Literally a shack, you can get basic simple side items or burger-type sandwiches. They did have a veggie burger option which I appreciated, along with usual burger, hot dog and fish choices. Fries, onion rings, etc round it out. There are also sweet treats like popsicles and ice cream, and there's a bar inside. The band on a Saturday evening was very good, and there was a large crowd hanging around drinking and enjoying the tunes. The Shack is literally right in between the bay and ocean, making it a perfect summer spot.

Complete disaster from start to finish. From the moment I…read morecalled to place a takeout order, it was an exercise in frustration. What should have been a 5-minute process took two phone calls and far too much patience. If you're going to have staff answering the phone, put them somewhere they can actually hear the customer. I spoke with two girls (sounded like teenagers) who had me repeat myself at least 7 times for every item I ordered. One even told the other, "I can't hear anything -- you do it." When I suggested they move somewhere quieter, the response was, "This is the quietest spot." Fine. I ordered 3 cold lobster rolls and 2 hot lobster rolls. She informed me they don't sell cold lobster rolls -- despite the fact they're clearly listed on their website. Fine again. When I finally finished the order and asked how long it would take, she just hung up on me. I called back, she recognized my wife's name, and casually told me it would be 15 minutes for 5 lobster rolls, a burger, and calamari. Odd, but fine. When we arrived, they informed us there was no calamari. We showed them the website with both hot and cold lobster rolls. The response? "Oh, I have no clue." The manager came over, and when we asked if the menu was changing, he said, "I hope so!" Not exactly reassuring. We got home (two toddlers and a baby in tow, so eating there wasn't an option) and opened the food -- and that's when it went from bad to insulting. Every roll was upside down with what little lobster there was spilling out. The bread wasn't even split open properly. We ended up scooping scraps of lobster with our fingers into the bread. For almost $200, this was an absolute embarrassment. I rarely write reviews, but this was so bad I hope a manager contacts us to make it right. In the meantime, do yourself a favor and order from literally anywhere else.

It took almost 30 minutes just to have our order taken, another 30 minutes for soup, another 30 minutes for the calamari appetizer, and yet another 30 minutes for our main dish, which was just a lobster roll. What should have been a simple meal turned into an unnecessarily long and frustrating wait. What made it worse was that our waitress didn't seem apologetic at all about how long everything was taking. In fact, she appeared much more attentive to the table next to us, who she seemed to know personally, while we were left waiting most of the time. To add to that, the water we asked for never even arrived. The experience ended on an uncomfortable note when we went to pay. Our card was flagged for possible fraud (likely because we're not from the area). While my husband was already pulling out cash to pay, a man wearing a beanie and chef jacket stood there in a pushy manner insisting we call the bank immediately while he waited. Between the extremely slow service, lack of attentiveness, and the uncomfortable payment interaction, the entire experience was frustrating from start to finish. Save yourself the trip and the time -- we should have listened to the reviews before making the drive.

Island Mermaid absolutely delivered, and then some! First off, the location could not be more perfect. Just a quick stroll from the ferry and you're basically on their sunny deck, right by the water. We lucked out with a table outside, and between the gentle breeze and the panoramic bay views, it felt like the ideal kickoff to a beachy afternoon. For lunch, we started with the Tuna Tartare Stack, which was insanely fresh and beautifully plated. The combo of avocado, mango salsa, and seasoned chips was vibrant, flavorful, and super refreshing, exactly what you want on a summer day. But the real star was the Chicken Chipotle Wrap. I don't usually get excited about a wrap, but this was honestly one of the best chicken wraps I've ever tasted. It was stuffed with juicy grilled chicken, crunchy cabbage, super-fresh pico de gallo, creamy guacamole, and the perfect amount of chipotle crema for a little kick. Everything was so well-balanced and delicious ... I'm still thinking about that wrap! Service was fantastic from start to finish. Our server was warm, friendly, and genuinely seemed to enjoy being there! Offering great menu suggestions and making sure we had everything we needed without ever feeling rushed. If you're coming to Ocean Beach for a day or just passing through, Island Mermaid is the perfect spot to pop into for lunch right off the ferry. Amazing views, excellent food, and great service...what more can you ask for?

No answer so we decided to come before opening so that it wasnt their busiest time, ordered a burger, and brought a celiac safe meal for myself. I started eating before my partner incase anyone wasnt happy with me bringing it so we could be done fast. We did have a shopping bag for my dogs essentials in the heat, and his water bottle was on the table. We brought our own two seltzers which I am assuming may not be allowed and I apologize for that. No one seemed to mind until it seems a family that ordered expensive drinks asked the owner Steve to have us move. Ofcourse, it was the one time my dog stepped up onto the seat for water, but other than that we specifically only took up the corner of our table incase anyone needed the other side. Plenty of space, and dog is very friendly. Steve couldve asked nicely but was incredibly rude. Gestured at me sort of aggressively and said "you cant be doing this". I told him about restrictions and he said "I dont care i only have 4 tables'". When leaving, I saw an open table. I get it, ok, but just be nicer and don't make a scene. 2 stars because burger was ok and the views are great. Big fan of Little Gull Cafe, you can bring a really good coffee from Nice Place if there is a wait, and their burger is 5/5!!
