I think you have to go into Maguire's knowing what you're going to get. This is a pretty casual restaurant that is on Fire Island so they're going to charge a premium for everything, while being a beach town. The view is really nice if you get to sit out on the back deck, it's really nice to sit on the water, but if it is hot, just know it's going to be hot out there as well. The food was fine, I wouldn't say it was amazing, but if I had to eat there again, I would. We got a combination of a burger, a steak dip sandwich, the lobster roll and Poké bowl. I started w clams on the half shell that were pre shucked days earlier it seemed I was born and raised in East islip a prior clammer Long Island who knows little neck clams. Maguire's is an insult to our proud clam heritage serving its customers clams this way so naturally I sent them back reluctant to order anything else but against my better judgement I ordered the steamers. I was served half a bowl of empty shells w the remaining clam sandy & broken. So I was retaliated against w my food. My wife and daughter were very unhappy w the pineapple shrimps n scallops dish and the pasta pesto. All of us said to each other how bad it was. I got home and am sick to my stomach. My husband and I came to Ocean Beach on a Sunday afternoon. We haven't been to OB in probably about 10 years so we wanted to adventure a little bit. We walked down near Maguires and we saw that they had a good crowd of people so we decided to go here for lunch. Their vibe is super casual, beachy and summery which we liked. We grabbed a seat at the bar and we were greeted by our bartender. It seemed a lot of the tables over looking the water were taken and bar was about half full. Our bartender certainly did seem understaffed, and running around. It took a while to get our first round of drinks, but they were good. As they should at $18 a piece lol. For appetizers, we asked to start with a Caesar salad, tuna tartare and clams casino, Unfortunately our appetizers took probably about 45 minutes to come out. Our bartender understood the frustration. The clams were horrendous though, we spit them out. Tuna and salad were fine. Our meals- I had ordered a burger well done and it came came out still bleeding so they had to send it back. We weren't in a rush so we didn't mind hanging out, but it is unfortunate that the food kept getting messed up. The is definitely a Family style spot with a playground next to it!! The food is decent but pricey for lobster. The 1.5 lbs lobster was $60. The kids meals were the typical fair but it is definitely a kid friendly restaurant. The kids run wild between their seats at the restaurant and the playground. If you are a parent, this is the place for you! There is outdoor seating so enjoy a glass of wine while you watch your kiddos from afar. There aren't cars and just the occasional golf cart. We were told several times during that hour and 20 minutes that our food would be out in a few minutes. I understand it was busy, but we didn't get that much food. We Recently had a very enjoyable holiday weekend meal at McGuires. We had some great apps including tuna tartar and steamed clams. We also had some super premium local oysters and top necks (clams) on the 1/2 shell. The oysters were exceptional and what you would expect from the finest seafood restaurants or high end oyster bars. Bravo! For mains we had shrimp over Tai rice served in a 1/2 pineapple. Quite good and a large portion. We also had sushi quality blackened yellowfin tuna over jasmine rice. Very good! The service was also quite good considering we were walk-ins on one of the busiest days of the year. They also have decent bar crowd. Absolutely the worst service I've experienced in a long time. We were seated outdoors at 6:15 and at 7:40 the host/manager came over (immediately after we finished dessert and paid the check) and quite curtly informed us that they normally have a 2-hour turnover for tables and she would have to ask us to leave. I politely let her know that we had only been there an hour and a half. She then rudely said she'd have to check on that, obviously not believing us, and disappeared. I realized I had texted my husband right when we were about to be seated, so I went back to show her the text and she started to raise her voice and said "I'll deal with you later" and proceeded to help the customers waiting in line. Her colleague then came over and they both acted as if we were causing a scene when in fact they were in the wrong. It was only after I explained to the colleague what happened that we got a fairly half-hearted apology. The view is wonderful and the food was fine, and the wait staff were fine too. But the host/manager set a terrible tone and don't know the first thing about hospitality, which is really unfortunate. We will never go back and would never recommend it. read more

We were staying at a Hotel in Ocean Bay Park, and we decided to take a leisure walk to Ocean Beach to dine. While in Ocean Beach, we ask a local Police Officer where we should dine, and the gentlemen recommenced Maguires. Maguire's is on the west edge of town on the bay side which provides bike racks and boat docking. We chose a outdoor patio table along the bayside so we could enjoy the sunsetting. After enjoying drinks, we ordered appetizers along with our entrée's. The fried calamari were excellent, the best I have had in a long time. Although I tempted to order one of their popular dishes; seared ahi tuna, the "drunken" pork chops, or the Alaskan king crab. I chose the Cod fish and what an excellent choice I made. After dinner, we chose to relax at their traditional wood bar to relax and enjoy the views. Maguires is a cozy comfortable laid-back restaurant which is worth the visit, and I certainly plan to return next time on the Island. read more

Once I got the salad saw the chicken looked pleasing but as I bit into it that shit was dryer than a damn popeyes biscuit. She ONLY didnt tell me untill now because they were so embarrassed and not to mention her boyfriend was made to feel so ashamed that he didn't have enough for there date.. but let's get into why they didn't have enough money, her boyfriend ordered an alcoholic beverage and he got it with nooooo ID, he gave all the money he had in his pocket and my daughter had to give more money for the tip , they were so embarrassed they didn't tell me, maybe try to ID your customers because if you did your job by asking for ID you would have received the rest of the money as a tip, good to know you serve alcohol to children! This was our first meal on Fire Island, and it was underwhelming. We arrived around 2:30 on a Saturday, and the place was very lively and fun. Inside, there is a bar and table seating, but on a nice day, most people congregate in the outdoor patio area. Despite the crowds, we only had to wait about 10 minutes for a table, during which time, we grabbed a couple of cocktails at the bar. The famed Rocket Fuel ($15.25) drink was good, but didn't taste any different than a piña colada to me (supposedly they add Bacardi 151 and Amaretto to it). The Coco Loco ($14) was very sweet and coconutty. For food, we started with a dozen oysters ($37), steamers ($20), and hot wings ($16). The oysters were fresh and delicious, but the steamers were terrible. The flesh of the steamers were completely falling apart, to the point where you couldn't pull them out of their shells without them becoming mush. The smell was not off-putting which indicates they had not gone bad, but they were definitely not in their prime. The hot wings were a peer pressure order; we saw many people noshing on them, and decided to give them a try. They were good, but nothing special. Finally, we shared the aloha tacos entree with avocado ($19.50). The 3 tacos were pretty big and tasty. The avocado add-on was a rip off at $3 for a half-filled condiment cup's amount. Takeaways? Come to Maguire's for the view, the vibes, and the drinks, but skip the disappointing food. read more

Maguire's is a staple in Fire Island. They have wonderful happy hour M- Friday and have live music on the weekends. Tasty cocktails and yummy food. I was there yesterday for an early dinner. I had the Thai chicken, a friend had clams and tuna tartare and my other friend had the pork chop, which was the star of the show. It had this amazing apple glaze and was cooked perfectly. It was paired with fingerling potatoes and I admit my other friend and I picked at her dish. My Thai chicken was decent, but a little heavy on the soy sauce but otherwise pretty good. My friend loved the seafood and tuna! I have to acknowledge our server, Doug, who was exceptional! Knowledgeable, enthusiastic and an absolute delight to talk with. Highly recommend!! We wondered around for a bit and than decided to have lunch at Maquire's. Although the restaurant was very busy we were seated quickly and sat outside on the deck . The view from the deck is truly beautiful! We were quickly seated . Our server Amanda was extremely friendly and attentive . We shared the Crispy Fried Calamari , it was perfectly fried , delicious and so tender and light . I ordered the Grilled Coriander Swordfish Sandwich Special served with fries .. $18.The fish was fresh and moist. Even though the seasoning was very mild and undetectable it was very good .The fries were average . My husband had the Caesar Salad with grilled chicken... $22. It was beautifully served , he said it was delicious but I thought it was a bit pricey for a salad . All in all the food was well prepared and tasty. Maguire's is THE place to go on Fire Island if you want a nice seafood meal while looking out over the bay. They do have some competition, but people have been lining up here every summer for years for their lobster dinners and other dishes. It is not a bargain either, but bargains are not easy to find anywhere on this island.
