I'm only going to be briefly in Tracy for this evening. What's there to do in Tracy? Not much. It's like Modesto, Manteca, Ripon, Lathrop, or Turlock. This is about 20 minutes to Stockton, and also an hour away to Oakland. I'm having New American. This is a Roasted Alaskan Halibut on Pesto Lemon Cream Sauce. I like Halibut as much as Branzino, Mahi-Mahi, Snapper, Rockfish, and Salmon. I didn't know Bell Peppers would go with Country Potatoes and Asparagus, but it does. I don't know what the Potatoes were seasoned with, but it looks like Paprika and is slightly smoky. The Halibut was seared to perfection. I know what a Pesto is. I know what a Lemon Cream Sauce is. I never had a Pesto and Lemon Cream Sauce together until now though. The sauce is terrific. It wasn't heavy at all, too acidic, or overpowering. This is a good meal before I go back to the North Bay tomorrow. I was thinking this was going to be a 4.2 stars, this could be a 4.4 stars on a good day, but I give this 4.3 stars. read more

Very intimate dinning area, complete list of delicious and 5 star presented appetizers. Craft beer selection, nice list of imported or American beers with full complete wine list. The entrées are, wonderful. Let's say very fresh and enticing flavor of epic satisfaction. I ordered the T-Bone medium rare and it was as good as any steak I have had prepared. Thomas the owner interacted with the entire group and was an enjoyable personality to meet. The food was good but it was not worth the price. The portions were extremely small. My husband ordered the Caesar salad and received about 6 strips of lettuce and 1, yes 1, crouton for $8.95. The service was adequate, but nothing extraordinary. The ambiance was cozy, and kind of cute, but smelled hella dusty, the carpet was bulging in places, separated at the seams, and a cat away from being ripped apart. read more

Okay admit it. You have wondered about dinning here. Make a reservation and eat here. Make your reservation and try his appetizers with your favorite cocktail. The Crab Cakes, the scallops or his Ahi. Order a bottle of wine from his extensive collection For salads my Favorites are the Caprese or the Ceasar Follow that with a Veal Dore. His Dry aged Steaks are worth it while his Rack of Lamb medium is not to be missed along with his desserts. read more

We came here for our 9th anniversary dinner last Saturday night. We got seated immediately, it was nice to come this night as the place wasn't crowded as it was Labor Day weekend which restaurants are usually slower. Our server was Thomas. He was a super nice guy. We requested to sit outside as the weather wasn't too hot and had a nice breeze going also. We started with the calamari, and split the wedge salad also. Both were really good, the calamari was breaded lightly, so it was fried to the point that the crunch was too hard or thick. The wedge was ok, not the best one or worst, just lacked ingredients in my opinion. We got the alaskan halibut and seared scallops for dinner. The halibut was excellent, came with a lemon pesto sauce, and small portion of potatoes too. The scallops were good, not over done and good size portions. I would come back again and get the same item or try some steak next time. read more

Magellan's is one of Tracy's hole-in-the-wall restaurants; however, the environment makes one feel like they've walked into a New York restaurant. The waiter was attentive to our table, which made the experience delightful. I ordered the Mahi-Mahi dish, which did not disappoint. Overall, good restaurant to eat at. read more

Apparently this place is in no need for your money.. Like Seinfeld's soup nazi, this place is the meal nazi.. My wife and I are new to Tracy and walked in to order take out.. Some pretentious smug man waddles from behind the bar, "do you have a reservation?.." Um no but we'd just like to look at the menu and order something to go.. "We don't do take out.. it's reservation only...." WTF?! I asked, "Lemme see if I heard you correctly.. We can't eat your food unless we have a sit down reservation?" He says, "Yes, we like to keep it simple like that.." Well, I said, that's unfortunate.." (we were ordering for 6 people), we left and got chinese around the corner.. It's nice to know the business is doing well enough to turn away customers who are practically throwing money at them. The vibe in this tiny place was not very inviting either.. I have a lot of patience for waiting, im a very reasonable person and understands that sometimes restaurants are under staffed or sometime just so busy....but my problem is that the table next to us got their food first before we did and we ordered 20 minutes before they did.. Furthermore for a party of 6 the waiter saying everything included when handing me the bill and then seeing an automatic 18% gratuity after I had paid is just over the top. I've had Magellan's on my wish list since Yelp first started. Well, last night and among great company, I finally took Magellan's off the bucket list. Our meal started off with a very lightly battered Calamari. Up next was a Cesar's Salad with Anchovies. Lastly, I selected one of three specials for the evening, Wild Boar. One word folks; Amazing! Magellans is a Tracy favorite that falls short. The restaurant decor is tired, carpet dirty, general housekeeping issues. They no longer provide a menu at the table, which is challenging for those that are not using a smart phone. The restaurant should provide a hard copy menu for those that are not smart phone saavy. In town for work and decided to find a nice place for dinner. Was seated quickly but completely ignored after that. It's not a large place and I was making eye contact with someone who worked there. No water, no drink orders nothing for at least 15 minutes of sitting there. Menus were on our phone and we had put them down once deciding and still we sat with no attention. The guy who sat us walked by us several times and no acknowledgment what so ever. Too bad looks like they have good reviews. Ended up leaving and finding another place to eat. read more

The server is a bar tender and food server. So sad to see this. Wanted dessert and coffee but did not want to wait. Will not return. This is my second time at this establishment and I cherish it. The location and feel when you walk through the door takes you across seas to somewhere beautiful and maybe even exotic. For me, it gives me the nostalgic feelings of France and it's eloquently refined eating experiences. I spoiled myself with a multi-course dinner and drink pairing consisting of: the Pinot Grigio with the Indian Sea Prawns and Green Shell Mussels, followed by the Sauvignon Blanc to accompany the Tomato Salad and Alaskan Halibut, to end my decadent journey I chose to have a classic espresso with the Tiramisu and a Chocolatini. Every item tasted fresh, was cooked to timely perfection, and flavored properly. You are supposed to taste the delicate nature of each ingredient and it's quality! Not have them masked by the sauces or the seasoning, it's meant to be a harmonious marriage which is definitely accomplished here. Two of my most favorite things in the world are food and taking my time to have a foodie worthy meal! What I also love about Magellan's is the carefully tailored menu of culturally diverse food and beverage. Unlike most restaurants these days that have novels for menus, they've taken the time to cultivate thoughtful choices to express various regions of the world. The other aspect that I admire is the owner's traditional and experienced approach. I can't help, but adore that he is able to cater to everyone, allow the space for diners to truly delve into the experience with loved ones (something too many people seem to forget or not appreciate these days), and his kindred spirit. You can tell the owner has a real bon vivant for food, drink, and company. If I could speak to any negative reviewers, I'd love to explain to them my point of view and help them see the beauty and grace of Magellan's. First off food is delicious but it would be even better if the veggie and potato portions that come with it weren't so small. It would also be nice if they offered bread while waiting for our meal. It took 45 mins for us to get our food because there was only 1person who hosted, served and turned over tables. So service was lacking. I even had to ask for water which is usually the first thing most places give upon being seated. And because the restaurant was pretty full for a weeknight it's not possible for just 1 person to manage everything alone. Other than when our order was taken and our meal was served we were never even checked on. Another server would' definitely have made a big difference. read more

BF found this restaurant online with great reviews. First time for the both of us. Had a reservation which is suggested, was a few minutes early but seated immediately. However, service was extremely slow. Seems like there is very minimal staff, we were truly patient for that reason. Took forever to get our food. A couple not far from us got up and left before placing their own order, sure it was due to lack of service. Ordered several appetizers as my entree and my BF ordered the rack of lamb and we both got caesar salads which started our meal. Salad was decent but each came with one small crouton. Would have been nice to get a few more. I'd definitely request a side or extra next time. I also had a lemon drop which was ok as well. BF ordered a lemonade he was charged for but never received. Food presentation was nice. But my prawns and scallops were very bland. Crab cakes had great flavor, but lots of bread filler for cakes that are already fairly small. BF loved them. The rack of lamb was the star of the show! The meat was super tender and full of flavor! Wish I had ordered my own. Wasn't impressed with the potatoes and vegetables served. Potatoes tasted a lil scorched but I only sampled a little. If you enjoy lamb definitely order it. Not ready to write them off maybe it was just an off evening.
