this is probably the best thai food in concord! i ordered beef pad thai & it was soooo yummy! HUGE portions i mean goodness!!! also i asked them if they could make my papaya salad lao style (somtomlao) & oh mylanta! it was HOTTTTT!!! and sooo good!! i ordered to-go but the inside is so romantic & nice compared to the outside. i was shocked when i went inside its very elegant with thai music playing. will for sure be coming back here to try more! read more

Came here due to the yelp reviews. Only been here twice for take out. First time I ordered the pad se ew which turned out to be kind of dry and not that much flavor but the lunch portion was HUGE! usually at other places lunch price is cheaper because they give you less servings but this place gave you a lot of food!! even though I wasn't too fond of their pad se ew I still decided to give another try and had their pad thai. This place was empty when I went and you'd think the service would be better being the only customers in the restaurant but we were greeted very coldly and the yelling in the back kitchen was so loud that I couldn't even hear my friend despite being on the complete opposite side of the restaurant. Awesome experience - the staff was all friendly and engaging, the food was as great as ever - this is our new go-to Thai place. The Crispy Calamari is not to be missed - great flavor, nice portion, the dipping sauce is so good! The Pad Thai and Panang Curry were both exceptional. We had left over Curry and took it home - they even gave us a "liquids" container so I could capture all that wonderful sauce and toss it on chicken grilled a couple of days later. We had brought a couple of bottles of old wines which they opened for us and brought us new glasses with each bottle. Unfortunately the wines were old whites (I know ... got them from a family member just recently) and were no good, so we ended up buying a bottle from them. Having lived in Thailand, and dining regularly in the best Thai restaurants in SF and NYC, I wasn't expecting much when a local family member suggested eating here, but After the first bite of authentic Crab Rangoon, I was slayed by the sheer quality of the food. After being to most thai places in around the Concord, Pleasant Hill, and Walnut Creek area, Mai Thai has definitely the best Thai food in the area. I have tried nearly everything on the menu--all of which are great. The biggest factor for me when trying different items from the same place is how a cook uses the same ingredients to create a different plate--of course using or omitting 1 or 2 different ingredients when developing a different plate -- the factor here is preparation. At Mai Thai all the items that I have tried have their own taste. You will of course taste some similarities in ingredients, however, the preparation and blending into the dish is perfect. You are not overwhelmed with any one particular ingredient when ordering different items. Food presentation is also fairly decent and appealing. A few dishes that have been staples to every order I have made is the Spicy Angel Wings, Lettuce Wraps, and the Red Curry (Seafood). The area is somewhat hidden in what looks like a run down plaza. When driving by you may say "WTF is that?" or "This can't be it" However, don't let the outside deceive you. Yes, the place is relatively small, but the ambiance and decorating makes for a relaxing and comfortable lunch or dinner. Their is plenty of parking and the prices for the food are fair. The service is excellent as the waitresses are attentive and very friendly. They keep their distance, making themselves visible, and don't hover around you. Although their english can be a little challenging, I have never had any issues with understanding any of them. It is very hard for me to give 5 stars anywhere. This is only because a (5) star would indicate perfection right? The reasoning behind the (4) stars is because although the food is great and prices are fair, the portion during take out is a lot less than what you would get when dining in. read more

What an unexpected gem! Don't judge this place by the sign or it's neighbors...there's a quaint little oasis inside, filled with great service and fresh, delicious Thai cuisine. Even our young kids loved it - and they can be picky. Eggplant is incredible...and the drunken noodles were fabulous. The yellow curry was rich and wonderful. I have been here about fifteen times, but the last was the best. They actually had the big 49er game playing on the TV. The staff was warm and friendly. Food was great. Atmosphere was great. Been driving by this place many times but have never tried their food until today. We ordered takeout for dinner tonight. I was greeted by a very friendly and sweet host who helped me pick a beef dish to order. I ordered green curry with chicken ( so yummy and spicy!). Their pineapple fried rice with prawns was very tasty. The basil beef with eggplant was rich in flavor and spice....Everything was so delicious! The food at My Thai 2 is some of the best I've had in my seventy years on the planet. I don't understand all the fuss certain yelpers make about service and wait staff and ambience, since, isn't food the central focus of any restaurant experience? I would probably suffer "soup nazi" treatment if the food is truly outstanding, and this food is outstanding. Plus, if you want hot (I mean real Thai, nose-hair singeing HOT!!!) the chef will accommodate. I'm vegetarian, so I can't vouch for the meat dishes, but everything I've tried on the menu is five star. read more

A friend recommended this place, otherwise, I doubt that I would have tried it.....Thank God for friends! Mai Thai has EXCEPTIONAL Thai food! Located in a very small strip mall, this was a hidden gem. Seriously, they didn't have a sign until recently, so you really didn't know what was going on in there. The small space has a nice energy about it. Very calming, and subtly decorated with simple Asian flavor. I don't think that there are more than ten or so tables, but does not have a "crowded feel", even when the restaurant is full. To start, my friend had recommended the pot stickers. Honestly, I have nothing against pot stickers, but they are not something that I would usually jump to order, especially at a Thai restaurant....right? These pot stickers are different, and I have to admit, are the best ones that I have EVER eaten. I HAVE to order them every time I go now....yes, I am addicted. The dish is visually impressive, I must say. The chef took the time to present them on a small platter, decorated with stripes and dots of a beautiful chili sauce and some type of aioli. The texture is different as well. They are not fried or boiled.....almost appear to be baked. Light and crisp on the outside and moist and chewy on the inside. I could eat two platters with a Tsing Ha (or two), and I am set! Oh, but you can't stop there.... Mai Thai is best experienced when eaten "family style". Order several different things, and everyone shares. This way, you can experience the many gorgeous dishes that are on the menu. The lemongrass chicken, dancing prawns, and BBQ beef are good. They have some curries (I have not tried yet), and the traditional Thai dishes. Take the time to look at the entire menu. I really appreciate that with most of their dishes, they will prepare with your choice of protein. You may choose tofu, shrimp, beef, pork, or chicken....am I missing one? Any way you go, the base dishes are very, very good. You can taste the care that they put into the freshness of the vegetables and the herbs that they cook with. Another great thing that I must comment on is the fact that they not only offer you the traditional white rice served in pretty (bamboo?) glazed bowls, but they have BROWN RICE too! It is tasty and so much healthier for you! So, instead of getting into the dishes in more detail, as to what I have ordered (this is getting lengthy), I will end with what we end a fabulous dinner with; dessert. No, no, you are not too full. You must try the fried banana with vanilla ice cream! Ahhh, just when you thought that it couldn't get any better. The reason that I am not giving Mai Thai all five stars is only due to the fact that they have not been open that long. I want to see if they maintain their consistency. My wife and i have been going here for about 2 months now. We try to go once a week because it is that good. Very consistent quality and presentation is amazing. We try to order something different everytime we go and everything we have tried has been spot on perfection. I dont know where to start, the bbq beef,the drunk noodle,the pumpkin curry,(all the curries for that matter),even the app. are all just fantastic. You have to try this place, and if you like spice ask for the assortment of hot sauces to really heat up your plate. Also the staff here are very friendly and attentive. Worst Thai food I have ever had. Only thing decent was a shrimp dish the wife ordered. It seemed freshly cooked at least. Pad See Ew was very dry - dry fried noodles (some burnt) that had had previously cooked pieces of beef thrown on the noodles (dry and overcooked and cold)without any moisture or sauce substance in sight and flavorless. Pad Thai was the same - obviously previously cooked, dried out, cold pieces of chicken thrown on top of very dry cooked noodles. Also flavorless. We had grabbed takeout and were starving, over wise this would have went back. I certainly would have sent it back if it was in eat in. First and only time here. I usually give places at least two shots, this showing didn't warrant a risky second trip. read more

this is a very good place for Thai food! It has a different menu than I have been to another Thai restaurant in Concord. Very pleasant evening with my family. The brown rice was excellent. It was not the usual brown rice I am used to.. Do try their brown rice instead of white rice! The waitress told me that the brown rice are imported and the cook mixed two different kinds of brown rice. I am sorry I didn't take picture of the brown rice. I will the next time. read more
