Great spot to go to with coworkers if you're feeling more of a sit-down vibe compared to all the fast food in the area. Complimentary salsas were good, queso was a little more soupy/liquid than I would've liked but still okay, shrimp enchiladas were good, and the fajitas looked good. I'm not sure how long we waited but it was maybe 20 minutes. And it took even longer for them to serve us our food. I remember looking at my watch and seeing 12:45 PM and still not having any food to eat. they didn't have chips and salsa to eat while we waited for that extremely long period of time. However, the chips are either really oily or the oil they use is really dirty because by the time my food got served to me I was already feeling nauseous from the chips. in summary, the service is really slow, the staff are not that welcoming, and the food is all right for the price. Not the kind of place I would go out of my way for. It's in the tunnels but the Mexican food is good, plus the drinks are even better. If you work in downtown it's worth checking out during lunch. Let me also tell you it's under the JPMorgan Chase tower, which happens to be the tallest building in Texas, used to be the tallest west of the Mississippi River until last year. "Personage with Birds", is a sculpture outside on the plaza. Again, I wouldn't go out of my way, especially because the sky lobby is no longer available to the public. Definitely great for an 11 to 2:30 lunch. FYI they close at 2:30. No happy hour here. read more

I guess if Im going to try a sit down place, I should come with another person, maybe the service would improve. Food was eh, I can make better enchiladas at home. Didnt get my drink until after my food arrived. And had to ask the person who dropped my food that I had ordered a drink. Food is decent, pretty much run of the mill Tex-Mex. Nothing super stand-out with the food, but nothing to complain about either. Service is excellent. Margaritas... the trick is not getting the Maggie Rita. All the other margaritas on the menu list the specific ingredients and tend to be pleasantly potent and well mixed, so take your pick. The food menu is pretty extensive too, which is also a big plus. Spacious dining room as well. Definitely recommend for an all-purpose underground lunch joint, especially if you're looking for a rare tunnel destination that serves alcohol. read more

Here's a conveniently located spot in the Downtown Houston tunnels that offers particularly good breakfast tacos at great prices. The potato and egg tacos are my go-to here as two small tacos (or one large) cost only $2.14 inclusive of taxes and that's actually a lot of food. The value for your dollar is certainly nice and so is their welcoming customer service. As a bonus, the restaurant has a big seating area with solid dine-in ambience, giving it an edge over the look of some hole-in-the wall breakfast taco spots around the town. I have heard that their lunch portions are equally generous and the menu is rather vast too. On the flip side, they don't offer varying specials on their menu and the food doesn't taste extra-ordinary enough to stand out amidst the competitive eatery landscape in the city. The service is decent, not super fast but not too slow (unless your group is over 8, seems like the wait is long). The food is good. The fajitas, quesadillas, enchiladas, chicken tacos are all good. The portions are pretty heafty. The refried beans and rice, ehhh so so but everything else is very tasty, flavorful, not dry or overly chewy. It's way better than Ninfa's by far. This place was pretty decent and I can see why even at a late weekday lunch hour (around 1pm), there were still quite a few people eating/waiting to be seated. I went with a group of about 5 guys and we waited for about 15 minutes for a table. First thing that struck me was the green salsa with the chips was very very good. We asked for seconds and probably could have gotten full just from eating them. I ordered the special which was a fajita burrito for 7.99. It was a monster of a thing that you couldn't eat with your hands. Well, I guess you could eat it with your hands but I'd imagine then you'd get it all over your button down shirt. The tasted well-marinated beef fajita meat was tender and easy to eat and the rest of the filling in the burrito matched it pretty well. My only gripe was that the meat seemed to be focused entirely on one side of the burrito while the rest of it was hidden on the other. I was lucky enough to start eating from the meat side but my buddy who got the same thing had finished half his rice and beans before he got any meat. The service was decent despite looking a little flustered by the number of customers. Split checks were welcome and we were greeted coming into the restaurant and thanked when leaving. Not surprised that the location on Sage Road closed (and has an overall 2-star rating). Am surprised that the owners felt the concept would work in a different location..2 different locations in Houston, in fact (this one in the tunnels, and one near the I-10/Washington Corridor). I've been here a couple times (gave it the benefit of the doubt to return after the first time), and had a few catered lunches from here. The service is okay at the restaurant (located under the Chase buildling, in the spot across from Alonti where Ninfa's used to be) and the delivery is hot & prompt if you get catering. Everybody has been very nice & friendly when I've visited. However, the food is where Maggie Rita's is really subpar. With all the good Tex Mex options in Houston, I am not sure how this franchise will last. The queso tastes like they opened a can of bulk nacho cheese/velveeta from Sam's club, and stirred in a couple peppers/onions. The refried beans are someone runny and lacking flavor. The rice is dry and does not even look appealing. The only thing potentially worth eating if you come here are the fajitas. I don't eat meat, so can't personally vouch, but they seemed to get the least amount of negative feedback from my friends/coworkers/dining companions. If you work closeby and don't want to venture far, or are looking for something hot & cheap in the tunnels, Maggie Rita's is the place for you ($5 lunch specials do sound appealing.. at first). But I'd recommend taking your money somewhere else if you want to enjoy the food you consume (and potentially save your stomach from getting the grumbles later in the day..). read more

Our server pretty much forgot about us after we ordered drinks. We had to flag him down for the food order and for the check. This was really annoying because we only had an hour for lunch. He also forgot to bring the queso. After the entrees came out, and he didn't mention the queso, I just told him to cancel it. He didn't even bother to apologize. My co-workers and I ordered 3 of the enchilada lunch specials ($5.95 each). One beef and two cheese enchilada plates without beef gravy. Upon arriving to pick-up my lunch, I was able to receive it almost instantly. After coming back to my office, we discovered the cheese enchiladas had beef gravy, upon which I immediately called the restaurant back so they could correct my order. I was placed on hold and spoke with atleast 2 different people who said they could not replace my order because the manager was not present; then they said I failed to let them know that I did not want beef gravy, and then said it would cost me extra, and ultimately that they would replace my order as long as I brought the 2 enchiladas back (with the beef gravy). Now, I don't know what they intended to do with those enchiladas but I wouldn't be surprised if they use them for the next customer's order. Once, I arrived to pick up my second order, I was told by the manager that everybody makes mistakes and I may not have given the order correctly in the first place. My co-worker and I are vegetarian and always ask to take off the beef gravy whenever I order cheese enchiladas. I said it would be fine as long as you replaced my order instead of trying get defense with customers. I wasted time and experienced terrible customer service at this restaurant. Their food is average but the customer service is not worth it!!!! P.S. My co-worker with the beef enchiladas said she could probably make better ones at home. I walk by this place all the time but only went there recently for a new colleague's welcome lunch (she picked this place!). I am a vegetarian but usually in Mexican restaurants that's not a big problem. The ambience and service was acceptable - no complaints - but the food was a big disappointment. I ordered the spinach enchilada and it was pretty bad. They had just steamed the spinach and stuck it inside the enchilada with a ton of melted cheese on top - no seasoning, nothing! It was the worst enchilada I had eaten. I am hoping it is no longer on the menu because I can't seem to find it in their online lunch menu. The even bigger shock was the sheer amount of salt that was in the small bowl of black beans that came with my order. I had no idea you could stuff that much salt in so small an order of black beans. If you went swimming in that bowl, you would probably float due to the density of the salt. If you ate the whole thing, you would live forever because your entire body would be preserved like cured meat given the amount of salt you would ingest. I am not even kidding, it was that salty. Overall, it was highly underwhelming. I am certainly not going back. read more

We used to order breakfast tacos for our firm on a regular from this place. Till this past week we noticed there was a charge on the receipt for orange juice priced at $19.99. They charged us $20 for ONE gallon of orange juice...Tropicana. Made some lame excuse about not buying bulk. Even still OJ is no more than $6 a gallon. What cost $20 a gallon? This last even was for 30 people and they sent ONE gallon of OJ for $20. Just crazy. We've decided not to order from this sub par establishment anymore. read more

To be fair I did not eat here. I tried to go to Maggie Rita's last night. I went downtown and drove around in circles looking for it. When I couldn't find it I called them not once but 3 separate times, I even pulled over and called, they never answered their phone so I gave up and left. I have had proper lunch here a couple of times which was average. However, their express $5 lunch menu is a god sent for someone like me, who works in the neighboring building and doesn't have much time during lunch. The proportions are also quite generous. I can usually just call and place my order for either enchiladas or chicken salad (which are all great for 5 bucks!) and run down to pick it up in about 10 minutes. They also include a whole bag of tortillas and two dips with each order. Fast, cheap, and good. Can't beat that! read more

Horrible wait service, we were served by a waiter named Miguel. He rushed us to order drinks and food. The restaurant was not busy and I was there with one other person around 1:30p. He got one of our orders wrong and when we tried to correct him, he commented that he was "too busy for this". I was blown away at how blatantly rude he was, we told him to take the food back and we would not be eating there. While taking the food back, the manager asked him the problem, and did not even come over to the table to apologize or get to the bottom of what happened. I will NEVER eat here again. Working through lunch and decided to try their "to go" menu. Got the taco lunch, and was extremely disappointed (and mad)! The large corn tacos had a teaspoon or less of taco meat, about four pieces of shreaded lettuce (if you can count, not enough), a literally a drop of cheese! After eating the meal, all I felt was air in my stomach and a hint of corn. I did receive a large bag of chips and salsa that equates to about two tablespoons -- not even enough to treat one taco, let along two and the chips! He also sent my friend on a wild goose chase to speak with the manager. When the manager was notified of the money issue, he did not resolve it to her satisfaction. i have been to maggieritas several times and every time it is been really good , i had the vegi fajitas the were just right flavorful and spicy, my friend had the pescado mexicana which was just as good. from the minute you walk in till you leave you are well taken care of . with all the choices in the tunnel this place stands out as one of the best. the only reason i did not give them 5 stars is you have to wait for a table , but i suppose that is a good problem to have. read more
