever concoction you want. They tend to run out of things but are pretty quick to change out the cartridges if you point it out. I've tried their specialty sandwiches and their basics and have never been disappointed. Do not try to order online. Even though it is an option (advertised online and in-store) when I placed my order online "they never received it" even though I have the receipt with my order, correct location, and confirmation number. I would normally not let something like this bother me (I work and I realize people get busy and technology is not always reliable), but the employee who approached me simply said "I never got an online order, you'll have to order in-store" and then pointed to the line going out the door. Firehouse is a bit out of my way to go to lunch, and the parking lot in the strip where it's located is way too small. Moe's is located in the same building, two doors down, so lunch traffic is very busy. Firehouse is step up from Subway, with better meats and comparable bread. Subs are served hot or cold. Instead of by the inch, the subs are sold medium or large. I can't remember the actual size to compare to Subways, but the regular hot sub prices are very comparable to Subway. Specialty hot subs are a little more. This Firehouse was the first restaurant in Lafayette to feature a touch screen Coke dispenser. The best part about the machine is that you can make your own vanilla Diet Coke. The worst part is that only one person can use it at at time. I always seem to get stuck behind the person who can't make up their mind or can't find the drink they want and flip through the menus. Some people just should not be offered endless choices. It scrambles their brains. To make it worse, I've sworn off carbonated sodas and drink only iced tea or water. So I'm standing behind someone who can't decide when all I want is some ICE for my iced tea. One day I'm just going to say, "Excuse me, I just want ice, would you please step away while you consider the life-altering decision you are attempting to make?" Menu is confusing because the stuff that is listed on the menu is not a full list of what comes on the subs. green peppers and pickles are inexplicably chopped instead of sliced. Great food. They do warm the meat right when you order (in a steamer) and the veggies are fresh. I like the NYSteamer and Italian (good Italian flavor, and yes the mayo with dressing, it creates a creamy sweet Italian sauce). If you get the medium it's about 8/9in and just the sandwich (I never get the combo) is just over $6 so it's reasonable. The sandwich alone is flavorful and filling, maybe even 2 meals if you're not too hungry. Definitely better flavor and more food than a 6in subway sandwich for the same price. My only complaint was that the meat isn't as juicy as you'd expect from a steamer, and even with the Italian I order xtra sauce. Heads up though, they are making it as it's ordered--toasting bread, warming meat and putting it all together, so it may take longer than you'd like if you're in a hurry (mostly on weekends). read more
