For years I have gone to a salon in Westlake and always felt like I was kind of the one that didn't fit in. These were all rich women (including my stylist) who talked about their Westlake lives and never really acknowledged me when I walked in - or included me in conversations. While it wasn't a dealbreaker, I always felt like I wasn't someone they cared about as a client. Today, I went to Madera's Beauty Salon and was stunned at how differently I was treated by Rachel and her son, Pete. I felt like part of their family. I went in for a Brazilian Blowout (with Pete) and from the moment I arrived until the moment I left, I was just part of the group. The conversation was funny, lively, educational, and just plain interesting. I loved every second of it. I think I'll try them out for a cut and color next because if they are as talented as they were with the Brazilian, I have found a new place - one that makes me feel valued and one that does impeccable work! I can't rave enough about Rachel's talent. I've been going to salons for over twenty years, and have had 8 stylists work on my hair. After my first visit with her, Rachel's skills quickly soared her to the top of the list. She's the most consistent stylist I've ever seen, and she makes her diligent work look easy. I get a blonde weave, and she painstakingly finds the strands she bleached last time and re-touches them - something no other stylist will do, let me tell you. This way, I will never get "too blonde", which is the main risk of getting weaves all the time. Also, I told her the number of my ash-blonde toner (from a previous stylist) and she uses it every time - but something in the way she does it makes it last an extremely long time. I always thought my hair was doomed to turn brassy, but now it remains perfectly ashy for 6 weeks. I only have to use purple shampoo a couple of times on weeks 7-8 before I return for a touchup. Rachel will give you exactly what you ask for, and she will never argue with you. I've had stylists who have plum refused to give me what I wanted; one even said, "I don't think that's your journey." If you bring in a photo, Rachel will match it and have you leaving her salon looking beautiful and feeling confident. I'm so glad that my previous stylist went on a permanent maternity leave, so I could continue my "journey" and find Rachel. My hair has found a home. This is completely un-related, but she does have an entertainment center built into her salon. At the front, there's a large television with movies streaming all day long, so you won't be ever bored. (And if you're lucky, you might even get to request one. Rachel and I once sang along to a fun Beach Boys documentary.) read more

I came in for a wash and blow dry. It was the worst experience of my life. The girl that started with me did not know what she was doing the owner took over and she was OK but it took an hour and 30 minutes to wash and blow dry my hair. I would not recommend this place. I live in Simi Valley near the Ronald Reagan Library. I shop at Albertson's on Madera. I saw the new shop and a friend said she got her haircut there and colored and was very happy. I was going all the way to Woodland Hills to get my haircut. So the last time I got my haircut in Woodland Hills; I stopped by on the way home and showed Rachel my style. She said no problem I can do that the next time you need a haircut. I called this morning and she said to come in at 2:30PM. I was a little late but she still cut my hair. Amazing!
