Been a customer here for years but it has recently changed ownership. Have visited twice and the food is as good as it was under old ownership but they've added a few new menu items such as pho. The service is good as is the food. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The disappointment is that they charge $3.95 for a single bottle of soda. I understand making g a profit but good grief. That in itself is enough to keep me from returning. Not interested in being taken advantage of[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]].

Delicious Tofu/Veggie Drunken Noodles. *Sorry for mid-meal photo. But so YUMMY!

I'm LOVING this place!! It's hard to find good Thai!! I'd been driving so far out of the way when craving Drunken Noodles!! But Mai Thai II nailed it! Excellent flavors and the service is amazing! I feel welcomed and well attended! [[HIGHLIGHT]]The iced tea is the best I've had and tastes home brewed.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Their off day is Tuesday, which I think is smart since many restaurants are closed on Mondays. Right now, this is my favorite spot! I just found it in April 2026; they may have new management, as every experience I've had there has been exemplary and I've seen a constant stream of customers and Door Dashers flowing in and out the entire time I'm eating there. I can attest that they're doing something RIGHT!!

Great customer service and dining table. Food was fresh and very flavorful I didn't need to add anything to it.

    Huge serving

Huge portions. Plate was hot. Pad Thai was a little flavorless and no peanuts on top. The Pad Thai got a little better when I got to the sauce at the bottom. The owner turnt out to be super friendly as I hung out for my order. The egg rolls were good and crispy. Friendliness and portions up the rating here.

    The leaves sticking out

Wow!!! Very unexpected! I almost thought I received their grocers because it was heavy...and then leaves were sticking out! The pineapple fried rice with vegetables and tofu! Amazing! HUGE portion! Plus there's a dang half in there! It is very tasty. I only gave it 4 stars because I requested no egg and I see a few pieces in it. And when I went for pickup nobody was upfront nor acknowledged I was there with any verbal anything. It was my first time so I thought I was missing something. Also, the tofu, while cooked well, is somewhat bland. I've added some sauces from home. The pineapple is juicy and amazing! There is a fusion of what tastes like Indian spices. This is so tasty! I had to stop eating to add to my review . ‼ overall, very well prepared & will order again!

    Yummy !!!!

Not a fan. Ordered the red curry, beef is a little too old...pineapple fried rice looks good, especially fried tofu

Typically Uncrowded thai restaurant in a strip mall with food that is surprisingly good. Large portions.

It was fine, but not the best. We get the pad kee now and pad see wee and there wasn't much flavor. I don't think we'll eat here again.

Food was pretty good but I seen a couple of flys flying around where I was at. To me that's a bad sign as far as sanitation.

Sadly, there is just not much as far as decent selection within at least 30+ minutes driving in the area. However, Chef Thai is exactly what I expect and want from a wonderful Thai restaurant; slightly tacky decorations, nothing fancy, and wonderful smelling aromas coming from the kitchen! As of now June 2022, they are ONLY DOING TAKE OUT. So if you want to eat there, please call to see if they are open. They do take orders for takeout by phone as well. The staff I have dealt with are always very pleasant and they are extremely fast for the quality of food. My first time in I was delighted to see they had my favorite Thai specialty on the menu, Pad Prik Khing, and it may be the best rendition of it I have had anywhere! As with most places they offer their entree in a range of spice, I typically get "hot" and it is not as hot a a lot of other places, so if you want really hot, go for "Thai hot". Chef Thai is definitely a great place and I hope they continue to do well as they are definitely one of the best quality restaurants in the surrounding area, even though they may not be very well known.

Updated review- My husband and I used to love this place…read more It was the best we could find in the whole Charlotte area and we frequented it often. Unfortunately the two chefs left the restaurant and now it's just become another so-so Thai spot. It lacks spice and everything we've had for the past few months has been bland and underwhelming. The host/server didn't greet us or say hello--instead, she looked confused that we were even there. When we asked if we could sit at the bar, her response was, "Um... yeah, I guess," which immediately made us feel like we were inconveniencing her. After we sat down, she continued staring at us as if we weren't supposed to be there. The service only got worse from there. She was rude while taking our order, then spent most of the time sitting directly across from us on her phone. She never once checked on us, asked how the food was, or if we needed refills or anything else. It was some of the most inattentive and unprofessional service I've experienced. Unfortunately, the food didn't make up for it. It was mediocre at best. The vegetables in my curry were clearly freezer-burned, which completely ruined the dish. I also ordered soup with tofu in it, and the tofu tasted like it had been fried in oil that hadn't been changed in months. It had an old, rancid, greasy flavor that made it almost impossible to eat. Overall, the poor customer service and disappointing food made this a terrible experience. I won't be coming back, and I definitely wouldn't recommend it.

Had dinner at Thai House - University and it delivered exactly what a neighborhood Thai spot…read moreshould. We ordered the Basil Fried Rice with chicken (added a sunny egg on top), Pad Thai, and the beef skewers. The basil fried rice was the standout. Great wok flavor, rice wasn't soggy, and the egg with crispy edges tied everything together perfectly. I ordered medium spice -- just right for me, although my wife felt the heat immediately. Thai medium is not American medium, so order wisely. The Pad Thai was solid and balanced -- not overly sweet, good noodle texture, generous portion. The beef skewers were tender with nice char and paired well with the peanut sauce. Service was friendly, food came out hot, and portions were generous. Now for my slightly controversial take: in my experience, Asian restaurants are almost never 5-star places. The magic zone is 3.5 to 4 stars. That's where you usually find the most authentic, no-frills, flavor-first cooking. If a place is too polished, something is probably toned down. Thai House sits right in that sweet spot. Would absolutely come back.

I ordered the broccoli fried rice and the knockout rolls. The broccoli fried rice was decent--nothing extraordinary, but it satisfied my hunger. I ordered it at a level 2 spice, which ended up being a bit spicier than I expected. It also could have used a little more flavor overall. The knockout rolls were good and generously filled, which I appreciated. My only complaint was the peanut sauce, it tasted more like hoisin sauce, and I wish it had a stronger peanut flavor. The service was also very good. The staff at the front were friendly, welcoming, and made picking up my order a pleasant experience. Overall, it was an alright Thai restaurant. It may not be the most memorable meal, but it's a convenient option if you're looking for a quick Thai takeout spot with great service.
