    Chocholate ganache And vanilla roll
    Sharon H.

We were craving dessert after eating at state of mind , and the spot was next door They have lunch items but also cakes and gelato . I tried a sample of the Oreo gelato and it was way too creamy, like had more of a mousse texture. My friend and I got two desserts that looks beautiful in the case but wow, I have not had cake that dry at a store ever !!! It tasted like if I had birthday cake and kept it in my fridge for 2 weeks. The inside is cute , with lavender colored decor. The lady also seemed eager for us to leave.

Picked up some breakfast on Sunday morning. The bagel with egg was very good. Also got a croissant with egg and avocado, not pictured because I ate it so fast! The caramel macchiato was way too sweet and the caramel tasted weird, next time I would get a regular oat milk latte. There's a big menu and it's in a good location.

Came here for brunch on a Saturday and honestly it was a nice surprise. From the outside it looks like just a dessert/bakery spot but they actually have espresso drinks + a full food menu too which I didn't expect. We sat outside on the patio (lots of outdoor seating, not much indoor space) and it was a super sunny chill vibe. Parking was easy too which is always a win. Service was really friendly and quick. We ordered the BLT sandwich, chicken sandwich, and the cream cheese + bacon bagel. Everything was good, nothing super mind blowing but solid and hit the spot. Portions are a bit on the smaller side and prices are definitely on the higher side for what you get. My latte was actually really good though. Overall I'd probably come back mostly because it's close by and convenient for a quick brunch / coffee stop, not necessarily a destination spot for me. Next time I'd try more of their bakery items since those looked better than expected from just walking in.

Cute little bakery. 1st time there. Crossiants, cupcakes, cakes, cookies, coffee and ice cream! Cute already boxed cookies and treats to go! The wait staff came to check on is a few times while we had breakfast which was nice. I did like the Mediterranean egg with feta, tomatoes and spinach crossiant but next time I would get something different cuz the dizzle (think balsamic vinegar) was the same taste as the salad

I was waiting for someone and I had about an hour to spend so I stopped here for a coffee. After coming here Hot Cocoa looked good so I ordered one and that was definitely a good decision. Person behind the counter was really helpful, I also had a cookie which was too good! (I wish I had more). Cute and clean decor. I might come back here whenever in the area.

Stopped here for a quick lunch with the family. So many options for cakes and sweet treats. The vanilla roll cake was perfect, not too sweet and super moist. Pesto pasta salad was delicious. Tons of fresh veggies and basil. My husband loved the chicken sandwich which came with a very generous green salad. Would definitely come back! Be prepared for a little wait as the breakfast and lunch items are prepared fresh to order.

Cute lil hidden gem! Ambience inside definitely lives to its name with an all purple interior. I ordered a perfect little breakfast here - an iced latte and a breakfast croissant (swapped out blue cheese for cheddar) and was pleasantly surprised that it came with a mixed green salad! Quick service and will def be back.

The pastries are freshly baked daily and absolutely delightful. I tried their croissants (buttery and flaky), a moist vanilla roll cake that was perfectly balanced, not overly sweet, and some delicious gelato. The Oreo flavor was creamy and rich, and everything has that homemade touch. They also offer beautiful custom cakes, macarons, housemade chocolates, cupcakes, and cookies perfect for events or just treating yourself.

If you're craving a decadent desert, this is the place for you! They have an amazing selection of delicious pastries and chocolate treats. It's a little pricey but worth it if you want to treat yourself.

Bacon, Egg, Avo & Bleu Cheese Croissant Breakfast Sandwich w/ side salad
    Andrew F.

Hadn't been here for a while, but we were out of coffee at home and I don't give the chain coffee joints my money so I stopped by Lavender & Cream last week on the way to work. Always greeted with a smile, the owner emerged from the back and took my order... a medium coffee with cream and sugar, and I opted for the Egg, Bacon, Bleu Cheese, Avo sandwich on a fresh croissant. Little did I know it also came with a small side salad. A nice surprise. It was prepared quickly and I was on my way. I was in a bit of a hurry, so I ate in the car. First bite of the sandwich was savory perfection. Supremely fresh, buttery flakey croissant with perfectly cooked bacon and slightly runny egg. The bleu cheese and the salty bacon were a perfect combo. I devoured it and wished I had bought two! I'll be back again soon!

    Vanilla cupcake to go with
    Mary F.

I've been here twice, once last year and once today. Unfortunately, it's been pretty disappointing both times. Both times, I've ordered a cupcake (I wanted to give them another shot today), and today I also picked up some dog treats for my mom's dog. I can't speak to how the dog treats are, but both times the cupcake has been basically grocery-store bakery quality. The cupcake is airy and fluffy, and while they give a substantial amount of icing, it is refrigerated (and super solid), making it difficult to eat. I was able to slide the entire solid block of icing off with my finger and broke pieces of it off to eat with the cupcake itself. The staff members are always friendly, so I gave them two stars for that, but I don't think I'll be back.

Ask the Community - Lavender 'n Cream

Is the frosting buttercream or whipped on the cakes and cupcakes?

Hi! For our cakes, we can do both types of cream (and others such as custard). As for the cupcakes, those are made with buttercream!

    Any gluten free items?

Yes, but you have to pre-order.

I came to the Redwood City location on Monday at 7:12pm to discover the store was unexpectedly closed for an hour. There was no one inside the store. I didn't want to wait an hour so I left. I came back to the Redwood City location yesterday and was relieved to find that it was open. I ordered a brownie sundae with mango chamoy ice cream. The first thing the employee told me when I asked for a sample was "you're limited to 2 samples". Okay great, I wasn't planning on asking for an excessive amount of samples, but thanks for welcoming me to your store that way. Now it's time to pay and I show her my virtual gift card on my phone and she tells me there is "no scanner" so she can't accept it. Doesn't even try to mitigate the issue. She actually didn't even say sorry. I think I'm done coming here and I will be avoiding all locations in the future. The only good part of my experience was that this time the brownie wasn't so hard that I pierced through the paper bowl trying to break it up. They also advertised their matcha cookies and cream flavor on a board outside of the store and when I asked the employee if they had it she said no. I was looking forward to that flavor and it was also sold out when I went to the Campbell location too.

Unfortunately, this visit felt like a restaurant that's lost some of its spark. Happy hour was actually a pleasant surprise. The prices are excellent and make it easy to sample a variety of dishes. The Polpette and prosciutto with melon were enjoyable, but the croquettes were forgettable. The mussels and shrimp didn't taste particularly fresh, which was disappointing. The chicken had an unusual texture--somewhere between a chicken nugget and a crab cake. It just wasn't for me, The biggest letdown was the Bigoli e Coda. The pasta still had its signature chewy texture, but the sauce felt oily instead of rich, the braised oxtail lacked the deep, slow-cooked flavor I remembered, and the entire dish desperately needed seasoning. It used to be one of those dishes I'd recommend without hesitation. Not anymore. The seafood entrée was probably the strongest dish of the night, but even there it fell short. The fish was properly cooked, yet the skin lacked the crisp, golden finish that makes a skin-on fillet so satisfying. It was another dish that felt underseasoned and never quite came to life. That was really the theme of the evening: almost everything felt underseasoned. Nothing was inedible--it just lacked the vibrant flavors and careful execution that made Donato stand out years ago. I'm hoping this was simply an off night because Donato has earned a lot of goodwill over the years. But when a longtime favorite no longer tastes like the restaurant you remember, it's hard not to leave a little disappointed.

My family and I stopped by Marvel Cake during Mother's Day for a sweet treat on Sunday. This location is in the strip of Downtown Palo Alto and has limited parking (similar to the rest of the stores there, there is a lot of parking, and you will need to get lucky). My mom does like the Marvel Cake in their first location, so we swung by here to try this one out! Location-wise, this is a smaller shop than the original one in West San Jose with limited seating inside. I would say it's not work from home friendly however, I did see a college student next to me on her laptop so maybe I am incorrect here! The interior is nice and light, matching the elegance of the desserts. We ordered three items on the menu: the pillow cake, the bisou, and the blueberry lavender roll. Here are some thoughts: * Pillowcase cake: It may seem like this would be a fluffy cake due to the nature of its shape, but it is a gelatinous Jell-O cake with fruit jam. It was not bad, and tasted refreshing and light. I didn't know if I liked it at first, but ultimately I did come back for seconds and thirds, so this is approved. * Blueberry lavender roll cake: This was not at all what we were expecting. I did not taste any lavender, nor did it have a strong blueberry flavor. I think what threw our party off was the layer of gelatin that surrounded the cake. Texturally, we were not a big fan. * Bisou: This one was our favorite one. I appreciated the nutty crust in the bottom layer of the cake, while the filling was soft and bouncy. It is very sweet, however, but overall, I really enjoyed this one and feel like it would go great with a cup of coffee. What made the experience here a 3 instead of a 4 or 5 was the service we got. We weren't greeted when we came in, which, to be fair, is totally fine, maybe they were busy. However, the person helping us stared at us the whole time and did not really communicate well with us. When I tried to order the cakes for my family, they looked bothered that we were there, and I was not sure if they understood what pastries I was ordering because they did not repeat it back to us at all or confirm anything. When I did place the order, they slowly grabbed the plates and looked visually confused, which again, if they wanted to, I could have repeated it back to them. After they gathered everything, they put it in front of us and rang me up. The whole time, they did not say a word to me at all. Did not reconfirm anything, did not acknowledge we were there, did not say thank you. It was a bit strange, and I had to check with my family if it was me or if that was a really weird experience (it wasn't me).
