My family of 8 arrived at 5:30pm on May 11 for 6pm reservations. We were promptly seated. I have to admit I was hesitant when I initially made the reservations because Magdy who is the owners, cook, greeter and many other hats mentioned that it would be a limited menu due to the Indiana State graduations. He further assured us that if anyone wanted something different he would be able to accommodate them. Our server tended to us immediately and we though there might be issues when she explained that she was not a server but more a friend of Magdy's who helps him out during busy occasions. I'll mention right away that our service was great, probably better than the average we are used to. My wife strayed from the menu offered and asked for Beef Wellington which is included on their regular menu. Our server checked with Magdy and he said it would be no problem. The offered menu included filet, lamb chops, red snapper with a crab topping and chicken marsala. Without making this review too long I will say that within our party we ordered at least 1 of each available item and the Wellington. Everything was cooked to perfection and tasted wonderful. 2 of my adult children were a little surprised that their filet was presented with a red gravy French style, but once they tasted it their apprehension subsided. Wonderful flavor not to mention a piece of filet that melted in your mouth. Red snapper cooked perfectly with a crab and cream sauce on top to die for. The lamb chop cooked to a perfect medium rare sitting on top of a rich red gravy that went perfect. Two tender chicken breast in a dreamy masala sauce with mushrooms cooked to perfection. My wife's beef Wellington cooked to a perfect medium rare in a crisp pastry with wonderful sauce. She was in heaven. Magdy you now have 8 more admirerers who will definitely be return customers. When asked out by my friend, Pam, for a birthday dinner, we met at Magdy's, a resturant I was not familiar with and of course I really didn't know what to expect. I was warmly greeted , seated with my friend and I knew that my first experience at Magdy's was going to be great. The waiters were friendly and attentive, our glasses were always filled. Our appetizer and dinner not only looked and smelled great, but it was excellent. Magdy's is one of the best restaurants in Terre Haute. If looking for a quaint resturant with exceptional service and food, Magdy's is a restaurant that should be considered, you will not be disappointed. Passing through Terra Haute and stumbled on Magdy's. It was the best meal I've ever eaten. Salmon and lamb perfectly prepared. The vegetables cooked just right. Sauces delicious. The atmosphere restful-music not too loud, quiet, subtle colors and artwork, the service outstanding. Highly recommended. read more

We came in around 8:45, for a Saturday night and there were about five tables sat. There is a small bar with 4 seats in the corner. We weren't greeted at the door so we just sat at the bar. It was covered in stuff and the bartender I guess? Came over and looked at us strangely, as if it wasn't common for someone to come up and sit there. There was some confusion between the staff as to who would be taking care of us. Finally get a drink order in, menu is small, they seemed willing to make adjustments and take requests. I ordered the French onion and Caesar to start then the filet. We sat for a while watching through the kitchen window while a prep person used her bare hands to make salads and then eat food and put her fingers in her mouth. There were also dirty dishes on the cutting area where food was being prepared. At least 2 people asked if we were still waiting for our salads, it had been about 20 min at this point. My boyfriend asked for anchovies on his Caesar and one person looked at us with great confusion as to what an anchovy was. They claimed to make the dressing and he was brought out a bowl of what I think was anchovy oil. The salad was pretty sad looking, more inner romaine bits and maybe 4 pieces of real green lettuce. The French onion was lacking any flavor besides salt and cheap beef stock. Our main dishes came out about 20 min later and when it said on the menu, vegetable du jour and potato, that means 3 wedges of soggy potato and frozen veggie medley from a bag that they decided to leave a piece of on my plate. My "filet" was nothing more than a cheap piece of maybe sirloin meat glued with something else. Very bland. My boyfriend had the veal marsala with mushroom risotto. The risotto was bland and not the arborio rice. The chef or owner came out in a huff and started telling us we're wrong about the risotto and physically scooped some off my boyfriend's plate to show us, all the while I can't look away from his disgustingly dirty hands and fingernails. They were caked with who knows what under them for them to be black. I recommend going next door to Umi. read more

My husband and I went to this restaurant for the first time last night, the menu was very limited in selection. The restaurant is very small and seating makes you feel like you are in a hamburger joint. Definitely not what I was expecting after all of the reviews I had read. The staff was friendly but rushing customers out the door due to no seating and over booking reservations. The food is most definitely not the best in Terre Haute, my husband and I both ordered filet that was pounded out and tenderized to point it was beef roast. I have been sick all day today on Valentines day with what appears to be food poisoning after eating here. read more

The beef wellington was great and atmosphere as well. This was an enjoyable experience. The staff was very friendly and welcoming. It appeared that many guests were regulars who enjoy a relaxing dinner with friends or family. This is not a place if you are in a hurry...they encourage you to stay and enjoy yourself and your company. Incredible food. They don't have a HUGE menu but they have quality choices. The tieramisu is incredible.

My wife and I had an anniversary dinner here and it was superb. My wife had the veal Oscar with asparagus and cream sauce, was cooked perfectly, delicious. What a nice surprise to find this jewel tucked off of 3rd Street in Terre Haute. I love trying local cuisine rather than settling for national chains - for better or worse. This time at Magdy's - it was for better! Lucky for us, we arrived on a slow night and had the undivided attention of the owner/host/chef Magdy and also of the head waiter/bartender. It was delightful conversation over fantastic food. The extensive menu made making a choice difficult - I wanted to try everything! Great place to eat!! One of the best dinners we have had at a restaurant! Lamb was outstanding. Ribeye was excellent too!

Place was filled with smoke. Food was okay. I would order anything but steak here. Service was good.
