I must say, Jared, the stylist was excellent and James at the front desk was able to accommodate me on such short notice and was very helpful during my appointment. As this particular salon is considered to be a 5 star hairdressing salon, I must admit I was a bit taken aback. The outside is charming, a small stand alone building, but the inside didn't measure up to the hype. Its décor is outdated and shabby, and there were bugs about the place. Also, the customer loo was not in service. I asked to speak to the manager but he was nowhere to be found. Considering the cost of service at this salon, they really should pay more attention to the upkeep of their establishment. It was quite a disappointment.

There is another 3rd stylist I had actually tried at Kim Vo salon before she came to Bomane. For all three I can say their highlight range is pretty much limited to very low lift, California blonde, money-piece highlights, and they seem incapable of doing anything otherwise, even if you specify you want something else. For example, I asked for traditional all over highlights, with no money piece, and sure enough thats what I got each time. My reason for the review is my experience with Evelyn Iliana Rubio specifically. I asked for all over champagne highlights and a base bump. She rushed through highlights, and only lifted until it was yellow (like YELLOW YELLOW) even though my hair health allowed for more lift and she didn't tone it for some reason--something I have never seen in the 20 years I've been getting highlights (and being a very light blonde btw). I went in the next day to have it fixed and I ended up with an orange base bump and still yellow hair since she decided to slap on some toner (what she should've done is lift it more). My 10 year old niece complimented me once my black roots grew out: "WOW! I love your hair! Its black, then orange, then yellow, then blonde!" (The blonde was from a different salon btw lol) And last note, I found a new stylist who gave me the color I want and have traditionally always had, but she said I'd still have to have some of the orange hair still be incorporated in my highlights unfortunately. I wouldn't recommend them unless you're a blonde and want a minor lift.

The next morning, I received a text asking if I could come in much earlier due to a scheduling change. As a hairstylist myself, I knew exactly what was happening. Someone had canceled, and they were trying to fill a gap in the stylist's schedule. No problem. I rearranged my own day, moved a call, and made it work. What I don't understand is why I was then left waiting for about 20 minutes after I arrived. If you're asking clients to change their schedules to accommodate yours, shouldn't their time be respected too? That immediately put a bad taste in my mouth, especially after learning the reason for the schedule change was a cancellation. I went out of my way to help avoid a gap in the stylist's day, only to end up sitting there waiting anyway. The salon itself is beautiful, and the owner was very nice. However, during the shampoo service, the towels smelled strongly of mildew. Every time one was used, that's all I could smell. As for the haircut, it was fine. Not terrible. Not amazing. Just very mid. For a salon charging well over $200 for a haircut, I expected something that felt a little more special. The weirdest part was checkout. When I went to pay, they told me they weren't charging me because it was "just a trim." I still left a $100 tip, but honestly, it felt less like a complimentary service and more like they knew the experience hadn't gone particularly well. I was also given a candle, which was a nice gesture, but it didn't really change the overall experience. At the end of the day, if you're charging luxury prices, people expect a luxury experience. Between being asked to rearrange my schedule, waiting 20 minutes after doing so, the mildew smelling towels, and a haircut that was ultimately just okay, I don't think the experience matched the price point. Manage your expectations and be prepared to wait, even if the salon asks you to change your appointment time to accommodate them.

Balayage highlights and a couple inches cut off was the game plan! Crystal is so down to earth and it was really fun chatting with her while she did my hair. She also explained to me how the salon is part of Green Circle Salons, meaning the salon recycles & repurposes everything from hair, foils, colour-tubes, papers and plastics, glass, spa waste AND diverts excess hair chemicals from being rinsed down the drain. Not to mention the plants inside the salon serve a purpose aside from looking pretty- they cleanse the air of hair chemical impurities like ammonia!
