Been driving by this place for years I heard they remodeled and new owners I think anyway it nice inside believe it or not we thought driving by it was just a take place no it's actually pretty clean and new inside . I definitely would go back its very clean and good food . We both enjoyed it very much . We ordered salt and pepper calamari and chicken chow mien and general Taos chicken excellent choice all breast meat very tasty. So if you are wondering try them next time you feel like Chinese we are going back

I really wanted to like this place, but unfortunately the food completely missed the mark. Every dish we ordered was shockingly bland--absolutely flavorless and under-seasoned. I've never in my life had to add salt to Chinese food, but tonight it was necessary just to make it palatable. To make matters worse, the portions were incredibly small considering the price point. The Mongolian beef had more onions than beef in it and the lemon chicken was very low in protien compared to breading. For what we paid, I expected far better quality and quantity. Chinese food is usually a comfort meal packed with bold flavor, but this was anything but. Disappointed and won't be reordering.

China Chef in Pleasant Hill is a completely new experience. It has been renovated and has a new professional staff. The ambiance of the new renovation and the excellent food preparation served by the new staff is terrific. The name is the same but everything else has changed. I highly recommend it.

We wanted take out for the whole family and decided to try a place we had not ordered from in the past. We can't speak to the ambiance since we got take out but I can say we loved everything. We tried the following dishes: Vegetarian Egg Rolls Egg drop soup Chicken skewers Chicken Chow Mein Combination Fried rice We really enjoyed everything. The chicken skewers being more like fried chicken was unique and delicious. The egg drop soup was one of the best I've ever tried. The kids ate all the noodles and even though we ordered a ton of food we had no leftovers. That is the highest compliment I can offer! Give them a try!

My wife found China Chef by ordering from a delivery service for dinner to order for our toddler son. She didn't ask me before ordering and chose dishes like salt and pepper shrimp and fried rice. Our son loves fried rice and will usually eat any type of protein with this dish. My wife ordered beef and broccoli as well to try a new Chinese restaurant with good reviews. We all really liked the food, the fried rice is packed with flavor and the salt and pepper shrimp was really well fried and seasoned. We liked this restaurant and ordered takeout soon after our first delivery service. I ordered the salt and pepper pork chops for a takeout order while including fried rice for our boy. We all liked the food and the sesame balls for dinner are a good dessert. This place is great at frying proteins and making your takeout orders in a hurry! It's located near the Sun Valley mall and easy parking for pickup orders. The salt and pepper pork chops are great. We are happy to find a great Chinese takeout restaurant for days we don't want to make dinner.

75% of my 13 dollar dish was onions

Online ordering doesn't work, staff even acknowledged it doesn't work half the time. So after waiting over an hour, had to call in, give my order over the phone and wait over another hour for delivery. Once the food arrived my Mongolian beef was more like Mongolian Onion. Never in my life have I ordered a dish, other than perhaps the bloomin onion from Outback, and gotten a plate of damn near all onion. What the hell?!?

Yum yum yum! Got some delicious combo fried rice, sweet and sour chicken and green beans! Absolutely a must try! I will definitely be back

We just moved up to WC area and we were looking for a good hole in the wall Chinese Restaurant. Unfortunately China Chef is not it! Ambiance brings me back to the 80's! Not updated at all! Food was mediocre at best. We ordered the Beef Chow Fun, Chicken Fried Rice and the Beef with mixed vegetables. The chow fun was no FUN. Seriously! There were more vegetables than the actual FUN NOODLES! The noodles were thin and not plentiful. The taste was ok, more like oyster sauce poured over vegetables and some noodles. The Beef with vegetables looked like the beef chow fun!! They both looked exactly the same but one had some noodles underneath all the veg. We couldn't even tell which was which! The chicken fried rice was ok, I mean nothing to write home to mom about!! The service was good and the server was nice! I don't think we'll be going back here anytime soon! Sorry!

    Beef with black bean sauce

Placed an order of Beef with black bean sauce and a side order of white rice. I did not expect Beef with black bean sauce to come with so many vegetables and such a small quantity of meat. I thought from the title it was just going to be just beef stir fried with black bean sauce. The vegetables that came with this order were corn, onion, celery, squash, and bell pepper. Beef was pretty tender. The sauce however was a different case because not much black bean was tasted and the saltiness almost purely came from soy sauce and salt. Rice came in a very small order box. For one person, one order of a dish and rice is pretty filling, but if you are eating together with someone, make sure to order one more rice.

4 of us and this is all we could manage to force down.

I was invited to Isla Grand in Pleasant Hill as first-timer with what I thought was a solid plan:…read moreobserve quietly, eat politely, and not embarrass myself. The universe had other plans. Because I was introduced to the kamayan feast, which is basically what happens when a table decides utensils are optional, manners get relaxed, and food is no longer "served" so much as presented as a shared event happening directly in front of you. At first, I hesitated. I did the classic first-timer move--hovering my hand slightly above the food like I was trying to ask permission from the rice itself. Everyone else, however, was already fully committed. No forks. No hesitation. Just confidence and garlic rice. So I adapted. Quickly. And suddenly, I understood. The table was covered in a spread of Filipino traditional dishes that didn't feel like separate items--they felt like one coordinated experience. Garlic rice acting like the foundation of everything. Rich, savory meats layered in with bold seasoning and slow-cooked depth. Bright, tangy bites cutting through the richness at just the right moments like they'd been choreographed by someone's very opinionated lola. Every bite was slightly chaotic in the best way because there's no "correct" path. You just build your own perfect forkless (well... utensil-less) combination with your hands and hope the ancestors approve. What really got me, though, wasn't just the food--it was the customs behind it. Kamayan isn't just "eating with your hands." It feels like a quiet lesson in Filipino hospitality. Everything is shared. Everything is communal. You're not isolated in your own plate-world--you're part of a table ecosystem where people are constantly offering, pointing, encouraging: "Try this with that," "No, you need more rice with that bite," "Trust me." And somehow, even as a first-timer fumbling through the etiquette of it all, nobody lets you feel out of place. You're just... folded into it. At one point I stopped worrying about doing it right and just accepted that the correct way to eat kamayan is the way that gets more food into your mouth while laughing with the people around you. Simple enough. By the end, the table looked like a successful mission had taken place--emptied platters, scattered grains of rice, sauces doing their final victory lap. And everyone had that satisfied, slightly sleepy feeling of having actually shared a meal instead of just consuming one. I came in curious. I left a little less formal, a lot more full, and weirdly convinced that all food tastes better when your hands are allowed to participate in the decision-making process. Kamayan didn't just reintroduce me to Filipino food customs from my past. It solidifed my ancestry and up bringing allowing me to experience a whole different way of eating together with...Mahal. Come hungry and Go Big!!!

To make things worse, our waitress started avoiding our table and barely checked on us because of how bad the service already was, so everything took even longer and we had to get another waitress to help us. When the bill finally came, they charged us incorrectly and still tried to charge us for their mistake. We were billed for 3 orders instead of 2. It took another 10 minutes and a different waitress just to get the bill corrected. The food was good, but the service needs improvement and better attention to detail. With better communication, faster service, and more attentive staff, the experience could have been much better.

Was looking for a good hot pot place, and was in the Concord area…read more So I'll start with what I didn't love, but I did think it was a great gimmick for the area. The music was way too loud, almost like a night club - where you have to practically raise your voice to talk. It's great for guys, where their voice projects, but it's more difficult for anyone that has a bit higher. There are no tongs (but they will give you extra chopsticks). Also, the individual induction units are right on the table, instead of inset. This causes the potential of hot soup base spilling as a more likely experience for clumsy people. For the thing I love about this place? First... value for money. $29.99 per person for all-you-can-eat hotpot? This is amazing in this age where an entree is like $25-30. Appetizers are ordered 2 at a time, and meats are 6 at a time. Meats only come one on a thin tray, which holds about 4-6 slices. So you'll be ordering other helpings, since there are I believe 5 beef selections, and a pork and chicken selection (7) total. The middle of the restaurant is a large bar where you get everything that isn't a meat. The selection of vegetables, and noodles are pretty vast, and almost always refilled. The seafood area has shrimp, clams, tilapia, and mussels. Sauces area also on the sides which makes it pretty much an on-going motion. It's not the high-end of hot pot by any means, but the ambience that they're projecting works for the area that it's in and how they compete with the rest of the restaurants in the area. But for the money? I'd go here. We did sit in a side-middle area where it wasn't a booth. However, they made sure to separate out the seating so that if you were a group of 3, they situated in opposite ends to create space. That attentiveness of spacing actually created a better atmosphere which was a small thing, but a smart thing. Love that they actually celebrate birthdays with banging of pots, and wishing well. It's something that is fun for groups and definitely nice if you happen to be celebrating a birthday! Definitely will come back.

We were in the area and remembered that this place had really good hotpot meat, so we decided to…read morecome back again! When we arrived, only bar seating was available, but we took it anyway because we were hungry and wanted to eat. They offer an extensive selection of food, and the quality is solid overall.
