Slider + tender combo with an extra sauce

Personally my favorite hot chicken sandwich chain. Tenders are flavorful with good spice levels, bun is sweet and tasty, and the fries are crispy and also seasoned very well. Street parking sucks, but the nearby parking garage supposedly has a space for if you're picking up an order (saw this sign too late to make use of it ).

Pro: they use canola oil to fry. Con: the chicken strips were extremely greasy - definitely be forewarned, don't wear nice clothing here! Two orders was $34

Stopped by Main Chick Hot Chicken while on a food tour and ordered a chicken sandwich. The bun was a bit on the smaller side, but the chicken itself was a nice size. I went with the medium spice level, and it definitely delivered heat -- I could smell the chile before even taking a bite. The spice kind of dominated the flavor, though. I think it could've benefited from a sauce or maybe just a touch more salt to balance things out. Overall, it was okay. The shop itself is pretty small and not really a sit-down-and-eat type of place. That said, the service was on point and the staff was friendly and welcoming.

Came here yesterday to have lunch with my best friend and her boyfriend since they were visiting from up north and they wanted a chicken sandwich. Good luck on free parking. There is parking at ONE Colorado parking structure. The first 15 mins is free and then paid after that. This spot is quite small but cute. When we went, it wasn't very busy. We went on a Saturday around 12ish pm. I ordered: -Dark Meat Chicken Sandwich- Medium $6.99 -Season Crinkle Cut Fries $6.00 -Ube Cheesecake $6.99 The chicken sandwich was juicy and had nice heat level. I was kind of expecting Medium to be hotter in my opinion. The crinkle cut fries had a nice touch of seasoning & crunch to it. I really enjoyed the sauce it came with it. The Ube Cheesecake was probably by far my favorite out of everything. When I first took a bite of the Ube Cheesecake, I couldn't really taste the Ube right away but then the flavor came through slowly at the end, kind of lingered in the back of my mouth. This is a nice place to a get a quick bite if you're in the area.

YUM! Main Chick Hot Chicken is mouthwatering :3 ! Tried the Combo 1 that comes with a slider, tender, fries and 1 sauce. I would recommend getting two sauces though (additional fee may apply) [Spice Level~ Spicy] It did have a kick to it, but nothing unbearable, so if you like spicy chicken definitely get this level or even take it up a notch, which I'll do on my next visit LOL! I will note that the inside is quite small and only has 4 stools, that's it. So your chances of eating inside are slim, but there is an outdoor public seating area nearby which a few of the other business share. Overall, I would highly recommend coming here. Give it a shot, they are a growing business & I've seen them expand to other cities! *P.S. Try the Mac n' Cheese here! TO DIE FOR! It's the creamy white cheddar kind! ^~^

First time trying and I was amazed. Their sandwiches are so good and I like that you can choose between dark and light meat. The combos are good value for money as well. Service was excellent. The cashier was helpful and kind. It's a very small area so there's not a lot of seating so it might be hard to eat inside during peak hours. Overall would come again if I were in the area.

There's nothing better than crispy fried chicken when you're craving for a simple, satisfying meal or snack! So happy to discover this hidden gem tucked away in a small spot along an alley in Old Town Pasadena. I got the non-spicy two-piece chicken with fries, bread, and their special MC sauce. The chicken was extra crispy, juicy, and perfectly marinated. You can tell it's freshly fried and not frozen. The fries were surprisingly addicting, -- crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. Prices are very reasonable, and while the space is small, it's clean and well-ventilated. Such a solid spot for a quick and tasty bite!

Dangerous how close this spot is to my work... Tried Main Chick Hot Chicken for the first time and it's so good. The chicken is perfectly crispy and juicy and the flavor's on point. I like how fresh the pickle is and it has a good crunch to it. I was surprised the sauce is packaged and not made in house but it's still good. It's a small shop with 4 or 5 bar seats to enjoy fresh there, other than that, it's good for togo / pick ups. Definitely recommend and will be back.

Parking was a bit difficult if you want to be in front. Otherwise there is parking on the street as long as you pay during the week. This place is a simple, hip little place. Thera limited seating. Service was quick and friendly. We got the chicken sandwich and fries. The chicken sandwich was crunchy and juicy. The prices were a bit high.

The ordering kiosk was down when we went, but they reset it for us. You can also order at the counter. This chicken was very good! Nice and crispy, and even the naked was flavorful. Personally, I wasn't a huge fan of the seasoning on the fries. I think it was a seasoning salt, but either way it was too salty and just had too many spices for a fry. I wanted it to contrast the chicken, not have a similar flavor profile. This is a very casual restaurant, with limited window stool seating.

Which type of meat is being used for the chicken sandwich, white or dark?

Yes, they do. The breading has a sugar + MSG taste.

    Are you guys open today?

    Yes.

I drove over 40 miles to this location just to see that they're not even open yet. It would be nice if they posted an opening date on Yelp or their website so ppl like myself don't make this unnecessary drive. Any dates?

Completely understand your concerns! I was in OC and didn't want to drive up until it for sure opened. I even kept commenting on Instagram for a date lol. But happy to say they're finally open in Pasadena since this week!!

It was great being able to chat with him, and he was extremely hospitable. He made sure to give me plenty of water on such a hot day, as I had my pug with me and we were sitting on the patio on a hot summer day. The lomo saltado was perfect. Tender, juicy beef, delicious fries and sauce, white rice, red onions, and roasted red peppers. The Pollo à la Brasa was off the hook. We got a half chicken with fried plantains and Peruvian beans. Absolutely delectable. Chicken was juicy and tender with perfectly crisp skin. Seasoning was just right. Fried plantains were best I've ever had. Lightly fried with a moist and lightly sweet interior. We also tried an order of Papas Huancaina. The potatoes were perfectly tender, and the sauce had a nice little kick without being too much. Service was impeccable. People constantly checked on us on the patio. The World Cup was playing on two flatscreen TVs on the patio and two flatscreen TVs inside. Everyone here is happy! Restrooms are incredibly clean and surprisingly lovely with scented candles and plants. El Dorado exceeded my expectations and I'll definitely be back. We were spending the day with her in the City of Angels to run some errands and help her out and as a treat for our hard work, she wanted to treat us and to see if we concur with her lofty assertion. HR lived up to her hype and I can't wait to eat the leftovers we brought home after dining at this chicken sando institution. For me, it's definitely THE BEST CHICKEN SANDWICH I'VE EVER EATEN. Besides the spectacular grub, what I truly was impressed with was the GREAT customer service from Rico and his coworkers. There are two Howlin' Ray's in Los Angeles. The one we visited was located in Pasadena and their first location can be found in Chinatown. Both locations are popular with diners, so I recommended you visiting when the doors open. The Pasadena HR is next to Sidecar Doughnuts & Coffee, it's across the street from Petco and Turner's Outdoorsman, and it's just down the road from WaBa Grill and a Starbucks. This was my wife and my first visit to HR and our daughter brought us here before 5pm. Please don't be discouraged by the long line of diners waiting to enter the restaurant. The staff do a great job getting the diners through the ordering counter and finding seats for customers wanting to dine in. You'll wait in line, order your food from the register, and then wait until a table opens up. The tables consists of booths inside and tables and chairs outside under a covered patio. The customer service from the young lady at the order counter, Rico and the team ensuring that diners are seated and taken care of, and the employees expediting the food was customer friendly and customer focused. The employees were so kind, hard working, and I was really impressed by their top notch customer service. Major props to the owners for making customer service a priority. Delicious food will make customers gravitate towards a restaurant, but when combined with impeccable customer service, I understand why customers like my daughter swear by Howlin' Ray's. Yo HR ownership group, San Diego needs one of your restaurants and I can assure you that customers will inundate your restaurant. I wanted to order as much as I could from their menu, so that I could verify if the hype was real. The hype is real folks!! I ordered The Sando, Shake Fries, Collard Greens, Potato Salad, and Sweet Peach Tea. We also ordered the following dipping sauces, which are must orders: Comeback Sauce, Tennessee Tang, and Sweet Money Mustard. Their Sando comes with a boneless breast, slaw, comeback sauce, and pickles encapsulated in a butter bun. I'm a fan of spicy chicken sandwiches, so for my spice level, I chose Medium. I wanted to enjoy my food, which is why I went with medium. Rico gave me a sample of a Medium Plus piece of chicken and I'm so glad I chose medium. Medium Plus was really hot, so imagine what the high spice levels taste. The Sando was huge, the chicken was tender and flavorful, and the components all ate really well together. Their collard greens were juicy and satisfying. Arguably some of the best I've eaten. The potato salad was creamy and dill infused. So yummy!! Loved their seasoned shake fries, which were cooked perfectly and tasted amazing after dipping them in the variety of sauces. I am definitely a Howlin' Ray's convert and wholeheartedly concur with my daughter's positive accolades of this chicken sandwich institution. Not only was their food memorable, but the customer service from their staff matched the greatness of the grub. If you're in Los Angeles, visit Howlin' Ray's.
