This was my first time here, I brought in my beach cruiser in for a tune-up. Initially, there was a little snafu with the cost, but they were prompt about remedying it, which I really appreciated. I took my e bike in and asked about a bolt that was turning but not loosening, and a worker that had glasses took off my seat then showed me that the bolt was screwed into a nut inside. But as he was putting my seat back on I didn't know but he stripped my seat treads and the bolt to my seat was stuck to my seat. And when I found out about it I went back to the bike shop and asked if they could get the bolt out of my seat and said I would have to pay $30 even though he is the one that broke it in the first place! read more

About two years ago, my brother and I found ourselves facing an almost impossible task: to procure an adult tricycle for our notoriously demanding and finicky mother, an Asian senior whose favorite pastime is returning items she has changed her mind about. How to buy a tricycle - or any kind of cycle - when the only vehicles she has even steered since she was a teenager were old Lexuses and Benzes, and even then only while loudly complaining about the support of the seats or the suspension being simultaneously too hard and too soft? Surely we would need her to try the cursed tricycle before she inevitably returned it. But the only place we could find with an adult tricycle to try before we bought it only had 24" wheels, which ended up being too big for our mom. It seemed we were destined to continue presenting her with printouts of adult tricycles for Christmas and her birthday without ever actually delivering on our promises. Enter Aaron from Main Street Cyclery, a modest but full service bike shop just down from PCH on Main St. He not only had a 20" adult tricycle that he offered to put together for us to try without the obligation to buy, he spent the entire morning with us adjusting the tricycle to my mom's liking, including the saddle, the handlebars (both multiple times), adding a front basket, and selling us a lock, a rear view mirror, a phone cradle, and a bell - presumably so my mom can ring it happily as she pedals down the suburban streets of her neighborhood or use it to warn cars that will absolutely not hear or see her. Aaron also arranged to order a gel saddle in a matching color (which my mom has already since decided she doesn't like and will be returning... sorry Aaron!) and helped coordinate delivery of the tricycle to her house. We were missing the lock upon delivery, but with all the stuff we bought, it's an understandable oversight. It seems the quest my brother and I have been on these past couple years is finally at an end, much like this long-winded review. Until the next challenging gift she requests, at which time I can only hope we find allies as helpful as those at Main Street Cyclery. read more

i've been riding bikes for the last 30 years and dealt with many bike shops. Although I have have never been to this store before. I ordered a custom built Trek Madone thru online trek Project one and Used Main St., Cyclery as the shop to have it built at. Trek has you finalize every detail with the bike shop before it's ordered and meeting with the mechanic and the shop owner was a awesome experience. They kept me informed every step of the way, and when the bike was delivered, they had me come in and look at it out of the box and a timeline when the bike was going to be finished being put together. A few days later, the bike was finished and I picked it up and it was perfect. Although I did have some issues that needed to be addressed a few weeks later, they took care of it with a quick tuneup and made sure everything was perfect. They were nothing but professional and addressed everything that I needed to have done on the bike and went above and beyond really what most Bike shops would have done. I've always had good experiences here . When I was building a mini cargo bike back in 2020, I needed a 20 inch wheel built around a Nuvinci CVT hub . A lot of the bike shops around Long Beach did not even know what a CVT was and would not touch one ( trickier to install and no indexing on the shifter ) . Main Street did an awesome job building my wheel and installing it even though it was a challenge since I don't think anyone else has done it on 20 inchers. They also installed a weird bike part for me ( Satori easy-stem height adjuster ) which required the fork to be cut precisely at a certain length . They did an awesome job . I have brought a few of my bikes here since then for tune ups and the staff has always been professional . read more

When I came back to pick up my bike, everything was taken care of, basket got put on, bell ringer was on the side that I wanted, and new handles are also put on by the staff here. I called beforehand and the guy on the phone (Andrew?) was super nice and helpful. He was able to figure out what was wrong with my bike (busted inner tubes) and quote me over the phone. He told me it would take about an hour and $50 to get both tires fixed (yay!). I showed up the next day and left my bike there, came back an hour later and the bike was good as new (or as good as a 15-year-old bike can be!) and it literally only cost $50 for parts + labor. Technically $52 but we round down. Excellent experience, much less hassle than I thought it would be to get my bike fixed! 10/10 would recommend. They get a little busy so you might wait a few minutes to be seen. No worries, when I was there they had donuts and there are plenty of pretty bikes to look at. :) read more

Honest, Trustworthy and Reliable. I stared cycling back in 2012 and I've almost exclusively used Jax Bicycle Shop during that time. Never again! Main Street Cyclery has earned my permanent business. Here's my experience with Main Street Cyclery. I took about a year off from road biking due to the COVID pandemic forcing me to play teacher to my kids for the year and so I used the peloton. When I came back to the road, my Trek Madone 5.9 started experiencing all types of problems. Broken spokes on my wheels, my di2 system wouldn't shift properly, my chain would skip gears and fall off anytime I pushed hard on the pedals. I took the bike to Jax as I normally do and two different mechanics there came to the same conclusion that my bike was pretty much dead. They said I needed some spring in the lower assembly of the rear derailer and that those parts weren't made anymore. My options were buy a new bike for $5,000 or track down a full new group set for the bike which would set me back $2,000+ if it could even be found. I brought it in to Main Street Cyclery and explained the situation. Told them about the issues and what Jax had concluded. Their electronic shifting specialist, Aaron, had a go at the bike. I went on a trip to Hawaii and left it there for the week, and gave them broad permission to fix the bike at whatever cost if they could even fix it. When I came back from the trip, I was expecting them to arrive at the same conclusions that Jax did. The bike is unrepairable due to the lack of available parts on the lower assembly of the rear derailer. Instead, Aaron and Main Street Cyclery arrived at a different and correct diagnosis. My issues were from a miscalibrated Di2 and a small crack in the hanger. They replaced the hanger and recalibrated the Di2. Two months later my bike still rides like new. All issues repaired. The kicker? I got charged $87.00. I was expecting a $500 bill and they charged me $87.00. That $87 bought them a future customer. They earned my loyalty because they proved they are honest, trustworthy and reliable. Now anytime I need anything bike related, I got to Main Street Cyclery. I'll be doing my tune ups, repairs and deep cleaning there from now on. read more

Wow! What a bad call I made. We used to go to Jones in Long Beach for all things bicycle and had to choose a new spot because they no longer exist. We chose Main Street Cyclery in Seal Beach to tune up my wife's cruiser and we chose wrong! I paid $105.86 for new block pedals, installing those pedals, and a tune up and clean up. When I dropped the bike off (May 2), I was told that it would take about a week to complete the repairs and cleaning, and, initially front brakes to be installed. A week later, I called and was told that the shop needed to order a different type of front brake that would fit around the front tire assembly. I asked for the owner, Paul, to call me back and was assured that he would call me when he returned to work the following day. The next week, after not receiving a call from anyone at Main Street Cyclery, I went into the shop and asked about the progress on my wife's bike. I was told that Aaron, the manager, was taking care of it and was still waiting on new brakes that he had ordered, but was not working that day. I asked for him to call me back when he returned the next day and left. I never received that call. I waited another week before I called back, on May 19th. I was told that Aaron was the guy to talk to and he wasn't in, yet again. I gave them the benefit of the doubt and asked if he would be working the next day. I was told he was and would call me first thing in the morning. Now...here we are on Friday, May 27, sitting around without any contact from this store. So, I drove in and demanded my wife's bike as-is. They charged me the amount above and then brought the bike over to me. It was DIRTY. Very dirty. And it did not appear to be lubed, either. I was incensed and the poor kid at the counter did not know what to say. I pointed out the dirt and the lack of any type of work - aside from a pair of bike pedals ($10) - that was done to the bike. He apologized for everything that I pointed out and told me that Paul, once again, was absent. He gave me absent Aaron's phone number to call and - no surprise - it went straight to voicemail. I was incredibly frustrated and just had to leave. So, bottom line: if you feel like being charged over $100 for giving your bike a vacation where it just sits around for a month and no one does much of anything to it, with customer service that is absolutely nonexistent, take your bike to Main Street Cyclery. They will not disappoint. For those of you who actually want service and good communication, I would urge you to go elsewhere. And, Paul, please give me the money back for the services that your company refused to perform. read more

I noticed a new bike shop in cypress by my house and I saw that Main Street was open so I went in and found two of the best bikes for my sons and daughter not to mention the basket she also got for her bike is amazing!!! This fine shop saved my Festive 500 challenge on Strava. I called in at 9am on a Saturday asking if they could index my front and rear derailleur. I was lucky enough to ask at a time where they could work on my bike on the same day. The people there are friendly and easy to talk to. I was able to get the workers there to have a little debate on whether a roadie like me should get a mountain or gravel bike next. I was looking to pick up my first real high-end bike, entry level... nothing like a triathlon bike. Seth, who helped me out, let me take the bike out for a spin...
