My husband and I have been diehard fans of Chinese Main for literally YEARS. Its been a while since we've eaten there, but we stopped in today for lunch at 1 p.m., and it was so disappointing. We love sushi, and theirs was always the best. Not today. Everything tasted like frozen Chinese food. The salads at the sushi bar were good. Everything else was bland-- definitely not what we've come to expect from Chinese Main. New owners? Different cooks? Very dissapointing. read more

I enjoyed myself. Great selection of sushi and rolls and of course the crab legs . I was a happy girl. Nothing was questionable and the service was great , our busser took out plates every time we emptied one, he was quick and efficient. Only wish the drive was closer. Zero social distancing, run down old building, sticky tables & chairs, and filthy restroom. It's a pretty good buffet. Lots of seating and the place is busy, so it helps to make sure the food is circulating thus it is hot. Unlike some of the other buffets, their food has unique tastes to it. You can't go wrong. read more

My dad called Christmas morning around 11 am and asked about pricing for the day. He was told it was $12.99 a person over the phone. My entire family shows up at 12:30 pm and written on a piece of paper upon entrance at the front desk in sharpie marker was "$18.99 Christmas Price All Day". My dad spoke with management about who he spoke with and how much he was told, but they kept referring to the piece of paper taped to the wall. Now a $6 price change may not seem like much for one person, but when you're providing for a family of 8, it makes a huge difference. Never the less, we bit our tongue and decided to eat there anyways. I only wished that management would've been more empathetic or reasonable in honoring any miscommunication or mistake they may have made. Instead, it was more of the "here's the price in writing" approach with no care for the customer's side of the story. As for the food, it's a Chinese buffet, so you'll pretty much get the same arrangement of food common to most (if not all) Chinese buffets. To me, there wasn't anything that stood out as being something I'd return for. For the price we paid (and they way we found out how much we were going to pay) I was thinking there would be more food options, but the space and amount of options available were surprising limited (to what I'm used to). I have lived in Lacey for five years and had driven by the Main buffet hundreds of times and never gave it a second look. One day my wife and I decided to give it a try and wholly moley we're we pleasantly surprised. They have the best sushi selection of any buffet I've ever been to. The quality of sushi and selection is above average especially for a buffet. I usually fill myself up on sushi and have only tried a few of the other Chinese entree dishes they have but everything I have tried has been fresh and delish. read more

Been here again and I can't tell you how much the food here is so awesome . Can't beat their sushi bar. You need to just come on down and try it for yourself. I personally love their green salad located at the sushi bar and top it off with those shredded crab. Yummmm. If you love sashimi, then this is the place to dine at. So many selections and if you love oyster in its shell, then come on down . $40. For 2 @ dinner time on Friday. Their hot tea is very delicious and the waitress are there to get the old plates off from the tables. The tables are cleaned in a timely fashion and the carpets are swept right away. I don't ever do buffets b/c I like my food served fresh not left out. For some odd reason I was feeling like i wanted a varity of chinese and sushi/sashimi so we decided to come here. They didn't have much varity of food selections either. Food were either left put too long and burnt or the food tasted liked it was expired. Sushi/sashimi tasted like spoiled fish and definitely not fresh. Do not come here. Drive further towards downtown if you want to eat at buffet or try The Feast in Renton. This restaurant really deserves a higher rating. My cousin and her husband are from Hang Zhou, China, they are amazed at the food here, both taste and quality. Just went back again yesterday, but this time during the dinner hour. I was much more impressed by their dinner selection than their lunches, hence the addition of 2 more stars for this visit. The only updates I'll say about the food are the 3 new items I tried last night: their Butter Shrimp, Stir-Fry Mustrooms and Deep Fried Pollock. I also enjoyed the same stuff I had last time; their sweet 'n sour chicken, teryaki chick (rock hard and chewy this time), and a few other items. The butter shrimp was AWESOME! I was going to mix some into some fried rice but after eating as much as I did in two plates I didn't need the rice. This was about the best shrimp I've had in a long time at a buffet! A wee bit too much butter, but only because the serving spoon didn't have holes in it so you get a little more butter on your plate than you expected. Still, this was excellent! The stir-fry mushrooms were excellent too! I was actually a bit shocked that they didn't taste like the other vegies they were mixed with, like the onions and other stuff. But no, nothing overpowered the mushroom flavor. I had two helpings of these also. Then there was the deep-fried pollock. Your basic fish that would be good for fish 'n chips I suppose, but it was excellent. I was a little disappointed that it wasn't very hot, but then this seems to be a problem there. Keeping stuff hot. So yes, the three new items I tried last night were excellent. But my girlfriend was NOT very happy with the crab legs. Too tough, too hard to get the meat out. She couldn't figure out what all the hype was about. I'm a small bit more of a fan now that I tried their dinner menu, but I still believe $31 for 2 people is a bit steep. And I thought Old Country was expensive! Not compared to here. But then Old Country wouldn't think of serving crab legs or pollock. Instead, they use imitation crab in their salads and talapia for their baked fish (yuk!). Very displeased with this place. Very cheap low quality seafood and meat, not even worth the asking price (although reasonably cheap for a seafood buffet.) They always have the same items, and on special holidays in which they charge double price, still - same items. Nothing stands out in terms of food. I found a dead tapeworm in my salmon sashimi, when I told the management about it, they threw a b*tch-fit, told me it was salmon skin. I told them okay, I'll eat it, and then refused to give me my plate back (because they knew I was going to take a picture of it.) My most displeasure comes from the service. My family came here hungry, and after our second plate, we were being stared down by the sushi chefs on what we were picking, and the most rudest was the front desk/cash register short woman, who would make rude comments, toss our receipt in the air back to us (rather than handing it to us, or placing it on the table. Tossing it on the table would've been more acceptable than tossing it in the air like a paper airplane.) We even had the audacity to tip 20% because our server (girl with glasses) was excellent. We use to be main buffets' regulars, coming at least twice a month, but after the last two times coming here and being disrespected, we no longer will be coming here, nor would I recommend coming here. I recommend going to the new Korean BBQ place "Gangnam" which is right down the street and New, with a all you can eat option. I hope the owner of this place, which also owns other chains of seafood buffets in the state, reads this review and takes it seriously. If you are training your employees to be rude, and train them to make you feel uncomfortable after eating two plates, than don't be a buffet and charge by the plate. Not bad at all ! I was pretty googly-eyed when I first walked in here! I have been to many buffets growing up and now that I am much more of a foodie and knowledge-ful with types and quality of foods, I would give this place 4 stars! I mean, I don't know if I will ever find a buffet that is worthy of 5 stars but this place came somewhat close (for my first experience). The selection is pretty small and the 1 star is docked from being like most typical buffets with their quality falling a tad bit. For the most part though, the lo mein wasn't stringy, extra-greasy, and poorly made. The noodles were somewhat plump (I like that in noodles) and the taste wasn't extremely SALTY. Usually it's dry and salty. The meats I tried: short ribs and baby back ribs- they were alright, the sauce was obviously on point [and a little too much] while the short ribs seemed like they were being untouched and started to dry out a bit. The baby back rib was somewhat harder to pick at (without getting my face messy). The sushi selection, was somewhat typical like most buffets- I am sketch about how bad/good their quality of RAW seafood is at buffets. Their rolls were typical, stuffed in imitation crab meat and sauces. The raw selections were what caught my eye. There were a handful of choices and the scallops were actually good this time, last place I went... it was not good. Dinner price is around $15 which is QUITE cheap compared to the places I pay $25+ for per person... I definitely plan on coming back. read more

First visit here, first week of January, 2023. Lunchtime, fresh sushi being made constantly, unusually large variety of dishes, almost all of which seemed freshly cooked. Attentive staff cleared our table constantly and we went back for 3-4 refills. Some dishes obviously better than others, nothing truly outstanding, but plenty of them were worth seconds, or even thirds. Clearly a good lunch stop - not cheap but again not expensive, and since you can eat your fill, you won't need to stop again for food until Redding (if you are headed south). Delightfully surprised. Date night salvaged by Main Buffet. Very pleased to see established measures to mitigate the Coronavirus pandemic. Patrons (masked of course) are provided food service style gloves upon entering and asked to use while selecting food from the multiple hot and cold stations and seated comfortably with appropriate social distancing. Hand sanitizer stations were also available throughout the establishment. Staff members were attentive and friendly. Food was delicious with a nice sushi station. Prices fair and reasonable, especially nice during our challenging times. We will return. Again, a nice dinner date for those who are on a budget but wanting something more than your typical "fast-food"...a plus for dinner and a movie since Regal IMAX located in the same plaza. read more

I was surprised going there with low expectations of most Chinese buffet goes. This was one of the best buffet restaurant I have been to. Their sushi and sashimi was one of the best I have eaten. Sushi was not loaded with rice. Just the right amount. You get your moneys worth eating here. The price is the best I have seen in a good buffet restaurant. Good service and clean place. Main Chinese Buffet has been a favorite of mine for a few years now. I've always enjoyed coming here with friends and I finally came back today after not living in the area for awhile. Its changed a lot, but in a good way! The staff has always been friendly and welcoming each time i've been here. They're quick, to the point, and serve you wonderfully. Although they're consistently busy, they make sure to take your plate from your table right away so its not in the way of your new selections from the buffet. And they get you your drink right off the bat, which is excellent. The interior has always been clean. They have tables and booths that are fairly accommodating. The buffets are always kept wiped down and floors aren't dirty. They offer a selection of main courses, sushi, and then fruits/desserts. Everything tastes pretty good. I'd personally recommend the General Tsao chicken, Mongolian beef, and the dumplings. Yum! They've added a separate sushi bar across from the main selection since i've been here last, and they've added a chocolate fondue section next to the fruits/desserts, which was impressive. The only gripe I have about the place is that if you decide to show up for their dinner hours, it gets kind of pricey for the amount of selection they have. If you want a tasty buffet at a good price, get there before 3 pm and save a few bucks. read more

The mirrors make this place look good, it's extremely mid unless your looking to find a place to get SUSHI=100STARS WITH REALLY NICE EMPLOYEES !!! . That is without a doubt the best Chinese food around. Puyallup doesn't seem to have many outstanding Chinese restaurants. It was at 7:00 p.m. and the parking lot was full. Food was fresh and so many selections. Even the sushi was especially well prepared and fresh. I will eat there any time I can. I like that the price is $20 and you can have as much as you want. I spend at least that much going out to a restaurant with a set menu at dinner time. I believe the lunch price is $16. I highly recommend this place. read more

I hate to be that guy that says nothing but leaves a negative review. However, it was not good. The food was bland and most importantly cold. It was cold during lunch rush when it should be at its best. The staff were not rude but there was no service with a smile either. This was our second visit to Main Buffet in as many years. This place is our Daughter's "go to" Sushi and Chinese buffet in the area. Both visits we were all (including the grandchildren) very pleased with the both the quality and variety of items. I would have given it 5 stars, except that I believe that the prices are somewhat inflated for the area since so many of the customers are based on JBLM military establishment close by. I must admit that it is difficult to pass up so many of the items that you can easily overeat. read more
