Maggiano's is one of the few chains that I enjoy. Their decor is casual yet classy and the food is usually consistently good. Our service was also good this evening, even if the bar service took a long time. I had the zucchini frites - WOW! We all loved the crunchy texture on the zucchini and several of us agreed that it was the best we'd ever had. My margarita was beautiful but I feel like the foam was designed to hide the fact that you really don't get a lot of the actual drink. For my entree, I chose their rigatoni D, which was outstanding. This place is close to our hotel and had great reviews. First the ambiance was amazing. It is a crooners era and with Linnen table cloths you have to know it was going to be nice. The prices are $$ but the food was wonderful. There were 6 of us and only waited a few min to be seated. The service was first class and Enrique was great. Maggianos, what have you done? I've loved it here since visiting the original one in Chicago a couple decades ago. Something flipped for us this time. We are no longer thrilled. The bread they bring out beforehand changed. No more olive oil and spices, just butter. Ugh. The side Caesar salad was dry and boring and not even a little bit green. They used all the white yucky parts of the romaine. The chicken parm used to be pounded thin and cooked crispy as it should be, now it's too thick. The eggplant parm is dry with hardly any sauce. They removed other years-long favorites from the menu such as soups and the manicotti which disappointed us, but hey, that's all restaurants lately. Changing up the menu while making things worse instead of better. We were recently here to celebrate a special occasion. Things were taking long but it was a busy weeknight. Noise level was not too high. Lighting was dim so we had to use our phone flashlights to see the menu better but that's not a deal breaker. What sent us straight to Awkwardville was how they brought out half the table's orders while the other half of us waited for around 17 minutes as the food got cold. The waiter was friendly but he didn't hustle at all the entire evening. He did apologize for the delay in receiving the rest of the orders but never an admission of the mistake. In fact, he and the...manager...? said to us twice, "oh your orders are ready let me go see where they are." Really, guys? Don't insult our intelligence. Ya messed up! Then to top it off nothing was comped. Instead we received two small cards: written on them were pre-chosen free appetizers that expire in a couple weeks. Calamari? We don't eat calamari. What a lame attempt to make amends. I will end by saying the wine was fantastic as was the cheese ravioli and the crispy mozzarella. And they did give us an extra free dessert to go. I am not going to rush back here, that's for sure. The changes they made to menu items and recipes may help their bottom line but do nothing to keep us loyal. The atmosphere is always nice and clean with good ambiance and this location has awesome parking! You can get validation for free parking which makes it super easy to get there. You even have time for a movie. Two of us shared a chicken picatta which was delicious and well-prepared. We shared a salad that was terrific and enough for two also. So I was in Denver for a conference last weekend, and found Maggiano's. Was very pleased with how quickly they took care of me, especially since there was a 20 top next to me as well. While staying in the area for work, we stopped in here for dinner on a Monday night and they were packed! It was because a huge conference was in town at the time. We made reservations and were promptly seated when we came in, but our service was so very delayed. Our server was great though, very helpful and engaging, but his service was sparce due to all the tables he was having to manage. One example - It took us 15 minutes to get the pitcher of sangria we ordered. This is way too long for our first drinks. The food was decent. I did have some gristle in my chicken parm and it was in an odd place, in the middle of the meat, not the side. But the sauce and food tasted great otherwise. We also tried their Rigatoni alla Vodka was outstanding! The flavors of the sauce were incredible (and we just got back from Italy a couple of weeks ago!)!! Save room for dessert - We tried their Warm Apple Crostada and that was FABULOUS!!! Out server was great... we told him we were surprised about the poor service (due to wait) and he agreed and told us it's not usually like this. We said there was a huge conference in town and it seemed like management didn't properly prepare for that and he pretty much agreed with us. Met up with family at Maggiano's on Nov 15, and the place nailed it for a big group dinner. Portions were massive -- definitely worth the price. I went with the gluten-free pasta and marinara, which was solid, but the real winners were the calamari and mushroom appetizers. Those disappeared fast. We had a big round table that made chatting with everyone super easy, and the whole place was already dressed up for the holidays -- warm, festive, and honestly pretty charming. And it was definitely more of a toast texture than crostini, which my husband liked but I didn't as much. Toast didn't hold up to the moisture of the tomtatoes as well. The flavor was very nice though. I tried the seafood linguine (which I was hoping was a frutti di mare) and all the seafood was overcooked. It used to be fresh bread with side of oil and balsamic vinegar dipping. They need to bring that back for an Italian venue! Don't get me wrong, the fresh bread basket with sweet butter is absolutely delicious but throws off the Italian vibe. The eggplant Parmesan went away and now is a featured menu item. I tasted it from my friend's entree. Delicious but I can taste the difference. Old and new tastes delicious but different. Im still a big fan of the old eggplant Parmesan!! We returned to this restaurant after about six years. We were again in the Denver area. There's not many of these across the country, but we had an excellent experience last visit. Again, this was a great experience for us. The food was spectacular and also the service. We forgot the main course pictures but got the dessert. Whatever corporate tool ruined the franchise, by changing their recipes, should not be smug, as if successful, because they inflicted their bad taste upon this world, while removing the goodness therefrom, and are terrible at what they do. The chick parm used to be a pounded-flat cutlet, authenticly prepared like veal, and remniscient of Austrian chicken schnitzel. Now there's a thick cut, and they changed the sauce. Changed the pasta. Changed the bread. Changed everything. And it's terrible now. Their marinara has a bad ratio of Italian spices in it, and leaves an aftertaste that should be erased from the culinary lexicon, and historical timeline. They no longer do the olive oil/pepper grind/flatbread, anymore. It's now salted sweet rolls, with butter. They also raised prices. I used to get a chick parm and Manhattan, for $30. Noticing their cocktails are now $15, I didn't order one, but the check was still $30. When I complained it wasn't what I expected, they offered not even a percentage off. I cannot in good conscience recommend Maggiano's to anyone, any longer, and I will never voluntarily eat there, at my own expense, ever again. Just to start off... I am a big Maggiano's fan. It also doesn't hurt that I have one ten minutes from my house. We took the very short route from our hotel and walked to this restaurant. They all pretty much look the same and work under the same model. Reviews for the different locations will really be the same. The major changes are staff, parking and location. When you come into a Maggiano's Little Italy restaurant you are immediately greeted by warm friendly people eager to have you come into their restaurant. This is a BIG FUN LIVELY HAPPY restaurant that also have fabulous food... Right from the start of this review I am telling you that they get five stars because they deserve it... One last thing to remember... It is a chain restaurant. How did they do it? They know the area that they're in and become the perfect local family restaurant. There were four of us at the table.... Our waiter, Olivia immediately came over to us, introduced herself and asked if we have been here before.... We have and were on our way to ordering the massive amounts of food that would soon be coming to our table. Olivia was a wonderful waitress, I mean good... really good. I would come back here just to have Olivia as our server. She is THAT GOOD. The family style menu is just that... lots and lots of food on a plate for people to share. This is a compilation of my last few visits: Appetizers: Stuffed Mushrooms - Excellent.. These were large stuffed mushrooms and they gave us enough for two each. The mushrooms were big and juicy with with a tasty breadcrumb stuffing. Calamari Fritté - Well cooked (not rubbery) tender rings and tentacles with a crispy coating. Our plate had an ample serving for all of us to share. Salads: Chopped Salad - I love their chopped salad as it's filled with everything good and is served well chilled and MORE than enough for the table. Fried Mozarella Pastas: Mom's Lasagna - Plenty of cheese and meet engulfed in delicious broad lasagna noodles with lots and lots of cause. Shrimp Scampi - Very impressed with the abundance of shrimp and linguine in a garlicy butter sauce Entrées (Dinner Only)- Choose 2, we've had the: Chicken Parmesan - well portioned pieces of chicken with plenty of rich tomato sauce and mozzarella cheese. Not too thick, not paper thin either. Chicken Marsala - well portioned chicken in a rich marsala wine sauce. Very tasty and I did not feel like I was eating the chicken swimming in sauce. Desserts: They now bring out a sampler tray and we got more Apple Crostada. Apple Crostada - OMG - apples, cinnamon, rich delicious and you'll definitely want more Gigi's Butter Cake - Absolutely the most delicious pound cake you'll ever have. Double Chocolate Brownie - exactly what the name says.... Do you like chocolate? Crème Brûlée - creamy, tasty, crispy top. Probably one of the best I have ever had. Absolutely NO SAUCE, so essentially 30.00 for .5 cup of dried spaghetti and a half of a chicken breast which was under seasoned. Once I made my own sauce it was better but I shouldn't have to do that. I will say this was a Tuesday so maybe the good cooks had the night off maybe. Then I noticed we didn't have silverware and the other tables did, then I was a little turned off by that. The spinach artichoke dip were delicious! Came out nice and hot with toasted bread. This is a beautiful restaurant inside and out with a cute patio area. Our server seemed like they did not want to be there and was going through the motions, which fair we all get that way sometimes. The food and drink was disappointing. The swirled peach Bellini was not swirled... We ordered stuffed mushrooms and those were pretty flavorless. I ordered their "Famous Rigatoni D" and my husband ordered the Shrimp Scampi. Both were really really dry and the rigatoni was over cooked and the noodles were splitting and borderline mushy. I asked for a side of sauce and I was brought what tasted like warmed heavy whipping cream... and our server also brought mushroom. The restaurant was warm and cozy and there's just a "comfort food" vibe. We had the mozzarella marinara to start and shared the chicken parmigian with spaghetti and the lasagna. I was having a pretty bad day but somehow Carolina not only became my server but was someone who actually spent a few extra moments to stop and listen and empathize. Maggiano's used to be our FAVORITE Italian place to take our family to and now (and it makes me truly sad to say this), it's not even better than Olive Garden (but meanwhile it's twice the price!) We tried the "Grand" Chicken Parmesan and it's a big change from the old chicken parm. You get less chicken. They use less cheese on the top now. And, the absolute worst part... the meat has a subtle rubbery / chewy quality to it. Now I know what you're thinking "it was just a bad piece of chicken or it wasn't cooked properly" and I thought maybe that was the case too. So I ordered it again on a totally different occasion. EXACTLY the same problem. This chicken was bad and Maggiano's should feel bad. And also, what happened to the balsamic vinegar for the olive oil and bread? Where are the salt and pepper shakers? Not a single table had these things!? I never thought I'd ever write off Maggiano's but I think it's time. read more
