We went back today and the food was delicious. This time my husband got the Granada which was recommended to us by Henry and I got my usual Legendary. Both sandwiches were packed with meat/ chicken and on top of that they both came out hot and ready to devour. The bread was succulent and a good amount of mayo and ketchup was added. I've been to Monty's twice now. First time was a great experience. I believe the owner was there and he seemed very passionate about the menu and ingredients they used. However, I went for a second time yesterday and was deeply disappointed. The owner wasn't there and instead a younger girl took my order and prepared the food. Everything seemed well and fine until I got home, opened my patty melt and found not 1 but 2 long hairs in my sandwich! They were clearly her hairs since she was the only one who handled my food. I went back and returned everything. I didn't see a hair in my other sandwich but couldn't even eat it without thinking what could be in each bite. The same girl was there when I returned and a young guy. I spoke with the guy and he gave me a refund right away and apologized. The girl who had made my food was maybe 5 feet away and couldn't even turn around to look at me or apologize. Been hearing about this place and decided to finally come and check it out. The first time of having chopped cheese was in new york so when I heard there was a place near by that does that. It was a must try. Got two sandwiches Legendary chopped cheese, pack with meats and really flavorful and good! It's a big sandwich and they make their rolls in house. Italian godfather was the second sandwich and I felt that it was missing something, it wasn't pack with flavor much. I just added some banana peppers and it helped. Also a big sandwich. Update to my review.... So I took the other half of the cheesesteak to work today for lunch. Heated it up and took a bite and the same overpowering Parmesan like taste was there. I opened it up and noticed that it was absolutely overloaded with garlic. I have a feeling the flavor was the garlic. And also there was no cheese in it because DoorDash doesn't ask you which cheese you want on your sandwich. So again, I probably would not order this again unless I told them no garlic and to add the cheese. I mean it is a cheesesteak so there should be cheese on it. We called and they were super nice about it and gave us the g-moes plus the godfather which we really appreciated it! As for the sandwiches, we thought the chopped cheese was pretty average (3/5), the bread got filling ratio was off and there could have been a bit more flavor but it does the job! The g-moes was really what stood out to us (4/5. The flavors blended really nicely together and the filling to bread ratio was better. Legendary Chopped Cheese -sooo good! Everything meshed well together. If you're feeling a juicy beef sandwich that tastes so much like a classic burger with a twist this one is it. All America Cheesesteak -perfect for those picky kiddos since it's pretty plain other than caramelized onions that blends well with the beef. Since this location of Monty's is located right off the 10 freeway, I pass by it often. For a long time I planned to stop by to try their food. I like the orange color scheme and clean, simple decor. It was very clean and felt spacious inside. There were two people working inside when I went and both greeted me right upon entry. They were friendly and we had a nice chat while I waited or the food. They have signs inside saying one can order ahead on their website and pick up the food. I only noticed the fried chicken and waffle menu. While it is not part of my usual diet, it was a great treat during a very busy week at work. The sizzling sound of the fryer whet my appetite as I waited for the food. To me the food appeared to be higher quality than other chicken and waffle places in town. The chicken was crispy and not overly heavily battered or breaded. The waffle was soft and sweet with both confectioner's sugar on it and maple syrup, as well as hot sauce, on the side. They threw in an extra small piece on top of my order. Nice touch. I came back here recently, and feel like the food hasn't been as good recently. The last few times, I have noticed the sandwich bread has been more dense and there has been more bread and less meat. They have also reduced the proportion of meat they put inside the sandwich, and the meat doesn't have a good meat taste. Also, it wasn't oily! The waffle was also good; however, I took it to go so it was a little soft by the time I got home - it tasted good though and that's what matters. If you're looking for some good comfort food and this place is close to you, definitely give it a try. I will definitely be back. They are located in a small strip retail area with a private lot. I don't see people stumbling here unless they were intentionally looking for it. The shop was quaint but full of passion and love from their staff. They were so friendly and welcoming. Henry was especially nice, providing his recommendations based on you preference. My boyfriend had the Legendary Chopped Cheese ($12) and I had the French Dip ($14). We shared the Waffle Fries ($6.50) and they provided complimentary pickles and peppers. Food is made to order so be patient. You order and pay at the cashier, then seat yourself. They had 4 tables for 2 and 1 table for 4. The shop is really small. We were really lucky to get seating. I would feel stressed if I came with a larger group but we actually saw many families come here. When our food was ready, Henry called us over to have us pick which pickles and sauces we wanted with our order, and then he kindly offered to take it to our table. He's so nice! I thought the sandwiches were really big and affordable for their portion size. My boyfriend liked his chopped cheese, but did not enjoy it as much as the one we had in New York. Gave Monty's a second try and I will be a returning customer. Shout out to the manager Henry for reaching out and Moises for the amazing food recommendations and service. I got the Poblano Cheesesteak, garlic fries, and Italian Beef with sides of jalapeno aioli. The Italian beef comes with steak, grilled onions, pepperoncini, banana peppers, calabrian chiles on a hoagie roll with a side of au jus broth. Personally I thought the peppers inside the sandwich really made the beef shine. Not sure if it really went well with the au jus broth due to the acidity of the pickles but the broth itself was thick and beefy. The Poblano came steak, grilled onions, poblano peppers, white american cheese on a hoagie roll. A great tip given to us was to mix the cheese so add a stringy cheese like Swiss to get the two cheese textures. The poblano was nicely charred with a nice pepper flavor. Personally however I think the plain All-American Cheesesteak is still the best with the gooey melty cheese and meat when you're really just craving comfort and hearty food. I can see why guys might love this place. I ordered the Legendary Chopped Cheese and was STUFFED. I also tried it with a side of their waffle fries. I'm always unimpressed with the blandness of burger patties and at least theirs was deliciously greasy and creamy where there was mayo and cheese melted in between. I also like that there were some veggies mixed in there with the meat. But if I'm making a choice to contribute to the climate crisis, that beef better be REALLY worth it and this didn't cut it. For the bread: besides being enormous, it tasted the way it looks--dense and crumbly. This place is the definition of a hidden gem. It has that hole-in-the-wall vibes where the food speaks louder than the space. I was looking for some chicken and waffles in the SGV area and this came up as a recommendation. Of note, you can order online via their website, it's the same price as in store and will help with the wait if you're doing take out as there's not a lot of waiting space inside and they cook everything to order so it may take a bit of time. Parking: This restaurant is in a small private shopping plaza that shares a lot with several other businesses. Free parking and you should generally be able to find a space. Good lord, this place rocks. It's a small clean little shop in a tiny plaza just before a freeway entrance. Parking can get a little tight but it should be fine. Garlic Fries - Actual diced/minced garlic on waffle fries. It's delicious but I'm not sure about $10 delicious. The Midwick - The only cold sandwich I've had here and by god it was awesome. It's so meaty, and the garlic aioli really shines through. I think I'll get this again next time. Honestly, everything here is pretty solid and for the most part a reasonable price point for what you get (except the fries) I want to come back and try more items off the menu, but based off what I have tried so far, I would recommend the Legendary Chopped Cheese and Midwick sandwiches the most! read more

First time trying Monty's and it was great! Ordered the Legendary chopped cheese with no onions, and my bf and i kept saying it reminded us of In n Out burgers; honestly delicious and we devoured it all lol. The Monty's #2 had such a fluffy waffle with 3 super crispy pieces of chicken; i would've liked the chicken to be bigger but it was a good amount with the one waffle. Restaurant AC wasn't working but it was clean and wait time for food wasn't long at all! Workers were so kind and friendly. They gave us the chips for free since it was our first time here! Checked out Monty's in Alhambra recently--a new foodie spot tucked away in a small shopping center right off the 10 freeway. This lot sees a lot of business turnover, so we were curious to see if Monty's would stand out. It's located between a Michoacana Mexican sweets shop, Papa Johns, a smoke shop, 7-Eleven, and a Brazilian jiu-jitsu studio... pretty random mix of neighbors. Luckily, we found parking right away and walked in to no line. The menu had a lot of tempting options, so we decided to divide and conquer. Miori went with the Legendary Chopped Cheese, and I ordered the G-Moe Cheesesteak. Both sounded like heavy hitters. We took our order to go. The food was wrapped well and packed in a to-go bag--quick and efficient. The staff was polite and attentive, which is always appreciated. We devoured our sandwiches at home and were impressed. Flavorful, hearty, and worth a return trip. Already eyeing other items on the menu for next time. Fingers crossed this spot sticks around in the neighborhood. read more

I called Monty's a little before they opened to confirm if they really start at 8am on weekends. The owner was so sweet and said, "Come on in, we'll take care of you." That small gesture already made my day. When I got there, the owners took their time to go over the menu with me. I ended up ordering the fried chicken and waffle. The chicken was juicy, well-seasoned, and crispy. The waffle was delicious and had a mochi-like chew that made it stand out. I also tried their G-moe hot sandwich and potato salad. The sandwich was flavorful but the sauce was a bit heavy-handed for my taste, so I'd give it a 4 out of 5. The potato salad was solid and a nice side. I'm definitely coming back to try their chopped cheese and cold sandwiches next time. Parking is a small lot in a strip mall, so it might get tight during peak hours, but I didn't have trouble finding a spot. Monty's is an awesome spot that feels very homey. We stopped by Monty's Alhambra for lunch and it did not disappoint! The Breakfast Burrito was generously packed and piping hot from the first to the last bite--super satisfying and flavorful. We also got the Monty's #1, which comes with a waffle and two pieces of fried chicken. The waffle was solid--not overly sweet and had a nice texture--but the true standout was the fried chicken. No heavy breading here, just pure chicken perfection: crispy skin on the outside, juicy and tender on the inside. Might be the Asian in me talking, but I couldn't help thinking how amazing that chicken would be with a side of rice. I'd love if they offered a waffle-to-rice swap! Sadly my last couple of experiences have been disappointing. I came a while ago and tried a chopped cheese, and it was sooooooooo salty I couldn't even eat it. Like I tried forcing myself to eat it and my mouth was instantly drying out so bad. (I've had other delicious chopped cheeses and sadly this one was not it at all.) I gave it a while before coming back again. Came in to get the breakfast steak and eggs sandwich I had gotten and loved during their soft opening. When I got it initially, I was able to order with fried egg/eggs over easy which was so delicious with the runny eggs. I tried asking for that this time, and was told they couldn't do that, because they prescramble the eggs... I ordered it anyway. It was not good. My bf compared it to cafeteria food. I guess I'll come here if I'm craving chicken and waffles... but the sandwiches have been striking out for me, unfortunately. read more

Love that there is a chicken and waffles place in Alhambra. Located in a small plaza right off the freeway - unless you know this spot, you might miss it. It's a small shop inside with a few tables to eat in and go. You order at the counter and grab a seat after. I think most people order for take out. Staff was super friendly and helpful especially for a first timer. Def appreciated that! I came on a weekday for lunch and ordered the chicken and waffles. Love love loved the waffle! The waffle has almost like a cinnamon flavor in the batter - crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. The chicken breast was a bit dry but the other pieces of chicken (drum/thigh) were delicious. The hot sauce def added points to this dish. Wow. What a surprise to find this gem!!! The Universe done blessed me this time!!! I randomly stumbled upon this spot as I took a random exit off of the freeway. Come to find out they have the infamous CHOPPED CHEESE, Philly cheesesteaks AND CHICKEN AND WAFFLES!!! Seriously, the food turned out so good and well prepared!!! I ended up ordering the chopped cheese and a potato salad. It was my first time trying a chopped cheese and it was sooooooooo good! It's a Philly cheesesteak with lettuce, tomato and mayo! I'm a connoisseur of goodness, so I'm all about that combo! I also got a chicken and waffles and oooooowwwweeeeeeeee! You're not gonna find chicken and waffles like this on this side of town!!! They did not disappoint! In my excitement, I met one of the owner's by the name of Henry! Super cool dude!
