Overall this place has been good but has seemed to be getting worse over the years. Went for lunch yesterday and ordered the Cobb salad with "grilled chicken". I'd say since salads are supposed to be a healthy choice they would use chicken breast? Nope. Grilled means cooked over a flame ? Nope. I got a nasty fatty chicken thigh that I 100 guarantee was leftover from the night before. It was thrown on a griddle top and heated up. Manager stated "that's what comes with the salad". I asked if they actually grill it and he said no, it is done on a griddle. The rest of the salad was wet and soggy and lacking big time. The 6 minute egg was cold. 18 bux plus another 6 bux for the "chicken". Thoroughly dissatisfied and disappointed. Even after they took the chicken off the bill, with tip was over 80 bux for two salads, poke app (decent) , and two teas. The waiter Lance was very nice older man. This visit to Mahi'ai table lunch with friends was a "one off" experience from previous visits that were excellent. My two friends and I ordered the ahi crusted club sandwich which came with fries. The sandwich was a little dry, the fish room temperature, not warm like it was freshly grilled. We asked for tartar sauce which we assumed would be included, only to learn that we were charged for 3 small containers of tartar sauce! When we received the lunch bill, we advised our server that she should have advised of the extra cost for the tartar sauce, especially since one container would have been enough for us. She also did not return to collect our payment after leaving the bill on the table - we had to ask another server to take the bill. read more

ho my dad is very indecisive, like SUPEr. So this was one of those unplanned things that ended up being super dope. The food didn't take long to come out and it was really good. The fries, swag. Been wanting to come here for awhile since I shop at Foodland Farms pretty frequently. So when I finally went inside for the first time, I was pretty surprised that it didn't feel like I was in a grocery store! The decor is fairly nice and the live music was great. Starting with drinks, I had the lychee lemonade with li hing and my boyfriend had the hibiscus strawberry lemonade. I wish my drink had more lychee flavor, as I mostly tasted the tartness from the lemonade and the li hing. While it was still pretty good, I preferred my boyfriend's drink. For appetizers, we got the sticky ribs. Not the best ribs I've had, but they were tender and quite flavorful! The pickled vegetables on the side were so delicious. For my main, I got the mochiko crusted ahi belly and my boyfriend got the fish and chips. I was in love with my plate! The ahi was nice and flaky, while the garlic rice was bursting with flavor. The greens on the side were a great refreshing break from the strong flavors of the plate. 100% would recommend. But my boyfriend didn't think much of the fish and chips. Thought they tasted good, but nothing special. Finally, we had the apple banana creme brulee pie! It was an absolute dream. The presentation was impeccable and the taste was even better. I loved the freeze dried marshmallows and chocolates that surrounded the pie, and the pie itself was to die for. It surpassed my expectations by a mile. I had such a great experience here! This place is a hidden gem in Foodland Farms at Ka Makana Ali'i. I have been here twice, and both times, I was lucky in that I didn't make reservations, but we could get seated right away. The first time I came was for brunch on a Sunday, and the second time for lunch on a weekday. The first time I went there, I had the braised short ribs loco moco. This is a local favorite; you can usually find this at almost every local restaurant. Using braised short ribs on the loco moco hits differently than a plain old hamburger. These short ribs just fell apart and melted in your mouth. It was over hot rice, with two fresh over easy eggs and crispy onions on the side. The one thing that I always do is get the gravy on the side. I love to taste everything before putting the gravy on. This gravy was not too heavy and salty but just right. I also had a plantation iced tea that was just refreshing. The second time I went there, I tried the Kalua pork burrito. This burrito is stuffed with fresh farm eggs, kalua pork, potatoes, tomato, and cilantro. It was very filling and delicious. I wouldn't try these again, not because I didn't like them but because they have seasonal items on their menu that I would love to try next time. Delicious local, farm to table food! Recommended by my friend and was underwhelmed by the menu before going (didn't think there were enough choices for breakfast). The bomboocha bloody mary is a meal in itself with the veggies, sausage and kimchee. The mushroom omelet was amazing and HUGE portion as well. Got it with the fried rice and I couldn't finish it all. Not once but twice they got my order wrong. The first time, i ordered takeout and got the miso wasabi Asian salad and added the fresh catch of the day for an extra charge of $7. They filled a whole takeout plate with salad and dressing on the side but it was missing the fish. My husband and I came back here for our 10th anniversary. A great choice to go to when you want something familiar but with contemporary twists. Their loco moco is a must try, but my favorite mushroom pizza is my must have. We tried other dishes this time, the manila clams, I LOVED. The soup broth that I couldn't stop drinking. It has a garlicky tumyum umami flavor, just not as sour. The big boy mixed plate was pretty good. Definitely good for someone who wants a bit of variety. The fish taco's were good, so said my husband. We also really enjoyed the Kona Coffee mud pie. If you're a coffee lover or coffee flavored lover, you will enjoy this. Christian, our server was the best! He was so cool and friendly. He reminded us of our college friend. He always checked up on us, recommended the best things on the menu, and the way he talked to us just made us feel really comfortable like he was already our friend. It was pretty busy the night we went. The live music was amazing! The playlist was full of local Hawaiian music that completes the ambiance of this local restaurant. We got our favorite dishes again! This time I was able to get a picture of the Half Pound Burger before my other half took a bite. They did tweaked the burger since the last time and still places as his favorite burger on island! Kanaks!!! I ate too much because we ate everything we ordered. We hade the habanero chicken wings and mushroom pizza for appetizers. Chicken was very nicely flavored, sweet & sour with a tiny kick. Not THAT Spicy, very mild. The pizza was THE BEST PIZZA I've ever had, crispy on the outside soft nice and chewy on the inside, with a good amount of garlic flavor! I'd be happy to just order two and be happy with that. Their loco moco was good, my husband liked it, I felt it was a little bland but that's probably because I was so in love with the pizza lol. Perfectly cooked and those crispy onions are fantastic. Not to be outdone is their crispy confit chicken. The sweet chili glaze and those jalapeños were perfect! Their spicy garlic noodles were so great using a fresh Okinawan soba along with spicy sambal butter. And their mochiko crusted ahi belly was so crispy and juicy. My ohana and I thoroughly enjoyed our recent visit here. Our kids definitely felt right at home as soon as we sat at our table. We ordered the kids some chicken and fries, that came out at the perfect time and temperature to keep our toddlers from having a meltdown. My husband and I ordered the Kauai Boy Pizza for an appetizer. I definitely recommend that! Hubby ordered the burger, which was huge, and very good! I had the Chickpea Bhan MI Burger which as very flavorful although it could have used a tad but more sauce since chickpeas can be a little on the drier side. But otherwise, the food was amazing and we're happy we finally got to try Mahi'ai Table! My friend wanted to dine here for her birthday. We went for lunch. I ordered the spicy garlic noodles with furikake salmon. The noodles were not spicy nor were they garlicky. We asked the hostess and waitress what was good and both recommended the Vietnamese Grilled Half chicken. It did not disappoint.. it was so delicious! We went on Memorial Day. We made reservations around 1:30pm but it was not busy during that time. We would expect it's busy since everyone has this day off. Anyways we were greet by our server with the greatest smile. He was so friendly and talking to us like a friend!! He also talked to my friends baby and the kid actually smile back at him and he's always shy. So I think our server is really good at communicating with people and make us feels happy around him. Ahh sucks that I forgot his name. The food were amazing. I personally love the spicy garlic noodles and Manila Clams the most! I got Manila clams, and I also got a side of garlic rice. The sauce for clams paired perfectly with the rice. The clams were fresh and did not taste any sand or weird textures. The garlic noodles was so addicting I couldn't stop stealing from my friends plate. The loco Moco is pretty good and I like that they replaced with short rib instead of burger meat. For the ube cream puff I did not expect it's full ube instead of creamy ube. Slight disappointed for me because I prefer to be creamy, but my friend loved it and enjoyed it. The shrimp was perfectly cooked and there was garlicky goodness in every single bite. Fish and chips were the bomb! I'm not supposed to eat potatoes but I couldn't help it! This is surely going to be my local go-to fish n chips fix! Pono pork chops are definitely pono. Even the edges were juicy. The potatoes... just as delicious as their chips cousins! Came back again with friends visiting from the mainland. They were intrigued to see a restaurant inside a grocery store! I had to re-order the poke potatoes and the soy-glazed habanero wings which I tried last time. It was still awesome. Usually Brussels sprouts are not high on my list of eats but the way this was made I actually enjoyed it. Again; they were out of pork shank adobo and I was really looking forward to that. Instead, I went with getting the wings and pizza again. My friends ordered the Cobb salad, burger and fries, oysters, and seared ahi and everyone enjoyed what they got. We passed around some of the plates for each other to taste. I had a bit of the ahi and the sauces were really nice! Not overbearing and the flavors really worked well together. My pizza was missing the lemon zest but that was quickly remedied when I told our server, Lance. He was awesome. Still delicious. Of course we had to have dessert and we decided to get the malasada crullers, ube pie and rocky road pie. The malasada crullers are already a favorite of mine for this place and I enjoy it plain, no sauce needed. I didn't try any ube pie but my friend really enjoyed it. We liked the rocky road pie a lot. Wow! Such a cute spot right inside the Foodland Farms at Kamakana Alii. We got there a little after 8 on a Sunday morning and there was only one other party dining in. So, we were able to be seated right away and service was efficient, friendly, and attentive. We got an iced Americano and lychee lemonade, although their cocktails did look very appealing! For food, we ordered the braised short rib loco moco and the Mahi'ai breakfast with housemade Portuguese sausage and anykine fried rice. Spectacular food. Everything tasted so delicious that we both cleaned our plates. More than enough food to share, but could be finished in one sitting if you believe in yourself without feeling like you went overboard. My family and I made an impulsive decision to eat out on a Saturday night. It was pretty busy, but we were sat in 5 minutes. As usual, service is prompt and our server was kind and attentive. It was nice to see a few changes to the menu--a few removals and additions. Since my last visit at the beginning of the year, I noticed two new additions. There is a charred pork belly adobo and miso butterfish. We opted to try the charred pork belly. Unfortunately it wasn't what I expected. The arroz caldo was not flavorful in the slightest, instead it was very bland. I didn't think there was enough meat for the dish, but I guess the garnishes made up for the lack of protein. The sauce was flavorful but slightly overwhelming, kind of like an Asian take on bbq sauce? Also some changes to the dessert menu! We tried two desserts, the kulolo and lilikoi crewmen brulee. The kulolo dessert is served with ice cream, mango and a soft brittle. The kulolo and ice cream were good enough for me. I didn't like the use of rehydrated mango. And whatever sauce was on the dish tasted slightly burnt... Next was the lilikoi creme brulee, which came with a banana fritter. It wasn't bad but it also wasn't special. I think the creme brulee would benefit with fresh strawberry instead of the banana fritter. Overall, the experience was good. There's a good variety of dishes to choose from. Price is right. I hate to do it, but I need to update this review to reflect the dinner we had there tonight. Everything we loved the last time was just reversed tonight. We had a reservation for 4, and somehow got stuck at the table right next to the musicians. They were great, but we came for dinner and conversation, and we couldn't converse at all. If we hadn't already planned a somewhat late (for us) dinner, we would have just left, but we knew we'd have to wait anywhere else we went, so we asked to be moved as soon as someone vacated another table. Once we were moved further back in the room, we could at least have a conversation. We were given new side plates, and mine had food on it from the bottom of the plate that was stacked on top of it. Last time the food was excellent. So much so that my husband and I both ordered the same thing we did last time. This time, the food was disappointing, too. The fish 'n' chips were over cooked and greasy. The loco moco arrived with no gravy. When we finally flagged down our waitress and pointed it out, she told us "it probably all sunk into the rice." Um, no, there was none on it. The correct response would have been to just apologize on behalf of the kitchen and get some gravy. By the time she remembered to bring it, the food was cold. The restaurant manager Pomaikai was awesome! All of my inquiries were answers in a very timely manor and Pomaikai also set up a custom menu for our guests! Ambiance was casual and the space was open! I should preface this review by stating that the only time I've eaten here at Mahiai Table was on a busy Mother's Day for brunch. If I'm guessing, the kitchen was likely overwhelmed which resulted in a whole lot of room temperature (or colder) entrees. Loads of potential in the food, and I imagine if I returned on a less busy day, I'd have much better things to say about the meal. The standout of the meal was the Ube Condensed Milk Latte (in which I subbed out regular milk for coconut milk), I highly recommend this as I've had a bunch of Ube Lattes and this one is up there with the best of them. I had the Kalua Pork Burrito which as previously mentioned, fell short due to food temperature. I ordered the Ube Cream Puffs were almost not worth the calories, and I never even finished the leftovers, this may also be an unfortunate side effect of an overwhelmed kitchen. With all that said, the service itself was stellar, despite the long wait time for all the food (entrees and dessert), and the manager comped our desserts as those had taken quite some time. In all, we spent well over two and a half hours at a restaurant where we probably should have been in and out in an hour and a half tops, which was also disappointing. I plan to return eventually and give this place another try in the hopes of having a better end result. Tried to find a pizza food truck at 3 different possible spots, was unsuccessful. Didn't have time to do much else other than to Yelp "pizza" in the area and Mahi'ai Table popped up with "pizza, cocktails, burgers" in the brief description. Only the lunch and keiki menu have a pizza option. No biggie because our pork belly adobo and crispy confit chicken were amazing! Large portions too, wish my better half would've split my chicken with me. It was everything I always hope for when ordering wings, but received as a half chicken with garlic rice. Keiki were happy with their pizza and pasta. Service was on top of everything, happy and perfect. Loved the modern decor and the live singer. And you have another excuse to explore Foodland afterwards! read more

Just attended a 24-person birthday gathering at Mahi'ai Table. Sunday dinner at 5pm... showed up half hour before to enjoy Pau Hana drinks prior. Live music during our dinner was wonderful... Johnny Stahley even played our requests. Service was great - attentive, accommodating and friendly with our large group. My family enjoyed their meals... Loco Moco, House Burger, Fried Fish & Makai Bowl. Yummy Rocky Road Pie went great w/ my brewed coffee (mug is huge). So glad to see Restaurant was busy - even on a Sunday night. read more

4 stars overall - we've had brunch, lunch and dinner here. But this review is based off the most recent visit where we had brunch on a Saturday. This visit is actually 3/5 stats but maybe it was just an off day for the kitchen. Lunch and dinner experiences were spot on and delicious. But brunch wasn't the greatest. Reservations easily made on open table. Hostess and waitress was very hospitable and friendly. Food was not what we were expecting. My husband got the adobo hash. We were warned that the hash wasn't holding its form that day - so maybe that should've been an indication that the kitchen was having an off day. His gravy was no more than an ounce and way too salty. I got the smoked meat Benedict - English muffin was not grilled/toasted at all and smoked meat was not flavorful. Manager came by and I told her my honest review. She took care of us and assured our feedback would help the kitchen. Like I said, we've dined in before and thought everything was tasty.
