Came here for lunch and was surprised we saw no lunch combos on their website menu. The food was ok, nothing bad and nothing spectacular. I will give another review after trying them a second time. Their pricing is BEYOND affordable, the service was a bit slow. The chicken wings werent as crispy as one would hope but the potstickers were delish! I will try their soups next. read more

Gave this place a try with some of our standards and one rarely ordered item and it was okay. Westlake minced beef soup was really fresh tasting. Mu shu pork (our rare item) was okay. Cashew chicken was okay as well. Beef chow fun was a little under flavored, missing the wok hei. Might come back to try other dishes. read more

The lemon chicken is not real chicken breast. It is that synthically lab made meat. If you cut into it, you can clearly tell it is not real. The breast shaped patty is ground up, pressed, and formed to look like a slice of breast meat. read more

Couldn't even eat it. The rice was fine. The place looked clean and service was fast. But my main entre was basically raw, tough, uncooked vegetables. Had to microwave it for 6 minutes to finish cooking it. The taste was also unexpected. It was supposed to be spicy garlic eggplant, but it was sickeningly sweet with no hint of spice or garlic. Like pure sugar. I don't like wasting food. I ate about half before I gave the rest to a coworker. He didn't eat it either. Maybe it was just an off day for them. Things are too expensive nowadays to be wasting money so I probably won't try this place again. read more

I have been going to yans for a couple years after my friend introduced me to it. It is seriously some of the best food I hve ever had. I have gone many times and I love it every time. If I could give this place zero stars I would. Terrible customer service. Rude owner/waitress!!! I went in for lunch and ordered hot&spicy garlic eggplant, as described on the menu. Instead it was swimming in a sweet syrup sauce and the eggplant had zero flavor, all I could taste was sugar despite on the menu it was described as spicy garlic eggplant. I asked the waitress/owner if I could get it replaced with a non sweet item as it was not as described on the menu, waitress refused to replace the item and said if I wanted something else I would have to pay for both meals!!!! Terrible! And not only is the food bad, the ambiance is horrible. Chipped paint on dark tan walls with pen scribble from their kids all over it. And they allow their little children to run around screaming and playing while patrons are trying to dine in peace. Also, big screen tv on the wall playing cartoons at high volume for their kids as well. Felt like I was in a kindergarten room instead of a restaurant. I asked waitress/owner if she could quiet the loud rambunctious kids and she said "no" and suggested we take our food "to go"! Rudest woman ever! I can get better food, ambiance, and service at Panda Express at a better price. We generally pick food up, although there are tables and you can dine in. However, the pick-up is busy (delivery available), and the tables are usually empty'. I think it is the ambiance more than the service. The food is good, basic, plentiful, and there is a variety. Their pork in dishes like Sweet and Sour can be a bit gristly, but everything else has always been good. It is our go-to for casual convenient Chinese food. read more

This location has gone through a lot of name changes/owners. I know I ate here before but I can not remember what name it was. I dine here and it was worth it. Limited tables available. A TV to watch while you are eating. My lunch was a good proportion. I was full after eating it. It was a good meal. The Fried Rice was good. Sweat & Sour Chicken was good. I did have Sweet & Sour Pork and Broccoli Beef when I ate here. All the food that I order through their menu was good. The location is OK. Plenty of parking spaces to chose from. For anyone that loves a little Chinese food in their grease.... It was a long Sunday at work and as my shift came to end I developed a craving for Chinese food; possibly my favorite food of all time. I tried to order takeout from some of my favorites, but they were all either closed or closed early on Sundays. So instead, I decided to try Yan's Garden. I should have just gone to Panda, or even Safeway, or just bought some frozen bullshit cuz this was not it. Everything was very reasonably priced, so I chose 4 items with the intention of eating it for a few days. 1. Salt and Pepper Pork Chops: Overwhelmingly oily with notes of Funnel Cake 2. Sesame Chicken: Overwhelming oily with almost no flavor and mushy 3. Chicken Chow Mein: Overwhelming oily with almost no flavor 4. Sichuan Beef (the best of the bunch): Overwhelming oily yet the most edible. Long story short, I felt like I had been taking shots of KY after eating this awful food. Next day I had to pucker my asshole as tight as possible to avoid shitting my pants all day. Diarrhea city population 1. Or rather, population anybody that eats at this disgusting eatery. WTF? Needless to say, I will never give this place my money again. And I suggest you don't either. Gross. read more

We lived in the area for over 20 years and have frequented most of the Chinese restaurants and found that Yan's is a great combination of good food and service and their prices are very reasonable. It's a family run business and often you will see the young children helping with menus, etc... If you haven't tired Yan's yet, I highly recommend you give them a try! read more

On Thursday 12/12/2024 I ordered food to go. Within the order I did, was my favorite: Shrimp Egg Foo Young. I always order from them through Grubhub (Scramble Egg and Prawns). But this time I decided to go directly through they website and the results was: ,Me paying $14.75 for just a Scramble Egg made it with Onions. Imagining my disappointment. This is my first time trying this place out, considering we are all on lockdown due to the Corona Virus I figured I would get an order going through grubhub. I noticed they had high reviews on it as well as the delivery fee was only 3 cents, what a deal. The order was suppose to take an hour and I ended up receiving it earlier, I'd say about 45 minutes so another star added for that. Now is the time to order from small businesses and I've so been craving hot and sour soup for the last month. I looked on yelp and ended up ordering their most popular dishes which was lemon chicken and the egg shrimp rice. When the delivery woman left it on my bench once she left I went out to pick it up. The bag was so heavy I'm thinking they must've added more than I asked. I've ordered from a few Chinese restaurants and never has the delivery bag felt this heavy. Well I opened it up and noticed how huge the portions were. Every box was full to the top and sides so another star for not being shy with their portions. The quality of the food was great, lots of flavor, hot and fresh once delivered. I am definitely going to give them another try and post another review with the different dishes I'll be ordering. 4 stars for this restaurant for doing a great job with service during this hard time. read more

We have been ordering meals from this establishment for many years & the meals were very enjoyable. Tonight was a very very poor experience. First the man (or I would call a young man ) at the front counter was very unprofessional. I asked if there happens to be a veteran discount at this establishment. -My error not asking this question in the past at this restaurant -. He acted like he did not understand what a veteran actually is & pretty much just ignored my question. We ordered a take out meal with multiple choices on the menu. Unfortunately I did not check the food before leaving the restaurant. I assumed that my order would be as good as always, as my past experiences. When we arrived home with our order, our entire order was all cold & the Fried Crispy Chicken Wings had a bad odor like fish. Note: we arrived when the order was just being walked out from the kitchen & we live approximately 5 minutes from Yan's Garden Restaurant. We then returned to the restaurant to get some kind of resolution for our issues. The same man at the front counter that received our payment gave us an argument - raised his voice & was very rude. Finally after stating over & over about how disappointed this experience is, He finally gave us a refund for only the Fried Chicken Wings. Unfortunately & Needless to say we will not be giving these restaurant any more of our business. This customer service is so terrible & word of mouth can be so detrimental. read more

This is my kids' favorite restaurant and our go-to for weeknight dinners. We always order the potstickers and the lettuce wraps but everything we've had so far is also good. It is very kid friendly and they will put kids cartoons in the big screen to give parents a few moments of peace. read more

I have been going to Yan's Garden for many years. I picked up my orders to take home. The food was always steaming hot and delicious, until tonight. When I got home, I live three minutes away, I opened the boxes and the food was barely warm. I took a bite of the crispy chicken wings and they had a funny taste. So with two thing's wrong I decided to take back the wings. I told the guy behind the counter what I just said that I wanted him to reimburse the money for the wings. He said these are still warm. I told him they tasted awful. He started looking through the day's receipts and said no one else complained today. While all this was going on i think they were the owners were talking back and forth to the guy at counter. I told him I didn't care what he thought. He did issue a refund. As I left I told a lady, there to pick up to check her order before she left. The guy just laughed. Never going back. read more

This small, family owned restaurant is the bomb! I've had several dishes from here... mostly to go. Today, I came in for lunch late. I was greeted by the laughter of the owners' daughter when I walked in the door. She's a little character and definitely experiencing her terrible 2s! No problem for me. The owner told me he daughter had already swiped 10 fortune cookies, and the sugar rush was evident! On to the food...I ordered the fish filet in black bean sauce. The dish came out streaming hot and was an ample portion for a lunch order. The flavor? Delicious! The fish itself was so tender and fresh, and not fishy tasting at all. The black bean sauce was super flavorful, and there were plenty of vegetables to compliment the fish and included a nice portion of streamed rice. A cup of text book hot and sour soup was served before the entree. A tip for you soup lovers - Order a large soup, and you'll get 2 quart containers. Have one today and one for later! This place is my all-time favorite Chinese restaurant in the world. I could never imagine myself going anywhere else for Chinese. I've been eating here for at least nine years now, and the quality has never dropped off. What makes the fact that the quality has never dropped off is I think Yan's Garden went through an ownership change in that time. If my information is correct, then the former owners sold Yan's to the executive chef. Their portions are incredibly generous and it's just a great comfort food spot for me. The "usual" my family normally gets here is the shrimp chow fun, Mongolian beef, sizzling rice soup, mapo tofu, and shrimp. The portions keep you full for a good six hours or so. I'm a little surprised at myself that I never gave them a Yelp review until now, but that's how good they are. I'm so busy enjoying their delicious food that I never had time to type out my thoughts on this place. read more

Decided to try Yan's Garden today. I ordered the Chicken Chow Fun. There was soft jazz playing which was a nice change from the usual fare. A warm decor and also seating outside. Nice place. Prices are a bit high but that's Laurel St. in San Carlos. I was going to order the Singapore Style Rice Noodles but theirs is spicy. I have never encountered that anywhere else. So I decided on the chicken. Very oily and a bit on the bland side. The chicken was far and few between. Very little, but what was there was good. For the price, $16.00, it should have had a LOT more chicken. Mostly noodle. Chow not so fun. I must say the service was wonderful. The gentleman was very attentive to my needs, checked on me several times to see if I needed anything. Most places give you the to go box and I have to fill it. He took my plate to the kitchen, boxed it and bagged it for me. Nice. Because of the price and amount of protein in the dish I probably won't be back. read more

My wife and love this place. We've been 5 times together, she has been at least 10 other times with her friends. We do not live close, we are in Pleasanton, so I think that speaks to how good it is and how much we enjoy it, that we will either make a 30 minute drive one-way to specifically go here, as well as going here when we are in the area. I will say we had gotten away from dining at Chinese restaurants over the past decade as many are so mediocre, while we can go eat at a plethora of great Thai, Vietnamese and Indian Food. Yan's restores my faith that there still is GREAT Chinese restaurants out there! GREAT service ... friendly, appreciative, fast, efficient... just tremendous. We've had too many great dishes to list them all over our many visits ... but some of our favorites are the pork potstickers (as good as any potstickers I've ever had), all the dim sum/appetizers are terrific, salt & pepper shrimp (incredible), dry green beans with pork, all the noodle dishes ... we had chicken chow fun. We did a group dinner one night where I got to try more than 10 different items. Every one was really good with several being tremendous! Already salivating at the thought of returning, even though we just ate here Friday. read more
