David was able to fit me in with a same-day appointment. He was very friendly and open about figuring out what kind of cut I wanted. He did speak really quickly, which made it a bit difficult for me to understand him at times, but there were enough context clues for me to get the idea ;-). He talked about the different Aveda hair products without doing hard-selling. The salon is nicely decorated and clean and plays good music. Very comfortable. The prices are on the higher end for me BUT very competitive considering the quality and environment you get. I'll pay for it when it's worth it. Although I don't love registering online for everything nowadays, the technology is helpful with appointment reminders and payment receipts. read more

Worst root touchup I have ever gotten. It was my first time at this salon. My touchup roots don't even match the middle of my hair.

I went in for a solid color and cut. It was $300 for brown hair and a cut which is just so incredibly expensive. I have had blonde hair and balayage and I know those can be up there in cost but a solid color my jaw was on the floor.. Just was not the price I was expecting for what I received :( read more

I just had a haircut with Marty this morning, and I walked out of there feeling absolutely gorgeous!! I went to the restaurant next door right after, and I already gotten a complement on my hair. I told her I had it done by Marty at Mad Salon. Marty really listens to exactly how I want my haircut, and I really do appreciate the details he pays attention to. I have been David's client for about 10 years right before he opened his salon. I have been extremely satisfied with the service. Location is top notched - plenty of parking! And his work is so meticulous from haircut to touch up! Even though I don't live in Sacramento as I have since moved out of the area due to a new job, I still come back and make my appointment! I just got a haircut with Victoria! She is very nice and very good and understanding what you would like and guiding you in an honest and polite way. She cut my hair exactly how I was hoping for. With layers that would bring out natural waves. My hair only has slight waves to it but I love curls and waves but am against using a curling iron or product. I got balayage done by Marty and overall he did a great job, also my hair smelled really good after I left and was very soft. One star is subtracted due to a weird chunk of hair at the nape of my neck that was just bleached and not a faded balayage. This is only noticeable when I wear my hair up though. read more

We both have naturally curly hair so it can be difficult to find a stylist who's confident and capable with our texture and overall needs. We both got wonderful deep conditioning treatments. You definitely get what you pay for when it comes to self-care services, and David is no exception! He did a lovely job on my cut and color, purchased some Aveda products that I got to pamper myself with during my morning shower, feeling great. He puts a lot of time and focus into his work, I was in his chair literally two hours while he was working his keister off giving me the perfect cut. I have baby find hair that's also thinning a bit, he worked some wonders. The color is lovely, and my hair has so much volume it's crazy. $60 for the cut, $95 for full hair coloring, my next visit it's $75 for root maintenance. Definitely pick yourself up some Aveda products while you are there, you will be thankful that you did. read more

Whatever you do, NEVER buy any product from this store. They sold me a bottle of shampoo that I wanted to return, they said return are not possible. How come Aveda at the Galleria Mall and the Aveda at the Fountains in Roseville give you refunds? this place is a nickle and dime outfit. Review During Covid: MAD is located in the same place as where Strands used to be. It is located in the same shopping center in Natomas as Jack's Urban Eats, 9Round Fitness, Cold Stone Creamery, Sushi Elite, Monsoon Burger, and etc.  There is plenty of parking, but don't park your car underneath a tree unless you want bird poop all over it. The inside of the salon is fairly modern and very clean.  There are hair items and supplies sold inside just like any other salons.   My hair appointment was with Richard and let me just say that he is the guy to book all of your appointments with!  I've had bad experiences at other salons before where I've picked out the color swatches that I wanted for my hair and the stylist basically either wasn't listening or just felt that she knew what I wanted better than I did and colored my hair whichever color she thought would look better on me!  Ahhhh!  This nightmare literally happened a couple of days before my pinning ceremony (graduation.)  The lady fixed my hair, but by that time, my head was on fire and I could tell that my hair was damaged by chemicals.  Anyway, long story short, go to Richard if you want things done right the first time and only time!  Bring pictures of the hair style, cut, and color that you want.  He listens to what you want and actually follows through with it.  If you want color suggestions or tips, ask him and he will give you his honest opinion.  I am telling you, he will make you look bomb after your session!  This last time, I asked him what color would look good with my natural hair color and skin tone and he suggested a mahogany color.  At first I was a little hesitant, but thought, screw it, let's do it!  I am so glad I listened to him because he freakin' worked magic on my hair.  He is very good at reading your face and your responses throughout the whole process.  Richard will also check in with you to see if you are loving what you see.  He also took the initiative and asked me how I normally style my hair and I told him that I usually straighten my hair.  He gave me a style, cut, and color that would look amazing straightened or curled.  I can tell he is a perfectionist and that is a good thing when it comes to having someone do your hair because you know that you will always get their best work every single time.   As far as the pricing goes, obviously it depends on what you want to have done with your hair, but I would say that the price is pretty average compared to other salons.  It wasn't cheap and it wasn't so expensive that it was not affordable.  Just remember, you do get what you pay for though. Don't make my previous mistake!  This salon also only uses Aveda products.  Everything has a natural herbal scent to it. Tell Richard that your friend Mon from Yelp sent you!  You're welcome! P.S. Sometimes they do temperature checks and make you signs a waiver when you check-in. However, all staff always have masks on the entire time. read more

First time I came in my hair was long and straight down my back. I didn't know exactly what I wanted but knew I wanted shape and to have a style but I asked to keep my length. It was my fault for not specifying enough but I ended up walking out with a bob cut. Not super happy, but it was fine. A year and a half later my hair has finally grown out and I'm back in the situation of long and straight and needing a cut to add some style. This time I was specific and said I want to keep the LENGTH. My ends were not damaged I asked for a trim. I asked for LONG layers and a LONG curtain bang, a very popular, seemingly easy haircut. I ended up with a very extreme wolf cut, or shag cut. I was so horrified when I saw my cut but at this point it was too late. I ended up driving home from this hair cut crying and now I don't want to look in the mirror or take any photos I feel so ugly. I can't do anything with this style. My shortest layer is above chin length. I tried cutting my own bangs to try to even it out, but it's just the worst hair cut I have ever gotten and the worst I have ever felt. Worst experience ever I came in the other day just to get my roots blonde and my hair was already blonde a simple job turned into a nightmare she charged me $180 to do the job and it came out terrible my hair was looking like carrot top orange did not want to leave the house for a whole entire day because of it. The stylists are decent but way overpriced. For a color touch up, trim, and style with one strip of color...I walked out paying almost $300. The other salon I usually go to does the same for under $200. And they didn't clean up my bangs and left color on my face. They are nice but not worth that pricetag. read more

I couldn't be more happy with this salon. I was excited to see that they're an Aveda salon. Which means they use the best natural products. I also noticed that everyone was following proper covid protocol, and had masks on, so I decided to give them a try. I booked a balayage with Marty and a cut with David. I'm very picky when it comes to my hair, and they did an AMAZING job. Marty took the time to make sure the color was perfect, and that I was happy with it. After my color, David also took the time to make sure I was happy with my cut and styled it beautifully. I booked another appointment through Thomas at the front desk, who was so kind and helpful. I've been here a total of 4 times (twice with different stylists). The last two times (this July and October) were with David. In August, David cut my hair the exact length I wanted however did not wash all of the shampoo/conditioner out. I left with oily hair. This time around, I went in to go shorter and gave permission to wet my hair not wash it (I didn't want to risk him not washing all of it out). I have a lot of hair so it's not something that you can rinse for minute and think it's good to go. I specifically said I wanted my hair to touch the top of my shoulders and the same length all around, no layers. He only cut the front part of my head the length I wanted, leaving the rest to be shorter than the front. His excuse was "bc I have ears and it fluffs up". After he blowdryed my hair he asked if I wanted him to cut the front to match the rest of the hair and this is where I could really tell that he cut the rest shorter than what I wanted. I was highly annoyed especially when I pointed it out that he cut it shorter, his response was "can you let me finish my job!" I'm highly disappointed and with his lack of professionalism, I see why they run through hairdressers. read more

I went in before Thanksgiving because the stylist said she could take me from dark brown to blonde without major damage. She dropped dye in my eye and dripped solution on my shirt that damaged it. She was able to get the color I wanted but I discovered when I got home major chunks of my hair were missing. There's no way she didn't notice and she didn't tell me during the appointment. She styled my hair back before I left the salon so I wouldn't know at the time. She also rushed me towards the end and didn't offer to trim me because she had another client after me. I knew there was a risk of some damage but I really feel tricked and stupid for paying that much money just to have to chop all my hair off right after that appointment. Fist of all I rarely write reviews but honestly I was so disappointed that I had to write something. this was my first and only visit to this salon. I went to MAD salon today and D. was late to my appointment and honestly I felt like he really didn't want to do my hair. I told him what I wanted explained to him about my hair being curly so cutting it can be difficult, that I wanted layers and textured and claim to do all if that but I didn't see any of it. He then proceeded to blow it dry like an old lady would wear it. He didn't ask if it was ok or if he needed to do anything else so I got out of there as fast as I could!!!
