We came across A+ Hong Kong restaurant while walking around on the weekend and came in around lunch time. It's pretty casual and wasn't too busy inside. Service is quick and straightforward. We ordered the pineapple bun with butter, mixed steak plate with black pepper sauce, and spare rib and chinese sausage clay pot. The pineapple bun was large, hot, and crispy with the sugary crust, although I wish the slab of butter was a bit bigger because it gets a little dry after you run out of butter. My boyfriend really enjoyed his mixed steak plate - it came with a pork steak and beef steak, steamed rice, and steamed veggies. The meat was fine but the real winner was the savory sauce! The clay pots take 20-30 minutes to cook which they tell you ahead of time, so be aware my boyfriend was about done with his food when the clay pot came out. This was a delicious classic dish reminiscent of the clay pots back in Hong Kong! I poured in a ton of sauce and it really gets absorbed into the hot rice and meat. The steamed bok choy was a nice refreshing touch. Our favorite bite was the crunchy rice at the bottom of the pot mixed with the delicious sauce. A+ Hong Kong is open relatively late serving up classic Hong Kong fair including baked rice, claypot rice, rice rolls, and a variety of soup + dry noodles. Not everything is a hit, but I do think they have the best crispy noodles and (although its not quite as good as in Asia) pineapple bun with chilled butter that they toast to order in iDistrict. Stir-Fried Rice Rolls with XO Sauce (3.5/5): I think if you grew up eating this, you'll love it. I thought I'd really enjoy this as I love both XO sauce and rice rolls, but this ended up just being a bit bland and one-note for me. Pineapple Bun Sandwich with Grilled Pork Chop (3.5/5): Very mayo forward and salty, sweet is always a good combo. I do think it's a little bread heavy and somehow because it was sliced, feels a lot more dry than the version with butter. I inhaled everything and reminisced living back in Hong Kong again. The baked pork chop is the star of the show and is very good and flavorful but I'd probably add extra cheese next time for an even cheesier taste. I then have it with rice and ask for black pepper sauce on the side. Then I pair the dish with their mango smoothie with coconut milk and sago to complete the meal. This is my go-to, and it always reliably tastes good! Then meats are cooked well, have very strong wok hei and are easy to chew, and adding the hot dog in makes it worth the $20, since I usually have to take some of the meat home. The mango smoothie is great as always, and I love the mango and sago mixture together; it's somehow not overpoweringly sweet with everything that's inside it. It was quite busy when we were seated, and it seems like there were only 1 or 2 servers at the time, but they did a great job for how swamped they were. The Mala Tang was a bit bland, but it was good for a cold day. I probably wouldn't get it again though. The star of the night was definitely the Beef and Egg Gravy over Rice Noodles dish. I'm glad to have found this spot for a last minute dinner. We arrived around 8:30 PM and got seated right away. It is a casual place. Last call is at 9:15 as they close at 9:30 PM. We ordered the pork hock with rice rolls and the preserved egg and pork congee as our main entrees. We also got coconut milk mango sago and purple rice coconut milk mango desserts. Everything was spectacular. We even got served complimentary hot tea. The pork hocks came out sizzling hot and had tons of flavor while being tender and plump. The congee had ample egg and pork plus a side of you Tiao (Chinese fried donut) which was fried to perfection but not too oily. The desserts were sweet but not too sweet, a perfect ending to our hot entrees. The mango was fresh and the sago and purple rice were well-cooked. I wish there was more! Parking is always a bit difficult to find in CID but we found some street parking after making a few rounds.
