Wow! I did not expect this kind of food in Alpine, TX. We got the three "burritos" and they were all delicious! They weren't even burritos though bc as you can tell from the pics they were so packed that they couldn't even roll it up!!!! The pancake was so light and fluffy . The service was so fast and everything was hot. The restaurant itself was clean and nicely spaced out. Most definitely will be back for some yummy burritos and pancakes! read more

Ate here most days while in the area again recently. Breakfast is still excellent and a good value. The burgers are great, but the Green Chicken Enchiladas are really excellent and I highly recommend them. If you like spicy salsa and good chips, make sure to add them to your meal. The place can get super busy but the staff does a great job of handling everyone an making sure to get orders taken and keeping up with all the craziness. read more

Really nice and quaint place. Came in from out of town headed to Big Bend. Found this to be the only place In town with 5 stars. Came in and had the Fajita Special (Beef) and chips. The server was super friendly and helpful. The food came out surprisingly faster than we thought (good thing). The Fajitas were on point all the way around. Just wished you got more than one tortilla, which I asked for a second one and the nice server was happy to bring me another. The only thing that made my visit to this place annoying was this family of 3 kids, mom and grandma that could not control their screaming kids (they weren't toddlers, more like 4-5 yo) and apparently are regulars. read more

Hanging out in Alpine while sitting at a local bar, a gentleman from San Antonio and I struck up a conversation about where to eat breakfast. Me asking if there was any place in town that had the best breakfast tacos. His reaction and response was quite surprising. "It's burritos around here; no tacos" ala Yankee land. We're in West Texas for gawd sake! I come from the breakfast taco capitol of the world aka Austin. You know, shit Austinites say possibly more than HOOK "EM? Dude, lets get some tacos. SO, Magoo's does have burritos. But, about two down from the top of the menu is a two egg taco. Four bucks and change with cheese. An eight inch tortilla instead of the usual sixer. The first morning my kid hoovered the entire sausage, egg, and cheese creation. First day, I ended up with an off menu Red Chili Pork dish with two eggs over easy, refried beans, and potatoes. Only complaint, diced boiled taters. Throw them spuds on the flat top and give them some love! Next morning, I ordered the same SEC taco the boy had the day before. We have been trying to eat at this place for a couple of years. Let me just say that the hours posted for all the restaurants in this town are suspect. You really have to be persistent to eat at any of these places. We finally got lucky on our second attempt this week. We walked in and got the only table that was open. The waitress was very friendly and showed up with hot coffee & 3 cups. My wife and daughter knew exactly what they wanted, but I had questions. After discussing options with the waitress she recommended the biscuits and gravy. I took her advice. She came back later and told me that they were down to their last biscuit, so she offered to throw in an order of bacon. Who could argue with that? The breakfast was really good. The waitress was very friendly and accommodating. Will definitely go back when in the area (hopefully will find them open). read more

Mediocre factory food. The burger looked like they weren't even trying. I took a few bites of my friends' enchilada plate and it tasted like a microwave dinner. Every thing tasted and looked like they were cutting corners. This was a family owned restaurant and don't let the name fool you. I thought it was American food, and although they do serve American food they also have really good mexican food. We had the Magoo breakfast burrito and man was it good. I couldn't finish it as much as I wanted to. As we walked out I saw someone's chicken fried steak and it look delicious. I ate here during the cowboy poetry festival, and like the first review had wonderful food. I had the chicken fried steak, which came out tender and yummy. My parents had the fried catfish which had a great cornmeal batter on it. Even my picky uncle loved it. We have only eaten there once so I can't talk about the consistency of the good food, but the time we went it was great. **Apparently I started this review 9 years ago and never finished it. we still love Magoos. Stopped in here on our way to Big Bend Ranch Park and I'm pleased to say they followed COVID-19 rules, marking off tables so customers weren't too close, wiping off menus, disposable utensils, and even the cooks were wearing masks. My wife and I love mom and pop places like this, and try to only eat at that type of establishment whenever we travel. We both had the enchilada plate, me the green, and her the red. It was good stuff. We didn't have the cheese fries, but apparently we should have. This guy named Ronnie had them, and he told the waitress that they were so good, that he'd fix their AC in the restaurant for free...FREE. I mean, does that not sound like some good fries? I had a breakfast here. Solid normal breakfast items served the way they should be. Just an old food dive type of place. Locals, rancher and townsfolk eat here. All solid, clean and fast. Came here to get some lunch while we were on a trip this past week. We walked in and you pick your own table. We sat and were greeted right away with menus. The waitress was polite and quick. We ordered the chicken taco plate and a bean and cheese burrito and it came out pretty steadily. The tacos were delicious, but falling apart some. The salsa served with it gave a nice kick for sure! We have seen magoo's grow and shift over years. It is an excellent local hole in wall kind of place. They know and love their locals. And the locals love them. Their parking situation has not sadly gotten better. But they did work on it and it improved some. And they have shifted their staff around to more appropriate for the person jobs. They are always friendly even when slammed. They are hands down one of the best breakfast options in town. Also their burgers are excellent. My teenager loves their pancakes and frito pie. My husband is a fan of the magoorito for breakfast and the chicken fried steak with green sauce for lunch. I personally am a fan of their huevos rancheros and hamburgers. Sadly I don't have any pics to add. But magoos is worth a stop when you are in the area. I also understand their menudo is excellent. read more

They didn't tell me about the credit card surcharge until they'd already run the card. I asked them to void the transaction so I could pay cash and they were unable to do so.
