The manager is very nice and helpful, but any time this place is busy, they can't handle it. We were there for an hour and still hadn't gotten our food. My drink was gone within 30 minutes and I never got a refill. It's a great place to go for just drinks or the bar, but for actual food, no. Every time I've had a good experience here, it's when it's not busy. They don't do a great job of handling busy hours. And literally hearing employees talking negatively (and incorrectly) about customers... yeah not very professional.. I've been going to the Portage Main Street Pub for years. Lately the service and quality have not been as good. For instance the wait staff doesn't seem to have any system for which tables they are assigned to. We were there on Thursday evening and we're seated by one person. Someone else brought us water. And then we waited and waited. While a waiter stood chatting with the table across from where we sat. Finally I caught the eye of someone else and asked who our waiter was and she pointed to him. But she took our order to get it going. I order the same thing every time I go. The chef salad. Not hard. But because I order it all the time I know when it isn't up to par. On this occasion my cucumbers were gross. I'll give them a pass on that because cucumbers everywhere a gross right now. Although if I were them I would just not put them in the salad. But my hard boiled egg halves were dry and hard like they sat out for a long time. Yuck. They have two sizes of salads a half size and a full size. I know the difference. And I ordered the full size and it was not the same as usual it was much less. My husband commented on his salad too.No one came by to ask is how our food was. This wasn't the first time we've had sub par service and meals. My husband won't go back. I will say for anyone who likes homemade thousand Island dressing they make the best. I love it. That's why I go back. I just hope they can get better management at that particular property because I like to support local restaurants. read more

Had a good dinner here. I had the chicken chimichonga that was filled with chicken. The fried burrito was topped with some cheese and had lettuce, tomatoes and salsa on the side with a few plain tasting tortilla chips. It definitely is not an authentic tasting chimi and had only minor seasonings. The wife had a pulled pork sandwich filled with pork. She said it tasted good and had half a sandwich leftover to bring home. One of my kids had the Mac and cheese. It came out in a very large bowl and she only had eaten about a quarter of it before she got full. The tables were clean and the service was good. What's to say about "The Pub?" Well, it's the traditional go-to. Also, your traditional pub style restaurant. The nice part about this place is the fairly well seperated dining and bar area. This is perfect for eating in for dinner with the family. You don't really have to enter into the more rambunctious "bar" side except for the restrooms. This also keeps the noise out. If you're there without the kids, you can find a seat on the bar side, enjoy some darts, pool, a digital jukebox, or a few arcade games. The wait staff is fairly decent and you don't have to wait long for things... unless you're there on a hopping bar night. Then, expect the traditional wait for a drink while the server juggles all her other drinkers. The food at the pub is your traditional pub fare, not over the top, but not hole-in-the-wall junk either. We frequently go here for lunch to get a burger and some beer. They offer many local craft beers as well as the big corporate beers if you're into those. The patio is a nice touch during the summer as well. read more

Main Street Pub is a local chain with a few locations. The food isn't amazing, but they've got plenty that's tasty, and their large menu offers something to suit just about every kind of picky eater. They seem always to have a microbrew of the month on special, which tends more often than not to be a Michigan beer. I've had good luck showing up at Main Street unannounced with a group of 12 and getting seated right away (not every time, but mostly). It's certainly not fine dining, but I can't afford fine dining that often anyway. Main Street Pub is in the same league as an Applebee's, TGI Friday's, or Bennigan's, except with better prices, local color, and no stupid costumes. Pros: This place CAN be a hit or miss. It used to be my favorite restaurant/pub to go eat and drink with friends after work. The environment is fun, the waitresses are usually all very friendly. They have a wide selection of food and original at it's best (bbq pork nachos, pretzel bites, and their tater tots are seriously to die for). Not to mention their house made ranch, I could drink it and I don't usually care for much ranch. They have really awesome desserts and drinks too! It's a great place to go with friends for sure and it's definitely affordable. Tons of tvs, private rooms with large tables in both, outdoor patio, pool table, darts. Cons: Like I said, it can be a hit or miss. Sometimes when I order my drinks, it tastes like coconuts when there is no mention of Malibu on the ingredients on the drink menu... I wouldn't care, but I hate Malibu and it destroys a perfectly good drink when you don't like it haha. I once found a beer bottle cap in the bottom of my glass... still got charged for the drink even when I complained to management. Some of the staff can be heard talking about quite inappropriate things with customers up at the bar at times, and I'm not much of a prude. Sometimes you get unseen when you sit down and end up having to ask for service, that's happened to me a few times and never should. read more

I go here often. It's mine and my friend go to place most of the time! The service is almost always friendly. And the food is very good! We mainly go for the fried pickles! Best I've ever had so far and the ranch dressing is also amazing. We have to get extra so we can all have as much as we want. I have only once experience bad service here and I didn't even take extreme notice to it as my brother did. The server hardly came over to check up on us, we had empty drinks a majority of the time until we could flag someone down or the manger would come over. But it wasn't as bad as it could have been. I'm never showing up here again. I tried to be patient, I came there expecting a family dinner. Ordered table ahead of time, was happy to wait a bit since they seemed busy. A few minutes after we sat down and ordered items. I got this macaroni dish, it was unappetizing and AWFUL. It had blue cheese in it, so I thought I'd like it (I love cheeses, and that includes blue cheese too) but it had tasted like they just took road kill and threw it in the pasta. It was DISGUSTING. the Gourmet Mac & Cheese -- 10$ YES. Gourmet, straight from the highway!! Worst tenner I've ever spent. I could go to walmart and pick up a pack of stouffers for that and enjoy my night out! I was VERY unhappy with it, but didnt mention a word, maybe it was just my tastes? Perhaps it just wasn't for me. I passed it around my table in hopes someone would try it and prove me wrong. Six people tried it with their own silverware. They wouldn't even eat it! It was awful, and to add to that, the constant SCREAMING in the background from loud football fans was rude and unappealing! I just really like going to the Main Street Pub all around. I've even gone to the one on West Main and I enjoy that location, as well. I do like one on Westnedge because it is bigger in general. I feel it looks like a lot more people can get in to have a great time. I try to always get a different drink when I go to restaurants, but of course I have my favorites. I've never had the real deal martini and decided to wing it. Strong at least for me, but it definitely does it justice. They have a nice beverage selection you can ponder through while waiting to take your order. We were seated right away no wait. We did have option for bar, dining, or patio. Those are all great pluses to a restaurant/bar. The waitress we had...she was on point. She checked up on us consistently. When we arrived, that table was full and nowhere close to being done. What's the point of taking a reservation if you don't honor it? I had the patty melt and it was clearly a pre-formed burger that came right out of a package. It was tough and not at all juicy. I subbed a side salad for the fries and got a little bowl of iceberg lettuce with cucumber and tomato, plus an upcharge for the sad little salad. read more

I used to go here on a regular basis with my whole group of friends, and I can safely say it hasn't changed since it's been open. We actually used to be sponsored by Main St in softball a few years back. Then I moved away for work. Once back we met up again for a drink and the entire staff was different. From top to bottom. Pretty high turnover for just over 2 years. The TVs were nice about 6 years ago, and the beer is standard at best. My second star comes from the pork barbecue nachos which are amazing. I wish they would update a little and get a better varieties of beer. With Latitude 42 opening not too far away, they are going to lose a lot of customers. Me being one of them. read more

Highly disappointed with the service we received overall today. My friend and I both brought our babies in (both under 1) at a very early time where there were hardly any tables and it took nearly 40 plus minutes to get our food on top of the fact that the waitress never came back to check on us after delivering our initial drinks. Once the food actually arrived she put it down very hastily, didn't ask us if we needed anything and in fact the order wasn't fully correct. No apologies for any of it until we said something to her, then she blamed the kitchen on being backed up (which we both get happens because we both have years of serving experience between us), no comps from the manager on anything to remedy the situation despite him visiting our table a few times and him knowing my friend from past work experiences. Very tough for new moms to get out and it was very unfortunate that our experience was basically ruined because we were extremely hungry and the babies were getting fussy and there was very poor customer service. The food is OK but not great, but the menu is very diverse and you almost have to find something you like on it. The salads I've had so far are really good. There is also a great kids' menu. The information says that it isn't good for kids, and I'd agree for the bar, but there's a large dining room as well, and this restaurant is very family friendly. Either way, I had time to kill today and wanted a beer. Stop in at 4:22pm. Sit down at the bar. Only six others seated at the bar. Then I waited over 9 1/2 minutes to be acknowledged! After almost 10 minutes the bartender Lizzie introduces her self and asks for my name. I tell her and place my order. 30 seconds later she's back with my beer and proceeds to ask my name again. When your a relatively new mom, getting out with a baby and fellow mama and HER baby, isn't always easy and isn't something that happens often. So, you look forward to it, naturally! After we took the babies to their first parade for the fourth I suggested we go to Main Street. We were one of the first tables in there and AFTER 40 minutes of putting our order in, the waitress has not ONCE checked on us to see if our drinks were low, to explain the kitchen being backed up, we hadn't seen her at all. So, the manager walks by that I used to work for YEARS ago, and explain my kid is about to lose her mind (tired and needed food after a busy morning) and this food was taking so long, just bring it to me with a box bc we need to get out of there. The waitress comes out next WITH our food like 5 minutes later. Rushes to the table and sets it down and doesn't say anything. Rushes away. My order didn't have the sides I asked for and my friend's order had the wrong fries. She ran sooo fast from the table we didn't have time to say anything. Now, I'm officially pissed. The manager comes back after I gave my kid some fries to tide her over and said just need the box so we can get out (among the additions not included with our meal we had asked for) and he said ," oh yah I'm sorry I was looking at your ticket and I saw 25 minutes for that food to get to you! We go busy!" I said, " well maybe she didn't put it until 25 min ago but it was OVER 40. "He apologized, we received the box and add items. I managed to wolf my meal down without my kid completely losing it. Requested the bill from the waitress who now has checked on us but we are so annoyed, it's not helping, and when we got the bill, nothing was comped. Not a drink, nothing. I don't go places for anything free, but this was a ridiculous experience. On the fourth, not that busy at all, on a lunch, it shouldn't take 80 minutes. It just shouldn't. I mean, I have worked in several restaurants. I have lived in two major cities where serving jobs are taken seriously and are often life long careers. I have eaten at dive bars to fine dining in other countries; I have a lot of respect for the fellow waitress. But when you ignore your table, get the order wrong, rush away from the table after you DUMP the plates in front of us, babies are screaming and other people around are not going to enjoy their lunch and you cannot even bother to stop by the table going on an hour and just say," is there anything you need?" I'm not going to be happy. My friend and I agreed it really put a damper on our day today. We REALLY needed a mama date with our kids and it just turned out super crappy. So if you're going there for a quick, accurate meal, good luck. You're going to need it. End rant. read more

My husband and I ate here and were pleased with the menu and the prices. The service was good and the food was prepared quickly. Everything we got tasted good. I, however have one critique that makes me question whether I will go back. The smell when you walk in the door was of dirty mop water. It was like they mop the floor in the kitchen and get all the grease and then transfer the same mop to the floors in the entry and dining area.
