First time and they did NOT disappoint! We ordered a few different pizzas and took advantage of their lunch prefixe that they offered. Prefixe is choice of soup or salad, a selection of various pizzas, and an option to add on a dessert. I ordered the Caesar and Quattro formaggi. They warned me about the spice that comes along with the hot honey and it was very minor and absolutely delicious. The Caesar was huge, definitely shareable, and very refreshing. Two others in our party kept it simple with prefixe pepperoni which they demolished so I'm guessing it was good! My 13 year old son ordered the double pepp and almost ate his entire 12" pizza by himself. (He is not a big eater so this was impressive). We also enjoyed the prosciutto and burrata along with porcini rigatoni as sides which were also delicious. Just a very enjoyable meal. Staff was so pleasant, attentive and knowledgeable. I felt bad since open table allowed me to make a 2:00 res and they normally close at 2. They were still so kind and didn't rush us at all. Absolute best customer service. I visited years ago and had a great meal, so I wonder if ownership or kitchen staff has changed, because the quality has noticeably dropped. Service-wise, our appetizer and pasta arrived in a timely manner. However, our pizza took a long time to come out. We noticed a table seated and ordered after us received their pizza first, which was confusing, though we figured they might have a specific order system in place. As for the food, almost every dish was wildly under-seasoned. I tend to use very little salt myself, but dish after dish was simply bland. We even overheard the table next to us--who ordered completely different menu items--complaining about the exact same issue. Beyond the lack of seasoning: Beets: Far too pungent from an overpowering vinegar taste. Pizza: A typical thin, floppy Neapolitan style, but the crust tasted like burnt ash. Pasta: A total bust with virtually no flavor. We regret not speaking up to management to give them a chance to fix it, but the experience was a letdown. I love Brick Fire Tavern. It is, without a doubt, in my all time top 10 for favorite restaurants on Oahu. I dine out far less frequently these days, and when I do I've become more of a take out, or low key hole in the wall, byob kinda girl. Maybe I got burnt out from my own work in restaurant, but food started to feel fussy and pretentious without purpose. A girl just wants to get fed. But then, there's Brickfire. Smack dab in the center of Kaimuki. Offering pizza that tastes and looks like it came from Italy. It hits the sweet spot of upscale casual, blending refinement and taste, with neighborhood comfort. I admit I may be biased, as I used to work nearby and saw this place come to life from the beginning, often seeing the owner and staff around. The owner, Matt, is passionate about his craft and just an overall great human. Because of this, his staff is also top-notch; every experience I've had there, the service has been just like the ambiance--polished and refined, yet comfortable and welcoming. I can devour a pizza by myself with no problem (no misses, each one a hit), share a bunch of apps, pizzas, and pasta with a group, or simply sit at the bar and drink a glass of wine or a cocktail or two. The bartenders here are also true craftsmen. It's my favorite Italian spot, a top 10 dine-in spot, and the perfect bar for a solo session when you feel like one. We did not have reservations but most people seemed to have reservations. The service was quick and the people working were nice! We ordered pizza and spicy vodka pasta. We don't remember the name of the pizza, but it was very tasty. It felt more on the thin side and was not too saucy, but flavorful. The pasta was also yummy and we didn't think it was overly spicy. In the month of April Brick Fire Tavern was promoting their garlic tide pizza for the Kona low victims. The pizza included shrimp, garlic, and spicy red peppers. We decided to get a supporting pizza as part of our lunch order for the office. The order was ready just at 12 the pick up time I asked for the day before. The pizzas were nice and hot with the salads fresh. I just wish they would toss the Caesar salad in the dressing because it is so thick it's hard to divy up as a group. The arugula fennel salad was nice but I could probably make it at home. I got a cannoli order which includes two. The cannolis were still nice and crunch when I brought them home 4 hours later. The flavor, banana chocolate peanut butter seemed like it would be too much but it actually was very nice. But I'm still holding out for a traditional flavors. read more

We sat at the bar and the bartender was super sweet and truly amazing at her job! I don't drink (allergic) but you can tell she not only loves her job but she is really really good at it! I did try a few sips of my boyfriend's Gondola drink which is their most popular drink, and it was delicious and so smooth! I really love citrus! This place has become a staple pizza joint for me and my friends. The quality of their pizzas has been consistently great, and I enjoy them every time. My favorite is definitely the pepperoni pizza! I usually ask for less cheese due to my lactose intolerance, and they always accommodate me so graciously, which I really appreciate. I visited Brick Fire tavern for the first time today on St. Patrick's day and was so happy with the choice and disappointed in myself for not visiting earlier! We started the night by ordering the Caesar's Salad that I just couldn't seem to get enough of because of the bread crumble and the sensei cherry farm tomato. We also ordered the Prosciutto and Burrata and the Heirloom Tomato that was very unique. I wish there were more slices of bread that was served with the Heirloom Tomato because it was a hit for me with the tomato being the center of the dish complimented by the whipped, creamy chive ricotta. The service was nothing short of spectacular. We were treated with such class and attentiveness that I felt like we were the only people in the room. This is my favorite pizza place on island if I'm looking for some brick oven pizza and a nice cocktail (a very close second would be floralia). I always stick to the traditional Margherita pizza and if I'm feeling hungry, I'll add on the funghi. I haven't had any of the meat topped options since I'm usually dining with a vegetarian but I'm not complaining. The pizzas come out fast and deliciously consistent every time. I'd recommend making a reservation if you know you want to go but I've had excellent luck walking in during the earlier part of dinner time. The space is clean and open so you can see the pizza masters at work and the bartenders crafting their specials of the month. If I were to return, it would be for the pastas. The bolognese was the standout. Perfectly al dente noodles and super saucy with a generous amount of meat. It was yesterday, Saturday, our first time here. We found them right across the street from The Local General Store in Kaimuki. It was a rainy morning, but that didn't deter us. We arrived just before their 11 am opening time. The woman inside opened the doors and showed us to our seats. There were more tables than we had envisioned. We ordered the European lager (Peroni), Orchard Salad, and the Prosciutto e Rucola pizza. The salad was interesting. Along with butter lettuce, it came with pear, gorgonzola, candied pecans, and honey balsamic. I liked the sweetness of the pecans. The pizza arrived as we were finishing our salad. We especially looked forward to trying their wood-fired pizza. The Prosciutto e Rucola came with mozzarella, Prosciutto di Parma, arugula, parmesan, and olive oil, to which I added extra mushrooms and cherry tomatoes. We accepted the server's offer to bring chili oil to the table. The pizza was pretty good, with a nice firm crust along the edges and the toppings over a soft center, covered with arugula. I just enjoyed a great dinner, treated by my daughter and SIL, as a belated birthday get together. I chose Brick Fire over Merriman's because I felt it would be more "family- style" dining, with my granddaughter in tow. The parking can be an issue, since the lot behind the bldg is relatively small (maybe 15 spaces) for the number of restaurants there, but fortunately, we found a metered spot right across the street. Traffic was terrible on Friday night, and we got there about 15 minutes late (we called to let them know). They had a high chair for my GD, which we made sure to reserve over the phone, and were seated right away. Our server greeted us promptly and gave us a highlight on the specials. We ordered some cocktails and then decided to get the Prosciutto and Burrata app, a couple of pizzas and a pasta entrée. The pizzas are 12" in size with a thin crust, but still can fill you up. The dough is made fresh and has a nice "chew" to it. The pasta is also fresh, procured from Onda Pasta, located next door. Everything tasted great, and they also provided me with a comp scoop of their brown sugar vanilla ice cream for my birthday, while we all also shared the Nutella calzone. Brick Fire Tavern has been around for a while but recently moved to a new home in Kaimuki. It's next to its sister business Onda Pasta; they share fresh homemade pizza dough and pasta. If you're dining in, Brick Fire Tavern is a cozy yet modern restaurant with open bar, brick pizza oven open for view, and many sizes and styles of tables from small high tops to large family style. In the back is an older style pizzeria room that takes me back to childhood. We decided to try it for pizza and salad and had a great experience. We came shortly after opening and had no wait getting a table; during meal times reservations are recommended. Our server was very friendly and attentive for the entire evening. All the other staff was welcoming with a smile, you can watch them prepare pies to order. We opted for the margarita but added anchovies and burrata cheese. The pizza itself is small and pricy, but it was so rich and delicious we were full regardless. The cheese made the ultra thing crust a little soggy that probably would have been a both if getting it to go. Honestly, the salad was the highlight - fresh pears, rich cheese, and sweet pecans. I've been wanting to go here for a while just never got around to it for some years. Finally end up going for my birthday with my girlfriend and was underwhelmed. The ambience and service were great. The food wasn't worth the price though. A couple who ordered after us got their food before us. The water was almost room temperature barely cold at all. The couple who got their food before us actually complained to a server stuff they had was chewy, undercooked, and had no flavor. The Golden Beets were lacking flavor and strongly vinegar flavored. Our Porcini Rigatoni came next and wasn't hot at all and felt like it had been sitting for a while. It also had no flavor and the noodles were really chewy too. Finally, the pizza came out we got the New Yorker and same thing, no flavor and felt like it had been sitting for a while. We waited pretty long for our food so I was confused why it wasn't hot. Everything passed the eye test it all LOOKED good. The only good things being the ambience and service wouldn't be enough for me to come back. Especially for the price I couldn't do it, no way. We came on a Wednesday at 12 PM and miraculously found parking in front. We had amazing, attentive service, and the food was exceptional. We all chose the lunch special which came with a pizza and salad or soup. We all chose salad. The pizza is large cut into fours and I didn't think I would finish mine but I did. While Iʻve never been to their sit-down restaurant, Iʻve enjoyed Brick Fire Tavernʻs wares to go. They specialize in upscale pizza Napoletana: Napoli-style, wood-fired, crisp and chewy crust, and truly their pizza is among Hawaiiʻs finest, due to the quality ingredients (e.g. fresh mozarella, arugula, nice Genovese basil) and finesse of preparation. My two personal favorite pizzas: OG Funghi (mushroom) and the Vesuvius Beesting, where hot honey gives spicy zing to the roasted tomato and nduja pizza (caveat: those with low spice tolerance may want to steer clear: the hot honey is as advertised). I also recommend the delicious Big Island beet salad which was tossed with fresh mozzarella, dressed lightly with a balsamic vinaigrette, and garnished with roasted pistachio flecks. read more

We were able to get squeezed into a 7:45 reservation. We were seated in the back in what appeared to be like someone's kitchen. Very warm and homey, just like the hospitality. A plate of freshly baked pizza dough was placed before us to snack on with a balsamic vinaigrette to dip. Wow. Amazing, chewing pizza dough crust. We browsed the menu and we immediately knew what we wanted. New Yorker. Chopped Salad. Pappardelle pasta. The pizza, was love at 1st bite. The sauce hit me first right in the taste buds. A smoothness unlike your typical pizza sauce. Not too overly acidic like there was a nice balance of flavors. Then the ingredients. The cheese, the pepperoni all melded together. I love NY style pizza but this pizza here at BFT takes pizza to another level like it makes me believe I love Italian pizza Period. Then the crust. I could gnaw on this crust all day...and I don't particularly like pizza crust.but this crust. Yes! I used it to wipe the plate of the pasta we devoured. The pasta was nice and al dente. Great texture of the oodles of noodles with the bolo sauce. The creaminess. The balance of flavors. Definitely a comfort food I would choose over and over again. I wished my stomach was bigger so I could order another one. Then the dessert. The pistachio cheesecake caught my attention with the oreo crust. But the cannoli. I recently ate a plate of them in Little Italy from the king but the cherry sauce drizzled and mini chocolate chips took my whole cannoli experience to new heights. The crust. Terrific pizza in Kaimuki! We had a tasty family dinner here last month when we were visiting my brother who lives nearby. He'd never heard of Brick Fire before our visit, but he became an immediate fan after he tasted their pizza. Brick Fire Tavern is the only pizzeria on Oahu with the Vera Pizza Napoletana (VPN) certification, meaning they make True Neopolitan Pizza. If you're not familiar with this type of pizza, they're cooked for just 90 seconds in a wood-burning oven (handmade in Naples!). Napoletana pizzas have a soft center with a chewy crust and are wonderful! Our party of five shared three pizzas between us: the OG Funghi, the Prosciutto e Rucola, and the New Yorker. All three were delicious and we left no crumbs. My favorite of the three was the Prosciutto e Rucola because I just love prosciutto di Parma on a pizza. The Napoletana pizza crust is so good, too, with a great chew. Service was terrific throughout our meal. This spot is on the smaller side and it was packed when we were there. Had high hopes and this place looked promising with the brick oven on display, crowds and always a wait. I love Neapolitan pizza, but I ended up disappointed and would rather have their pasta, which was amazing by the way. The service was very friendly and attentive. The hostess and the server were both very warm. The place was quite spacious so even with the crowd, it didn't feel cramped. There's a room at the back with high tables that could fit another 5-6 parties. About the food, I think the ingredients were great but the execution was not there. Check out my picture. My pizza slice was so soggy that it just draped over like Niagara Falls, and I had to roll it up to eat it. It's kinda gross to eat pizza that didn't taste like pizza, or is this deconstructed pizza a new thing in town? They probably rolled the dough too thin or put too much oil/sauce on there? I don't make pizza so I don't know what exactly went wrong. I deliberately saved my pizza to take home hoping my air fryer would make the bottom crispy again. Couldn't make it work. On top of that, the charred part of the crust was so bitter, tasted like ash. I couldn't eat the whole slice. I got the mushroom but there's barely any garlic flavor. I had to add some minced garlic at home myself when I ate my leftovers. I still have 2 slices in the fridge. I'm debating whether I should even finish it. And you ask me, $30 after tax and tip for this? Hell no. I'm glad I got the pasta as well otherwise my whole meal would just be unpleasant. The pasta was bomb!!! I got the spicy vodka and the pasta was chewy and perfectly al dente. The sauce was delicious with an actual kick to it, unlike a lot of other Italian spots where "spicy" isn't a real thing. I found out their pasta could be purchased next door in a small shop, but too bad they closed when we're done dining. Next time I'll just get the pasta and sauce in the shop and not have to spend $29 on a plate of pasta with only a few pieces of sausage in it. Terrible value. I love Brick Fire Tavern. It's slightly more upscale than your average pizza joint. They prepare handcrafted cocktails that you can get alongside your pizza, and the pizza selections are fresh and flavorful. Unfortunately, it does look like my favorite, Da Shrimp Truck, is no longer on the menu. I know they rotate the menu occasionally. The pizzas they have are Neapolitan-style and the crust is fresh with a bit of chew to it. The toppings are always spread well and not too heavy. It's a perfect size for one person, in my opinion, although you could certainly split with someone else and share an appetizer. The ambience is clean and modern. The inside was small but the place was relatively busy. The tiramisu drink was phenomenal, I had two. I definitely recommend if you like chocolate and coffee and sweet drinks. The whiskey drink at the top of the menu was also delightful. The other drink that was supposed to be more on the fruity side was a pass for both of us. Our waitress was cute and sweet. A younger gal. We began with the squash which was the BOMB. The cheese and crusty flakes gave the perfect mixture of smooth but crispy. It was delicious. The pizzas however were too soft for us. The crust was good and the toppings were fresh and yummy. However, there was hardly any crust under the toppings and the pizza was saggy. You could barely eat it by picking it up. margherita pizza was great. their crust is very thin, has crisp bits and some leoparding while still being pleasantly chewy. I came close to open on a weekday and they were not busy. I'm happy my pie still turned out great even though it was likely one of the first in the oven. I ordered the lunch special, choosing the daily soup and the marg. Soup was romesco, made with a base of blended red bell peppers, and I believe they said stock made from chicken and proscuitto. Soup was good but of course the pizza is the highlight. After tax and 3% kitchen fee, the bill was 30$ before tip. Service was very professional and friendly. The lunch special pizza is 8 in, vs regular menu 12. Considering this is more than a 2X difference in actual pizza, I think the special is overall a worse value. read more

So happy to be able to get a downtown experience right in Kaimuki with parking and no traffic! I called ahead and was told they were booked but that we could walk in to sit at the bar . Luckily they were able to squeeze us in for a perfect pre concert meal. Brick Fire Tavern, not to be confused with Brick Oven Pizza, is located on the same block as Brew'd on Waialae Ave. DRINKS: I started with a Green River Passport cocktail. It was beautiful but I felt like the taste didn't live up to my expectations from the description. My friend got a glass wine. FOOD: The menu offers appetizers, salads and pastas, but they specialize in Neapolitan pizza. Apparently they are the only restaurant in Hawaii certified to make it. Our server with a cool name, Holiday, explained that the owner, Matt, went to Italy to get special training for it and brought back a special brick oven. Apparently there are strict rules that must be followed to make this pizza. Since I wasn't that hungry, I hesitated to get a whole 12" pizza for myself. But since it was their specialty I ordered a Margherita. I needn't have worried as the thin crusted pizza was easy to eat with it's delicious herbaceous San Marzano tomato sauce. Our server warned us that this style pizza is soft in the middle so we knew what to expect. I did like the thinness but I prefer my crust less floppy and a little more stiff. (there's a joke here but I'm not going there. lol) I thought I would have leftovers to take home but failed. My friend got the spicy vodka pasta which was cooked just right and not very spicy.
