Staff is incredibly rude, yelling at customers and physically assaulting them for nothing. Manager is constantly flipping out on people if they ask any questions. Came here for lunch on 5.29.19. I had never been to MaGerk's before even though I'm always in the downtown bel air area. First of all, upon entering the joint I couldn't help but notice how stinkin cute it is inside. Stained glass windows, a gorgeous bar, just a general nice ambiance and I really loved it. We opted to eat in the outside dining area. There's a bar out there too and plenty of seating, and it's blocked off from the sidewalk by these cute little gates. Also there's fans and lots of shade. Our server came immediately to get our drink order and tell us about specials. We started with an order of old bay wings and they were good. Maybe SLIGHTLY overdone but overall really good. I think their ranch sauce is homemade; it was delicious. For my meal I got the raven burger - a burger topped with a crab cake, bacon, and Swiss cheese. The burger was delicious. I asked for medium and it was slightly over cooked, but still juicy. The crab cake was ok. I've definitely had better, but it wasn't bad. I think maybe it's a little too "loose" and they could bind it up a bit more. But the flavor was on point. Overall we had a good time, the service was good, the food was good, and I loved the vibe here. I'll definitely be adding this to my bel air rotation. read more

Some failed, some came close and then there are those that blow me away! Tones from MaGerks are def as good as it gets outside Pennsylvania! I'm a wiz guy and they don't disappoint, as the meat and the cheese sauce are blended together, wit onions, and wit hots! Perfectly paired with Phillys own @yardsbrew! And the wings are amazing as well! A perfect appetizer for an amazing main course! So if you're looking for a good cheesesteak, they have a location in Fed Hill and one in Belair! Def "C.C." Hadn't been here in awhile, even before the Covid...Thought I'd give it a shot today...restaurants being open again inside. 4pm not what I would call busy. Decided to sit inside...plenty of booths available with cushion seats. Was seated at a high top, I guess because I was by myself. Something I've noticed wait staff doesn't want what they perceive as small tip tables. Waited for what I thought was a sufficient amount of time. Plenty of wait staff standing at the bar talking. I wasn't even recognized by the wait staff. No..be with you shortly or can I do your drink order. Enough! This was my first time here, had the Jam-on-Burger and OMG. Before today nothing ever touched a burger except an IN N OUT burger (guy from the east coast) . HIGHLY FRUSTRATED WITH THIS PLACE.... My family and my friends love MaGerks. However I have been there 3 different times. Had 3 different waiters and each time I say I am allergic to RED MEAT! Can they please cook my chicken in a pan... EVERY F'N TIME.... I am told "Our kitchen cookers doesn't do that" or " I wouldn't trust our cooks to do that". The service here is terrible. I went here on a Saturday morning with a group of about 20 for my cousins birthday. It took over 25 minutes for us to get a drink on a Saturday afternoon. My friend started timing the server and at 26 minutes he finally came out with drinks but was missing some. I had to get the manager to get the missing drinks. We ordered food then our server changed and the new girl avoided us like the plague. We had to repeatedly go to the bar for drinks. At one point there was 3 of us from the party up at the bar ordering drinks because the service was that slow! A flamboyant male bar tender said to his bar back " Why aren't these people ordering at there table". My cousin who was at the end of the bar waiting said " Because it takes over 25 minutes with our waitress". The bartenders face got red because he didn't know we were all together. No bartender should be complaining about making drinks it's your job. Later on we got a cake for my cousin. Our server DID NOT give us extra forks, plates, or the right cutlery for cutting and serving the cake. I had to ask her and she didn't bring over enough plates. Needless to say this place is run by clowns. She was passive aggressive. What ever teenagers serve there need to learn how to attend to customers and I guarantee the sassy bartender says a lot of stuff about patrons that they can hear because three of us at different places in the bar could hear him talk about us. Don't give this place your money. I was with 2 other restaurant owners that day who live in the area and we were ALL astonished at how lacking the service is here. read more

I have been coming to Magerks Pub for years. During those years I have ignored all the weird situations that have gone on because of the cheap prices and never ending drinks. I love black out fridays ! But this most recent situation has shaken me from my regular drunk friday night drive. This place is seriously full of a bunch of MaJerks. Of course , after a few threats to whatever waitstaff may be near (that's how u keep em in check , learned from the owner) Im pretty confident everyone there will stay completely silent. Last Friday, on a regular tater-tot assisted beer binge i notice a particular feeling of lust in the air. Before i can turn my head to perceive whatever spark of love is in the air , the hairs on the back of my neck stand up; i can feel i'm making the W R O N G decision. I continue to turn , with every natural warning sign my body can muster at me to stop. Before my head is even at a 45 degree angle i hear a crunch , almost in my ear. I snap back to my tots, and they're MISSING! Instantly my eyes dart around the room searching for the culprit. Let me start by saying that a group of eight family members and friends have been going to McGerk's EVERY Tuesday night since 2007 (yes, 7 years) to have dinner and play Charm City Trivia. Over the past several months there has been a noticeable and unwelcome change in this restaurant. They have introduced a new menu which is frankly just like the old one but more expensive and still just mediocre bar food. They switched to using 12oz plastic glasses and plastic utensils. Even when trying to eat a salad I must request a proper set if utensils from our server. Speaking of servers... It's bad! The waitstaff is inattentive and lazy. They come to the table shouting out orders and then make us pass the food around until it lands at the right place. If your lucky you'll get one or two refills on your drink in two and a half hours. We are also relegated to eating on folding tables and outdoor plastic chairs. It's almost like they think we're paying a reduced price on Tuesday nights so we should accept this poor level of service and picnic like atmosphere. Most restaurants would LOVE an additional 200 diners and drinkers on a Tuesday (typically a slow night in the restaurant world). Tonight after nearly eight years we were given a letter from the management stating they were discontinuing Trivia Night. Maybe this is for the best as they obviously do not appreciate the business that this loyal group brings in every week. I would welcome a reply by the management explaining the dramatic shift in service and quality. Until then we will head to the local microbrewery to continue our routine Tuesday night dinners and fellowship. read more

Through some strange combination of masochism, intensive generosity, and possibly sheer stupidity, I volunteered to DD tonight. Got to MaGerks at about six thirty (I like to go out early, but jesus--OK, so we were out early because of this pseudo reunion thing) this evening, snagged what looked to be the last spot in the lot out back. The restaurant portion of the joint seemed pretty busy, but the bar was still pretty dead when we got there. That didn't last nearly as long as I thought it would. Perhaps Bel Air folk start their evenings far earlier than I'm used to. Or maybe it was spill-over from the strange pseudo reunion going on in the back; this was the reason my friends actually ventured out this evening. Either way, the bar was packed and rather loud by eight. Yes, eight pm. No mind. My friends all got, well, drunk. I ate. If I couldn't drink, I'd be damned if I wasn't going to get some enjoyment (other than that I got out of my drunk friends) out of the evening, and everything on the menu looked tempting when I was perusing it. I didn't try any of the cheese steak, but they've got about twelve different kinds on the menu. I had Cream of Crab soup, which was pretty damned good. I followed it up with the French Dip, which was just about fucking amazing. My only complaint was that the sandwich comes with chips, and I had to order the fries that I wanted on the side, instead of subbing them in (the fries were awesome too). The bartenders were plentiful, good-looking, and helpful, the drinks weren't ridiculously priced. They had bottles of Magners, which alone earned them the fourth star. I get the feeling this is mostly a townie place, but they seem to have a lot going on all the time and lots of room. I will never be a regular, but I certainly wouldn't turn my nose up at the opportunity to visit again. Even if it is only so I can get my hands on that french dip again. Decent bar in a nice area. The general clientele was just fine, and there is a lot of space to move about. It's pretty clean, even the bathrooms are nice for a bar, and there's plenty of places to sit. Any time I've been there has been a decent experience, no loud live entertainment that hindered my conversation or obnoxious drunk people flying around. I didn't eat anything here, but the drinks left me wanting. I'm a tiny girl, but even after a couple shooters and a few margaritas, I barely felt a thing. In a nutshell, I'd go back as a nice choice in bars as far as atmosphere, but I wouldn't come here with the intention of getting anywhere on the drunk scale...unless I was really thirsty and had a lot of money to blow. read more

I love outdoor dining. Magerks has a great outside area. I've never had a bad server, and the food is really good. This time we had the gumbo and the crab nachos. To start we had the cheesesteak egg rolls. Always a must have. My sweetie had the gumbo. He said it was good. I had a spoonful, thought the flavor was great. My crab nachos were tasty. One thing to mention, the crab was crab dip style not fresh meat "crumbled" on top which for some reason I had expected. Didn't make it bad, just not what I was expecting. We came here as a very large party after a wedding rehearsal in the area. The restaurant was more than accommodating. Our server was very friendly and our drinks/ food didn't take long considering our group was about 20 people. I had the cheesesteak and it was delish. Had not been here since they first change over from Uncle Georges many years ago. Was taken back at first by how nice every thing looked. The fireplace was going in the back and it was real cozy....We got a booth up near the front bar. The first thing we noticed about the booth was that the table top had lots of glass stains.....it may have been whiped down but the top looked like it needed a more in tense cleaning. Then my wife noticed that we had a TV in our booth, but it was so dirty and covered with splatter stains she didn't even want to touch it to turn it on.....someone needs a bucket of hot water, a rag and some cleaner and give this place a good scrubbing. The food was good....we both started with soups I had the french onion and my wife had the crab soup, no complaints both were tasty. We both had the cheese steak they were cooked perfect but were bland with out any seasoning....mine was the McGerk the french dressing was all gathered in the center. The service was very good everyone had big smiles and made you feel happy to be there. The manger came over to our table to look at a smart phone deal I had and at first I thought she might have been someone my wife knew she was so freindly when she approached out talbe. I came here on a Saturday night with a good sized group to celebrate a birthday. I did not experience the food, only the drinks and the nightlife atmosphere. I will start with the cons since, to me, they greatly outweigh the pros: Cons: the bartenders don't actually put any alcohol in the drinks. Seriously, I, a lightweight, had about 4 drinks and barely felt any sort of buzz. I confirmed thiz with others in my group and they felt the same way. They totally rip you off. I suggest pregaming or buying your drinks elsewhere before you come here for a night out. Pros: this is the only place in Bel Air that has a real dance floor and any sort of ethnic and age diversity in the crowd. Lots of young people here, and then some of the typical Bel Air middle aged crowd as well. Come here if you're in the mood to dance! This place had great food but the service kind of ruined the experience. I'll start with the positive. We ordered crab dip to start which was great. It came with bread, carrots, and celery and had good flavor. For my meal I ordered a Cesar salad with tuna cooked medium rare. The salad portion was huge, the dressing was good, and the tuna had good flavor but the filets were very small and thin and were way over cooked. My fiancé ordered a chicken salad sandwich with gumbo. The chicken salad was different and had an interesting flavor. We both like traditional chicken salad so this was not our favorite. The gumbo was excellent and very thick. Both the chicken and andouille sausage had great flavor. I would love to have the gumbo again. Now for the negative, our first waitress had a medical emergency and had to leave after getting our drinks so no one came to our table for a good 15-20 minutes after we got our drinks and we had no idea what was going on. A manager then came to take our orders and comp'd our appetizers which was very nice. We had high hopes at that point but then it took forever to get our food. We spent a total of almost 2 hours in there just for lunch. When we arrived there weren't more than 5 tables full so volume was not the issue. All in all the food was good and I would love to come back to see if the service was just a one time fluke. read more

I went in for lunch on a Friday afternoon at 2:00. It wasn't busy, especially at the bar. There were 2 bartenders and a hey just chose to ignore me. I waited for 10 minutes and watched other people walk up to the bar and get served before I was even greeted. HORRIBLE SERVICE. Worst bar to go to in the town of Bel Air they make rules up according to how the night goes. Bouncer told a friend of mine he was allowed BACK in as he left to go help a friend. Then was told they weren't allowed back in by a Harford county sheriff and was going to be arrested for trespassing.... makes total sense. Would give zero stars if that's a thing, they also hang a Philadelphia Eagles flag outside their bar when they should know that team does not fly here, it's called the Baltimore Ravens. read more

Menu selection was mediocre - I did get a cheesesteak that tasted good- although it was not at all monumental. The drinks unfortunately were very disappointing- low on ice- mojitos were definitely subpar. One of the meals we ordered arrived completely wrong (completely different menu item) after waiting 40 mins for food, they then rushed out the right meal.... which was obviously rushed. Overall.... very subpar experience. They need to really step up the experience and put some money into the place if they want to keep up with other options in the area. read more

First off, our server was very good -- one of the better ones as of late. The food?? This place is noted for their cheese steaks? What a major disappointment. Both me and my girlfriend ordered cheese steaks. A fair amount of meat, but absolutely NO taste whatsoever. Bland, bland, bland. My girlfriend said the same exact thing. The only decent part about the cheese steak was the roll. Onion rings were ok and fries were bland.
