The coolest food truck ever. It's massive and very modern. It's a decent amount of food for a good price. We ordered the lamb rice platter with yellow rice and no lettuce or tomato. The lamb was so good! It's flavorful and not gamey. The seasoning was good. It even comes with fries and a little bit of eggplant. The fries are large steak cut fries which is nothing special but it was filling. We were pretty drunk when we ordered our food and it honestly hit the spot so I enjoyed it. Came due to all the glowing reviews. Had chicken with rice and gyro with rice. First I really wish YELP would allow for half stars. The meat itself was a solid 4-5 stars. Really fresh and not overcooked. Now as some reviewers posted previously, the rice itself is not seasoned at all. Overall this is a solid 3.5 star halal place. Mahmoud's is arguably the best halal food truck in all of NYC. The platter doesn't look like it, but is filled with delicious flavor in every bite! I stopped by around 8pm before heading home to grab a quick bite. I got the Mixed Rice Platter ($9) which comes with chicken, lamb, yellow rice, french fries, fried eggplant, and salad. It is topped with your choice of white and/or red sauce. I went with just white sauce. What I love about Mahmoud's is that they went the extra step with adding fried eggplant and french fries. Like whoever thought of that deserves a raise!! The chicken and lamb is well-seasoned and full of flavor. However, the fries didn't seem as fresh and I didn't get a choice in rice although their menu says you choose between yellow or brown rice. I think I had one piece of eggplant, so I wish there was more of that! Overall, for $9, it's well worth it. I was super full and satisfied after. This is my favorite chicken and rice since childhood. The recipe has not changed one bit and still great. He has always served with eggplant (which is unique and can be ordered without it if not wanted) and french fries (who doesnt like). The meat marination has a distinct smell and taste which is different from all other chicken and rice and yet amazing. The white sauce is not over empowering. Be careful when asking for hot sauce, if cant handle it betta to have it on the side bc its spicy. The meat has this grainy somewhat snoky texture which i love. He went from a standard cart 20 or more years ago to a full out food truck. Same great tasting food, diff from the other guys. He is worth the extra $1/$2 he charges than other pple. The truck just appeared on the corner of Northern Blvd and 54th street one day. It didn't even register on me that this is the Mahmoud's Corner truck that is also located in Astoria until I finally ordered from it. They seem to be here on weekday evenings. The food is a little more expensive than the usual halal chicken/lamb over rice. The last time I tried the food at the Astoria location, I wasn't too fond of it, but this time tasted much better. Woah the aroma when you close by this spot gets crazy .Whenever you pass through steinway st you will know what I mean. Anyways there was no wait and i ordered a beef shawarma platter. Placed a large order ahead of the day of a family event over the phone and it was all packaged really well making transporting easy. My family was able to have exactly the food they wanted with as much of the yummy white sauce as they wanted which was packaged separately. Oh man, if you've ever eaten here you already know the deal! I've been eating at this spot ever since I was a child, and the food has been consistently amazing throughout the decades. As a chicken and rice connoisseur, I can tell you confidently that this is unlike any other halal cart in NYC. My go-to is the double chicken platter with rice. I love the combo of the chicken with lemon juice, white/bbq/hot sauce. The staff here are all familiar faces and you can tell they are like family to one another. They are all super nice. YUM! The best Halal food that I have found. Being a Halal food regular, I can give a good comparison between this location and the more popular one on 53th st. But since I had a very bad last experience with Halal guys once, Mahmoud's Corner just earned a regular in me. I always thought the more famous Halal guys cart on 53rd was boring with their choices of meat (only beef gyro, and chicken). Mahmoud's Corner halal basically the more upgraded version. They had rotating splits of multiple choices of meat: Beef, lamb gyros, etc. The fact that they had rotating splits already scored a win. Plus, their halal bowl was more interesting: Besides your choice of meat, every bowl came with rice, french fries, veggies, and eggplants. It was so interesting to eat that i wanted another bowl right after finishing the first. The eggplants were warm, because it was seared right before serving. I had the lamb and chicken combo for $8, and the lamb was super flavorful. Mahmoud's Corner's halal food checked all the boxes for a food truck/cart: Clean, professional (the cooks were well dressed), good food, convenient location (right off R train, and spacious location), comfortable seats (they prepared some chairs and a little couch for the customers). there was a hair in my food and I came back to the truck letting me know that there was hair. Instead of being apologetic about it he tells me how they have their hair in a hat and it might be hair on the grill. At this point his attitude and the hair in my food has already made me lose my appetite. I tell him I want a refund but he tells me he can't give me a refund but can make me a new one. At this point number one I don't want to eat it anymore and two the horrible customer service is not it. Mind you he didn't even have his mask over his nose while serving food. read more

The food tasted almost like an american version of the dish lacking the appropriate yogurt that is often found in traditional white sauce. This place was great! I had heard about it for a really long time, and I finally came here about a year and a half ago. I got the combo platter, and I really liked the addition of eggplant and fries that are not usually in these sorts of dishes. The meat was tasty and flavorful, and it was a good amount of food. The only downside is there's no place nearby to sit and enjoy the meal. The food is prepared hot and it was really tasty though. Well I ordered the Beef platter. I got 5 pieces of beef that were the equivalent of half a hot dog. Most of them were tough. They gave me fries, salad, and rice. My main issue of course was so little beef. This meal at most should of been $5 but $10. I've had more beef on a skewer from a street vendor for $4. This will be my new local spot if I'm craving halal! Tried it today for the first time and it didn't disappoint. I had the lamb platter with white sauce for $8. Lamb was cut in chunky pieces rather than diced or shredded like some places. Rice is more subtle In flavor but in a good way. Soft in texture and compliments the rest of the dish well. Comes with salad, fried eggplant, onions, green peppers and French fries. Everything is fresh and the combination of everything goes nicely together. If you're picky and not a vege person, this place may not be for you. You can always ask for without the veges but I think it's what makes the dish different and unique.
