This place looked good online so my boyfriend and I decided to try it when we were in town with our dog. We got there on Sunday around 11 and put our name on the waitlist. With the dog we could only eat outside which was fine. You could follow along to see where your name was on the list. We ended up waiting over an hour instead of the quoted 45 minutes, but it was obvious that people were still outside and they brought our dog a bowl of water. It was all good. When we were seated they were all out of the baked goods. My boyfriend got the breakfast sandwich with greens and I got the green bowl with sausage. It was so good!! They also came around regularly with water and ice tea refills. I would definitely be back. My only suggestion would be that the restaurant not seat people unless your whole party was present. There were two 6 person tables filled with 2-3 people for over half an hour (one table almost an hour until the whole table arrived) while the people waited for the entire party to arrive. A big tip is that they open at 9 am on Saturday mornings, there will be a line starting at 8:30 so if you're in a rush get there early and wait in line! We got in line at 8:40 and sat down as soon as they opened and the service was super friendly and speedy. I ordered the iced brown sugar latte - HIGHLY recommend! Not too sweet but the perfect kick. If you are a local to Harrisonburg, or are just passing by, Magpie is a MUST stop spot for breakfast or lunch. I wanted to wait a little to post my review for this location and give it multiple chances before giving my opinion or writing a review. Let's talk about the aesthetics first and foremost. Starting with the outside appearance, large beautiful white building with 3 garage door for a more open dinning area with outside patio seating. The inside is also white with black accents a splashes of green from the live plants that they have around the store. The bar area is an open concept with granite countertops with extremely cute rounded hanging lights. The restaurant in general has a very clean, modern style that would draw in customers. Moving to food! Every visit, whether it be often or not, it will always be in experience due to the fact that the menu is periodically changing! Every plate has so much flavor and the range is quite large. We have a mixture of southern comfort food, with biscuits and gravy to fried green tomatoes, the classic breakfast, egg Sammy and stack of pancakes, to more modern and unique takes of brunch choices. They is also a bakery that is affiliated with the restaurant where all of the bread and pastries come from, and the bakery itself is worth visiting. The staff is extremely nice and welcoming, and you can see that everyone is working hard. The area is really bright with natural lighting from all of the windows and the open garage door concept. I really enjoy this location to the point that it has been included I to my morning routine when I have the time. Unfortunately I think the place was short staffed because it did take a while to even get greeted and waters for the table. I think we were all hangry, but 30 mins after sitting down we didn't even have our drinks yet. After getting the drinks we felt better then the food came out a little after. I got the bananas foster waffle which seemed like a frozen waffle topped with an insane amount of whipped cream, a couple bananas and something gritty. My son's dish was extremely salty. The worst of all, my son's girlfriend's food had a hair in it, which she was too shy to say anything about until we had left. We arrived around brunch time on Sunday, and were told that the wait for 2 people was about 1-1.5 hours (actually took about 1 hr 10 minutes), and we decided to just wait for it since we already traveled there. I ordered the Apple-rosemary BEC (bacon, egg, cheddar) sandwich and a freshly-squeezed orange juice. The orange juice was really good, and even though it was $5 for a cup it's fine to try at least once. My sandwich was good, but the biscuit was lathered in butter and a bit too heavy for me, and the simple greens it came with were indeed very simple. There was a light sprinkle of dressing on the greens, but it would have been much better with more dressing, or maybe some dried cranberries or pecans. My boyfriend ordered the harvest bowl and a la carte sausage + eggs, both of which he enjoyed. We ate outside since the wait was slightly shorter for outdoor seating, so it was our choice, but it was chilly and windy and we rushed to finish our food to get out of the cold. They have some heat lamps by the outdoor tables, but they didn't really do anything against the wind. Overall, the food was pretty good and a nice place to stop by while we visited Shenandoah National Park. Prices were also fairly reasonable too. However, I thought a few aspects of my food could have been improved, and although the food was good, I probably wouldn't wait 1-1.5 hours again (though I'd come again if there was no wait). read more

Our last morning of our girls trip so we decided to have brunch here! Arrived on a Friday around 10am. We had a party of 2 and were told a 35 minute wait, but it was closer to 10 min! We were seated at the bar. I ordered their hot honey biscuit and the honey was delicious. The house vinaigrette on the salad was perfect and light. My friend ordered the French toast with potatoes and thought both were phenomenal! I ordered 2 different lattes, I think the coconut mint was my favorite. Before heading home, we decided to stop at the attached bakery. We got a croissant, sourdough, and a loaf of cinnamon bread. They even had a sample out of their brownies that I tried. They open at 9, we got there a few minutes after 8 and people started lining up about 8:25 and by the time they opened, there were probably 30 people behind us.
