Then, I moved 'over the hill' about 5 years ago, and thought that going to Studio City was crazy, I should find somewhere in WeHo, Bev Hills, closer to my new 'hood. And so I tried. I have been coming to Mailan Nail Salon for over 6 months for acrylic fills by Vee and pedicures by a couple of the ladies. The salon is clean and spacious, and the services are always rendered on time. They make and honor appointments, unlike other salons in the area (--like Mod Nails, which consistently keeps clients waiting 20 - 30 minutes). Vee is meticulous, and does an excellent job on my acrylic nails. There is street parking and a few spots in the alley behind the shop. Prices are competitive and fair, and they're not trying to upsell you all the time like some places (sure, they will do an extended massage or callous removal for an additional fee, but they don't hound you about getting it). Would you pay $75 for nails this basic? I would stay clear of this salon. The total came out to $175 for two pedicures and a full set. They were up front about all the up charges on the pedicures but told me after the fact my nails were $75 because they were "medium length nails." I've never heard of this and these nails are super, super short. This place is outrageously over-priced. They don't even have spa massage chairs and put our feet in buckets on the ground. $175 for the most basic salon I have ever been to. I usually get my nails much longer with nail art and jewels for less than $75. There are so many nicer salons surrounding, unfortunately they were all busy so we came here. I regret not complaining about the price at the salon. Also, after I told my pedicurist I didn't want to pay an extra $10 for a 10 minute massage (I told them a few times, they were pushy) she wiped the lotion off my legs and feet with a towel after not even a minute of massaging. I have to add that although they were pushy about the upcharges, for the most part they were friendly and the nails are pretty. I am just very upset about the prices. read more

Let me start by saying I was shocked by a reviews left a few days ago, slammed the amazing people who work at Mai Lan for "speaking their own language." That statement is xenophobic and totally inappropriate. If a client came in and spoke a language other than English, should they be reprimanded as well?? The woman who wrote the review, I would imagine, spoke "her own language" throughout her time there, why shouldn't someone be able to speak multiple languages in a business they run?? I will also say that I was present at the salon while this woman (Anastasia C) was there and they were NOT double booked. She ran extremely late, never called and then demanded to be seen. That's not the fault of the salon, that's the fault of a disrespectful client who expects to be waited on despite treating everyone like they're her personal servants. ON TO THE SALON ITSELF- If I could give it ten stars I would! I have (literally) been going to this salon for over 15 years and, despite moving about 20 minutes away, still come to the salon at least twice a month. My nails always look amazing, and the staff are warm, kind and super flexible if you have to change your appointment time or reschedule. Additionally, the salon is clean and the environment is always friendly and relaxed. I always go to Helen and Jessica, my sister sees Tina, my dad goes to Helen and my mom goes to Sandy. It's a family affair :) Suffice to say, you can't go wrong with ANYONE you see! While the salon may not be as "fancy" as other places, I love that the focus is on employing high-quality employees, so the prices are always reasonable and you know you're paying for the manicure and pedicure, not some overly fancy decor. I was a walk in client. I was a bit shocked that they didn't have regular pedicure chairs and bowls. You sat in a chair and they had buckets to soak your feet. This was a complete trainwreck and I am NEVER coming back. I came here once before and had a nice manicure and came here again because of its proximity to where I was supposed to meet people afterwards and also because I talked on the phone to a person who was fluent in English and who seemed very reassuring. I thought I explained what I wanted and I could have sworn she told me I could get it here. Well, I couldnt and I didnt and I never will. First of all, the whole thing took 2 HOURS. Thats way too long. My usual guy in Santa Clarita takes 45 minutes and i am much more satisfied with his work. Needless to say, I wont stray again. Secondly, my set cost SIXTY FIVE DOLLARS!! WHAT!?! I should get a three course meal and a lap dance along with my nails for that kind of money. Of course, they did not have what I wanted as far as the colored tip, they only had one kind of powder, so my options were severely limited. Because of the length of time the whole hot mess took, I couldnt get the design I wanted either. And the worst part is I hated my nails. The shape was nice and they look professional, but they are too short, too bumpy and narrow towards the tip. And this place doesnt have a credit card machine!! Oh, and the decor is totally cheesy. I came in a couple of years ago with a gift certificate, because a friend of mine looked at my hands and said: "Your nails are horrible, you need Jessica". And boy was she right. I don't know how she does it but my pedicure (regular polish) lasts almost 3 weeks. I get french tips gel on my hands and that lasts 3 weeks, if not more. Now this is the crazy part. After waiting over an hour and 15 minutes, I have still yet to be helped. So I moved back to the Valley about a month ago from West Hollywood and have been on the mission for a good nail salon every weekend. I have tried 3 places and none of them match up to Contempo Nails on Robertson- they are the BEST when it comes to nail salons in my opinion. Let me start by saying that I have very high standards with a nail salon. I refuse to use a SPA chair and if you are giving me a pedicure in a tub you better have disposable liners. When I walked into this Mailan Nail Salon this past Saturday I was pleased to see they they didnt have spa chairs so that got a check in my mind, and there were those non eco friendly liners. I will add that I was just in for a manicure but needed to scope things out for future appointments. I am also freaky about the tools, they MUST be clean (obviously) and come out of a hygiene packet, check again. I figured we were A-OK to go on sterilization but to be sure I had "Tina" pour some extra alcohol on them in case. The manicure itself was good, i wouldn't say the BEST that I have ever had, but it was definitely better than the others I have had in the past month. My nails were very short, so what she had to work with she did a good job. I requested a "squared shape with rounded edges" and for the length she did just that. The hand massage I could have done without because it was just ehh, but it was fine definitely nothing to write home about. I wasn't too fond of their lotion smell either, it was a bitt greasy but i digress. Another must for me are OPI and Essie colors. They had both, not the most thorough choice, but definitely colors from the past few seasons. As long as there are the classics from OPI then I am ok. I won't use China Glaze or other brands, I am a brand snob with nail polish. I actually brought my own color just in case, but might use their next week. The application was good, she was a little messy but did clean up all of her errors. I am going on the third day of my manicure and it is so far holding up with the exception of a chip on one nail, but I think its from my bottle of polish because it was a little thin- I won't hold it against them. I also had a nice back massage, a little pricey- $15 for $15 but it was kinda good. I would get it again. All in all I would say that my experience was good and cost me about $34 with tip included. I have been all over and these prices were fair. I will report back next week after I get my pedicure done! read more

I just had a very uncomfortable experience with this nail salon. My first time there and I left feeling unhappy and uncomfortable. The woman who was doing my nails (I didn't get a name but she wears glasses) made me feel uneasy. She spoke in a whisper or mouthed the words so I could barely understand her (she spoke at a normal level to her colleagues) and looked so apologetic towards me that I kept feeling like something was wrong. I wanted to leave within the first 10 minutes but stuck it out the hour and a half it took to remove my acrylics and give me a fresh coat of polish. In addition while my nails were soaking she made 2 phone calls which I found unprofessional. I am not one to write yelp reviews but this was the most negative salon experience I've had to date. I give 1 star for the actual manicure which came out fine but the overall experience was enough to make me never come back. read more

I've been here a half a dozen times as my friend recommended it and she's been coming for years. It's priced well, and I've had great pedicures, but the last time I went the woman I got didn't ask if I wanted my nails cut and just did so, cutting one nail down to the skin where it bled. Okay, accidents happened, but she acted like it was no big deal. And then she kept putting acetone on it and tried to buff it, hurting me again. I was so angry with this woman. I didn't want to make a scene, but I should have asked for another manicurist right then and there. The good news is the manager/owner felt horrible and told me to come again and she would give me someone great the next time. I felt that the manager/owner would follow through and have a conversation with the manicurist I got. (Might have been even more good will had they given me a discount, but they are so reasonably priced it wasn't that big of a deal.) That being said, I am going to try them again this evening. Usually I get excellent service here and my nails look perfect. Also, they don't do the hard up-sell here like some places do and that's a relief. UPDATE: I went back and the manager/owner remembered me. To my delight when it came time to pay she said it was free to make up for the last time! The person I got did a good job... except for one thing which I find very common among many nail salons-- the manicurist does a perfect job getting the polish down, even using a paint brush to perfect the sides, and then just rushes through the top coat not even getting close to the cuticle and it looks messy with a ridge. This was done on both of my big toes and I had to touch up at home. read more

I found this fabulous Nail Salon about 5 yrs. ago......from the very first time I walked in, I have been extremely happy with the professional and personal care the entire staff treats EVERYBODY that comes thru the door. The salon is very clean, the instruments come in a sterile packaging and great variety of colors. They always take the time to do a EXCELLENT job, I have never felt RUSHED IN, RUSH OUT......(like a lot of these places in studio city).....it's always about the excellent quality of work.
