Great way to celebrate a birthday for a friend. The service was great and we had a chance to have a conversation with Tim the owner. I visited here last week with my son, my sister, and her husband. We originally planned to just get drinks at the bar but were having such a good time we decided to stay for dinner, and we were really glad we did! I was a little hesitant after reading some less-than-positive reviews. Don't let those reviews scare you away from a wonderful dining experience! The entire restaurant is an engaging homage to the now-defunct Penn Yan Boat Company. As others have said, the decor is stunning with beautiful enlarged artwork from original Penn Yan Boat Company ads. The bar is a gorgeous wood boat deck with a bow. The lamps are very unique cardboard shades on pendants - hard to describe but they offer such a warm ambience. The dining room and bar overlook Keuka Lake through wall-to-wall, floor-to-ceiling windows. There is also dining on the wrap-around outdoor deck. We ordered the Butchers Block for an appetizer and there was more than enough to satisfy four adults for an appetizer. The meats were very fresh. although the crostini was a little tough. I had the Pickled Beet Crudo salad - perfect with not too much dressing and a very sizable portion. Two guests in our party had the Schnitzel and Spaetzle. They both said that the meat was tender and flavorful although the spaetzle was more like risotto, but tasty nonetheless. Another guest had the Confit Chicken leg over fries. He said the chicken was tasty but the fries lacked "character" - he was expecting something other than regular fries. We split two chocolate mousse desserts with beignets. Perfect! The mousse was creamy, had a deep chocolate flavor, and was a generous portion to share. I had the B&B cocktail before dinner. What a great summer drink. I had never had one before and am going to try to duplicate it at home. :) The wait staff was attentive without being obtrusive (Maya, you're the best!) There was some confusion a couple of times when a waitperson attempted to deliver food to our table that was ordered at another table. No biggie. The best part about this dining experience is that this place is so calm and tasteful. The music was not too loud, the plush carpeting absorbs dining room chatter, and the view makes for a lovely experience. We will definitely be back! read more

Got 2 stars for service only. Ordered a local dry wine, got a dessert wine. Ordered steak - came with a vinaigrette type sauce, not edible. Potatoes were beyond salty and NO veggies? It was $41!? You can't beat the view. The food here is terrible. I had the ribeye and whatever sauce they put on this decent cut of beef was putrid. The mashed potatoes were seasoned with so much salt that they were inedible. My wife had the mushy salmon undercooked rice. This was one of the worst meals that we've ever had for $106. Kailey was amazing! From the moment we got here, she was extremely accommodating. She went above and beyond to make our experience a positive one: wrote down a whole list of winery suggestions based on my preference, showed us the back balcony for a better view of the moon on the lake, and was just overall a pleasurable, sweet, and helpful person. The resteraunt itself looks soooo much better on the inside than the outside. It is a just great atmosphere and the food was also really good to top it off! I would definitely recommend for anyone near Penn Yan, but especially anyone staying at the Hampton Inn (as it is walking distance!). read more

The bartender was not a wine drinker so he had no real recommendations. However, the wine list was poorly selected and needs to be revisited. The vineyards view Chardonnay is probably one of the worst Chardonnay of the entire finger lakes. You can do better. You have wineries like Weiss and Herman Weimer in the area. read more

Went to Main Deck last evening. It was a great meal and the atmosphere was fantastic. This building has housed a few restaurants in the last 20 years but none were worth the trip. I love the Penn Yan boat theme and it is cool that the owner's father was the designer of the tunnel drive which was so integral to the Penn Yan boat. I didn't take any photos of our food but the BBQ rabbit was delicious as was the mushroom pilaf. I heard good reports about the schnitzel as well. Working out the kinks in service are expected and are not so bad to merit removing a star. read more

The views are beautiful, the staff is nice, and the food is ok! If you make special meal request, please note they more then likely will just give you what was originally on the menu. My opinion is; if the restaurant is supposed to be upscale dining... one would think accommodating your guest would be a top priority. I also felt waiting over 45 minutes+ for your meal and getting the excuse there was a wedding party isn't reasonable. One would think that the wedding party who was in a specific room booked in advance; which in my opinion means the restaurant should have been properly staffed to service their other guest. Not terrible, just not worth the price for the type of service you receive. read more

The overall rating says it all. Not some place that I would recommend. Beautiful location, but that's where it stops. We had to go downstairs because we didn't have a reservation and had 7 people. We went to the downstairs and the service and food were a disappointment. Appetizer took forever. Bartender was unattentive. Parmesan fries and nachos were horrible. And the downstairs was dead. It was us and one other party. Would have expected more. read more

So we've been to Main Deck a few times in the past and while we loved the atmosphere and the staff the food was really hit or miss. We decided to go for drinks tonight and in talking to the bartender we discovered that there is a new executive chef! We ordered a couple of dinners and it was great! A big improvement on the last time we ate there. So in short, give it another chance. I would love to see this place continue to operate and get better as it really has promise. read more

What a shame...this beautiful setting, lovely indoor space as well, all ruined by the food. We were both so completely disappointed by our main courses. Even the French fries tasted like crap. My ribeye sounded so good described on the menu, as did my husbands chicken dish, but both failed to deliver much taste. What little taste they had was some spice that neither one of us could identify. my husbands guess when he tasted my beef was maybe they brushed some liquid smoke all over it. Went on a Friday night of Keuka Graduation weekend. The experience was great. Drinks were great, especially the Cream Ale! Server was great with everyone. Fish Fry was really good. The ambiance was nice and the service was good. However, the seafood bisque had good flavor but too many crab shells in it. The swordfish was lacking flavor and was served with 4 pieces of dry burnt cauliflower. There were also nuts on the swordfish, which was not mentioned, my guest had a nut allergy. From a home cook who has successfully made a decent risotto a couple times, I cannot say I like the halibut risotto any less. The fish was overcooked, the lobster was rubbery, and the none of the flavors of this $39 dish worked together (unless you REAAAAAALLY like lemon juice). The burger was cooked to order, much better for the price, and the mocktails were good. Overall, I wouldn't go out of my way to come back but they did make a good burger if that's what you're looking for. read more

Well, it has Had drinks in the afternoon. Good view of Keuka Lake but drinks were a bit expensive: $10/peach margarita with splash of alcohol (for our basically tee-total; $10 vodka tonic; $10 vodka tonic; $24 Angel Envy manhattan (ordered a rye manhattan and bartender chose Angel Envy. Thanks.). So, $64 for 4 cocktails. Won't be back until COVID pricing has ended. Service? Quick but overbearing. Ambiance? Other than the Boat Bar, eh. Now, a few miles down the road is The Switzerland Inn. No Alps but good food, reasonable prices, on the lake, great lakeside ambiance and great service. read more

We had lunch there on 8/25/2023. Food was not as advertised. My wife ordered a chicken salad sandwich that when it came out there was barely any chicken in it. We asked the waiter to take it back to the kitchen and fix it. It came back ten mins later and instead of more chicken salad they added more greens. Beautiful spot. Very lovely to sit in the bar overlooking Keuka Lake as the sun was setting. The establishment is gorgeous, with the bar shaped like a boat heading out to the lake. The decor is fabulous and the view can't be beat. Stunning is the word that comes to mind and worthy of the location. That's where the wonderful experience screeches to a halt. We sat at the bar hoping to catch a cocktail and maybe a barside dinner. Wife and I were one of three couples. The bartender was just... overwhelmed... lost... periodically sipping a cocktail himself? After sitting there ten minutes before we were even acknowledged, finally got a single drink. And then we were wholly ignored for the next half hour. Never asked if we wanted food, how our drinks were, etc. So we cashed out and left. This is a spectacular spot and a beautiful place. But it has to be managed. I won't speculate why the general manager wasn't keeping a high level of scrutiny on this gem, but tonight with us they completely blew it. This was a management failure. Pure and simple. I know you can do better given how much care you put into building this beautiful location. read more

Arrived at 7 pm on a Wednesday night and was sat in the upstairs bar area. Apparently you need a reservation to sit outside even when there is availability.. they sat us at 7, we got greeted at 7:20. We put our food in shortly after that, we ordered an appetizer that never came, because it was 86'd and our bartender/server wasn't aware.. and our entrees came out at 8:00 pm. We were real close to getting up but then our food came. I got the salmon dish which turned out to be just salmon white rice and RAW SPINACH which i thought was going to be a side but was more of a garnish . Was excited to try this place as they have done a fabulous job renovating. The looks are very appealing and that's where the good things stop. First, in the early afternoon we went to grab drinks in the downstairs area and the bartender made us feel like we were inconveniencing him. We tried to be as easy as possible but he was just unpleasant and rude. We had dinner reservations for last night for 730. We get there 5 minutes early and end up waiting 20 minutes to be seated for what appeared to be not a very busy dining room. We had a party of 9 and not one person was happy with their meal. My Dad ordered grilled salmon with brown butter, crab coconut rice, and spinach. What he received was white rice that looked like it was borrowed from China king down the street, a plain filet of salmon lacking any flavor, and asparagus. My order was a $41 NY Aged Strip that came with "grilled romaine". The steak was cooked to medium but the sauce was absolutely horrible and they just drenched the steak with it. The steak had no sear marks and looked very unappealing. Next, the crab cakes. Stuffed with very little crab and came out cold. That's it. Not bad. Not good. As for the schnitzel, it looked like it would be something served at the elementary school for lunch. $26 is highway robbery. The scallops were okay. The hanger steak was okay but came with French fries when it was supposed to come with potato fondant. Nobody made us aware we were going to receive Luke warm French fries. Overall the meal was $700 and we couldn't wait to get out of there. Tori, the waitress was extremely pleasant and very good at her job. It's not her fault the food sucks. I hope they can turn this place around because the location, the views, and the aesthetic inside on both levels is fantastic. I'm hopeful but not optimistic. read more

It also has a local Penn Yan boat hanging over the bar. Great local theme. First impression cadence the hostess is fantastic! The rest of the bar crew. Need to brush up on practicing eye contact and communication skills. Cadence could teach the rest. The bartender got impatient with my wife about the wine selection. Like her asking the Residual sugar. Which my wife is a dry wine drinker. And is only trying to fine a wine she would like. We were totally ignored by the blond bartender. I am sorry I didn't catch her name. Who never asked if there was anything else. Even when they bought the entrees to the bar. Price$$$$ To sit at the bar to eat! Incredible!!!!' All I can say with the boat crowd it's lacking. I do hope they can get things straightened out. Winter is coming and the tourist will be gone. The menu will have to change. We made a reservations several weeks ahead for a special occasion, party of 10. We arrived and were seated immediately, in the room and area we had requested by phone. The menu is unique and has many options for sharing plates and meals. Also a nice cocktail and wine list, even non-alcoholic options. We started by sharing the clam bake and the whole fried fish. Both portions sizeable for everyone to sample, and delicious. For dinner, we all ordered different entrees, and we all thoroughly enjoyed. Bbque rabbit, scallops, confit chicken, schnitzel, and smashburger. Again, good size portions, and beautifully presented as well. Service throughout our meal was excellent-drinks arrived right away, water glasses filled, all 10 meals arrived at the same time, waiter checked on us regularly. The interior and exterior spaces here are incredible. The owners have taken a long favorite Keuka lake space and honored local traditions with a modern flair. I can't wait to return and sit outside and dine at sunset. read more

I wanted to like this place but it was disappointing. We went for brunch - first impression was that it is beautiful inside. Very friendly staff. A lot of them were standing around waiting to fill water glasses. (We were seated right next to the kitchen with limited view of the lake.) We asked to sit outside but the hostess told us they weren't seating people outside for brunch. Less than 5 minutes later, two parties were seated outside. My husband and I just looked at each other in disbelief. (There we're plenty of tables still available outside so it wasn't a reservation issue either.) I found something on the very limited menu to order- buckwheat pancakes and my husband ordered French toast (you can't get just a normal eggs breakfast.) He liked the French toast. My pancakes were terrible. I ate about 3-4 bites then eventually let one of the women standing around take them away. Admittedly, I was asked how everything was (after my first bite) and I did not complain. I figured that I picked the item, so it was my mistake but I thought someone would ask if everything was ok when I sent most of my plate away. The owner (I believe) and a manager were walking around but they did not bother to ask us how everything was either.) We are out of town and make it to the lake about twice a year. We won't return here on our next visit (too many other choices.) Unless something changes, I doubt this place will stay open very long. read more

Dinner with my wife, been by several times and watched renovations during last fall, stopped in for drinks one night over the summer with friends and decided it was time for a date night. Had reservations, wasn't very busy, no one at the check in station so we went to the bar, no greeting from the bartender who was fixing a couple drinks so I grabbed a drink menu and we looked it over. Then he finished up just as 3 young girls came in and sat next to us, yep he went to them first and didn't even say hello. We had two old fashions with speed rack four roses $30 ok I guess. Went to be seated and the very nice woman said the waitress will be right along, after a while the woman came back with waters and menus and said the waitress will be with you shortly, again wasn't very busy so no worries we weren't in a hurry just surprised. Menu was as nice, pricey proteins were $26-$50 everything else a la carte. Veggies/$8-9 and salads $12-14. Nice wine list not much local and $40-$280 a bottle. We had a nice dinner and dessert and coffee, the waitress was very nice. The room was quiet bright right before we left which was close to closing the finally turned it down. We were here over this past weekend while visiting from out of state on our yearly trip to the wine trials and someone recommended this restaurant so we wanted to give it a shot. First, the property was beautiful and our server was very friendly and helpful. Though my boyfriend liked his meal, we did not much enjoy the appetizer, my meal or the dessert. It seems very chaotic and was not very busy. Everyone seems to have too many tables or jobs to be able to focus on their main purpose of being there and it showed. Our meals were forgotten by the kitchen and took nearly an hour to get to us. The lobster hush puppies and the lobster pot pie has little to no lobster in it and was underwhelming. We were offered a a free dessert because of our meal mishap, which happens and was very sweet on the servers part but the dessert was also not very good. We noticed a few people waiting for meals, or a bartender or someone to just take the check. i assume this is a new establishment and may just need some attention to management but for me the food was not worth the price. i wish them luck in the future but we won't return on our next trip. read more

The ambiance is incredible and the decor was carefully put together and they did an incredible job. The menu is more upscale but very good I had the Rabbit and was so good. We had mussels and charcuterie board for apps and was very good. The sauce for mussels was insane. Service was great and very helpful. Drinks were ok but need larger pours and more variety . Went downstairs to the bar and had live music and that was so much fun and bar was better. We stayed till around 11:00 Overall incredible job and very happy to have them open new restaurant.
