I made a long trip tonight to finally try this place seeing the praises it has before heading to the Galleria for some nighttime holiday shopping. I ordered the Chicken Tikka Masala and it was very delicious and unique in its own way with an authentic style. The chicken pieces were smoky with good charbroil flavor and amount. The gravy was dense in texture, sweet, kinda spicy and kinda tangy in a distinct way. It seemed to have a good amount of heavy cream in it or something. The herb flavors used in it were noticeable and mixed well with the flavor types I mentioned to make it even more interesting. The service from the owner's son was very welcoming, friendly and efficient. The prices are great here imo too. The curry came with free side of rice and with my drink included it was twenty bucks on the dot for the whole meal. read more

Picked up some take out food. The service was quick and good. The owner came out to greet. They are under a new management now, so the free drink on check-in is no longer valid. But she still honored it. As for the food, the Eggplant bharta was amazing. Highly recommended. Their parathas were also soft and fresh, and huge in size. Loved their plain parathas the best. The lassi was kinda average. Have had much better. Same with the paneer curry. Plus the mutter paneer was milder than mild for the medium we ordered, so if you like medium, I guess you should probably say hot But overall a good experience, and we will definitely be back soon for more! read more

This place has the best saag paneer ever! It was an honor to even be allowed to eat this delicacy. Seriously, I ate two plates of saag paneer. One evening last week, I started craving Indian curry cuisine, and Lo! I found Gourmet India in the neck of my woods. I kind of grazed through their menu online, to see if they carried beef products, as a lot of them do not. This place does not carry beef products (religious reasons). The parking lot has plenty of spaces, and we were greeted immediately upon entrance, and seated. Our waiter came and took our drink orders. We opted for punjabi samosas for appetizer, a whole tandoori chicken for main course and a chicken biryani also. The samosas came, and I was very disappointed with the size. Usually that kind of samosas are pretty big in size with bunch of stuffed potatoes, but these were petite lil thangs!. The tandoori chicken looked pretty delicious and it was sizzling when brought to our table. There were plenty of sautéed onions accompanied with lemon wedges and the chicken was cut up in like 4-5 piece, nicely displayed on the bed of onions. It tasted ok. It was lacking salt, and needed more seasoning. I have had better tandoori chicken at several other establishments. The chicken biryani was ok too. Unfortunately, I could taste the seasoning with every bite and so the biryani ended up being too over bearing. Also, there was not enough chicken mixed in with the rice. While other folks may still consider it acceptable, I have definitely had better biryani and tandoori at other places. I still recommend for first timers to try the semi blander version of tandoori, before they work their way up to the spicy, sooo seasoned version. Other than that, service was fine. The manager on duty was also waiting tables, so it was all hands on deck. I just found out that this establishment has a group on offer available too. read more

The food was amazing. I've always enjoyed trying new places. Since I've had curry before in a few places and enjoyed it I was nervous about eating in a place I haven't had been before but I'm glad I did. That curry was some of the best I've had! I really enjoyed the service as well. If I need the curry to be spicer they could do that for me with ease and without hesitation. I ordered food from here from Doordash. I think this is a new restaurant (newish) located in a strip mall. I will have to pay them a visit in person at some point. I ordered naan bread, chicken tikka masala, and tandoori chicken. The chicken tikka masala does not come with rice, which is fine for me because I am lessening my carb intake and I already Gor the naan bread. So if you like rice with your meal make sure to order it! The butter naan was sinfully delicious! It was nice, warm, and pillowy when it got to me. They slather it with butter! It's really a treat. Yum!!! The chicken tikka masala comes in a thick rich sauce like a stew and they actually put a lot of chunks of chicken in it. I also noticed that while most places use white meat they use white and dark. So that may be why they have more meat than most places because their choice of using both doesn't affect their profit. Smart! The dish was flavorful with juicy pieces of chicken. The tandoori chicken was nice but nothing special. Very lemony when it could use a little more seasoning. Nice meal. read more

After striking out with two other places, we came here for dinner on a Friday. The strip mall area is not very inviting, but we were hungry. I ordered the daal tadka and also tried the butter chicken, lamb biryani, and chicken keema. I liked the daal the best, despite requesting medium spicy and it not being very spicy at all. Meals come with a choice of rice or naan, and we all had naan. We also tried the vegetable samosas and those were pretty good. My first review of this place was back in 2012 and I'm still coming here!! That's right, it's just damn good Indian food!! Every time I go, the same thing - GOOD FOOD!! Consistent, never has me guessing I just know ... It's going to be GOOD!! Since that first review, I have eaten in several times with friends as well. There service is always great, they stay on top of things without being overbearing and they let you linger as long as you like while enjoying the company of your friends. They know me now and are always very welcoming whether it's for a sit down dinner or just grabbing my take out. I've tried many of the places near by, but I just keep coming back here. I have never had bad service, nor have I ever had bad food. I've tried all of the veggie options by now and the only thing I'll say it's since I've tried them all, now it's tough to pick which one I want when I go. My daughter loves the Tandorri chicken pieces and my man loves the lamb dishes too. They both say the meat is always tender and moist. I just love this place and would recommend anyone wanting good Indian food to go here. read more

Gourmet India is a gourmet experience. While you won't think so after seeing it from the outside, the inside is pretty nice. Parking isn't a problem as it's in a shopping center. Service was great all-around. They even give you a warm towel after your meal to wash your hands and face. I went with the chicken tikka masala, basmati rice, and some naan. There was some good and some bad. The naan was not complimentary, it was $1.95 for four pieces of naan. Still affordable but some Indian restaurants give you complimentary naan. There were other variations of naan with various fillings as well as roti and paratha. The naan was average compared to others I've had. They have a large tandoori section of the menu but the chicken tikka masala was highly recommended on Yelp so that's what I went with. The sauce was great, couldn't have asked for more in that area. However, the chicken was overcooked. And it really wasn't a lot of food. This is typical at other Indian restaurants for this dish but I always expect a more generous helping of chicken. Also, rice doesn't come with your meal. You have to order that separately. This is a bit much and reminds me of when high-end steakhouses charge you for sides which is an annoying tactic. For an Indian restaurant, your side should be included in the price of your meal. read more

Don't let the exterior turn you away! The lunch buffet at Gourmet India is wonderful. As mentioned by many others, they have some of the best sang paneer I have had in Houston. It is creamy and buttery with fresh paneer throughout. The buffet has lots of the standard options like chicken tikka and chana masala and tandori chicken, but there are also extras like vegetable samosas and spicy goat curry and a yummy dark chicken curry. Sodas are included with buffet and they bring fresh naan to your table so the naan is crispy and warm Service was excellent as well. We will be back. Weekend lunch buffet is $12.95 per person and the week buffet is $10.95. They are closed on Monday. read more

The food is good, but they have not upgraded the offerings that I can tell and certainly not the decor. This place is old and dark. There are nicer Indian restaurants on the west side. Now, I consider $14.02 to be plenty for a weekday lunch buffet and since my water glass was filled once and they turned off the lights while I was finishing my meal, I did not leave a tip. Imagine my surpise when I found they had charged an UNAUTHORIZED 20% tip on my credit card. Never again. NEVER. read more

Tried this place for the first time today, a suggestion from my co worker. To go order. The food was amazing! I recently tried a more fast food Indian chain and thought the food was ok. So when I heard that this place was authentic I thought why not. I ordered the butter chicken mild, garlic naan, rice and some vegetables samosas. The flavor was spot on to me, it was seasoned so well. There wasn't a bit of flavor missing. I could eat the garlic naan on a daily basis. The butter sauce was so good. I literally poured it on top of everything! Can't wait to try this place again, I noticed they have a buffet and would love to try it out! read more

I've been going here with my family and friends for years now, and I've noticed a difference in their quality and consistency. Their food is usually good, but the spice level seems to change every time I visit. Their naan used be fluffier, and the quality of the rice was also better before. Service is attentive, but the servers definitely need more training. The last time I was there, our server took away our plates while we were eating, and he spilled water on our table multiple times. They have a groupon, and it's the only place I've ever been to that charges an extra $10 just for using a groupon. That wasn't mentioned on the groupon. And, what's up with the tacky Indian karaoke music? It's just odd and annoying. read more

This is just my personal opinion and clearly im in a minority here, and even though it's nice to have a gourmet Indian restaurant in the neighborhood, but MAN thier prices are unjustifiable! I mean if it was so incredibly authentic with menu items you just cannot find anywhere else, I'd totally visit more frequently. It just doesn't do it for me personally. I'm not a big fan of buffets, they greatly suffer in quality and panache. But every time I go to order an entrée it's over $20 with some naan. The food is FAIRLY DECENT in the sense that it doesn't seem like it was poured out of the box. But that authenticity and "gourmet-ness" factor leaves so much to be desired! Yesterday i went in, fully prepared to support a business but the buffet wasn't open, when i placed my order, the person who took my order called someone because I'm paying with card. Which i thought was weird in the first place. Second i wanted to order the curry lamb, with rice and naan. I asked for the menu, i saw the price was 13.95. The guy tells me to give my card number to guy over the phone... ABSOLUTELY NOT. i said I'll just go get cash I'm not giving my card number to anyone over the phone. Then he says my total is 18.95 - wtf how does 13.95 jump waaaayyyy to 18.95 The guy over the phone says the lam is 15.95 plus rice is 2.00 plus naan.. Mind you the menu said lamb, rice and naan for 13.95. The guy over the phone says they changed the price over a year ago. But why does the menu say one thing. If that was the case LEARN HOW TO HONOR YOUR OWN MISTAKES. I would never go there again. Corona virus has made them price gauge and desperate to over charge people. I came back to visit my family in Houston and decided to see one of my old haunts, such as Gourmet India. The food tastes exactly the same here, and what that means is that the saag paneer, chicken tikka masala, rice and naan tastes great as it always does. The people who worked here in the past are still here and are as gracious, just like the times before. I hope Gourmet India stays for the next time I visit Houston. It's one of the only places that makes delicious Indian food. You can tell the management still maintains the restaurant in a clean and welcoming atmosphere if you come here.
