Worst Chinese food ever! Was there years ago and it was pretty good. Had take out today some appetizers greasy and the dumplings were flat with no filling and the Crab Rangoon had NO cream cheese. The sesame chicken had peppers (no mention of this on the menu no flavor, chicken was horrible. When my daughter found a piece of metal and two pieces of a basting brush in it I called them. They said their food wasn't horrible and they never had a problem! They wanted me to bring back everything. They were not going to refund anything probably just give us new which we didn't want. Near perfect cuisine. Total authentic Asian, always fresh & flavorful. There are a few reviews here who I'm fully confident are disingenuous, perhaps unlawfully slanderous. I would suspect they are content on trying to persuade the public away from a fantastic establishment which prides itself on providing true asian dishes. Captain C or whatever his name is likely more accustomed to pairing an egg roll on a chicken farm than appreciating what authentic food from Asia actually taste like. It should sound an alarm whenever someone repeatedly creates reviews either praising or tarnishing an establishment. It should tell you it's highly personal. Fact is from my personal experience having first dined at Mai Pearl at least 4 years ago and having the pleasure to repeat a genuine excellent dining experience at least once every 6 months when I'm in the area I have yet to experience anything other than great sushi, great entrees, good cocktails & decent enough service in that it's attentive without unnecessarily being interrupted while enjoying the good food & drinks and company I'm with. Please beware there are people on Yelp who's job it is literally to shake down or destroy an establishment. There's plenty of businesses who shouldn't be even opened their so poorly managed while often being unsanitary. This group of owners, managers, whoever they are care far more than most on what it means to be hard working responsible and fair as well as clean. You are assured from the moment you arrive that this is the best Asian establishment in the area and from my personal experience the best tasting Asian food of Chinese heritage that I have personally come across in North America. I ate some sushi here about 5 years ago and it was delicious. Not so delicious tonight. I go shrimp tempura maki and it was tasteless. Thank God for wasabi! Sadly this was the best part of the meal. We either order delivery or go in for sushi and apps about once a month for about 3 years. Wife and I went for dinner on a Friday night. The place is a really swanky looking lounge-type setting. It was just a little loud, but nothing terrible. We had a couple of rolls for an appetizer. The kappa roll is pretty much what I expected, but it wouldn't be fair to judge a sushi place on cucumber. The sake (salmon) roll was amazing though. The salmon was practically pink butter--it had that melt-in-your-mouth quality that's hard to find. That being said, the Chinese on the menu is pretty average. I ordered the spicy lemongrass pork and my wife went with a chicken dish, the name of which eludes me at the moment. We shared both, so I got a pretty good taste of each. Not bad. Nothing really stood out though. I'm not sure I'd come here again merely because if I want high-quality Chinese, Cheng Du in Mansfield is much closer to my house, and better. As for sushi, there's been an explosion of sushi/Japanese places around Mansfield recently: we had zero at the start of the year*, we now have three: Kyoto, Asia Grill, and Sake. *(Not counting Fresh Catch, which is seafood/sushi. Sushi is also quite tasty (suprisingly for Foxboro!) but overpriced for lunch - $12 for the lunch special. I come here often and its consistent. What a treasure. No pearl pun intended! Place is understated asian elegant, servers do speak decent English, menu is varied, low calorie items are available, food is fabulous, portions generous AND you don't walk out there bloated from salt and in need of insulin injections from an over use of sugar in the cooking. Even better, you wont be hungry an hour after leaving there (as is usual after eating at the typical local Chineese restaurant.) Short, but "appropriate," wine list for the foods served. I can't speak to the in-house service, but every time we order take out from this place we are disappointed. We ordered last night on a whim because we didn't feel like cooking and we hadn't ordered from Mai Pearl in a while anyway. We ordered 4 rolls and an avocado salad. I didn't enjoy either of the rolls I ordered. I got the Torch Tuna and the Fuji Maki. The menu fails to mention that the Torch Tuna roll actually has nothing to do with being "torched" and also that it is a rice-less roll. The shrimp within the roll tasted like frozen, de-thawed shrimp from a bag and also had that texture. It was nothing that I had expected. Partially my fault because I supposed I should have asked, but the menu is misleading. The fact that it wasn't a rice-wrapped roll would have been enough for me to skip over it on the menu. The Fuji Maki was boring and it tasted like the ocean -- not in a good way. The scallop/spicy mayo mixture on top was the cause of that fishy taste that permeated into the roll itself. My girlfriend got the Dynamite roll and the Sunset roll. She liked the Sunset roll but didn't like the Dynamite roll. She said that roll also tasted like the ocean. I tried it and she was right. The salmon was super, super fishy. She went to eat the 5 remaining pieces of my Torch Tuna and stopped after the first one because she didn't like it either. The avocado salad was bland. We love avocado salad and have had some amazing ones in the area at a couple of other places. This one didn't really compare. It was lacking in flavor. I think, maybe, they didn't put enough spicy mayo in it. We decided last night that this place is way too expensive for not being great. We also always seem to spend 10 minutes trying to figure how whose roll is whose because they don't label the containers. The rolls are below average when it comes to taste and they're only six pieces. My Torch Tuna roll was $17! Six pieces of mediocre sushi for $17! That's absurd. Four 6-piece rolls of sushi and the avocado salad were $72 before tip. That's just way too much. We probably won't order from this place anymore. I'd rather make the drive around the corner to Asian Ginger and get all-you-can-eat sushi for $20 a person. I'd give them a shot in-house, mostly because my girlfriend says that their in-house menu is bigger with better sushi offerings. read more

I've driven by this place many times on my way to Waxy O'Connors and this was the first time I've eaten there. We got Dragon Roll sushi, edamame, pork fried rice, an appetizer combo for two, plus a round of scorpions and a round of Mai Tais. The sushi was excellent; not as spicy as I thought it would be but delicious. Edamame was also delicious but could have used salt (no salt on the table either). The appetizers were some of the best Chinese food I've ever had- the wings and ribs were delicious, the crab rangoons and beef teriyaki were really good. Drinks were good but I wish the scorpion was a little stronger; the Mai Tai was perfect. Complaints were minor; The waitress didn't bring out the pork fried rice until about 15 minutes after the rest of the food was served. We even asked her if it was on it's way and she said it was, and then it showed up a few minutes later. Not sure what the delay was or if everything else was considered an appetizer and the rice was cooked after, but it would have been nice to have it served with the rest of the meal. Also, there was no tea which I always love to have with my meal. I didn't notice if it was a separate item on the menu. Finally, we were only given a single small container of duck sauce and had to ask for two more, but the waitress brought them quickly. I actually give 4.5 stars out of 5! This place is delicious. The service is wonderful- I was a bit doubtful when the waitress did not seem too pleased to see us, but she warmed up quickly. Ordered the Torch- its either tuna or salmon wrapped around crap strips tossed in tempura crumbs with shrimp, and is topped with a seaweed mixture with three types of caviar. It gives you four large pieces (which are cut in half, so technically 8 pieces) for around 16-17$. We also ordered a spicy tuna roll which we enjoyed- it was not too spicy and had a thick layer of rice, unlike some places where the rice is overpowering the tuna. The one thing that we did NOT like was the Volcano. It is tuna roll which is then deep fried in the same batter as tempura. The tuna was dry, and it had too much rice. Pros: Amazing sashimi- even tastes good to people who don't like raw fish! Service is good. Cons: There may be some loud parties, but just ask for another seat. The Volcano. read more

Went here on a saturday morning for dim sum. Dim sum was quite good, definitely will satisfy one's craving if you can't get to Boston. Selection for dim sum was somewhat limited. They also have chinese food and sushi which I did not try. Place itself is nice and spacious. Service was just a little slow but I think that was because we had ordered dim sum. Really enjoyed lunch here though more than what I would usually spend on lunch. However, a good deal for what I bought and the quality of the food. I got Kung Pao chicken (on the lunch special menu, came with rice) which had fresh vegetables and was one of the best I've had. I asked for extra spicy though and I didn't really think it was that spicy. Nonetheless it was a delicious sauce with fresh pieces of vegetables and good pieces of chicken. It says no substitutions for the menu, but I asked for a salad instead of the soup that came with it, and it was not a problem. I loved the ginger dressing! I also added Crab Rangoons as an appetizer to the lunch special (additional 1 or 2 dollars instead of full appetizer) and it came with 3 rangoons. The crab rangoons were among some of the best I've had, with full lumps of crab and not to dense of a cream cheese taste. It was also a good filling to wrapper ratio. The wrapper was flaky and not chewy, like some other ones I've had where the wrapper is very thick (more yellowy colored). I also treated myself to a sushi roll. I got the Scorpion Roll which was really good, though I wish it had a little more of the eel flavor but it was still delicious and well wrapped. My friend also got the Sunset Maki and I tried a piece and it was delicious too! Overall, pretty good portions for lunch. I ended up taking half of my Kung Pao chicken home. This place is as incredible as I was told it was. I ordered the Peking Noodle and Spicy salmon rolls and I also had a mai tai. The Mai Tai was very alcoholic and delicious. My friend and I (though we're lightweights) got fairly drunk off of one each. The Peking Noodles were fantastic. I was wary of the presentation at first (it looked like spaghetti with meat sauce) but when I mixed it all up it looked like a lo-mein dish. The sauce and meat were very flavorful with just enough spice to it and the noodles were cooked well. My friend had the sauteed udon noodle, and he enjoyed it although he felt it was not as spicy or flavorful as my dish. The sushi? Let me tell you, I get sushi a lot of places. I love sushi and salmon in particular. But these spicy salmon rolls were the best I've had. It had a bit of tempura crunch in it to give it a variety of texture, but the thing was PACKED with salmon. The roll was flavorful, not drowning in sauce or used the tempura as filler. The pieces were fairly large and the fish tasted fresh and there was a good ratio of rice-to-fish. YUM! Came here with 4 other girls after a whole day of shopping at the nearby outlets; we were famished! This restaurant is off the beaten path for us and we probably wouldn't have come here without all the good reviews on yelp. It was around 4pm when we arrived and the restaurant was completely empty. We were pretty apprehensive but the food turned out so good! We all ordered sushi rolls and the pieces of fish were fresh and bigger than expected. Generous ginger and wasabi was a plus. They had a really good selection of sushi and Chinese food on the menu and I would've loved to try more. The server was great, extremely attentive and always kept our water glasses full.
