BUYERS/LEASERS BEWARE! Note: this review is specific to the sales experience/staff at Mahwah Honda, not the vehicle(s). I leased a 2026 Honda Pilot from Mahwah Honda on August 18, 2026 and, after a high-pressure sales pitch to leave with the vehicle that day, I didn't receive the vehicle until two days later. The issue is not the delay itself; it's the lack of communication and information received. The salesman, David, provided no proactive updates or information on the status of the vehicle. I had to follow-up multiple times and each time the response was "I'll check with my manager and get back to you" but would never call or text back. Mahwah Honda had my deposit/down payment, and I had no idea where my car was or when I would get it. When the vehicle was delivered, I noticed the paperwork was off - it did not include coverage of a 1K mileage overage on my trade in - and when I questioned it, David "didn't remember saying that" and had to talk to his manager. Multiple days, no follow up or response from David, so I finally asked to talk to a manager on August 27. I received a call on September 3 from Armin (spelling may be wrong) who explained the overage would be covered. Note - this call was facilitated by the Brand Specialist who emailed me my paperwork, not David. I expressed my thanks to Armin but asked if I could share my larger feedback on the lack of communication/information from David. I walked him through my experience, to which he flippantly responded that he felt the situation was handled appropriately and I got a car, so that was that. After being totally dismissed by Armin, I mentioned that I'd be leaving a Google review about my experience and the phone call. At this point, Armin became incredibly aggressive and began yelling. He went so far as to say he'd terminate the deal so I could go get the car somewhere else. The call ended with Armin telling me he could write Google reviews, too, and then he hung up on me. About 15 minutes later, I received another call from Javi (again, spelling may be wrong). He wanted to know how we got here because, from his point of view, I got a car and I got it delivered, so what more was there to want? He became increasingly frustrated by, and argumentative about, the fact that I was focused on the sales experience and not the physical delivery of the car itself. It got to the point where I had to stop him and remind him that he doesn't have to like or agree with my feedback, but that doesn't make it invalid or untrue. I also pointed out that it was now the second call on which I was being yelled at, and if that's how Mahwah Honda wants to do business, that's fine - but it's not a great customer experience from my perspective. The whole situation reinforced my feedback/experience to begin with and did nothing to de-escalate or resolve the situation. At this point I think Javi realized it wasn't a good look and changed his tone to focus more on the lack of communication and poor customer service experience. He noted that the feedback would be relayed internally. Whether that happened or not, or if anything will really change, who knows. I understand that experiences at car dealerships are never perfect, but I also never envisioned it being THIS bad. Sharing my experience so others are aware of what they're potentially walking into. No wonder they have a -D rating with the BBB: Simon and David: you can run but you can't hide! I never experienced so many blatant lies and manipulation from a dealership in my life. Tatiana told me on the phone that they have a $175 a month lease promotion and also have a zero down in addition. However when I showed up at the showroom, David the salesperson started backtracking and giving me all kinds of BS that it's not this promotion; it's not that promotion; it's something else. He then became desperate and wanted to show me the vehicles in the lot and even offered me a higher model for 0 down. But he said he needs to pull my credit to find out if I'm approved. He said no worries at all because it's going to be a soft Pull. He was very pushy and almost wouldn't let me go. As soon as they pulled my credit they came back with almost double the numbers of the earlier quote, despite having a very high FICO score. He then added another $3,000 for taxes and fees which he didn't disclose to me before he pulled the credit. And all of a sudden, he wanted me to go to the finance department and get the additional details about additional $3,000 (is that my job to figure out the numbers, why did you ask me to go to the finance department?). So he had simon from the finance department finally come over. He was visibly angry at me, and he couldn't understand why I don't want to hand them over my money and sign the lease? Really Simon: why do you talk down to potential clients with a rotten attitude? Consequently, I am now calling them for the last few days to have them reverse and remove the hard credit pull and they couldn't care less; it's all in vain; they don't even call back. David: you knew how to pressure and be pushy to have me divulge my private info to pull my credit, but you are nowhere to be found when I left u and Simon already today alone 10 messages? Do I owe you something? Do you really believe that I should be sitting now with this derogatory credit report information for the next 2 years? How low Can You Go David and Simon? Recently bought a used car and it has been nothing but a headache since driving off the lot. To start off, the car was barely touched prior to the sale and the car was filthy. They couldn't even do a basic cleaning and I even brought it back. Was still gross and smelly, so I had to pay for a detail out of pocket. After a few weeks with the car, I get pulled over for the taillights being out. I then bring it to my mechanic, who finds that not a single break is effective and the steering is not safe to drive. Dealership ultimately replaced and covered the work, but makes me think if the car was even looked at prior to sale or if they knew and still sold it with defective breaks. Now for the cherry on top, a month has passed and my registration/plates is set to expire tomorrow. Called this morning and the dealership never ordered them In all, I think this has been the worst customer experience I've ever encountered across any industry. Lazy workers, sassy receptionists, and sleazy sales /management. Stay away unless you're getting a really good deal and are ready to deal with a headache. read more

If I could give 0 stars, I would. I am extremely disappointed with my experience at Honda of Mahwah and feel it is important to warn others before purchasing a used vehicle here. I purchased my vehicle on October 15, 2025. During the sale, the person with me specifically asked if the vehicle had ever sustained water damage or had any major issues. The salesperson assured us the car had no water damage, no issues, and was in excellent condition. Within the first week, the vehicle completely shut off and every warning light illuminated on the dashboard. Around the same time, I started having a bunch of electrical issues. The lights would constantly flicker, the driver's window would randomly roll up and down by itself, the car's screen would keep turning on and off, the charging port would stop working, and random warning lights would appear on the dashboard. I immediately contacted the dealership and was told to bring the vehicle back. They said they repaired it, but when I got it back, every issue remained. When I reported that nothing had changed, I was simply told they couldn't find anything wrong. For months, these problems continued. Sometimes the car wouldn't start, and every warning light on the dashboard would come on. Eventually, it would start again on its own. On May 22, the vehicle completely shut down again. Since I live over an hour away from Honda of Mahwah, I had to take it to a repair shop closer to home. Then on July 4, the vehicle completely shut off again and has never restarted. After being towed to Honda, I was told the alternator and battery needed replacement, despite my understanding that those components had supposedly been replaced or addressed during my first repair visit. After having the car looked at by another mechanic, I was told the ongoing electrical problems, including the flickering lights and multiple sensor issues, were consistent with water damage. That was extremely frustrating because before I bought the car, the person with me specifically asked if it had ever had water damage, and we were assured that it hadn't. Instead of taking responsibility for selling me a car that began experiencing major problems almost immediately, the only solution offered was for me to purchase another vehicle from them at a significantly higher cost. I've also received repeated calls and texts from sales staff while I'm at work trying to sell me another car instead of helping resolve the one they sold me. When I spoke with the manager, Simon, I was essentially told, "It is what it is," and that there was no way for them to know the car had problems. I understand that used cars can have unexpected issues. However, when a car begins experiencing serious electrical failures within days of purchase and repeatedly breaks down, I expected far more accountability from the dealership than simply being encouraged to buy another, more expensive car. Based on my experience, I would not recommend buying a used car from Honda of Mahwah. I have spent months dealing with breakdowns, towing bills, repairs, and a car that is now inoperable, while the dealership's only real solution has been to try to sell me another one. read more

My wife and I were looking for a 2014 Honda CRV.and we found one but didn't pay attention to the AWD light on the dash.This became concerning because the car was bought As IS. We worried that there was also no warranty because it had 116K miles on it. Their service department determined that the rear differential assembly needed to be replaced. The used car manager stepped in with Dennis and replaced it at no cost to me. The car roides beautifuly now and I am extremely thankful for their support.I never thought that we would get out of this jam. I will only go back to them for servicing. WARNING: I am extremely disappointed with my recent experience at your Mahwah Honda I was very close to purchasing a vehicle that, after being inspected by my mechanic, was found to have a rear differential that was in extremely poor condition and likely near failure. Had I relied solely on the dealership's representations, I could have been left with a vehicle requiring significant repairs almost immediately. What is even more concerning is that I was initially denied I should not take the vehicle for an independent inspection. Any reputable dealer should welcome a pre-purchase inspection if they stand behind the quality of the vehicles they sell. After my mechanic identified the issues, your salesperson informed me that the vehicle would be sent to auction rather than sold on the lot. That statement raises serious questions about whether the dealership was aware of the vehicle's condition before attempting to sell it to a retail customer. In addition, there appeared to be a significant discrepancy between the vehicle's displayed mileage, which was approximately 89,000 miles, and information showing approximately 160,000 miles associated with the engine. Whether this is due to an engine replacement or another issue, it is information that should have been clearly disclosed and explained. I find it unacceptable that a vehicle in this condition was presented as a retail sale vehicle. Had I not taken the initiative to obtain an independent inspection, I could have ended up purchasing a vehicle with major mechanical issues. This is the second time I've dealt with them, and I leave feeling like an absolute sucker each time. I hope it's my last time, and I wouldn't recommend anyone to them. We left the lot after 5 hours later, dealing, negotiating, waiting,... etc. I had family members who said buying was a quick process for them in other companies. Not here at Honda. It's a lot of playing around back and forth. Made me feel uncomfortable. Felt one-sided, like they are only there for the business and not for the customer. While they were getting the car ready for me, they suprised me with a 7.79% interest rate at first, which is so laughable. Only got it down to 6.79%? with barely anything back after i think about it. Stay away from HONDA of MAHWAH Came to test drive a 2024 Chevy Trax that was listed on their site for $21,599. Waited 2 hours for them to actually find the vehicle, since it was surrounded by 400 other cars, I was told. I should have left then. But I really liked Uncle Dave, the salesperson, and I wanted to see that model car. I should have driven down the street to see the other three used Trax that were for sale in Paramus Chevrolet. Finally the car pulled up, I test drove and wanted to purchase, including trading in a 2020 Ford F150 truck that was immaculate. But they add this Service Reconditioning fee for $2795.00 and a Protection Package for $ 1875, which has to be automatically added to the price of the car. So now the Trax price really is $ 25,524. I would have never come to test drive that vehicle with it listed at that price. Deceptive advertising and misleading customers is apparently the way they operate. The finance guy came out after 'working the numbers' and said my truck wasn't worth anything, he doesn't sell Fords, and the whole package deal would be me financing $23,500, including all these extra ridiculous charges. I thought that was before the trade in price. But no, that was INCLUDING my trade in. The finance guy immediately became rude and disrespectful. He said I was completely ridiculous to assume that I would buy a car for $20,000 total including my trade in. He also said if I didn't want such a high payment, I should put more money down. Disgusting, deceptive and unethical. I finally argued the price down to $20,850. Now another hour and half goes by and I finally go in the back to another guy to sign all the documents, and they all had a different price. The contract that I signed was for $23538 and not the $20850 price I agreed to on the sales floor. Signing blindly out of frustration and exhaustion. BUYER BEWARE. This should be criminal. I am going to file a complaint. To make it even worse, after paying whatever a 'service reconditioning fee' was for, when I left the dealer and drove home (5 hours later), my oil life showed 10%. Silly for me to assume all those reconditioning fees were to maybe prepare the car for sale, should have included an oil change? Especially during the ridiculous amount of time I spent waiting for this vehicle all day long. I am furious. But then it gets even better. I have a push button start. They only gave me one remote. The remote dies two days later. And now I can't get in or drive my car without picking a lock and using an app on my phone. I waste another four hours, taking time off from work, to go down to the service place so I can get a key to actually drive this car I was ripped off for, and they tell me they can't fix it, I'm on my own. I have to go to Chevy and see if they will cover the fob under the warranty. (Chevy tells me there is no warranty on those fobs, and I would have to pay to get a new one or pay to have this one reprogrammed.) They tried to send me on my way without changing my oil. Now I'm waiting for an oil change, the salesperson comes out with the second key that goes to my car. That works. That should have been given to me on Monday, when I purchased the vehicle. These people are crooks. I wish I had read the reviews on Yelp before. All of them are true. Please do not believe the fake 5 star reviews you see on Dealerrater, cars.com, carfax.com, and Google. Check Yelp. Bottom line is, Don't purchase a Chevy (or any other car) at Honda of Mahwah. Unless you like getting ripped off by shameless unethical swindlers. read more

In 2022, I discussed purchasing a Civic with a $26K MSRP with the salesman. We agreed on what I could afford and he went to discuss the figure with the dealership manager. When he returned from his discussion, he lay a yellow-lined paper on the table that had a few lines totaling $36K. When I asked (horrified) where that figure came from, he said since there was no inventory, a surcharge was being assessed. He sympathetically asked what I could afford and I said (honestly) $32K. This time he returned with the manager, who indicated, alas, he could lessen the surcharge by $1K, but that was the best he could do. In the end, I handed them a check for close to $35K. Imagine my surprise when I went to pick up the car (there was a 3 week wait because it was in Ohio), the saleswoman informed me that I owed an additional $3400 for "electronics coverage," and told me an apochryphal story about another Honda driver hitting a pothole and losing the whole motherboard. Aghast I said, "Are you saying if I don't buy this, I can't have the car?" She slyly said then that the reason I wasn't aware of this *coverage* was because I hadn't purchased a car in so long. So, I coughed the additional $3400 up (prior to the car delivery I had run to the bank and moved funds around, thank goodness). Later that day, I told my brother-in-law what had transpired. He said, YOU WERE SOLD AN EXTENDED WARRANTY, THEY JUST DIDN'T TELL YOU THAT. The upshot: I contacted Honda Corporate in California and cancelled the warranty. A few weeks later, I sent them a letter with attachments detailing how I had been treated. Three months later, Honda Corporate sent me an email saying my letter had been put on file for training purposes, and if I wanted an extended warranty, I should contact the sales office. I recently purchased a used 2021 Chevy truck from this dealer. Signed paperwork, put down deposit and traded in my vehicle. We live in Md, didnt make it 3hrs home before all of the break pad sensors were going off. It didnt pass Md inspection, told my sales person with no help. We had all 4 brake pads replaced and new windshield wipers, so it would pass. My temporary tags expired, I called to find out where my tags where and they said I owed more money because MD charges more for tags and title. This is a lie, contracts were signed. It is illegal for a dealership to withhold tags and try to make you pay more money for them. I've contacted nj dmv and reported then, Honda dealership headquarters and the BBB. read more

Once we went to buy the car, they tried to charge/add-on 'pro plan' $1600 charges and 'non-tax' $800 fees which are all fake and made up in an attempt to up-charge as many uneducated buyers as possible...unethical in my opinion. Also $800 doc fee...NY doc fees are capped at $179 since dealers were attempting to rip people off. I'm 58 years old, so I have plenty of experience buying and leasing cars. I took my 21 year old son to Mahwah Honda to lease a 2026 HR-V. The advertised special was $3,000 down and 36 monthly payments of $199.00. Now, I know you have to read the fine print and disclaimers because your always going to wind up putting more money down. In my experience, you can usually add several thousand $$ once you factor in all the 'fine print' stuff; DMV fees, taxes, first payment etc. The first reason for the lousy rating is that we had to wait nearly 5 hours before we even spoke to someone from finance. We arrived as soon as the dealership opened, at 9 AM and we didn't even sit down to finally talk to the financial department until shortly after 2 PM. After Honda finance went over all the fine print and the leasing agreement info, she told us the down payment would come to $4,700.00, $3,000 for the down payment and I was guessing $1,7090 for all the other associated fees. She wrote the number down on a piece of paper for my son and I to see. It was right there in black in white. My last two cars were leases and the numbers more or less were identical so it made sense. The finance gal brings us out to the front of the store so we can pay the $4,700. Next thing I know, my amex card is charged $8,607.00. My son and I nearly had a stroke right there on the showroom floor. Long story short, we cancelled the contract and left the dealership. There is no way associated fees, taxes etc. should come to $5,700 above the amount of the actual down payment. I have owned Honda vehicles for decades. Whether leasing, or most recently purchasing (financing), I have been driving Hondas ever since I can recall (Accords, Prelude, Pilots, Passports). My dealership of choice has been Mahwah Honda on Route 17 North. Staff members are friendly and inviting. I recently traded in a 2022 Passport for a 2025. This was my 4th Honda in 13 years and my second purchase with sales associate Ali Bayat. I asked for him by name and was happy to learn that he was still working for Mahwah Honda. Ali was / is kind and professional. He is not "pushy" and will do his best to work with you and make a deal. While nobody loves the car buying experience, Ali does his best to make it a pleasant one. I know that down the road I will return to Mahwah Honda for another vehicle and will certainly ask for Ali and refer him to others. read more

We made an appointment, and that morning, before we left (over an hour drive) I called to ask what documents we needed so we could only make one trip. Was told I'd get a call back. Hour and a half later, called politely again, left voicemail, no call back. Edit - My location is Rockland County NY On 4/9/2025, I left a $1000 deposit & credit card processing fee on 2023 Honda CRV. The salesman pointed out it had some minor body damage by the rear tail light. He assured me it would be repaired. A week went by and I received a call to come pick up the CRV. When I arrived I found that the paint at the repair site did not match properly and that there was additional undisclosed paint damage on another area of the car. They said that they would fix it "as good as new" and I could pick it up in about 6 days. After going home and thinking about the condition of the car, I texted and called the salesman and told him to cancel the purchase and to refund the deposit. I called and texted several times and received no refund and no acknowledgment of the cancelation. A few days later I received a call from a manager at Mahwah Honda dealership saying "come pick up the car - it's ready". I told the manager that I had canceled the deal and wanted a refund of my deposit & fee. He responded saying "your deposit is non-refundable. Do NOT bring your car here for service. We have had issues with our Odyssey from day 1. Alternator has died twice in 7 years. Both sliding doors broke after 36,000 miles. Recently brought my van in for a paint recall and when it was returned to me the weather stripping was not properly replaced and left black glue all over the roof of the car. They also did not properly put the door back in the track and I cannot close it. They returned my car with a sliding door that cannot close. They said there is nothing they can do about it!!! Brought my car in for recall repair. when I picked it up I noticed that my screen did not display the audio screen but some list I have not seen before. thinking nothing of it I set the display to audio. on my way home the display started beeping and displaying various screen. the screen went dark then came back on and continued this erratic behavior for several minutes before settling back down. I called Honda and was told they did nothing other than the recall repair. I asked why the display was changed but there was no answer other than they only did the repair and the display problem was not caused by them. they say it was just a coincidence that the display started acting up after repair work. I find that hard to believe and will be avoiding Honda in the future. read more
