My boyfriend and I usually hit the same couple of places in Lebanon as there is not much to chose from around here. We originally decided to eat at one of our regular spots but we couldn't find a seat, they were busy. Thank goodness we googled restaurants near us and found Mae Ploy! Our initial impression was, "Wow! The decor in here is great!". We loved the creative decorations and the skids on the ceiling. We are bar people and always sit at the bar. We were greeted by Jeff who us served us before at a different restaurant and he is amazing! He made WONDERFUL recommendations (both food and drink) and kept a very lively conversation. One thing we noticed after receiving our beautiful craft cocktails and our sushi appetizer is that the staff takes great pride in their skills. Presentation was ON POINT! We started with the sangria and let me tell you.. it was the BEST I've ever had. Our sushi appetizer was delicious and the fish was high quality. For entrees he ordered the "Drunken Man" (we got a kick out of this) and the Penang Curry but with duck [its not on the menu but I highly recommend!]. Both were phenomenal! The portion sizes were ridiculous! I've ordered duck entrees at other Thai places and the duck is very slim. This dish was loaded and well worth the price! We SO wanted to try the deserts recommended by Jeff but we were so stuffed. We were given a sample of the bubble tea (I've never tried it before) and it was so good! Exceptional experience. A group of us were working in Middletown, and ventured over here for dinner, & were not disappointed. On the main street in a beautiful town. I was very hopeful when this came to downtown Lebanon. If you like spice this may not be your place. I'm normally a 3 (medium hot) out of 5 but had to get 5 here on everything...primarily for flavor. My boyfriend and I were there yesterday for lunch. I've heard of all the raves about this place for awhile now. Me knowing the Thai cuisine and him never having it I thought it would be an awesome treat. We were seated by the waitress, gave her our drink order which was water and a soda. We finally got that and waited over 10 min. This is lunch time people have a limited time to eat. My boyfriend had to wave our waitress down to order. He decided in shrimp pad thai medium spice and I had drunken man's noodles shrimp medium spice. Had the salad since it was lunch it was ok. Then out came our food later. I began to eat my food,it wasn't even spicy but there was something that just didn't taste right at all. I asked for some chili oil to mask the weird gross flavor. The shrimp were big but still gray after cooking which I thought was extremely weird. My bf looked up at me and said this shrimp is so fishy and NOT fresh. He literally had 2 bites and was not feeling well. I said you know what this tastes absolutely awful, I'm glad you brought that up. I had a couple bites as well and was so sick to my stomach. The fishy smell and taste ruined my whole lunch and his. We got to go boxes and didn't even take them. 30$ for the worst thai food I've ever had and I'm not sure my bf will ever eat it or try it again after this experience. He went back to his office and I had to get to Mason to work. He calls me saying he was so sick to his stomach! I literally had to pull off the road. I had the same issue but completely disgusting watery crap,no pun intended. I don't think I will ever view thai food the same again. We both were sick up till late evening. I ordered 3 lunches today over the phone. They told me it would be about 20 minutes. When we arrived our order was ready. The food was great as usual and service friendly. We've eaten here many times in the past year and food is always very good. I've tried several things on the menu and have been happy with all the selections. My family used to eat here a lot when we lived in the area. The food is good, but I had a very bad experience at one point where we waited for 15 minutes to be seated only to have one of the staff come and tell us that the restaurant closes in 10 minutes and we can't eat here. I am re-writing this review because the business owner replied to my last one saying that "the staff told a different story" as if I made the story up. I mentioned this in the last review and will say it again: I am in the service industry, I understand that things happen, but this is unacceptable. If your service staff makes a mistake like this, and this was a rude mistake, the correct response is, "I am so very sorry, I hope this doesn't discourage you from returning." The arrogance of claiming that "your staff told a different story" is appalling. Needless to say, we don't live here anymore, so it won't be much of an issue. However I was very disappointed not only in the service, but in the response to my complaint. Especially considering my parents did frequent this restaurant at one point and gave them good business. It's business owners like this that are the reason that good service in restaurants is no longer easy to find. Disappointing. read more

We have followed Ploy for at least two positions before she opened up her own restaurant. She and her husband are amazing, and everything they do is imbued with a sense of excellence. My son, who is currently in Thailand, says the food is perfect. I totally agree. There is nothing I have had on the menu that lacks anything, either in Taste or in presentation. Pad Se Ewe, and of course Pad Thai are two traditional fave's, but do not miss the Mango Sticky Rice for dessert! read more

Having grown up in Lebanon I never imagined I would be able to order Tom Kha soup and Larb Gai (Thai chopped chicken salad) on Broadway. Mae Ploy's has the best Thai menu I have seen in a very long time, and the food is as great as the service. Can't wait to come back. New favorite Thai restaurant. Wow, this restaurant far exceeded my expectations for a Thai restaurant in Lebanon, OH! My mother and I both had the Lady Kee Mao (something new for us!) and I would come back for that dish alone. But the fun thing was that I would also come back to try absolutely everything on the menu. The moment we walked in, we started commenting on the lovely smell. Every dish that passed by us looked incredible, and the staff had the perfect level of attentiveness -- not overbearing, but welcoming. Not to mention the beautiful ambience! The bones of the old bank are decorated top to bottom in beautiful tapestries and pictures with spotlights providing a high-level glow.
