This is a hometown diner in the cute town of Alpine Texas. They serve breakfast and lunch. We stopped in for breakfast- The menu has the regular fare, with a Tex-Mex twist. Eggs, biscuits and gravy, pancakes - but also breakfast burritos. Service is fast and friendly. Laid back cowboys fill the cafe with friendly banter. Stop in for a bite- you will enjoy it.

I was hon-gree,and needed food. Out front: Police Railroad Border patrol A perfect indication that this is the place. It in fact was the place and I found it sitting in the Mcdonald's parking lot across the street looking at Yelp. No explanation is needed. Great Food, Atmosphere, Prices, service, and a vanishing Decor...... Go!!!

#2 plate. Eggs, bacon or sausage (not sure why they included both) , potatoes and toast
    Trina W.

Seat yourself upon arrival. We both got the plate with eggs, one meat of choice, potatoes and with either a biscuit or toast. For some reason they put a piece of sausage on my plate even though it only comes with either bacon or sausage. Eggs were scrambled and well done, the potatoes had good flavor but some pieces weren't quite cooked all the way. Ordered the oatmeal for our toddler which was supposed to have come with toast but it never made it to our table. Overall average food, not bad for the price. It stayed busy the whole time we were there.

If you're ever in Alpine Tx you have to eat here! Everything is great! It doesn't matter what time of day and the service is amazing! They are professional, kind and if you're not sure what you want just ask them they will order for you lol! And if they are busy help yourself to the coffee, tea or soda refills! They don't mind at all and we absolutely didn't mind getting our own refills to help them out! We went on vacation and even though we stayed in hotels in other towns close by we drove to Alpine to eat! The restaurant is family owned and the ambiance is fitting for a small town feel!

This place had such a great breakfast. We were on our way back from Big Bend national Park and stopped by here and the weather was crappy and rainy and the service was great! The food was good and I love that this is a family owned restaurant and the coffee mugs were totally random and we really enjoyed our meal here .

Stopped by after going to the Davis Mountsin State Park, worth the drive over. Best burgers!!

I don't remember Cow Dog being here before so after driving by a few times and deciding I could do better than McDonald's as I was leaving town, I dropped in to see what they had to offer. The cashier was friendly and when her credit machine wouldn't work after a bit and all I had was $8 cash, she was gracious and gave me what I wanted at a dollar discount. Extremely reasonable prices for the caliber of breakfast burrito I received. I got the bounty burrito and it was definitely worth the wait! Packed full of roasted potatoes, freshly sautéed bell peppers, chunks of breakfast meat and flavorful egg I was bummed I was leaving and wouldn't be able to enjoy another one on a different day. There's ample inside seating and even more patio seating. There's free street parking, but take into account it's on a one way so plan accordingly. I think people might pass it often because there was a sign on the other one way back to remind you where to turn. I hope this place lasts a long time like all my other favorites up there. Support local businesses when you travel through because you never know what simple delights you'll enjoy unless you try.

The first time I went to check it out I was offput by the QR code ordering nonsense. The employees were completely locked to their phones doomscrolling and it was difficult to get anyone's attention. Food was pretty weak, but acceptable for a diner. Price was ok. Then tonight I thinks to myself, I can't sleep, I should try that diner again - so I go out there at 1:30a and all the employees are hanging out in the parking lot playing with a car and tell me the diner is closed. We were looking for a nice place to have dinner while staying in Alpine, TX. This fit the bill!…read more The restaurant is in a yellow house with an "R" at the top. There was an American Flag and a Texas flag flying out front. We walked in and waited for someone to greet us and seat us. After we were at our table, drink orders were taken. When our water was brought out, we were also given some Honey Pecan Biscuits with butter. They were warm and I liked the pecans in it! Hubby & I shared everything. We started with a cup of Jalapeño and Cilantro Soup. It's a cream based soup. I couldn't detect much of any heat from the Jalapeños and the cilantro was pretty much hidden. Maybe a sprinkling of fresh cilantro on top would have made it more pronounced. It also needed to be served hot. We then got the 14oz Ribeye which came with mashed potatoes & green beans. This was a great plate of food! It came out hot! The person who brought it out waited until we cut into it to see if it was acceptable. We've never had any staff person do that for us before! It was a little under done on one side, but the other was perfect. We almost finished the plate. It was delicious! Lastly, we got the Chocolate Bread Pudding Tamale. It comes wrapped in a corn husk that it is cooked in. You remove it and eat the bread pudding. It was gummy in a good way, as hubby described it. It needed the fresh strawberries & ice cream that came on the plate. We really enjoyed our dinner! Our server, Jordan, was very efficient & made it a nice experience! We probably won't travel this way again, but if we did, we would definitely return!

The guacamole was house made but it did lack some flavor. It needed a punch of garlic and some salt. Only thing I could add was the salt from the table. Otherwise it was good and chunky.
