Chicken and Salted Fish Fried Rice

Two years later and Yan's is still consistently great for the dishes we regularly order (various fried rices and soups). Service has always been kind and it's nice to see this family business still going. Keep it up! This review is for pickup only

This location has gone through a lot of name changes/owners. I know I ate here before but I can not remember what name it was. I dine here and it was worth it. Limited tables available. A TV to watch while you are eating. My lunch was a good proportion. I was full after eating it. It was a good meal. The Fried Rice was good. Sweat & Sour Chicken was good. I did have Sweet & Sour Pork and Broccoli Beef when I ate here. All the food that I order through their menu was good. The location is OK. Plenty of parking spaces to chose from. It is a OK shopping center with Kinder's nearby. I will eat here again.

The…read moreone thing that really stands out the most to us is their Sichuan Beef Stew Noodle Soup, which I've praised so many times in my previous reviews so I'm not gonna repeat myself so that I don't sound like a broken record, but it's just so good! Another thing we ordered when we visited this restaurant yesterday was the Sichuan Cumin Beef. I honestly forgot how much we liked this dish. The way they cooked it yesterday was incredible. Every bite was packed with flavor (savory, very cumin-y and spicy!) , and even the veggies were fully infused with it. It went perfectly with steamed rice. I want to give a warning though, because this dish was extremely spicy, which I personally loved. I liked it so much that I ended up ordering another one to go so I could keep eating it at home over the next few days, lol. I also want to give a shout out to the guy who was basically single-handedly running the restaurant yesterday. He saw us walk in carrying a car seat and offered us a high chair, but he flipped it upside down so we could safely place the car seat on it. Such a simple back but genius. On top of that, he was super friendly the entire time. The restaurant was pretty empty, which is pretty normal for this restaurant whenever we visit it, although they seem to get a lot of takeout orders - happy for them. The empty restaurant actually worked out perfectly for us since we had a baby with us, haha. Overall, it was a really good dining experience, and I'd definitely keep coming back whenever I'm in the area.

At 12:30pm, at the height of lunch time, there were only 2 customers in the restaurant. I was greeted by a pleasant lady who led me to my table. I ordered their lunch special Kunpao Chicken that came with hot and sour soup, a small tasty egg roll and steamed rice. The Serving was generous and the chicken was delicious! The soup wasn't too sour, authentic but not overpowering which I liked. After my meal, I had enough delicious leftover for dinner. There were just 3 customers, including myself, the whole time I was there. It's sad because the place looks nice and clean, and the food was great. You don't see this soup often on menus and it didn't disappoint. Xiaolong bao was a pleasant surprise. If you are from Shanghai you know there is a specific taste that is always lacking in most dumpling places. But it's here in this Sichuan restaurant so a pleasant surprise. Garlic pea sprouts were tender and fragerent. Beef rolls had the most delicious braised beef. The salt and pepper chicken was basically popcorn chicken but came in a huge basket and pretty decent. Overall great food in a no-frills environment with decent portions and prices. Would return to try other dishes.

We decided…read moreto share our individual choices family-style--much like eating dim sum--which allowed us to get a taste of every dish. We all left knowing we'd definitely be back with our families and friends. The ultimate highlight for me was a surprisingly unique Salt and Pepper Squid. I am not usually a squid lover, but this beautiful dish instantly enticed me. The squid was presented almost like cauliflower and cooked to crisp perfection, complemented by vibrant red and green peppers. What is often a tasteless ingredient was bursting with rich umami flavor! The Changsha Chicken Clay Pot was packed with flavor and tender chicken. Similarly, the Seafood Tofu Clay Pot--a Cantonese classic--was exceptionally well prepared. The Cumin Lamb was incredibly tender; while I don't eat lamb myself, the rest of our table absolutely loved it. Even the Orange Peel Chicken (or General Tso's)--a classic Americanized Chinese dish with fried chicken in a sweet and sour sauce--was a big hit with those who ordered it. Lunch was also served with their signature pickled vegetables, fried peanuts, and a choice of hot and sour or corn soup--all of which were delicious. Located in a quiet corner of the Countrywood Shopping Center, Sichuan House is a spinoff of the highly popular Sichuan Fortune House in Pleasant Hill. Over the years, the menu has evolved to suit local tastes by incorporating popular Cantonese specialties and non-spicy options alongside traditional fare. Regardless of what you order, the competent kitchen delivers consistently delicious food. Between the tasty, well-executed dishes, the clean and calm interior, and the friendly, attentive service, Sichuan House will easily make you a return customer!

This place means a lot to my family and I. We have been coming here before I was born. I have many fond memories of eating here with my grandparents and the delicious food they offered. And finally, I will give it one last hooray before they close the doors. It was packed today, with waiting for lunch taking about 20 minutes before my name was called. I am happy for their business they are getting in the last few days but I would recommend coming here earlier than your anticipated eating time. Family Style Tofu: My all time favorite dish. It is fried tofu in a brown sauce with mixed vegetables. For their lunch special, it came with a bowl of hot & sour soup, fried rice, a crispy spring roll and a fried wonton. All of it was delicious. The tofu was fried perfectly for me and there was ample amount of vegetables. The spring rolls was filling for being vegetarian and the fried wonton was crispy as well. The soup was extra sour, which I personally liked. Although, my one issue was the brown sauce was a bit on the salty side. Still, I throughly enjoyed my meal and had enough leftover for a second one. Ahh, Chef Choy. Been on this planet for almost 35 years and it is tough to see them go. I hope they will open again soon but if not, thanks for the memories and wishing the best for the staff.

You can see the generations and the dudes family has celebrated birthdays, graduations, promotions, and random Tuesday cravings for decades. As a vegetarian, I didn't get to try the meat dishes everyone else at the table ordered, but let me tell you something... the tofu string beans and fried rice were probably some of the best vegetarian Chinese dishes I've ever had. And I do not say that lightly because vegetarian options sometimes get treated like sad side salads The string beans and tofu were flavorful, savory, perfectly cooked, and honestly the star of the table for me. The fried rice was pure comfort food energy. Simple, nostalgic, satisfying. The hot and sour soup personally wasn't my favorite because it leaned a little too tart for my taste, but everyone else seemed to love it. The Fried banana bites with vanilla ice cream, caramel drizzle, chocolate drizzle, whipped cream... absolutely unnecessary in the best possible way. Tiny crispy dopamine orbs. What made this experience special was seeing families gathered together in a place that clearly means something to the community. Restaurants like this become woven into people's lives. That matters. Congratulations to the Chef Choy team on retirement. Pleasant Hill is losing a longtime staple and so many families are walking away with memories tied to this place.
