Mad Pie is a charming neighborhood pizza joint in Kakaako. Perfect for residents in the area, especially if you live near Keauhou Place. Fresh ingredients, amazing flavors, hugggee slices, "crispy-outside, fluffy-inside" sourdough crust, friendly service...what's not to like?! Prices range from about $29-$36 for an entire pie but know that the pies are huge. The individual slices range from $5-6. Regarding parking: You can get the first hour free and validated parking each hour after. I'm assuming it's the same lot as Down to Earth but can't be sure because I have only done takeout and either gotten dropped off or got lucky and scored street parking. Definitely worth checking them out and supporting a local business! read more

This is probably the best pizza you're gonna find in hawaii right now, and thats saying a lot with J. Dolans, Mamo, and Sao Paulo Pizza out there. The small shop that located in Kakaako is filled with fun memorabilia and is just as inviting with the smells of if fresh baked pizza on sourdough bread. As you enter the glass case is filled with all of the pizza options at your disposal. My favorite's happened to be the pepperoni Playboy and the buffalo chicken, my fiance loves the fungi, as do I. They also do a specialty pizza that changes weekly, and I haven't been disappointed by one yet. The service is quick and friendly and they're always ready to take your order once you enter. The pizzas are reheated in the oven upon order to make sure that you're getting them piping hot. You can also order your own full pies if You're willing to wait. Validated parking is free across the street for 1 hour in the same parking lot as H Mart. Trying another pizza spot on O'ahu. My daughter picked this place and headed to this new to us, pizza shop. An affordable and fresh option near the Kaka'ako Mart. This gem located in a small area with parking in a small garage across the street. You get one hour free. Parking my 4Runner was a tight fit. The cheese was a hit and the whole box was eaten, not a single slice went tk waste or into the fridge. The meat, mushroom combo pizza was a hit for my husband and son. The buffalo pizza was gone as soon as I got home. I'd like the ranch on the side next time though, as delicious and fresh as it is, it was a little over whelming as the topper. Luckily I love my crust dripped in ranch. If they had a chaser dressing it would be over for me, it's better than ranch on crust lol. I thought the tomato, spinach, garlic was mediocre (compared to Boston's pizza) but if it had red sauce as the base this would be delicious. I think I'll try to order that in the further for a whole pie. We were lucky to see the owner in all his glory making pizza. Not sure if he spends a lot of time there but he seems nice. I love novelty stuff. Got the limited Harissa Hut slice that was running for a week. (Their instagram ad got me). Smokey, complex, well-seasoned on top of an absolutely solid pie. There is a lot of crust but it was so crispy yet bouncy and overall delicious. Can't wait to see what the next drop is. Their workers are friendly and have an awesome attitude. Thin crust pizza lovers, this is your sign. I've been back a few times now and everything I've tried has been delicious! So far I've tried most of the menu: Fungo, Spinach Garlic Tomato, Buffalo Chicken Ranch, and Margherita, Supreme, Pepperoni Playboy, plus some desserts, because who can resist? For the indecisive folks, or wanna try everything but don't want to commit to a whole pizza, you can do large individual slices so you can try more of them! The Fungo and Supreme was probably my favorites, but honestly all of the slices had a great sourdough crust and tasted fresh. The Buffalo Chicken Ranch was especially delicious, perfect for when you're craving buffalo wings but in carb form. I also enjoyed the Spinach Garlic Tomato since it was brushed with an addicting garlic confit. The Supreme probably takes #1 with all those extra toppings and house made sausage and The Fungo's béchamel sauce with mushrooms is chef's kiss. The desserts were also worth saving room for. I've been seeing this spot being mentioned on my social media a few times. I saw some videos / photos of lines out of the door which slightly deterred me from visiting for the longest time. However, after my friend mentioned checking it out, I thought why not (at least I'd have company while waiting). Luckily there wasn't much of a wait, we pretty much arrived and was able to immediately place our order. Then we just waited around 15-20 minutes for our pie to be made. They have a smaller sized establishment, its located kind of within the Kakaako apartment complexes. There's around 4-5 tables (seats ~4 ppl per table). They have a few pies ready made and sold by the slice or you can order your own pie. It was pretty bustling inside, very lively environment of people munching on pizza and socializing. We got the supreme, even though the supreme had a BUNCH of toppings listed, generous is NOT the word I'd use for the amount of toppings. This was OUR fault but we did NOT realize that there was black olives on the pizza (we both hate black olives). However, since there were sooo little of each ingredient I honestly could barely taste of olives. Other than the skimpy amount of each topping on the pizza, it was pretty good. The dough and crust was really good, not too doughy but having a nice bite. It is a very flat pizza, like a new York pizza. I'm not 100% sure if I'd come back as nothing particular about it blew me away, but I think if I got the chance I may come back to try some of their individual slices to try a larger variety (and one that DOESN'T have black olives LOL). read more

It's a casual pizza spot and I liked how they display all of their pizza options up front so it can help you decide before ordering. The Fungo was probably my favorite, it had a subtle truffle flavor and was loaded with mushrooms. The Buffalo chicken ranch was also good, but the ranch was a little too tangy for me. It's one of the best pizzas you can get on the island, and their portions are huge! They have both slices and whole pizzas available. Went back as I had been literally dreaming about the pizza since I had it last week. Walked over during my lunch break and got there around 2:30ish or so, so the place was empty. Got a slice of cheese and a slice of their special of the day...but i forget what it was called. Unfortunately the slices don't hold up as well as they should. Now, i wasn't paying full attention but I dont think they grabbed the slices from the display up front as you would expect. Instead there are a bunch of racks of premade pizzas in the back. I suspect that's where they grabbed the slice from to reheat. Slices were reheated well, they were nice, hot and crisp. Sadly, I think the pies had been sitting out too long as even tho they were crispy, they were really hard to chew. My jaw literally hurt after those two slices. Also, the water dispenser by the door for complimentary water....not iced. Luke warm. Just a heads up. Pizza is still good. Just now know to reserve going here for when the family all wants pizza so we can get a whole pie instead of individual slices. read more

Great pizza! The best thing about this pizza is the fabulous crust! I think the crust is perfect. The crunch, the elasticity, the chew, it's really good!!!!! While the crust actually had me thinking about it even after a week or two, I thought the toppings were ok. Yes it tasted good, no doubt but there was a resemblance to Whole Foods for some of the slices I got. They do have one of the best, if not best crust around. I spotted Mad Pie on the new local Save A Bite app & decided after seeing their menu sporting a mushroom pizza, I had to go there to try that specifically. Parking was easy; there's a garage within the area (for the condo residents + for the retail spots below) that has the first hour free for parking. When you enter on Pohukaina St, the system scans your license plate to track entry & exit. If you stay longer than an hour, you can get parking validated by scanning the QR code inside the restaurant. You can also park at SALT as well & walk over. Mad Pie is located in the alleyway behind Down To Earth. I stopped by around 5pm on a Tuesday & it was fairly quiet. I chose to dine in, grabbed some complimentary water available upfront & my slice came out fairly quickly. It was very clean, bright, & gave the classic artsy Kakaako vibe. They have several indoor seating options & shortly after I got my food, it did start to get busier. The Fungo slice was served hot & featured a rich mushroom béchamel, mozzarella, ricotta & mushrooms. The combo created a creamy & savory mushroom pizza that was both flavorful & satisfying. This is a follow-up to my visit last month, where I tried their Supreme WHOLEPIE. Others at my office liked it, and I did as well, though I thought it was a little salty. I wanted to try another kind of pizza this time, where there wouldn't be a compounding of saltiness from three kinds of meat (roni cups, house italian sausage, pancetta). I thought of the Fungo (mushroom bechamel, whole milk mozzarella, fresh mozzarella, ricotta, braised local mushrooms, parsley) but wanted tomato sauce. The Cheese (tomato sauce, whole milk mozzarella, fresh mozzarella) seemed a little too plain so I picked the Margherita (tomato sauce, whole milk mozzarella, fresh mozzarella, fresh basil, EVOO, pecorino romano), thinking it would be a good compromise. I ordered via Uber Eats this time, and when given the options of light or crispy (WELL DONE), I selected crispy. I again ordered four Pistachio Choco Chip Cookies. After I placed the order, I continued to work, first monitoring the preparation then tracking the delivery person. When the food arrived, I let six of my coworkers pick up their slices. Two of them previously tried the Supreme, and the other four were new to Mad Pie. Everyone said they liked the pizza. The two who were able to compare the different kinds of pie preferred the Margherita over the Supreme, sort of saying in different ways that the Supreme was "topping heavy" whereas the Margherita had a cleaner taste, or that they could taste the pizza itself. One person who tried their pizza for the first time liked it because it was simpler, more Italian-like, than many other pizzas available here in Hawaii. My first impression, biting into it, was again that it was a bit salty, but not as much as the Supreme. I'll start by saying the Italian salad was excellent! Generous portion, more than enough to share among the three of us. Nice pieces of mozzarella and sopresseta, the heartiness of mixed greens with the tang of vinaigrette and pepperocini and saltiness of olives, ooh just loved it! The crust was perfect, the way a pizza should be unlike those chains...it was thin and it had a nice fresh crisp and chew to it. I've had pizza in NY so this is comparable just not quite as high on the mmm factor. The workers seem happily busy which is nice to see. Ample seating inside and out. Mannnn we showed up today right at 11 and there was already a line of people waiting to get their slice. This is a very good sign. This place is tucked, hidden behind Down to earth and gives you a sense of Brooklyn without the snob. Beautifully decorated space, great lighting, awesome decor and the customer service from the local lady today at the cash register was second to none. Slices are priced amazingly at 550-7 bucks, drinks galore, a couple cookies, cannoli's for your loved ones and I'm in love. You pick your pie, they warm it up, you eat said pie with chill hip hop in your eardrums. This place seems like a favorite spot for workers in the area and rightfully so. I sincerely hope that this spot stays open for a long while, best pizza I've had in a bit. Not too thick or thin, not too greasy, and had an awesome combination of fresh veggies and good ingredients. I ordered the supreme whole pie. I dined in with my parents. This pizza was pretty good. It was on the oily side. At the time I dined in, supreme was the only pizza available as a whole pizza. They had types, like cheese pizza and pepperoni pizza, available by the slice only. The place is clean and the employees are friendly. Drinks are available only by the can and bottle. I do wish they offered whole pie as an option for the other types of pizzas. I would be back to try the pizzas available. read more

The quickest way to make me run is to offer pizza awards. A few friends and I decided to check out Mad Pie after a lil run in the neighborhood and dare I say, I'd happily run more often if we get Mad Pie afterwards. So many choices to choose from, I decided to try the special slice of the week (lobster) and a slice of their buffalo chicken ranch. They've got some seating inside and 6 of us managed to squeeze into a little corner nook/booth. Our pizzas came out pretty quickly and I'll just say these boys were hefty!! They don't skimp on the toppings and I absolutely love the crust. Of the two, my favorite would have to be the buffalo chicken ranch. My friends and I pretty much ordered different combinations of everything they had to offer and I heard no complaints from anyone. Inside, the place is kind of hipster. There's a self-service station for water and another area for condiments. Service was very efficient and friendly! The guy at the counter had an excellent sense of humor! I got a slice of the Portland Pumpkin pizza because it sounded so different, but yummy! For my 2000th review I'm going to Yelp about Mad Pie. Yes, it's that good. Yes, the hubby and I eat a lot of pizza and this is one of the best on the island. This pizza shop is tiny and located in the same area as Down to Earth in Kakaako. They have four or five tables on the inside with eight counter seats. The restaurant has an open kitchen, so you can watch them make pizzas. It's clean, bright and cozy. We ordered four different slices to try and a cannoli. We got the cheese $5, buffalo chicken ranch $5.50, fungo $6.25 and margherita $5. They had two different types of cannoli to choose from, pistachio or chocolate chip mocha. We went with the chocolate chip mocha $4.50. They were all delicious, but I liked the fungo (mushroom bochamel, whole milk mozzarella, fresh mozzarella, ricotta, local mushrooms, parsley) the best. My hubby liked the cheese (tomato sauce, whole milk mozzarella, fresh mozzarella) the best. It's made with sourdough crust and I could taste the difference. Wow! It's been a while since I've eaten some really good freshly made pizza. I'm not talking about pizza coming out of the Costco or Dominoes oven. But rather that brick and mortar, hand spun sour dough, freshly made sauce and toppings, cooked to absolute perfection pizza . Their selection of unique crafted pizzas makes you want to try every one. Which is exactly what we do every time we order. The restaurant is always clean and comfortable and I enjoy watching them craft the pizzas behind the counter. They usually have a weekly special which is a definite must try. Our slices were then heated in the oven giving the pizza toppings and crust an absolute satisfying slice of deliciousness and enjoyment. All of the pizzas are pre-made and pre-baked. I can see if you are selling slices, but when I order on-line a whole pie I would expect it to be freshly made and freshly baked. Instead I walk in and give my name for pickup I'm told they will call me when it's boxed up. So I observe the kitchen. They proceed to grab a pre-baked pizza sitting on a rack and toss it in the oven to heat it up. Sad.....and $40 for a pizza with so little toppings? I had high hopes for this place. As a big pizza fan in an area where it's hard to find anything amazing, we recently got a new one in Mad Pie and it's worth a visit! The location is nearby Down to Earth in Kaka'ako, easy to walk in for dine in, or plenty of free loading zone parking spots for take out. The interior is big and modern, with the kitchen open to watch everything being made. They have a number of tables and a long bar seating, so any size group is great. At the counter you can see the pizzas made for slices. Their menu is simple with a few core pies or create your own toppings. They have some drinks for purchase. One fun thing is the house made ranch dipping sauces, get a flight of all three for $7. Pizzas may seem expensive, but they're huge and a lot goes into them. The dough is aged, so it has a special flavor. Ingredients are fresh and delicious. We've dined in and gotten takeout, and I'd recommend either. It's super thin pizza but is richly filling. The salads are also lovely, filled with toppings and great produce. It's already a popular spot, so order ahead to reduce your wait time; you can order online. NY style pizza outside of NYC?! Mad Pie is probably the closest NY style pizza you can find in Honolulu. I got a tip on the best time to visit without having a long wait, so Yelp BFF and I strolled Kakaako to test it out. We got 3 slices, 2 margaritas and 1 pepperoni. The crust is crispy, yet chewy. You can fold the pizza and it will hold. There's a thin layer of sauce and cheese, but toppings are piled on. My favorite has to be the pepperoni. It's crispy with a hint of spice. Maybe I missed it, but I wish there was some pepper flakes and dried oregano to sprinkle on top. But you can't get any better at $5 (ish) a slice. Definitely have to be back to try the other pizzas.
