Nashville style fried chicken for the win! I love spicy food so it was a no brainer this has been on my bucket list to go - and I finally did! First, I love Main Chick's simplistic menu. It makes it easy to decide what you want in a short amount of time. The prices are also very reasonable for what you get. My boyfriend works close by and he was kind enough to pick it up for him and I on a Friday night. He called in to order and picked up our items. I have to share - even after a 30 minute car ride, the chicken was still hot and delicious. By "hot" I mean temperature-wise AND spicy! We appreciate spicy food and probably got too excited so we ordered 1 spicy Chicken Sandwich and 1 medium-spicy Combo #5 with Leg Quarters and Crinkle Cut Fries. Woo-eee! Both were delicious, however, we over estimated the level of spicy we could handle. The powder of the Nashville style really shined through and I was also surprised in how juicy and flavorful the chicken was on the inside. I've been wanting to try this place for a while. It's a small place on Union Street. Their menu is pretty simple - 6 different combos and you can get things a la carte. They serve fried chicken sandwiches, chicken tenders, leg quarters, fries, slaw and mac & cheese. I ordered combo 3 to share. Combo 3 consists of 2 chicken sandwiches, seasoned crinkle cut fries and MC sauce. I chose it mild as I don't eat very spicy food. The sandwich had 1 tender, 2 slices of pickles and slaw on a bun. It was a small sandwich, tasted good but mild was a bit spicy for my taste. Fries were good but again a bit spicy for my taste. Main Chick is some of the best hot chicken I've ever had. I think what really makes this place a game changer is the fact that they actually season their fries similarly as their chicken which means the fries are not bland. Fries are also crunchy and have a good taste especially when dipped in the main chick sauce. I personally go for the medium heat because it has a nice kick to it, yet the heat level is still tolerable enough to eat the chicken comfortably. I'm not a huge chicken sandwich person so I opted in for the 3 chicken tenders with fries instead and I got full with only 2 tenders as they're pretty big. Since I was in the area, I came by to finally try the MC Fried Chicken Sandwich ($6). I ordered spicy, which was a fiery heat, felt more like the flavor got a bit lost in the heat. The sandwich wasn't well proportioned as some of the bun had no meat while some parts had excess meat. The burger was a decent size and still tasty though. Overall, solid fried chicken sandwich, but could be juicier. If you're in the area, good spot for a quick meal. The parking lot attached is $1 for every 20 minutes, which is convenient if you're just stopping by. I honestly expected some dinky portions but I definitely got more than I could handle Order with caution cause this places definitely packs the heat. Got the combo #1 spicy, everything is fried well so it's crispy but nothing is seasoned enough. There's visible seasoning on the chicken but it must just be paprika because there wasn't much flavor to it. It was spicy enough but that's it. Also kinda felt like the oil tasted a bit too old. Also $1 for honey and sauce each is ridiculous. Howlin and Dave's are definitely better. One of my favorite Nashville Hot Chicken spots! I've known about this place since they were just a stand at 626 Nightmarket (R.I.P. for now *tear*). I'm so happy that they opened a location in Pasadena because I used to make the drive out to Culver City, but I live in the SGV, so this is much more convenient. The coleslaw isn't good, and I ordered spicy which was a 1 out of 10 for spicy, and the mild was a 0 out of 10 for spicy. Tiny cuts of chicken and mini sandwiches. Another one of those places that you just stumbled upon. We just happened to turn the corner and noticed a street just full of takeout happening. Of course, the hungry game starts. Walked by this place and noticed that it was happening which is always a good thing. Stood in line for a bit before the people in front of us told us that you need to scan the menu and order from your phone. Downfall with that was, it took us a while to actually get the menu on our phone. We would get it and place the order but it wouldn't go through. After a few minutes, we just gave up and left. Menu is good but down to basic. Chicken and more chicken. We went with the chicken sandwich meal and the 6 piece chicken strips meal. They both came with a side of fries and sauces. But you add more if needed for a fee. When you place your order, from there you choose the flavor of spiciness to your liking. When we picked up the order, the gentleman's hat was working there was really sweet and helpful. He did mentioned to us before hand that it maybe easier to just go on the site for the menu. But we managed after a while. Food on the other hand was great. It's a good amount with the fries that comes with it. Also they are seasoned which is a plus. We tried it medium as it's in the middle. Nice and crispy. The bun is similar to Hawaiian rolls. Light, fluffy, slightly sweet and nicely toasted. The sandwich has a bit of an Asian flavor profile, probably from the slaw. They are sliders so if your hungry I'd definitely recommend getting more than one. Hot has decent spice. Supreme hurts. I will never get supreme again. It's not worth the pain lol It's a small restaurant on a strip of restaurants. There's a small bar where you can eat for here orders but you'll most likely need to take it to go and eat at one of the many outdoor seating areas in south pas. After hearing lots of positive reviews from friends, decided to give Main Chick a try. Ordered combo #2 (3 chicken tenders) and #3 (2 chicken sandwiches) so that I could sort of do a comparison as I recently had Howlin'. I ordered the tenders with a mild heat level and sandwiches in the medium heat level. I thought the medium here at Main Chick tasted more like Howlin's mild. The flavor of the chicken was pretty good but the bread on the sandwiches was soggy and the tenders weren't crispy. Pretty sure everything was freshly made as the tenders were still super hot when I was eating them. I've had leftover Howlin' sandwiches, wings and tenders the next day and those all had a better crunch than what I just had at Main Chick. Perhaps they need a thicker batter for the fried chicken? Overall, Main Chick is decent given the close proximity to home and without the long wait. Will go back to try the tenders and regular fried chicken to see if things improve. Pretty good chicken... naked. I am not too crazy about their spice combination but the chicken itself was pretty good, combined with their coleslaw and roll. The fries are done right as well. I was very excited to try this place because I've been seeing a lot of people post about it and my friend said he loves this place. This place is like a 3.5-4 to me. We did a large Postmates order and I got the combo 1 with medium spicy. I'd like to say the chicken itself is pretty good and juicy, but it was pretty spicy for me even tho I'm usually a medium girl. Some people got the mild and they said it wasn't spicy so I think there needs to be a better balance in the spice level. We did have a missing combo in our order so we ended up fixing that with Postmates. And I still got pickles even though I ordered no pickles :( not a big deal I guess but yeahhh If I were to come back, I would get the tenders combo only because the sandwich is literally just a tender in between 2 buns.
