A neighborhood gem! We love Main Street Brewing for so many reasons and have become regulars for the last five + years. My husband and I will often head for a beer and bring a board game and post up and play for hours. I always find a beer or two that I really like and they are constantly innovating on new beers which keeps things fresh. One of my favourite events and fundraisers they do is around the holidays. They have a toy box where you can bring a gift or two for kids in need and you're entered into a draw to win prizes with the grand prize being a year supply of beer!! I happened to be the winner the past year and for the last year I've gotten free beer every month! It's been absolutely amazing. We never have to go to the liquor store. The service is always friendly, the ambience is casual and chill which we love and they've also added a menu over the last couple years which is great to see! I haven't eaten too much off the menu as I typically eat their pepperoni sticks, chips or giant pickles. Will of course be back soon and can't wait to give to their toy drive again. read more

It is not fair for me to choose a star rating for Main Street Brewing Company. I was meeting a friend here for lunch and a drink, I ordered a ginger soda (I don't drink any alcohol at all) while I waited, but my friend never showed up. There was limited free street parking within the block, I was lucky to find one after I circled around once. But I don't see any problem finding parking further away, so the location is not bad in terms of parking. I arrived around 12:45 p.m. on a Sunday. There were only two other customers when I arrived so it was easy to find a quiet spot. Even though my friend did not show up, I would have ordered food and had lunch there if there were burgers on the menu. But to my great disappointment, there was nothing filling enough that could entice me to stay for a solo lunch. It is the main reason I am giving three stars. read more

Few things make me happier than when a brewery has a delicious Sour on tap. Stopped by Main Street on the way into Vancouver from Seattle for a day trip. I ordered the Hula Hula sour which was light and fresh and perfectly sour. It reminded me of a tropical mimosa. They had another sour as well, but I'm allergic to one of the ingredients so had to stay away. I would definitely drink the Hula again though! Our party also got a can of green apple cider (since they unfortunately didn't have any ciders on tap) and the Kingpin, which was a solid ale. It was very hot inside and we were halfway through our drinks before realizing they have an outdoor seating area with picnic tables, umbrella, grass turf, and dog water bowls. Perfect for groups! You'll have to get your glass swapped out for a plastic cup but that wasn't a big deal at all. I really appreciate the friendly employees as well. read more

This Kiwi Brett Ale was shockingly good, we brought it back to San Antonio. Gotta try the Greggs brisket bake, seriously legit Texas brisket and then put it in a puff pastry pop tart, and created a new thing you shouldn't pass up. Lucas is a wonderful bartender and conversationalist. We met Nigel, the owner, ask him about his beams and the history of the building if you get the chance. read more

I love Main Street Brewing They have such a great variety of beer - always. I remember years ago there was a beer they had the option to add a pump of raspberry syrup in. Anyways, I opted for the sour on tap the other day and it was deeeelish!! They are also part of the BC Ale Trail if you haven't downloaded the app the get points! The other day we also opted to share the Charcuterie Board. It was $26 but once I realized what you received it's totally worth the price! The delicious bretzel with delicious cheese and meat. It changes I think depending on what they have. Cheeses our day were a creamy blue (maybe St Agur?), gruyere and a smoked Gouda. Cheese portions were HUGE!! It was perfect to share for an appy before heading out for dinner in the hood. read more

One of my favourite breweries in the Mount Pleasant area. In the summer I love starting at this brewery and then hopping down to the other breweries near by. There are only 4 long high top tables, so it does fill up pretty quickly. On busier days, there is a hostess at the front managing the capacity and seating guests. But on slower days it's usually seat yourself. Beers are great here. I haven't had one that I didn't like. A couple of my favourites: + Naked Fox IPA + Choco-Coconut Porter (seasonal and so good!) + Mango Guava Ale (seasonal, but also very good) They have a really good kitchen as well. I've only ever gotten sharing plates and snacks here - veggie tacos and pretzels, but everything I tasted was yummy and paried well with the beer. I'd love to try their grilled cheese and charcuterie board next time I'm in. Street parking is available across the street or a few blocks down - this is great during the summer if you want to car share and leave it in the area. Good vibes, good beer, good sharing plates. Perfect place to hang out with friends or loved ones over a drink. read more

Some advice to the aggressive grumpy bar guy with an accent. I can understand you having a rough day (we all do), but keep your personal problems away from your work and stay professional, or find some other job where you don't have to interact with people. Place itself is average, just another brew place, maybe a 2.5 tops but nothing special; food is utter junk, and drinks are so so. Personally wouldn't recommend or go back, even if the service and management changed. read more

We came here on a brewery tour, so we didn't spend a whole lot of time up front, and we also didn't get to choose our beers. However, I have to be honest when I say that this was by far my least favorite brewery of the tour. The vibe was mellow - not very busy, the staff wasn't overly friendly, and the other customers weren't very lively. Not that I wanted people swinging from the rafters, but in comparison to the other breweries we stopped at that night (and the many other bars and restaurants we've been in), it felt kind of dead in here. We had a quick tour of the brewery itself before settling down to get our tasters. For what it's worth, I went in very excited about trying some of Vancouver's craft beers. But I was just very underwhelmed by the flight that was put in front of us. We were given the Main Street Pilsner, the Saison No. 7, the Naked Fox IPA and the Westminster Brown. Of the four, the ones I was most excited to try were the saison and the brown (two of my more favorite styles). The saison was probably the best, though mediocre. It had a fruity and sweet flavor that I did enjoy. The brown had a curious sour aftertaste that I couldn't get rid of, and that others at the table also noticed. It almost tasted like an old wet rag smelled, and it was far from pleasant. The pilsner was bland and the IPA, though not as powerful as the IPAs I'm familiar with, did nothing for me. Maybe we would've enjoyed it more had we chosen our beer, or had we had more time there, but I doubt it. I did love the neighborhood that surrounded the brewery, but the feel of the place itself wasn't what I'd look for on my own. read more

Came here looking for a good beer to try. Parking is available on the neighbouring streets. As this is a former warehouse, the owners went for the trendy vintage look. The seating area has a really nice high ceiling with plenty of high windows. The decor is a bit bare, but that's fine, as it fits the overall atmosphere. They have 8 beers in total - 4 regulars, and 4 casks. A paddle of 4 is $9-10, depending on what you get - cask tasters cost 25c more than regular tasters. The issue with this place (and I have the same problem with Bomber) is that most of the beers here pretty much taste the same, except with varying levels of bitterness. My friend felt the same way too. This place is up against some pretty tight competition for my cash. read more

The high ceilings and architectural details, paired with the windows make for an excellent and relaxing experience. Really like the new murals on the wall. They have a great selection of beers on tap, but great options for non-beer drinkers as well: ciders in bottles; and a red and white wine. The food selection at MSB is really pretty great too: the chicken wings are meaty and spiced well, though patience is sometimes required; our favorite is the nachos with pork--there are a lot of toppings (corn, jalapeños, etc). read more

Main Street Brewing finally opened its doors and tasting room at its 1913 heritage building location off East 7th Avenue and Scotia Steet. The hundred-year-old structure is charming and full of character as they've done quite a renovation and revitalization of the old brewery. As for the beer, I was pleased by the selection of casks including this golden kellerbier (a German style "cellar beer"). It was delightfully refreshing setting the mood for summer and sunshine. I also partook in a cask version of their brown ale (dry hopped with cascade) with its nice, refreshing flavour. Connected by a hallway to their lounge is a separate, spacious growler fill station and retail space adorned by a wall of hanging growlers. Everything seems to have a nice clean wood finish throughout with a bright feel and white decor. It's great to see how Main Street Pilsner has evolved into a full-blown craft brewery with a solid selection of brews on tap. It should fit nicely into the Mount Pleasant craft brewing trifecta with neighbours 33 Acres and Brassneck all surrounding each other. read more

Main Street have a very good beer selection and a beautiful tap-room to enjoy it in (Vancouver Breweries Garage 1913). Enjoying beer in a building with a little age isn't easy in Vancouver, or at least, in an old building that hasn't been transformed out of all recognition on the inside. The high ceilings, exposed beams and brick work, are left to speak for themselves with little more additions than simple fairy lights. Onto the beer - there beer menu is basically in two parts: Tap draft and casks. Some beers are available on both, so you can experiment to see which means of consuming beer you like the most (science!). There's usually a good 10+ beers available, so there's lots of options for Beer Barrons like myself who like to try the entire range. The Red Reifel Saison is pretty wild (give a taste taste first), while the Westminster Brown and Session IPA (always on tap I believe) are solid mainstays. They'll more than likely have at least one seasonal or special small batch on at any given point of the year. Love it. read more

Most bars and breweries I've been to tend to be dark, which I get, but this was oddly refreshing to be able to walk in and not feel like I'm in a basement! Aside from that, their beer selection is awesome, and the bartender who served me was super polite and attentive, which is super important for me. They have food as well; I ordered their four tacos, two pork and two beef, and I felt like four wasn't enough because of how good they were! Main Street Brewing makes damn fine beer, no questions asked. If you show up on a weekend night, you might have to wait to be seated--this spot is popular with groups. I've never had to wait more than 5-10 minutes as a couple, though, so nothing terrible in my experience. Once you're in, the space is great. Wood is everywhere, and it feels classy and industrial at the same time. Communal tables occupy most of the floor, although you can also opt for bar seating or a few of the four-person tables by the windows. The beer is what I'm here to write home (Yelp?) about, though. If the Bohemian pilsner, a sour, or a peppery saison is on tap, just order it. Or all of them. Don't think twice--just do it. Those beers are solid as heck. That Bohemian pilsner (not to be confused with their year-round clear pilsner) is the best pilsner rendition I've tasted outside the Czech Republic, and I want it all the time. If none of these seasonals are on tap, the regular year-round lineup and the cask beer lineup (which rotates!) are also delicious. There are many breweries in this Main Street/Strathcona area, but MSB has become my favorite over the course of repeated brewery crawls in the neighborhood. I can't wait to be back! read more

For what it's worth, my experience started out great. Beer was good, ambiance is nice. But then check this out. My girlfriend and I are supposed to meet a group of friends here for a drink. We get there a bit early so we pop inside and grab a beer. We're there for about 15 minutes when we get a text from our friend: "Hey, I'm outside but they won't let me in." We met her at the door. The young girl working the door simply said, "She can't come in right now." We asked why, she had nothing to say to us. If the place was mad crowded or if our friend was being rowdy, I'd get it. But we're talking 8:30pm here. There were empty seats at tables inside, and she'd just come from work. A few minutes go by, and the girl at the door leaves to go do something. While she's gone, a group of people arrive and walk right in. A few minutes later, another group does the same. After the second group, we thought, "Oh this is ridiculous," and we all went back inside. We order a drink at the bar--and five minutes later, after we're all sitting down and chatting, the girl from the door shows up, goes up to our friend, and says, "Um, I didn't leave. I had to do something." We looked at her, trying to figure out whether she was seriously implying that our friend needed to go back outside. She was. We told her that while she was "doing something," 8 other people had wandered in. She didn't seem to have a problem with it. She then proceeded to force our friend to leave her drink behind, go back outside, and stand in line, alone. You know, if it was just the line, I get it. They have to start holding a line somewhere, and someone is going to be the unlucky one that gets stopped. But to single someone out, to actually go and FIND them inside the place and make them wait outside, as if they want so badly to get in that you have full reign to treat them like plebe scum, that blew my mind. I already had two flights before arriving at this amazing venue, so this review might be fuzzier than most. Nice and open ambiance leads to a lively social space with wooden high tables and chairs. Flights are an average price, with growler fill-ups having a separate entrance. I didn't order food this time around, but the items looked appealing as I gazed over at the table next to me.... Definitely worth checking out if you're all up into the craft beer scene. Even if you're not, I'm sure you can enjoy the ambiance just as much. read more

More like 2.5, but I'll be generous with 3 stars. I came here for a friend's birthday on a Friday evening and arrived at about 630 -- it was very busy. They have a capacity limit of 60 people and are understandably very strict in enforcing that. The problem is their communication about it. My party was already seated so as usual I walked right up to the table to join them. The hostess then came up to me and very rudely said, "did you just walk right past my sign?" The sign at the front only said "please wait to be seated" which is a common sign at most sit down restaurants. I then had to wait at the entrance by myself for about 15 minutes for people to leave. One suggestion is that maybe they could consider seating single people who's group is already seated before seating a new group. This is definitely something to consider if you're planning on having a get together here where you won't be arriving at once. When ordering a beer, the two girls pouring weren't friendly or eager to give a beer recommendation when I told them what I liked until one guy saved the day and recommended the Sessions IPA. I think it mostly tasted so good because by this point my mood was pretty foul. I ordered the nachos, and they were decent, but if you like cheese on your nachos this isn't the dish for you. Chips that had cheese were few and far between. I'm pretty sure they saved all their cheese for the cheese bread you can grab right at the bar which in my opinion was too cheesy. What redeemed this place was the gorgeous redone warehouse it's in and the atmosphere. It almost made me look past the experience I had. Almost. I would go back for a beer, not to eat, but only if brassneck and 33acres were too packed. read more

This is a nice local Vancouver brewery that offers a fair selection of beer. I also appreciate the food options here. You can get a sausage stick, pickle, chips or hot food, like chicken wings. All options are tasty. The seating area is open and comfortable. Attached to the tasting room is a growler fill shop. You can fill your growler or buy cans as well as a few souvenirs from the brewery. Overall, it's a decent brewery. read more

Amazing space. Old brewery in Brewery Creek turned autoshop turned back into a brewery. Great location. Good beer. Not amazing beer but they are working on it. Had a flight of four and enjoyed the brown ale cask and sessional IPA. So 50/50 for me. Has their own menu instead of a food truck but I have yet to try the food. Definitely coming back to try more. After an okay round at 33 Acres, decided on a more standard brewery experience at Main Street. With Brassneck being packed, this was a solid #2 option. Building looks like an old factory converted into a brewery. The "tasting room" is essentially a wall that's about 40% completed and a few benches scattered around (one has a tree growing through it). That being said, there was no big crowd and the variety of beers are outstanding. Settled on their Brown Ale - had a thick initial taste with a low key finish. Great spot to sit and have a conversation. Didn't get to try the food unfortunately, hopefully will get another chance to come here. read more

I'm a big fan of this place, and is confidently within my top 3 of the 10 tap rooms I visited in Vancouver. Starting with the fact that their building is a industrial heritage building, meaning awesome tall ceilings with lots of old wood character and historic warehouse vibes. Indie rock playing at comfortable levels from the sound system. And while I didn't take advantage of their food menu, this is one of the few places to have a functioning kitchen with a menu beyond cheese bread and meat sticks. Most importantly, the beer was great! I found that Main Street had a lot of options that were smooth drinking, but crossing a variety of styles leaving something for everyone. There were 8 beers on tap plus 4 additional casks. The Gold Digger was my favourite wheat beer I had during my many various tap room visits. Not too wheat heavy, smooth finishing with strong notes of banana. Westminster Brown Cask Ale was also probably the best British Ale I had out west. While this isn't typically my favourite beer style, this beer had a nice dark brown color with a great malty flavour and a very approachable 30 IBU. The Pilsner was an easy drinking beer, after a day of drinking hop heavy and bolder brews it was nice to find something with such a clean finish. Naked Fox IPA was a 55 IBU but not not crazy hop forward. Admittedly a couple of the Pale Ales we had were pretty run of the mill, but I found where a lot of other breweries excel in Pale Ales and IPAs, it was nice to find someone who could brew tasty alternatives. As such, 4 stars, and the #3 spot on my Top 10 breweries list has been earned. read more

This is not the best beer in the area. I think that goes to brassneck by a pretty big margin. Main Street is a great place to have a few with friends though. The beer is serviceable, fresh and clean tasting without being exciting. They're not going to bring anything new to your palate but then again, they may be smart enough to avoid pumpkin flavoured everything's. The room has lots of space and is set up well to have a chat. People filling your glasses are friendly This may be the place to go to when you can't get into Brassneck but it's not a terrible thing if you do. read more

I am a regular at Main Street Brewing. I love the beer and the staff here but you guys have to fix your ventilation for god sake! Either you don't have a exhaust fan in the kitchen or it doesn't work properly. Whenever you cook something in the kitchen, the whole place stinks to high heaven (weekends mostly because a lot of food is ordered). Almost every time I hang out there, I have to wash my jacket & all my clothes when I get home because they all smell like grease from the fryer. I don't want to go on the weekend anymore because it's so unpleasant. read more
