Disappointed with the food quality, not sure if Chef was changed or management. Food quality and service is getting lower and lower everyday. Last time I visited was back in 2023 and food taste was pretty good and they maintained good spice level. But not food was bland, not well prepared. And food on the plate appearance was like dog food. The dishes lacked flavor, were served lukewarm, and didn't seem fresh. The fried rice, drunken noodles, curry tasted bland and overcooked, and the presentation was unappetizing. For the price, I expected much better. I hope the management takes this feedback seriously, because the potential is there, but the execution fell far short. I won't be returning unless there's a noticeable improvement. read more

Stopped in for lunch on a weekday and the place was very very quiet. The service was pleasant and efficient. Quick turn around on the food. She was very helpful walking me thru the spice level. I went with a 2 and that had a nice flavor and not spicy so felt really good to me. I had the chicken in the mud, it was extremely flavorful and really hit the spot. I highly recommend trying it. I eat a lot of Thai food and this is a really good place to eat. I visited here while I was on a work trip and ate the mango crab Rangoon and Pad see eew, both were delicious and cooked perfectly. I do not give out a 5 star rating easily but the service was great and the food was delicious. The restaurant does not have any frills but the food is amazing. I will be back. The food is always delicious. I tend to get either a Sapporo or Stella and my husband vodka tonic. The service may take awhile to place an order so we always make sure we have time when we go here. However the food is served pretty quickly and as I stated- has always been really good. Some of our favorites are Pad Thai, Peanut Butter Chicken, Hot Curry Chicken and Garlic Chicken. I got 2 orders of Pad Thai here and paid $15 each. Usually when you get pad Thai anywhere it fills an entire clam shell. Not from here. It barely filled 1" at the bottom. Even if you combined both containers it wouldn't be enough food. Watch out when you order and don't see your food before you leave. They give you as little as possible. read more

Woah. This place is terrible compared to the Aksarben location! We placed a $230 order and were grossly disappointed. Why are the crab Rangoon terrible and different? The spice levels were all over. My husband and I had dinner here on a Friday evening. We ordered the crab Rangoon appetizer and split the signature mango chicken for our entree. We asked for no heat for our entree and we were glad. I love the location in Aksarben so thought I'd stop in while in the area and order my favorite meal. Not a great choice... My waiter didn't speak to me at all. Upon entering he pointed to the table I sat at, he dropped off water, and came back 10-15 minutes later with a notepad and just looked at me. I ordered, and then when he didn't ask me what spicy level I wanted, I clarified what their scale was asked for a 3. My curry came out fairly quickly but not as the menu described or how it's served at their other location. The Panang Curry has broccoli and red peppers - here it came with only broccoli. My waiter never came back to check on me nor refilled my water. After eating and sitting clearly done for quite some time a young lady came by and asked if I needed a box, I did, and she brought it quickly. My waiter then came by, set down my bill, picked it up, and returned it without a word. This man's life is miserable. I don't know if he's an owner, or a family member who feels obligated to work here or what, but do both him and yourself a favor, and go get Thai elsewhere. read more

I've eaten at Mai Thai a few times over the years and have a pretty solid experience every time. I'll also say that the service is pretty poor for the most part and I sadly expect that for most Asian restaurants. The food itself is consistently good. I think that Mai Thai has a lot of different dishes that cater well towards people that also don't eat much Thai (or are experiencing it for the first time). Dishes like the crispy chicken, mango chicken, and drunken noodles are all friendly dishes for the Thai food new comer. The other dishes are all very well done as well in my opinion. One complaint I have about the food is the curry texture. Mai Thai serves watery/thin textured curry, where it evaporates when it hits the rice. Not a huge fan and I've stopped ordering the curry from there. Maybe not the best Thai in Omaha and the prices are also a bit steeper than other places. Still, I'm a fan of Mai Thai and think it's one of the better Thai options in West Omaha (I prefer it over Taste of Thailand and Thai Kitchen). read more

This place used to be good. At least I remember it being good. I stopped in this week and was met with - 1. Rude staff that seemed to be annoyed we were even there. We were never asked about drinks. We were never asked about appetizers. The waiter came over and just stood over our table. We assumed he wanted our order? Also we were never asked what spice level we wanted on either of entrees and honestly I forget until the food came. 2. The food was horrible. I'm not sure if it had to do with the miss of asking us about our spice level? Or maybe the food is just really bad now. Either way I would definitely not recommend Mai Thai. This is my favorite Thai restaurant in Omaha, and probably ever, for the food alone. There hasn't been anything I've ordered that hasn't been delicious. The flavors are fantastic and so mouthwatering. It's not just the generic brown sauce you'd find elsewhere. Each dish has a bit of a "tang" to it for a lack of a better word. My favorite dishes are the garlic chicken, crispy chicken, and cashew chicken. That said, the service is awful. The 144th location is much better than the Aksarben location, but it is rare that we have a good server at either location. At best, they bring your food out to you and leave you to it, and you'll have to flag down your server who is nowhere to be seen to pay your bill and leave. If they could improve their customer service, this would be a top-notch place. read more

I recently visited Mai Thai again and was pleasantly surprised by their renovation. The restaurant space has easily doubled in size, which really helps with the dining experience. I did not have to wait to be seated, even on a weekend night. The decor is lovely and more updated/modern than before. If you plan on drinking though, arrive early or come with a small group. Apparently they do not have a liquor/alcohol license for the new side of the restaurant (I think they combined with the building next door) so they can only serve alcohol on the original side of the restaurant. Humorous, but good to know! I'm guessing they'll update that soon. The service this time was also much better than my last experience. Faster, more attentive and friendly. I got the panang curry again, which left the same great impression. I decided to try their drunken noodle with chicken, since I'm not a fan of their pad thai. I liked it better than the pad thai, but it still didn't hit the mark. I love noodles, and can be pretty easily pleased in the arena, but the basil in the dish was so overpowering that I could barely taste anything else. read more

This is more of a 3.5 star restaurant. Some of the food was really good. The crab rangoons were delicious! The pineapple curry base was also really good. I had Tofu in mine which was over cooked. And for being pineapple curry there was very little pineapple to be found and just the tiniest mushy pieces at best. If they did those two things better it would have been really good. Everyone in my group that ordered the mango chicken LOVED it. The vegetarian noodles were "gross" per my friend who ordered them. The Pho was delicious and a massive portion though it probably needed a few more things based on the amount of broth and the Chicken Basil was a hit. Consistency. Consistency. Consistency. One of the many factors that allows someone to trust a person, place, or thing. Well... sort of. Mai Thai has it down to a T. This restaurant is a rockstar in my BF's family and has become a rockstar to yours truly too. We've eaten lunch here about once a week for the past couple of weeks and we've always been more than satisfied with the food. I always order the combination pad thai, though I love the garlic noodles too. The combination comes with shrimp--three large pieces of yummy shrimp, cleaned and cooked deliciously. My BF always gets the thai fried rice which he finishes every single time. What's also great here, is that they ask you how spicy you want your food. You can get 0-5, they also have 10 and 20. I don't know how anyone can handle 20, but there's an option for that. The thai iced tea is good too, a perfect complement to your meal. This place rocks so much, that they're currently in the process of opening up a NEW restaurant in Aksarben in March. Haven't tried anything else on the menu yet, when it's good, and you love it, why change if you don't know if you like something else? One day, I'll try something unique to my taste buds from Mai Thai, but for now, I'm sticking with what I know will satisfy me each and every time. Mai Thai has been around for awhile and I have dined there many times. Ever since the remodel and expansion of the restaurant a few years ago, my experiences have greatly improved. It is a very clean restaurant with a modern feel to it. The customer service is always excellent now. The food is consistently fresh, tasty and flavorful. My favorite dishes: 1. Drunken Noodle w/ Chicken 2. Asparagus Delight (Shrimp/Chicken) 3. Basil Chicken They also serve Vietnamese pho, which is just OK, but I usually go here only for the Thai food. There comes a point in everyone's "state" of hunger, where cravings take over. Being the fan of Thai food that I am, my palate can recognize a solid plate of pad Thai, when I have one. This experience may have been one of, if not the best, pad thai, I've ever had. Each bite left me impatiently waiting for the next. I really had my heart set on the highly touted mango chicken, but unfortunately for me it wasn't available they day I went. So I settled for the easy choice of chicken Pad Thai. It was good, but I prefer a Pad Thai with a less uniform flavor where you can taste the individual items and the sauce complements them. Still, the fantastic decor and friendly service more than made up for any slight inadequacies in the food. The item that would make it restaurant interior perfect would be a black ceiling, but who basides an HVAC engineer would look at the ceiling anyway... It was pretty cool that they give you complementary rice soup when you dine in too. The server was hustling nonstop over the busy lunch hour but was kind enough to loan me the house phone (forgot my cell) and put in a 'to go' order for me when I thought my lunch companion wasn't going to make it, then un-package it when she showed up in the nick of time. read more

My only complaint was they have a TV playing in the background and that make conversation difficult. It is too small a place and the noise of a TV to talk over. "Maita'i roa ae!" Come again?? The Tahitian phrase above was supposedly what someone exclaimed when having the new alcoholic beverage invented by Victor Bergeron back in 1944. "Maita'i roa ae!" translates to OUT OF THIS WORLD!!! After hearing this praise, Vic named this new classic, Mai Tai. I always thought restaurants with the name Mai Thai used a play on words with this fruity cocktail as a reference to good times and good food. With Mai Thai's second installment in Omaha, I must say that Mai Thai.... Is not My Thai.... The food is decent. Not bad, but not spectacular. In fact, out of all the Thai places in the area, it falls towards the bottom of the KRA PAO GAI spectrum for me. The new location in Aksarben Village reminds me of a dark S&M-esque school cafeteria, if such a thing actually exists. Large open area, but definitely lacks charm. The menu is more expansive than the West O location, but that just means more average selections. They will be serving sushi when they fully open to rival the Charles Darwin restaurant next to Aksarben Cinema. Usually I write long-arse reviews, but I seriously can't think of anything else to say, if that doesn't say something in it of itself! So will you be exclaiming "Maita'i roa ae!" after eating here?? Hands down worst service I've experienced in years! It took forever for literally everything. My friend's soda was empty the entire meal because our waitress never came to check on us. My husband's entree arrived nearly 10 minutes after the rest of our group's food. One of our appetizers was completely forgotten and we had to remind her to bring it, etc. When we asked to split the check the waitress appeared extremely flustered, stammered, and walked off... I ended up using an eyeliner pen in my purse to split the bill myself. She returned three times after dropping off the bill, which was amusing considering how scarce she made herself when we could have actually used her services. However, during none of those trips did she bring the to-go boxes we had requested the first time she dropped off the check. Someone else ended up bringing us some (not enough) and left, also never to return. My husband went behind the counter and got the extra boxes himself. To speak of the actual food itself, it was OK. My party loved the mango crab rangoon we ordered, and the chicken satay was excellent. I ordered the Tom Kha soup, and found it to be just so-so. The chicken in the soup was slightly dried out, but the bigger issue was the HUGE chunks of vegetables in the soup. I'm pretty sure there was an entire quarter of a tomato floating intact, and i had to spit out an enormous slice of ginger. O M G I don't know what happened - but this place has gone down the toilet. The menu is a one-page laminated like a truck stop style thing. The night we were there they gave us the wrong food, there were 4 kids (I'm not kidding) running and jumping off the furniture. Three TV screaming some football game as loud as possible and the place was dirty and shop-worn. The days of a stylish dinner with nice food and calm interiors is long gone folks.
