My husband and I tried Rico Rico Taco for the first time, and we honestly didn't know what to order at first. We both love Mexican food, but we also love trying new things! Someone from the staff came over and gave us some great recommendations and convinced us to try the flautas and the carne asada huarachito with a side of guac and chips. And wow... we're so glad she did! Everything was seriously delicious. San Ramon definitely needed a place like this! I wish I had taken pictures of our delicious and beautifully plated food, but we were enjoying it too much! We tried a vegetarian burrito, chicken bowl, 4 different types of tacos, chile relleno, horchata, lime margarita, and chips and guacamole. Our family enjoyed everything, but the chile relleno in particular is going to make Rico Rico my new go to. The other reason I would definitely come back - and recommend others come! - is the friendly and thorough service. They were slammed, but the staff adjusted and created a makeshift sort of line for those waiting for tables (it's seat yourself but would've been unpleasant and chaotic if we had to lurk around the patio and indoor dining area seeing if people were done...) The food came out in a timely manner, and someone was always ready to help. The patio was fun festive and comfortable on the Saturday we went for lunch, it was maybe in the 70s. The indoor area is small, so this may be tough with a large group if the weather is bad. (When the weather is nice like it was during our visit, we saw some people successfully seat up to maybe 12-15 people if they were willing to split up and sit outside). That said, the turnover is pretty quick, so even if you're waiting it likely won't be long. read more

Hubby and I passed by and thought it looked cute with the outside seating and peeked at the menu, it looked good. We planned to meet with my sis for lunch the following week, and I picked this spot for us to meet. We sat outside and were instructed to order on our phones, although I think you can also order at the counter inside. I would hope so, because I can definitely see the less tech-savvy crowd getting very frustrated trying to order and pay from the QR code at the table. I think some of the staff need a little additional training on how they explain horchata to customers. We're Mexican, so we know what horchata is and, more importantly, what house-made horchata tastes like vs. not. Horchata is a rice drink. You essentially soak rice & cinnamon sticks, blend, strain, and that's the base of horchata, then you add the other stuff. When I asked one of the staff if they made their horchata fresh and not from a powdered mix (which you can buy off the shelf), he told me that "horchata is **not** a rice drink." Like... how is that possible? lol. That's exactly what horchata is. lol. Idk if he knows that. My sis and I looked at each other like, what?? lol. It felt like he was telling us, the sky isn't blue while looking at said blue sky. He said they don't make it from rice because that would be a rice beverage, and the rice would get stuck in the dispenser machine. But that's not really the point. If your horchata isn't made from rice, and you're using a mix or some other preparation, that's totally fine, just say that! That's the info I was looking for but don't tell me horchata isn't a rice drink. lol. So I'm not entirely sure what they make it from then, because he couldn't answer that. My guess is an easy, quick powder mix with water. He seemed frustrated with my questions as we went back and forth and eventually said, "I'll just bring you a sample." It was watery and overly sweet, so I didn't get one, but I did appreciate him bringing me the sample. The whole interaction was just odd. And here's the funny part: as we were walking up to the restaurant, a group who had just left walked past us. I overheard a little bit of their conversation. One person asked, "What was that drink I had?" and someone else of Latina decent said, "It was horchata." Then the first person asked, "What's it made of?" and the response was, "Rice." and they were like, "oh that was really good!", which I think in the back of my mind made me accept his sample to see if it was really good. So now I'm standing there thinking... **uhhh, it should be made of rice, but apparently theirs is not?** Which is fine, but just say that. I also have a feeling it's the same type of horchata that a lot of Mexican spots serve because they all seem to taste exactly the same. Which is probably why I rarely get it. They tend to be watery and overly sweet, whereas a good house-made horchata has a completely different flavor and texture. Hubby ordered a michelada. In his words, it was decent. We ordered two burritos: one al pastor and one fish. The fish was basically a fried fish fillet. My sis got a bowl with al pastor and asada. We all agreed the al pastor was on the salty side, so they were a little heavy-handed w/the salt that day. I contemplated on sending it back and probably should have but w/the salsa, it seemed to mask the salt a bit. The fish had good flavor and wasn't overly salted. I probably would've preferred that one. There was also a mix-up with the burritos. They gave hubby mine and I got his. I took a couple bites and was like, this is not al pastor. I wondered why his had a lime and mine didn't. I'm guessing the lime was for the fish. The burrito itself was a good size for the price. I didn't care for the sliced radishes and carrots on the side. The radishes looked dried out, not fresh, so I left them on the plate. I did not try the carrots. read more

This new taco spot at Bishop Ranch City Center in San Ramon is a welcomed addition. The food is fantastic, and the space is modern with a cozy patio dining area. There's just a few minor kinks they need to work out to make this a 5-star dining experience. First, their opening hours is confusing. Google, Yelp, and their website say they open at 10 AM on weekends, but they don't actually open until 11 AM. I arrived here at 10:30 AM on a Saturday and their doors were wide open, but they say they don't open until 11. Not a big deal, so I sit in their patio and it's just lovely outside. You scan the QR code on the table to order. At 11, I start to place my order, but several items were "out of stock", such as chips and gauc, chips and salsa. However, what we ordered was well prepared and very delicious. What we ordered: + Pescado Burrito - their burritos are wrapped tightly in thick foil and are almost too hot to touch. The outside of the tortilla was seared and golden. The fried fish inside extended throughout the burritos and was flakey and delicious. + Carnitas Taco - the carnitas was flattened and fried to a perfect crispness. This was our favorite. + Carne Asada taco - simply tastes like steak. + Al Pastor taco - slightly tangy and slightly sweet with a slice of pineapple on top. So good. + Chorizo taco - juicy with just a little touch of heat. + Chips - nothing special... wish we had gauc or salsa to go with it Overall, a delicious dining experience. I returned because I cannot get enough. I dream about their tacos! I decided to order for pick up via Toast. It was easy to order using Toast and my order was ready as promised. I decided to try the Al Pastor. Omgoodness!! So good. I love their taco packaging. They have custom taco cartons that hold 2 or 3 (maybe more) so that the tacos stay in their form and do not touch. They include an avocado salsa packet and a red salsa packet with your order for you to enjoy when you get to your eating destination. The comments from here are for Yelp... I called the number listed on Yelp. It is INCORRECT. It was for some security office. I searched online to look up Rico Rico's website to find their phone number. Yelp lists Rico Rico opening at 10 am. I called at 10:30 am and the answering machine said they are closed and will open at 11;00 am. Yelp does not list an online ordering option. I'm in between 3 and 4 stars on this place. The service was what made me give it 4. It was very busy when we went but they found a table for us right away everyone was super nice and welcoming. I got a pastor quesadilla great flavor on the pastor but was missing my salsa. They do have some on the table but they have no heat at all. I will ask next time to see if they have anything spicier. My fiancé got the flautas great portion. The chicken was very bland no flavor. Over all good. Deff will be back and try other items. read more

With Gregory's opening a second bakery in Crow Canyon and now Rico Rico coming to City Center, it feels like Oakland is taking over our San Ramon food desert. About a year ago, my best friend from Berkeley brought us takeout chile relleno plates from Rico Rico's Oakland location. I was hooked. So when I saw the signs announcing they were coming to San Ramon, I was beyond excited. Then came the waiting... and more waiting... and finally, soft opening day, today. You order at the counter and get a number or scan a QR code on your table. The stars aligned, and I happened to be in San Ramon (I live in SF.) Unfortunately, the one thing I had been dreaming about, the chile relleno, wasn't available. I ended up ordering the taco plate instead. My best friend swears the carnitas are the best protein on the menu when dining in, but they just weren't my favorite. That said, I still preferred them over the pollo asado. The rice and refried beans, though? Delicious. They also offer black and pinto beans, but the employee taking my order recommended the refried beans, and I'm so glad I listened. One thing that surprised me was that they still serve salsa in packets for dine-in. I remembered the packets from my takeout experience, but I wasn't expecting the same presentation when eating in the restaurant. We got the three taco combo with shrimp, fish and their famous Al Pastor. The burrito bowl with carne asada. The guacamole with chips. $40. Everything was flavorful but very heavy on the salt. Love the vibe! Indoor seating is nicely decorated and outdoor is also a vibe. Got the horchata and classic burrito carne asada with black beans. They have a variety of meats and beans (black, brown/pinto, refried). Can't go wrong with carne asada, it was seasoned well and found the burrito had a good mixture of all the ingredients. Even at the bottom it wasn't just 1 ingredient dominant. Service was fast and friendly. They gave me two salsa and both had good flavor with subtle heat to it. Went here on a Thursday night around 6 after work and it was pretty busy. But no line, I ordered takeout to take home for my hubby. He got the care asada burrito with no rice and I got 3 tacos combo - fish and chicken. Received my order in like 10 mins. Friendly and fast service. Indoor and outdoor seating plus waiting area for takeout orders. The carne asada was fresh and tender and the tortilla was freshly made. It was good but the meat was sooo salty. My tacos were so soggy because the juice to my beans were spilled all over my tacos. Seems like my order was poorly packed and messy. Fish tacos were a good size, light and crispy but soggy at the bottom from my beans. I wish there was more orange sauce on my fish too. Chicken wasn't so bad but sooo salty too. They gave me 2 options of sauces sealed in packets. One was orange which was really watery and the other one was a reallly green avocado. I prefer the avocado one. I'll come back in the future. The big plus here is the real trompo, which is hard enough to find. They also have a very large vegan menu, which is smart considering they're in san ramon. The food at Rico Rico is delicious! Their pollo asada sopes are now my favorite -- so flavorful and perfect when I want something that isn't as crispy as the flautas. The flautas are also really good -- crispy, flavorful, and they actually stay crispy! My daughter loves their quesadilla and guacamole and chips, and she's a picky eater, so that says a lot! The chips themselves are just okay, but the guacamole definitely makes up for it. My brother is vegan and loved their vegan options too! He was actually the one who knew about Rico Rico because of their Oakland location and was excited to eat here. As for the ambiance, there's limited seating inside but plenty of outdoor seating. It can be hard to grab a table when they're busy, though. On those days, I'd recommend ordering for pickup and waiting for a table to open up or finding a spot elsewhere around The Lot. What really made our last visit special was the customer service. We arrived on a Wednesday night ~ 15 minutes before closing and asked if we could still order and eat. A woman, who I believe may have been the owner or manager, welcomed us in and even told us to take our time since the employees would still be there cleaning. This meant so much because my brother and his family were visiting from out of town, we hadn't seen them in several years, and this was our goodbye dinner. Special shoutout to Juan! Even after we finished eating and were just sitting and talking, he was considerate and didn't want to interrupt our family time. Every time I come in, he's working hard, friendly, and providing great customer service. Great food and even better hospitality. Absolutely delicious! This was our second visit to Rico Rico, and it was even better than the first. The carnitas taco was incredible, and the shrimp taco had three huge, perfectly cooked shrimp. My husband said the shrimp bowl was the best he's ever had! The guacamole, chips, and avocado salsa were also amazing. Everything was fresh, flavorful, and not greasy at all. I'd buy that avocado salsa by the bottle if I could! So happy we finally have a great Mexican restaurant in City Center. Highly recommend! read more

Difficult location to find. It doesn't populate correctly on any map services. Online it says they open at 10, we get there and are rudely told the place doesn't open until 11. Basically burned 20 minutes of my lunch break for nothing. Very unprofessional and there were a bunch ants by the cash register area. read more

Crispy Carnitas as good as I've had anywhere, ingredients are fresh and balanced, great decor and reasonably priced. Should be a huge hit.

I made a serious rookie mistake and went on the second day they were open. Cashier was nice but slow. No menu board. You have to read a paper menu once you are at the register, thereby holding up the line behind you of people waiting to order. They only had a poor selection of beverages, beer or sparkling water. I ordered 2 taco combo. Grilled chicken. It arrived cold and dry. Patio is nice. Some tables are shaded, some aren't. Not sure I'd go back. For what I spent I could have gone somewhere with table service and had a better meal. read more
