I'm upgrading my rating because the staff here is so great and provides awesome service. We've taken to eating here a bit more because they're extremely accommodating and knowledgeable about gluten free requirements. One of our family members is gf and he's never gotten sick here. They can make most items gf and they take proper precautions to avoid cross contamination. The decor and furniture has all been updated recently and the ambiance is better as a result. Coming back to waitstaff, everyone is so nice and helpful. They greet you immediately and check in appropriately throughout the meal. Drinks and food are quick to arrive, even when it seems busy. They have a full bar. Plenty of parking out front, and outdoor seating available. Handicap friendly. Highly recommend this place for casual dining. read more

Outstanding food and service. We are from the South Bay where Mexican food is everywhere, but after trying the fake so-called Mexican food served in Danville, San Ramon, and Dublin it's great to see that here in the Danville/Alamo area we have a restaurant like Maguey to enjoy. read more

This place is a total gem of a find. I was in town for a work event so stopped here to grab some food beforehand. I walked in and the place was pretty cold so I mentioned it to the server on staff. He quickly turned the heat up in the restaurant for me--I'm not used to such a quick response. Major brownie points there! I ended up switching tables a couple times as the group I invited to join me continued to grow before they arrived. The server helped me move each time which I was super grateful for. While waiting, he brought out their complementary chips and salsa. I usually do not indulge in chips though made an exception that day. They were amazing! The chips are thin and crispy, and the salsa is very flavorful with a solid kick. We all ended up getting the burrito bowl with black beans. It not only looked amazing, it tasted amazing too! Nice remodel. My wife is Mexican and we eat here a lot because the food is excellent and it is hard to find good Mexican food in the area. The staff (mainly family of the owner) also makes the experience great. They are friendly, tentative and quick. It also is the best value in town (whether Alamo or Danville). Having been here several times I have to say that the food is consistently good, but they are short staffed so service is a little slow and inattentive. There is a sign that has been posted at the restaurant for over a year that says they are short staffed and please be patient. After this long, they should have been able to hire some help. If it wasn't for Yelp, id never would of knew this place existed, as it's tucked in a small shopping center right off the freeway with no visible signage. Food: 1. Shrimp quesadilla {4/5 stars, $14} - Delicious sautéed shrimps with caramelized veggies, pico de gallo, and guacamole. Shrimp cooked perfectly and very tasty. 2. Chicken Enchiladas green sauce {4/5 stars,$14} - Two yummy enchiladas with a spicy green chili sauce. Could you more sauce though. Served with beans and rice, both are delicious. 3. Carne Asada {4/5 stars, $16} - Large flat iron streak with beans, rice, pico de gallo, and guacamole. Really good. Streak was well seasoned and charred. Was cooked medium well though... wish was more rare. Still very delicious. Service: Friendly and prompt. Went to Maguey's last week. The fajitas were excellent! In fact, they were the best fajitas I've ever had. Everything was so fresh and tasted wonderful. This place took over from another long-time Mexican restaurant in a small strip mall in Alamo. Upon our arrival, we were promptly given chips and salsa for starters and we ordered a glass of wine and a margarita. Then we chose two combinations - the fish tacos which were excellent and cooked perfectly! The other combination was not as good as I ordered the crunchy taco and chile relleno. I enjoy a crispy taco which is newly fried and this taco was a pre store bought. The chile relleno was still frozen which tells me it is frozen to start with - not freshly prepared. They were gracious when I brought it to their attention and got a new one made. All in all, the service was good but they need to improve the food quality at least with their crispy tacos and chile relleno. read more

This restaurant replaced an awful one a few years ago. Each time I visit, the food, service and ambiance improves. When customers sit down they receive a menu, excellent tortilla chips and mild and hot salsa. Order a pitcher of margaritas and they really put tequila, liquor and real lime juice. The server will advise you of the specials and answer your questions without acting annoyed. Always nice and prompt, they bring high quality meals; my wife loves their soups. This place is doing it right! We popped in for a quick and easy lunch and Maguey delivered. We were seated outside, and it was nice and quiet in their little courtyard space. The chips and salsa were delcious. Our waitress was very courteous as we looked over the menu for the first time. The burrito was yummy. We were there at 7:30 on a Saturday night when they close at 8:00 and it was packed. I think the only reason this gem does not have a bigger following is the location.
