Carrot cake
Hieu L.

If you're looking for a high-quality bakery for special occasions or a slice, I would recommend this place. There really aren't that many locations of this around the Bay Area which I wish they would have one in the South Bay eventually. My tride and true is always the carrot cake with cream cheese frosting. They manually slice it for you so I would say it depends on the person depends on how big or small your slice is. If you want a custom order, I would definitely recommend to call in with a couple weeks notice. Inside is very bright and open and the service is always very friendly here. If you don't want high commitment, they also have individual cupcakes.

Strawberry ($4.99) and lemon poppyseed ($5.49) cupcakes

Seven minutes before closing, I called to ask if they had any more whole key lime pies. My lucky day, they did! I made it just in time (the pedestrian closures had me thrown for a loop). The gentleman I spoke to over the phone had it out and ready for me. I also picked up a strawberry and lemon poppyseed cupcake. Wow, their baked goods are incredible! The crust on the key lime pie was so so crispy crunchy and the key lime filling was light and tart. So glad I got a whole pie versus just a slice! I tried a nibble of the lemon poppyseed and it was moist, flavorful and not too sweet. I'm hooked!

Celebration Cake 9 Inch - Celebration Cake

SusieCakes is my go to bakery for celebration cakes hands down. Their famous vanilla celebration cake (think funfetti) is a dense and moist cake with a thick frosting that I really enjoy, but this may not suit those who prefer fluffy or extra light buttercream. I really appreciate the staff at this location who are always nice at the register and know what to recommend. There are also other flavors unique to Susie like lemon, marble and old-fashioned chocolate that I've tried, and while I enjoyed them, my Asian parents would call it "too sweet." This particular location in Menlo has some seating indoors their very spacious interior, and so you can grab a slice of cake to sit and enjoy even if you don't order an entire cake.

Happy Birthday Cupcake 4 Box

We ordered Susie cakes for my mother in laws birthday delivery. They had the cutest most delicious set of four birthday cupcakes. They were on time and fresh. What a great way to get something days in advance for peace of mind and make their actual birthday memorable.

If it weren't a bit of a drive, I'd probably be here waaay too often. The staff at SusieCakes was so friendly and welcoming -- like, as soon as I walked in the door, they were all smiles. Love that kind of energy! We got the cupcake bundle (yes, I picked it because it looked cute AND because... cupcakes), and omg the Vanilla Pink one?? Just as tasty as it looks -- a little fruity, super light, and totally a vibe. The red velvet was absolutely scrumptious!! Like, I get why it's a classic. I was team pink + red velvet all the way, my husband devoured the red velvet, and the kids were all about the peanut butter ones (choco sprinkles ftw). Parking Plenty of nearby street parking or nearby parking spaces near Longs and Trader Joes Ambience The space inside is cute and bright, perfect for sitting and enjoying a little sugar fix -- though heads up, they do close kinda early (like 7-ish). So don't roll in late thinking you'll sneak in a dessert run. Totally worth it. Will be back... probably with no self-control.

The manager of this location reached out to rectify the situation. I really appreciate the customer service. 5 stars for caring about your customers!

They have so much variety here I absolutely love this place! My favorite are the red velvet cupcakes but I've also had a lot of good other ones as well. I got a mocha cupcake and one that tastes a bit lemony also yummy and the chocolate cupcakes are perfect with milk. I can't wait to eat the cupcakes with a glass of milk!

Renee L.

I was here when they had their buy 1 cupcake get 1 free deal. I got the mocha, red velvet, lemonade, and vanilla. The cakes were a bit dry for my liking. I really liked the cream cheese frosting as it had a strong cream cheese flavor. I gave the mocha away to a friend and they liked it. Overall, it wasn't the best cupcake I have had but still a good place nonetheless. The service was great as the workers were very attentive and friendly to customers as they were walking in. The place was nicely decorated and clean.

Decor is cute but sleek, vibes are calm, bar seating by window and a few small tables with seats. Ordering is fast at the kiosk front desk which doesn't seem to have a cashier. Lots of tasty drink options with milk choices and customizable sweetness and ice level - much appreciated! Cakes were delicious and filled with freshly whipped cream. We had the hojicha and biscoff ones. Not incredibly busy - a lot of orders were takeout. Cons: A lot of things were out of stock by 1pm but maybe this is due to Mother's Day. Pricey but the items were high quality. Store is a small footprint with limited utilities (no WiFi, bathroom was temporarily out of order). Parking is very difficult- it's on el Camino so the cars are unforgiving if you're trying to parallel park, and the road parallel by a block is not much better. It has an alley and a very cramped space in the back for a lot. Expect to walk.

Perhaps a bit on the fancier side, but it's a pleasant place to go for some coffee and a dessert. All of the desserts are beautiful and imaginative spins on classics with a middle eastern twist. Baklava Cheesecake: Such a pretty little packet. This is a bit contradictory, but the cream cheese filling is a little too sweet and dense and the outside should be a little more sweet, perhaps with syrup like on a traditional baklava. I missed that stickiness and moisture on the flaky exterior. But overall, it was fun to eat. Sweet Cheese Rolls: These were pretty good and quite creamy inside. Halawet el jibn is traditionally served with pistachio and rose syrup. These are hard to come by in the Bay and kind of expensive here, but tasty.

This location is in the strip of Downtown Palo Alto and has limited parking (similar to the rest of the stores there, there is a lot of parking, and you will need to get lucky). My mom does like the Marvel Cake in their first location, so we swung by here to try this one out! Location-wise, this is a smaller shop than the original one in West San Jose with limited seating inside. I would say it's not work from home friendly however, I did see a college student next to me on her laptop so maybe I am incorrect here! The interior is nice and light, matching the elegance of the desserts. We ordered three items on the menu: the pillow cake, the bisou, and the blueberry lavender roll. Here are some thoughts: * Pillowcase cake: It may seem like this would be a fluffy cake due to the nature of its shape, but it is a gelatinous Jell-O cake with fruit jam. It was not bad, and tasted refreshing and light. I didn't know if I liked it at first, but ultimately I did come back for seconds and thirds, so this is approved. * Blueberry lavender roll cake: This was not at all what we were expecting. I did not taste any lavender, nor did it have a strong blueberry flavor. I think what threw our party off was the layer of gelatin that surrounded the cake. Texturally, we were not a big fan. * Bisou: This one was our favorite one. I appreciated the nutty crust in the bottom layer of the cake, while the filling was soft and bouncy. It is very sweet, however, but overall, I really enjoyed this one and feel like it would go great with a cup of coffee. What made the experience here a 3 instead of a 4 or 5 was the service we got. We weren't greeted when we came in, which, to be fair, is totally fine, maybe they were busy. However, the person helping us stared at us the whole time and did not really communicate well with us. When I tried to order the cakes for my family, they looked bothered that we were there, and I was not sure if they understood what pastries I was ordering because they did not repeat it back to us at all or confirm anything. When I did place the order, they slowly grabbed the plates and looked visually confused, which again, if they wanted to, I could have repeated it back to them. After they gathered everything, they put it in front of us and rang me up. The whole time, they did not say a word to me at all. Did not reconfirm anything, did not acknowledge we were there, did not say thank you. It was a bit strange, and I had to check with my family if it was me or if that was a really weird experience (it wasn't me).

HEALTH CODE VIOLATIONS!!!…read more I am writing this review to both warn other customers and so that management sees this. I was at the MP location earlier this week and saw not one but TWO health code violations committed by employees. First, one of the ladies was drinking out of an open cup at the front where the food and beverages are prepared. This is against the health code! 113977. (a) Except as specified in subdivision (b), an employee shall eat or drink only in designated areas where contamination of nonprepackaged food; clean equipment, utensils, and linens; unwrapped single-use articles; or other items needing protection cannot result. (b) A food employee may drink from a closed beverage container if the container is handled to prevent contamination of the employee's hands, the container, nonprepackaged food, and food-contact surfaces. The employee (brown hair in a ponytail, wearing grey Adidas) was frequently drinking a pink drink from a clear open cup behind the counter where the pastries are! Also, I saw the male employee behind the counter sneeze and use his bare hand to cover his sneeze. He rubbed his nose and sniffed. I was watching him from my table to make sure that he washed his hands. He went over to the sink behind the cash register and I kid you not, he turned on the water and for literally ONE SECOND put his hands under it. He then wiped his hands together to dry them. HE DID NOT USE SOAP TO WASH HIS HANDS AFTER SNEEZING INTO THEM!!!! Article 4. Handwashing 113953.3. We have addressed this with our staff and we will take your comments into consideration." Please actually DO SOMETHING and ensure that all of your staff follow proper health code laws! The hostess did, and we were pleased to see more options on their summer menu since the first time we tried RH Rooftop Restaurant previously was in the winter. My mom ordered the Peach Bellini, I ordered the Pomme Royal (non-alcoholic). In my opinion this menu does have a little something for everyone, even if you're looking for something more casual or budget-friendly. They have a gorgeous selection of salads - super hydrated and happy vegetables, beautiful presentation, very refreshing - plus familiar favorites like burgers and sandwiches - all the way to your lobster and overpriced oysters. We ended up sharing the Steak Frites (medium rare), the Lobster Roll (added caviar), as well as the Blue Fin Toro Carpaccio. The steak frites really impressed me and I could see why people all around us were ordering french fries alone - they're top tier and you can tell they're fresh cut potatoes vs. frozen. Steak was perfectly seasoned and the lump crab on top was also fresh, vs. canned. I wish there was more. Lobster roll was divine, although on the smaller side, and next time we probably won't add the caviar. The caviar alone added an extra $40 to a $36 sandwich so... yeah. The carpaccio is mouthwateringly thin and served with a lighter dusting of caviar - we wanted to order another one and flagged our server down for a second order, but it never came. Like other reviewers have mentioned, service can be slow and disjointed. We were served by 3-4 different faces and although I didn't mind that, I could see how things were lost in translation. Our cloth napkins also smelled gross (when you leave them in the washer too long) which was a huge turn-off so we asked for paper napkins to wipe our mouths. Other than that, it's a real treat to watch the sunset from the outdoor patio if you're around in time with the fireplaces turned on.

Upstairs, the restaurant sits beneath a soaring glass-and-steel atrium, surrounded by olive trees and centered around a fountain. It looks like something between a greenhouse and a designer showroom. They also have an outside area for drinks and snacks. The restaurant was packed and too loud, though, and the tables were too close together. Considering how expansive the gallery is, I wonder why a little more of that space was not given to the restaurant. Another major downside is that they do not accept walk-ins, so you need a reservation. I would choose dinner over lunch. In daylight, the sun pouring through the glass can be too much, with little protection. At night, the lights, trees, and fountain create a much more enchanting and beautiful atmosphere.
