I hated my last dentist because his office was a slump. So when main dental first opened few years ago, I switched here immediately, then I bought in my kids and my husband! For years I took my kids to pediatric dentists, because their offices are often designed for kids, such as TVs in ceilings to distract them from dental works. But Dr. Chau and Dr. Nguyen, along with the assistants, were so kind and funny that I decided to bring the kids here. They always have a way to convince the kids, even putting filling in turned out to be a piece of cake for my little 4 yr old. You can tell they truly care! The office is modern and comfortable providing a very relaxing atmosphere with light classical music and soothing artwork. Plenty of parking in the rear and never any traffic headaches. Visiting Main Dental is a relaxing way to keep your teeth well taken care of! Amy, who schedules appointments and works the front desk, is super-friendly and helpful and helps me sort out tricky scheduling questions. Plus, once when I had forgotten an appointment and was late, she called me and I had time to race over and not miss it! Dr. Nguyen has my undying loyalty because she is so gentle and well-informed about how to work around my jaw condition. I have TMJ and cleanings can be painful and aggravate the problem, but she manages to make it painless and still do a wonderful job on my teeth. I was referred to Main Dental through a co-worker. She had only good things to tell me about this place. And it was all true!!!! Best referral so far! Got a painful toothache while I was visiting California on vacation, and had to see Dr. Chau on an emergency basis. The entire office staff was so nice, and Dr. Chau took excellent care of me. He prescribed antibiotics, recommended a course of treatment to follow once I got home, and gave me a prescription for the pain. I went here couple weeks ago for an emergency visit and the whole office was so different. The energy, the vibe the genuine treatment to patient is lacking. The ladies in the front seems nice but professionalism is missing out. I would give a THOUSAND stars to Dr Tranh Chau & the wonderful team at Main Dental if I could!!! I've never been to a dentist this good. BTW: the Los Altos office on Main Street in Los Altos is sparkling clean and beautifully decorated with healthy green plants, lots of light and spaciousness. The service from everyone is absolutely impeccable, very caring. Then ... there is the EXPERTISE of Dr. Chau. I have been to a number of dentists over the past 15 years since I began developing a horizontal "ditch" in the enamel of one of my teeth. Every dang dentist looked puzzled and said "let's keep an eye on it". Meanwhile my "ditch" in my enamel got deeper and deeper. I went to Dr. Chau yesterday, based on his great Yelp reviews, to get to the bottom -- so to speak -- of my issue. He knew what it was immediately and its cause. I've been brushing too hard plus brushing horizontally. Duh. I knew the way I was brushing didn't feel right but I didn't know what to do. He and his wonderful dental assistant taught me the right way and gave me the Oral B electric toothbrush that really makes a difference. It has a red light on the handle that tells me when I start brushing too hard. I love feedback! I've not made that light go on yet and I'm focused on it not ever doing so!!! Tee hee. It's a game to brush my teeth now. Fun!!! Dr. Chau had x-rays done and really talked me through them, taking close-up pictures of certain teeth that had issues, and explaining options and implications to me in a very calm, clear and patient manner. Then he fixed my "ditch". Whew!!! What an ARTIST. Gifted. When he gave me a shot, I did not feel it -- and I am very sensitive. The results are spectacular. Beautiful, no pain plus feels like my teeth. Just perfect! I made two appointments for follow-up work. I'm looking forward to it!!! I TRUST this man. What a great feeling. read more

This is the best dentist I have been to! The office is welcoming and airy with wonderful decor when you walk in. The staff are all friendly and before you know it you feel like they are old friends that you see every 6 months or so. My dentist is really gentle and kind and he has never recommended any expensive treatment that I I didn't need. That is a huge deal since many of the others I have went to have done that! My family and I have been coming here for 3 years and each visit has been very professional and pleasant. I had a crown placed, a few fillings, and multiple cleanings. The numbing process (my least favorite part) was actually fast, gentle and not so bad. My children enjoy their cleanings because the dentists explain everything they are going to do to minimize their fear; they especially like the toy gifts. My daughter had her braces here and recently had them taken off--her teeth are beautiful. I took a tour of the whole office, which was spotless, organized and state of the art. Dr. Chau at Main Dental is awesome. He is highly skilled, detail-oriented, thorough and good with the kids. My son broke his front tooth and he has been great in talking to both his endodontist and orthodontist so they are all on the same page as far as treatment. And he was the only one of several professionals who could figure out how to make a replacement tooth. Customer service is great too, Dr. Chau even came in on a Sunday night on crutches to do an emergency root canal on me before I went on vacation. Amy in the front office is also awesome. I came into Main Dental with a couple problems regarding my teeth. I was very happy with the help and recommendations I received. Dr. Chau and his team are very professional. You know how you go to the dentist and the hygienist cleans your gums and it hurts and then they do fluoride and stuff? They don't do any of that here. The hygienist made it halfway through flossing my teeth, which I can do myself, and then gave up because she said my teeth are too close together (other dentists have commented on how my teeth are really easy to floss). I've had periodontitis in the past, and Dr. Chau said he checked, but since checking involves poking your gums with a sharp thing and Dr Chau barely came in the room, I kinda have to go to another dentist and pay for it. My wife has implants and A bridge and he said she was mistaken. As if she doesn't know? He told her she has an abscess and shouldn't chew on that side of her mouth. So she went to another dentist who said a) no abscess b) that's ridiculous advice if she did and c) did all the cleaning that Dr Chau didn't AND noticed the IMPLANTS IN HER FACE. read more

I came here for the first time yesterday, for a cleaning and check-up. I wasn't looking to change dentist, for I was satisfied with my previous one in Redwood City, but after my coworker recommended this one, seeing how it was closer to home, I called and got an appointment within 3 weeks. The clinic is nice and clean and has modern equipment. The waiting room is very pleasant as well. It has a long L-shaped sectional. I was going to lie down and take a nap on it after filling out and signing all the forms (there were quite a few of them) but my name was called and I was shown to the exam room soon after. The dental assistant took the x-rays of my teeth. (Amy at the front desk had already checked how long ago I had my X-rays and whether my insurance would cover them this time so I don't have to worry about that.) The X-rays came up on the computer monitor so I could see them. I don't remember the dental assistant's name, just that she is nice and explained at every step what she was going to do. She asked me if I wanted the massage on... I was taken aback - didn't come there for a massage, you know - then realized she must have meant from the dental chair. "Why not", I said. So as I relaxed while the rollers massaged my back, she polished my teeth. After that, the dentist, Dr Trang Nguyen, came in. She went through the X-rays with me, explained what she saw, the condition of my teeth and bone around them... I won't bore you with the details. Let me just say that from her diagnosis of my teeth, I knew that I was in competent hands. She confirmed what my previous dentist said about my teeth too. Dr Nguyen then did the scaling. She was very gentle and explained what she was doing all the while. I felt comfortable talking to her, felt that I could entrust the caring of my teeth to her. An example of how caring the staff here is - they applied vaseline to my lips every so often as they became dry. Also, in the care package of toothpaste, floss, ... instead of another simple toothbrush, Dr Nguyen packed an electric toothbrush for me, as a complimentary gift for first time patients, since I was brushing too hard with a manual toothbrush. I'm sold and will definitely continue to go here for my dental care. I don't write a lot of reviews but after the wonderful experience here, I feel that I have to tell others about it. read more

I was really impressed by Dr. Chau. I've been to a few dentists in my lifetime, and Dr. Chau stands out as the best I've seen. He is incredibly smart and well-educated in the field of dentistry. He does the cleaning himself without the help of a hygienist. He is very kind, gentle and caring. I was grateful that he took the time to explain my dental issues, their causes and reasonable solutions. He was not at all pushy about getting additional work done. I didn't want dental x-rays due to radiation concerns, and he did not push me to get them. Though I have since moved to Menlo Park, I still drive over to Dr Chau because he is the most skillful, thorough and caring dentist I have ever had. He is knowledgable and funny and always on time. He cared for my teeth during my pregnancy, always explaining what he was doing and calming any fears I had. I had to bring in the baby with me one time when she was very tiny because I did not have a babysitter. He was very understanding and helpful when she started to cry.
