I've been coming here since my first visit because the service has always been great. The nail techs are professional and take good care of my nails, which I really appreciate since I'm pretty picky. I trust their work and enjoy coming here. One small thing I noticed recently is that it gets very hot inside the salon. During my last visit I was sweating through most of my 45-minute appointment, and I could see some of the staff were also wiping sweat while working. A friend of mine visited about a week later and had the same experience. I really like this place and plan to keep coming back, so I hope the business can check the AC, especially with summer coming. Since I'm pretty picky for little details, I didn't have to worry much, the lady worked on me kept checking with me if I'm satisfied and if I needed any adjustments before moving onto the next step, so that was great! Every time I go, they're able to take me right away, and they get the job done. They do a good job for a reasonable price. My pedicure is only $23, and that includes callus remover! I came here for the first time in a long time. I was happy with how they did my French tip. I got builder gel for the first time and they came out great. I went back 3 weeks later to get a builder gel manicure.. well the person I made my appointment with was 30 min behind schedule and I had to have someone else start my manicure. I asked that they be careful when using the dremel on my nails. Well she was careless and made my nail tips break... Then the girl I made my appointment with comes and starts where the other lady left off. Tell me why some nails are super thick and some look very natural. I went back to have them fix some of the thick ones. Well they gave me someone else. She made the nails just as thick. When I told her the glitter was too thick of a coat and didn't match the other nails she started to file it off and cut me in the process. I will not be returning. read more

I went to get my nails done here at merry nails where I usually go, and for the most part they do a good job. This time I requested for them to do French tips with regular polish and they told me that I would have to pay an additional, $10 which I did, and this is what I left the salon with... she started by painting the tips of my nails white and then cleaning it in an attempt to make a clean line. Then, she went in with a pink/skin tone color to fill in the rest of the nail after she had painted the French tips. When I complained about how it looked she told me that this is how they do their French tips, the white and then the pink, instead of the pink base and then the white tips. I asked for them to redo it since I really disliked the end result which was clearly nothing close to what anyone would want to have on their nails after spending and hour getting a manicure and paying extra. She told me that she would have to charge me again for a new manicure and color if I wanted to redo it. The owner insisted that there is nothing wrong with this manicure and agreed to redo it if I would pay for another manicure. Overall I had a terrible experience today and don't recommend it. read more

I absolutely love this place! My nails last about 3 weeks long. They don't ever rush on my nails, I love how detailed the nail techs are.

First time and last. The technician doing my gel manicure whose name is Lucy put what I "assumed" was primer on my nails. I put my hand in the gel drying machine and my nails were burning! I pulled out my hand and tried to tell Lucy. At that point I realized she doesn't understand English. She called for another employee and I was told she brushed crazy glue on my natural nails prior to gel to "harden" them. I thought my fingers were on fire and asked her to remove the glue product from all of my nails. I have had hundreds of gel manicures and have never encountered this strange procedure. My horrible mistake for choosing this run down filthy salon. On a side note they do not properly sterilize their clippers and files. Yuck. read more

I've been coming here on and off for the past 12 or so years. For an establishment on Ventura Blvd, it's quite cheap but you can tell as soon as you walk inside. There's not much of an ambience: seems clean but it's an old shop with aging mustard paint. It's fully functional and probably the cheapest place you can get a basic manicure at $12. I'm always a walk in and I'm usually helped out immediately. I'm shy as are the technicians so they do their job and wham bam, thank you ma'am! I'm glad they have TVs as well. I have been going to Merry Nails for a few years now. I walked in for my appointment and all the technicians were relaxing as it was quiet before the storm so to speak... I sat down and asked for a gel manicure. One of the ladies I recognized sat down and I thought that she would give me a manicure but then another young girl replaced her. I don't speak Vietnamese so I don't know what they were saying but I now know what it probably entailed... As soon as this girl sat down a terrible body odor invaded my nostrils... it was so sickly... she also had clammy hands and I thought she might be sick.. her hair was really greasy and did not fit in with the other ladies... I didn't know what to do as no one speaks English very well and I really needed my manicure before I left for my vacation. She proceeded to cut my cuticles and 4 times I had to tell her to stop as she was cutting my skin. I had to use my aromatherapy to help me get by the 1.5 hour manicure!!! At the end the lady that I thought was going to give me my manicure inspected the job... I used to go to this salon every 2 weeks. I had a bad experience and stopped. I had started up again a few months ago because there is a lady there that gives the best pedicures and is super nice. Today I was trying to find a salon near by to do a gel manicure and I saw the raves about Lisa and what great gel nails they did I thought I would give it another shot. BAD idea. The manicurist (not Lisa) got the gel on my cuticles and left a white line across one of the nails. I asked to speak to the owner (who is out of the country) and a lady acting as the manager came over and filed and clipped some of the nails and told me the line is because the last salon filed my nails to much, except the line was not on my nail when the pink was applied. She told me she would reapply the one nail if I came in the next morning. I told her that was fine but I still wanted to speak to the owner. She told me she wouldn't charge for the gel so I didn't need to talk to the owner and not to come back. She "fixed" 3 of the 8 that I was not happy with, but I took pictures of the "awesome" work. read more

Good nail techs here. They get the job done. One of the more affordable nail salons on Ventura with spa chairs for pedis. I do not recommend paying the extra $5 for callous removal. I did it and my heels still feel rough. The technician applied the callous removal primarily to the bottom of my feet; not my heels. The heels are what need to be worked on! I have been coming here for YEARS and I will continue to do so as its hard to find a really great nail place that is clean nail and a great person you trust to do your nails. After reading some of the reviews, here is my two cents (that turned into a novel). - Yes, there are certain nail polish brands that are $2 extra. There is a sign CLEARLY stating this next to the brand. Reason being is because this brand cost more than the normal kind because it LASTS longer. :) Lets not blame them because you didn't see it. - Yes, as usual there are different types of manicurists. Some do a great job, some do OK and some are just awful. If you have never been to this place I would suggest doing your research to look for reviews to see who is highly recommended. If you walk in off the street, lets be honest, that's the gamble you are taking! Put your finger in the water before you put your hands/feet in! If you don't like the temperature, ask them to change it! Simple! If you don't like the amount of pressure any of they use, speak up! You're an adult, you don't need someone to speak up for you. :) - I don't watch every single person in there to see where they grab things from but I do make sure that the manicurist that is working on me is using sterile stuff and that I am seated in a clean are and my feet are going in a sanitized spa tub. You should too... That is just common sense. You can't assume. And you need to just speak up if you want something changed. - Yes, there are times here and there where they may be running behind. Its NOT often and it just comes with people arriving late and it trickling down. Just like sometimes you may run late somewhere due to unforeseen circumstances, lets try keep that in mind. Again, its not often but things do happen. Yes, I understand we all set appointments for a reason and we may have somewhere to be after. Trust me, I get it. If you speak up about this during a time when this is happening, I have seen them do their very best to get you out of there on time. - This isn't a fancy nail place and this isn't a hole in the wall either. I think for what they charge on top of making sure you do your research before you go here, its the perfect price and atmosphere. $28 for a "regular" manicure AND pedicure. I only let Lisa do my nails. There are two (2) Lisa's. The Lisa I let do my nails was the old owner of this place before Maggie and her husband took over. You can't go wrong with her! For other options - here is the order I would go in to guarantee that you have a good experience: 1. Lisa (previous owner) 2. Maggie 3. Lisa (the other Lisa :) ) 4. Bella 5. Tom (he is great on your feet! Very good foot massages :) ) Please note that they do NOT take AMERICAN EXPRESS. They do have parking in the back that can get packed quickly but there is metered parking in the front. To not have to worry about paying for a meter you can park on one of the side streets. The ONLY downfall I have is that some of the regulars talk on their phones. I admit this is very annoying but I have learned to bring my phone/Ipod with my headphones and I just pop those babies in my ears with some music and relax without hearing the chatter. This is the ONLY thing I wish Maggie would make a sign about because I think its well known that this is suppose to be a pampering and relaxing time. Hearing about what you are going to wear in the club tonight, what your family member did to someone last weekend or my favorite... hear you yell at someone in a different language that clearly is an argument not meant for virgin ears - that is the only thing I wish would change. :) Other than that! People go here to get their nails done, and this business does well in that regard. I get acrylics every two weeks, and will continue to go back for their stellar service. Not only are the staff friendly, but they work fast and hard to get the job done. I have never heard anyone complain about something so trivial. If you want to protect your daughter (who has fantastic grammar and syntax for someone so young! *sarcasm*) then do your nails at home. Otherwise get over yourself.
