She thought the beets might have been canned. The waiters were nice and polite and seemed to be trying hrs but, again, missing the mark. We came into the restaurant with a party of 8. They were not busy and we could see many empty tables. We waited 30 minutes to be seated. It took an additional 10 minutes once we were seated for a server to come to our table to give us menus and take our drink orders. Once we ordered, it took an additional 20 minutes for our food to arrive and it came out 2 or 3 plates at a time. By the time the last two meals arrived, the people who had already been served were finished eating, and three of the eight meals were not what was ordered. Magleby's is a classic! We started dinning at Magleby's when it was first opened in Provo so many years ago. We enjoyed meeting Doc as he greeted customers with fresh hot breadsticks. I am a self confessed food snob and a total foodie. When I visited friends in this area they mentioned this establishment as the only fine dinning establishment in the area. So I ate there twice while visiting. The first occasion I ordered the prime rib, medium rare towards the rare side, described as served with garlic mashed potatoes and seasonal vegetables. I don't care for garlic mashed potatoes so I asked for an option other than garlic mashed and they offered a roasted potato medley. When my prime rib arrived it was at best cooked medium well, but the bigger problem was that the prime rib was served overtop a non seasonal vegetable medley that primarily consisted of bell pepper. I do not order prime rib to taste bell pepper, I order prime rib to taste prime rib. Plus no way would bell pepper be considered a seasonal vegetable at this time of year. You do not use an aromatic vegetable unless you are intending to make the entire dish taste of that aromatic vegetable. Also none of the rest of the vegetables would have been considered seasonal either. I ate the prime rib but was not happy with it and did let the server know that the cook should be told that number 1, his seasonal vegetable medley was not seasonal and number 2, never use an aromatic vegetable in a dish unless you intend for the entire dish to taste of that vegetable. One of my dining companions had a dish that looked appealing, a filet served in a brandy-pepper sauce. So I was a little more hesitant when it came time to select desserts. I am not a big fan of chocolate and their most famous dessert is their chocolate cake. I did spot buttermilk pie and this is one of my favorite desserts from childhood and allegedly the entire menu is suppose to be based on some grandma's cookbook. So I tried to order it but they were out of it. The table ended up deciding to try and share the chocolate bread pudding and it was absolutely delightful. Returned another night, this time I ordered the filet in brandy-peppercorn sauce, no pesky bell peppers on the plate. The filet was cooked to an appropriate temperature; however, the sauce had little to none of the taste of brandy and was more of a sugar-peppercorn sauce. I have found that in Utah most folks like their meat sweet which is something I will never understand. The sauce was not unpleasant it just wasn't what was advertised. So after eating I was so excited to get to try their buttermilk pie, I was so disappointed. It was in no shape or form a buttermilk pie, it was more of a corncake in a pie shell. We ended up eating more chocolate bread pudding. The two stars are for the service which was exceptional, Stormie took great care of us and the chocolate bread pudding. I don't know if granny's recipes are not being carefully followed or if she just couldn't cook well to start with. read more

The food here is way overpriced but it is good. Not amazing, but good! We can't get enough of the bread they serve to start. Although not pictured, my favorite is the steak salad. Other things I have tried have been almost super delicious, but just not quite there, such as the Gourmet Shrimp and the muffuletta. We do like the burgers and the chicken Marsala was pretty yummy! This place is good for a fun night out but it's nothing incredible as a whole. We do love every dessert we have tried though! This is not the same Magleby's as it was many years ago. It's sad to say that the quality of their food and service has gone downhill. I had been to the older Magleby's restaurant in Provo several years ago, and the dining was far superior to my first visit to this Springville location. I met my small group for an early dinner, so the restaurant wasn't crowded yet for the dinner rush. I was a little late, so my server took my drink order with our entrée orders. I sat patiently waiting for that drink, but it never came. The side salads arrived, still no drink. Then the entrees arrived and still no drink, and that's when I reminded the server. She apologized..no real harm done, just a bit parched. We all dug into our entrees and at first sight mine didn't look bad, but looks can be deceiving. I dove into the salmon, not much of it at all, and it was bone dry - overcooked. Then I tried the small shrimp...tasteless, no favor - obviously not fresh or from frozen. The clincher was the 1.5 cups of noodles it was all sitting on...undercooked, not tender, too chewy. I couldn't even finish it, and that is rare for me. I didn't even bother to get the leftovers boxed, because I didn't even want it later. Thankfully, I had a late lunch, so I didn't leave the restaurant too hungry; however, I was very underwhelmed. And before I forget, I also need to mention that our server never offered to refill our drinks. In fact she only asked us once during our 1.5 hour visit if we needed anything. Sub-par service, and it looked like she only had two total tables. Like I mentioned earlier, the quality of their product has gone downhill over the past fifteen years. Probably the fanciest restaurant you'll find in Springville. I was amazed how popular it is for just mediocre food. I got the ahi tuna salad, and though it came out beautifully, and the flavor lacked. The dressing was too sweet and it needed more salty components the counteract that. No my salad was not the only plain dish we tried. We also purchased the bruschetta, fried shrimp plate, and chocolate cake. The highlight was probably the cake: it was moist and rich like a cake should be. It's a really great MILK chocolate cake, but if you're looking for a deeper darker chocolate or a "wow" factor, you ain't gonna find it. But if you're into classics, you'll like this cake. We chose this restaurant based on yelp reviews. Location is easy to find, right on the corner.. Our party of 5 adults and 2 children were seated promptly. The staff was extremely nice and helpful. The decor was very beautiful and there was even live music. Everybody's orders were awesome. No complaints whatsoever. Would most definitely recommend. Unremarkable.... We visited Magelby's on a busy weekend, with a large group...which can lead to challenges for even the best dining establishments. The serving staff, while slow, and at times, unresponsive, were not the root of our decision to not return to this establishment in the future. A portion of our group did not receive drink service, which led to the decision to pass over appetizer courses, as it was apparent service would be challenging. The salad course was extremely slow, with some of our guests not receiving their salads...and this is when it became apparent the kitchen is either not staffed and/or experienced in managing a busy evening. The main courses were presented in a timely manner to most of our guests, while one waited an additional 10 minutes for their main course. To set the expectations...the vast majority of our group consider Olive Garden to be great dining. Whereas a couple of us have very discerning tastes and expectations...tempered for the particular establishment. It was alarming when our other guests began to share unfavorable comments on the presentation, lack of flavors and the corresponding lack of depth to the food. At the price point of "market price", one can fairly expect an amazing ribeye, prepared properly and cooked at the correct temperature. Unfortunately, the preparation was disastrous and lacking any notable flavors. The steak was cooked to the incorrect temperature as well, thereby muting any flavors which may have existed. The second ribeye was also cooked to the incorrect temperature, albeit to cold and the guest would not eat it...in part due to the lackluster flavors. One guest, who is normally very reserved, with low expectations, shared that the chicken fried steak was nearly inedible, and lacked any semblance of flavor. When provided a portion of a ribeye, the guest stated "the chicken fried steak is better than that." Two guests whom ordered other meat plates also received meals that were cooked to the incorrect temperature. The floor manager did present appetizers at no charge due to the lengthy delays in the beginning. While appreciated, the appetizers were served within seconds of the main courses. The appetizers were also very lacking of flavor. Overall, the serving staff did the best they could. The primary, and glaring issue is a kitchen that is either ill equipped, understaffed or simply does not have the necessary skill set to prepare plates properly, or manage tickets accordingly. The design, decor, ambiance, menu and price point leads one to believe they are dining in a mid-scale establishment, unfortunately the kitchen is not able to support the front of the house. read more

Blah! I have eaten here 4 times. The first was good (way back when they'd barely opened) but felt pricey for the quality. The 2nd time was okay, but the service was poor. The third time my chicken tasted fishy. One of my friends tried it and agreed. They took it back and replaced the meal and it still tasted like fish. Maybe the grill needed cleaning??? The last time was with my same friend for her birthday. I got a meatless fish to be safe. It was bland and my salad was wilted. 3 strikes. Great atmosphere, went on a Friday night but didn't have to wait to be seated, was greeted right away and was told the specials, placed our orders and food came about 15 to 20 minutes later. Was given a basket with some very unusual rolls, didn't really care for them, our entrees were very delicious and seasoned to perfection. Wait staff was very attentive and kind. The only thing I have to be negative on is the absolutely annoying LOUD piano playing. It was so loud it was hard to carry on a conversation without having to raise our voices. My sister-in-law has a dairy allergy and we made it very clear that they needed to grill her sandwich in only olive oil. They brought it back and she took one bite. It was definitely not olive oil. Update: I heard their prime rib had been upgraded recently, so my wife and I stopped in to check out the Grotto. What did I think? Yes, it was excellent--a perfect medium rare, juicy, tender, great temperature, good crust, not too much fat, good size (twelve ounce) excellent au jus and horseradish . . . The rolls were better than my last visit as well. The cake was good, as always, and the service was quiet, helpful, and knowledgable. We went early so it wasn't too busy, and were able to chat with the chef about our favorite local restaurants, fois gras, whether the French Laundry is worth the price of admission, Gordon Ramsey, etc. All in all, a great time and great food. Tip: One note, however. While I liked the Mediterranean onion soup, it was pretty salty. Next time I'll opt for the salad when I'm getting something like Prime Rib to contrast the savory flavors with something crisp and fresh. read more

Magleby's is probably the nicest restaurant in Springville and one of the nicest in the greater Utah County area. They have a great lunch menu with daily specials and lots of different options. I've eaten here a few times and generally been pleased with my food. The portions are generous, usually leaving plenty to take home as leftovers. Sometimes the service can be a little slow but I think that is more of a management and scheduling problem that could easily be fixed. As far as price is concerned Magleby's is by no means cheap, but I think given the price and the portions they offer a decent value for your bucks. read more
