I love the concept of cafeteria style service. Everything was displayed beautifully and it was quick and convenient to order. I thought the dish I ordered was really good and can't wait to try more. I got the mashed sweet potatoes, ginger beets, mac and cheese, and pulled pork. I thought the pork had great flavor and was nice and juicy. Wow. Just, wow. I'm literally reviewing this as I'm eating it. I ordered Maepole from UberEats 25 minutes before closing time (yes, I was that person). Craving some homemade vegetables but no time to make any myself I decided to order from this restaurant having no previous connotations of it. Forget that Maepole is a healthy vegetarian and vegan friendly place. This will be some of the best food you will eat in Athens. I made my own Maepole of sweet potato, chicken, green beans, carrots topped with siracha honey and an additional side of Mac and cheese. The flavor of the every item listed is absolutely delicious!! Beyond awesome food and awesome people. Love the southern food version of chipotle, and love that the food seems fresh and tastes great. Prices are somewhat high but honestly for what you get knowing the quality and the serving size, it's not too much. It's probably just right. Not a deal or anything, but livable. Tried this place while in Athens for the day. I came in around 2 o'clock and it wasn't too busy. I was instantly greeted by the kind employees who helped me out for it being my first time. I made my own salad and it was absolutely delicious. I got beets, carrots, and tempeh with the tumeric dressing. I usually do not like beets, but they were pretty good, and i was very happy with the tempeh because most restaurants don't have vegetarian options. Ate there for the first time today, and although stuffed after eating every bite, instead of feeling bloated, I felt so healthy and vitamin filled! Everything there is healthy, except maybe for the soft drinks. If you want deep fried food, or the usual burger on white bun with chips or fries, go elsewhere. The meals are one dish. You start with a base of quinoa, brown rice, greens, or mashed sweet potatoes. Top that with a choice of 2 colorful veggie side dishes or mac and cheese. Then add chicken, grass-fed beef meatballs, pork, or black eyed pea tempeh. Top with pick of several homemade sauces. I got quinoa, bean salad, kale & red cabbage, pulled pork (not greasy), turmeric & ginger sauce. It tasted fresh and yummy. Although I got there around 2:00, there were a good many customers, maybe due to the restaurant being new. I had no problem getting my meal quickly, and workers greeted customers and explained how to order. Parking is limited. I found a spot, but I would imagine at more typical meal times it could pose a problem. I try to eat healthy, so I will probably be going back frequently. read more

We had to try this place because of the rave reviews I have heard about the chef. I'm just being real...the food was completely underwhelming. We all chose different combinations and we got 4 sauces to share and try. The food was cooked well and tasted fresh, but it wasn't seasoned. It was bland. We of course tried the sauces on the food and the sauces were odd and made the food taste worse. We all ended up going somewhere else to eat and tossed the food. Great find if you are vegetarian, vegan or gluten free! I ordered the greens mix as my base with three veggie sides: green beans, hoppin john salad, and Brussels sprouts salad. The green beans were my favorite - roasted with onions. It was obvious that they mixed batches bc some were more cooked than others, but I enjoyed the textural difference and they tasted great. The Brussels slaw has sesame seeds and oil on it, so it's distinctively flavored. The hoppin john salad was my least favorite, but it was still good. It's very dry and I feel like it would be better with some of the bean cooking liquid in it. I tried the buttermilk dressing (like a very light ranch, heavy on the fresh dill) and the pesto (delicious). I look forward to coming back. read more
